Coming Soon to Toronto, Canada {another J.Crew!}

A big "thanks!" to Cynthia (of the fantastic "Delectably chic" blog), who let us know in her post here that J.Crew is coming to the Toronto Eaton Centre (click here) in Canada.

Last August, in the "J.Crew Spreads Its Wings Abroad" post, we learned that J.Crew was scouting Toronto’s Eaton Centre as a high priority location. It is great to see that it has been confirmed. Now we just need to find out when it officially opens!

What are your thoughts on this latest location for a store opening? Do you know when it will open? Will you be stopping by?

  3. Hmmmm not so sure about this....I feel like J. Crew should spread its love in other cities in Canada. Is it really fair that Tdot gets two J. Crews???

  4. Rose, if they've got the paper up then hopefully it will be happening by summer.

It is confirmed that J.Crew has signed a lease in Calgary but that was all the info I could get out of my friend in the commercial real estate business. She said she thought I would put the info on "that crazy J.Crew blog" if she told me any more details. Can you believe that? LOL

  5. I was in the Eaton Centre on Monday and I think the new J. Crew store is going in on the upper level a couple doors south of the Banana Republic store. The store front is boarded up with no sign but that would be the most likely spot as the upper level is where higher end stores go. That means it will probably be about the same size as the Yorkdale store. I can't wait - my office is just a 5 minute walk away. I know where I will be spending my lunch hours! LOL!

  6. Deadly - this one is even closer to me than Yorkdale. Sounds like it's going in the Harry Rosen spot, which is quite a large location - seems like this'll be a TO store with menswear. Be on guard, wallet!

  7. Wow they're coming fast and furious now!
Louise that is going to be so fun, to be able to pop in on your lunch!

  8. @Louise: if dagmara is right about a fall opening, I think they're going to take over what's now Harry Rosen, since Harry's going to move south to where the McDonald's used to be. Mango has apparently closed now too, but it's too small if you want to sell both guys' and women's in one spot (I think it's possible that Banana Men's will move upstairs. Banana doesn't belong on the second floor at a mall like the Eaton Centre). If they end up using the entire Harry spot, it's big enough for men's, women's AND Crewcuts.

@Laura: So true about it being "deadly" - LOL

  9. xoxo, we are all hoping it would open sooner rather than later. What kind fo friend is that, that won't tell you such vital info? :)

I asked the PS but she knew nothing. But I see someone else posted a similar photo to mine. :)

  10. Rose, I know the comm real estate market here in Calgary is incredibly competitive so things are often kept quiet. I'm sure it will either be in the Core mall downtown, since that is the high-end location, or Chinook Centre, which I avoid like the plague. Anthro's been in Chinook for a long time already and I've only visited once yet have placed several online orders in the meantime. Not a big fan of shopping malls.

  11. Cynthia, when I chatted with the sales reps at Yorkdale about upcoming store openings, they said they only knew of the first men's store opening in Yorkdale, not in the Eaton Centre. It would be fantastic if they bring out men's stuff in the Eaton Centre because then I have another excuse to visit (to shop for my husband, haha!). On the topic of locations inside the mall, it will be very interesting to see where J. Crew ends up. I personally think the old Harry Rosen location is pretty terrible, tucked into the corner without any natural lighting. The old Mango spot is a lot nicer, but as you said, it's a bit small if they are planning to put in men's and Crewcuts as well. The new Harry Rosen location is taking up the entire southeast end of the mall (where McDonalds, Cultures and Grand & Toy used to be).

Dani, I'm super excited but having J. Crew within walking distance is probably not a good thing for my wallet!!

  12. I recently saw an ad recruiting staff for the West Edmonton Mall location. Hopefully it opens soon!

  13. I hate malls too, but I prefer them to Robson Street. Parking downtown is the pits any time of the day. Pacific Centre (the other supposed location), isn't much better either.

  14. My PS at Yorkdale told me last night that she and the other PSs had lunch with Mickey on Tuesday, he was in town checking things out. She confirmed that there will be an Eaton Centre location opening in the fall, with men's ware too. I would agree that the former Harr Rosen spot beside Williams-Sonoma is the only real estate big enough. She also said there would likely be a Bloor-Yorkville store coming, but not for a while.

Very exciting news for me as the Eaton Centre is walking distance from my house...!!

  15. I learned today that "for certain" the Robson Street and West Edmonton Mall stores will be opening next in Canada, which is not news to the JCA community. After that another Toronto store and a Calgary store later in 2012.

I'm disappointed that Calgary is not opening sooner but there are plenty of other stores to love here so whatev J.Crew!

  16. @Cliquot: I don't think Bloor-Yorkville will happen until 1 Bloor East opens - unless Stollery or Club Monaco close down before that. And I don't know if either would happen - Stollery's, no matter how nasty-looking and out of place it is, is kind of an institution and has been there for decades. CM just did major renos (so basically, it would only shut down if they go out of business). Bloor just doesn't have the vacancy!

  17. CynthiaC -- I hope Stollery's isn't going anywhere! I agree it's an institution and although I seldom shop there, my parents do quite a bit. Classic preppy, for sure!

Has there been talk about JC going into 1 Bloor E? My PS talked as though going into that neighbourhood was still some years off anyway.
