A big "thanks!" to :) Jen (in this post) who came up with a great suggestion for a post: "I would love to see a run-down of your top ten j.crew prints of all time". I love the idea for such a fun post. So here it is!
The following are the first three prints of my top ten list. (I picked the most obvious choices for me in this post!) I should add that they are in no particular order. No ranking, because I love them all! (The other six prints will be posted soon.)
10. Veruschka Dress (Item 91142; $335.00) from Spring 2008.
Of course I had to add this one. As mentioned in last week's post, I think the intricate print and style of the dress is one of J.Crew's better pieces.
9. Versailles Shift Dress (Item 82879; $265.00) from Spring 2007.
No surprise here! I have already declared my love for this dress. The intricate illustration of the Palace of Versailles is gorgeous. The fitted bodice, knee-length full skirt, and circular opening at the back that has a decorative tie are all amazing touches.
8. Library Print anything from Fall 2007.
From the Doll Dress (Item 86737; $225.00) to the Silk Skirt (Item 85990; $198.00), to even the matching Library-Bookshelf Cardigan (Item 85995; $115.00)-- the Library Print is the top in its class.
What are your thoughts on the Top 10 prints from J.Crew? What items/ prints do you think will make the rest of my list? What items/ prints would make it to your top ten list? :)
Great topic! The prints keep me coming back to J.Crew, and I'm not ashamed to say that I own multiple items in many prints. (I don't wear them all at once, though!) And I love that the Factory offerings give me an opportunity to pick up what I missed out on.
ReplyDelete1. 2007 peacock print
2. 2007 library
3. 2010 watercolor potpourri (papaya/black/pinkish lavender)
4. 2011 modern red floral (driving scarf)
5. 2010 waterfloral (pastel multi)
6. 2009? pumpkin paisley
7. 2008 cherry blossom
8. 2011 royal paisley
9. 2009? lilac watercolor floral
10. 2011 begonia floral
And let's not forget the 2010? Neapolitan and lilac vintage floral!
Love the Versailles print. Wish I had that dress in my arsenal now.
ReplyDeleteI remember very well those dresses, my favorite one is the Versailles. I have three print dresses, the Giverny Sidney, Abstract Rose and Isabella Paisley print.

ReplyDeleteLove the print of the paisley wool scarf.
ReplyDeleteoh boy- this thread is going to give me serious 'wannas' That versailles print dress is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis is great fun! Mine are:
ReplyDelete- Giverny
- Golden Roses
- Kaleidoscope Paisley
- Campo De Fiori
- Italian Deco
- Vintage Violet
- Florentine
- Unidentified (unnamed?) print with all the Hawaiian islands, hula girls, hibiscus and other Hawaiian icons
- Unidentified (unnamed?) print of a very detailed Paris city scene that reminds me of my lovely visit there
- Unidentified (unnamed?) exotic plants, pineapple, dragonfly print on large bold stripes of black and white
I think the last print is from the days when J.Crew did unique prints that were almost like paintings, not sure any of the print is repeated with the exception of the border print of a row of pineapples. Think I recall some prints were even scaled to the size of a garment (the print for a size 0 is smaller than for size 4, etc.) so the print is consistently shown on all the sizes. Can you imagine the added cost for doing this?
I think SOME of my print picks will make your list, Alexis. :)
most of these have been said already:
ReplyDeletevintage violet rose print
golden roses
italian deco
watercolor floral (trixie printed pumps!)
sea glass (pink/yellow/red?)
...I also love the singular graphic prints, like the anchor skirt/shirtdress/cashmere shell, owl cardigan, polar bear sweater, fleur de lis flats, etc.
oh, how could i forget my favorite (dress): the bahia print!!
ReplyDeletelighthouse postcard print
ReplyDeleteski lift print
cliffrose print
ReplyDeletelobster print!! :D
links print (yellow/navy)
mod floral (bright pink, olive, orange)
oh, i love the Versailles. I want to weep bitter tears that I wasn't able to purchase it!
ReplyDeleteLibrary print and the butterfly print are my two all time favorites. I own every piece in both prints that ever came out. I mean the library print speaks to my degrees and the butterfly print just is simply gorgeous and makes me happy just looking at it.
ReplyDeleteThe vintage violet would be my third choice b/c I love purple.
Fourth would be any of the Hawaiian mini skirt print or island prints like the skirt I still own in navy with the reddish orange sash.
School of Fish--Fifth
Seaglass would be Sixth.
After that I don't have any prints that are my 'favorites'.
My heart is pounding :)
ReplyDeleteLibrary
Golden Roses
Coppelle Paisley
Bahia
Watercolor Floral
Here are a few more prints/printed pieces that I love:
ReplyDeleteTrastsvere
Pilar
Fresco
Painted Bridget Dress
Talitha tropical patchwork madras
Classic patchwork madras strapless dress
And, I add my votes for the modern red driving scarf, and wish I had the Veruschka and something in Campo DeFiori.
I am drooling...
ReplyDeleteMy top 10 overlap everyone else's!
Library Print (DUH!)
San remo print
Sea glass print
Vintage Violet print
Golden Roses print
Veruschka print
Library Toile print (did this appear on anything other than a cardigan?)
Abstract rose (2008)
Campo de fiori (different on each item, but I love them all!)
Giverny print
Well, I guess that's only 9. I have so many printed items and I love them all!
Oh, and I would give my right arm for the Versailles dress!
Whoops, it is ten! I added Giverny at the last minute. tastymoog, I love all the items with the singular prints too. The owl cardigan... what I wouldn't give for that!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I concur, love those!
ReplyDeleteRoyal Paisley is very high on my list, which is weird considering it's so new. Same with Nightfall Floral.
I also love the old-time Spotted Cat print, which has a cleanness and timelessness about it that a lot of the more recent animal prints don't have. Same with the Serengeti animal print.
Other loves ... Talitha Patchwork (probably my first true Crew love), San Remo, Cherry Blossom, Seville Paisley, Milla (pink/red), Florentine (bright flame), Sunshine Peonies, Coppelle Paisley, Sea Glass, Golden Roses ... the list is embarrassingly long, lol. Maybe I should just say I love them all!
Elaine, YES to the spotted cat print! LOVE that. Have the headband (two actually; one for backup!), purse, shoes, belt... loved that one.
ReplyDeleteI keep failing the new word verification...
JCrew JD,
ReplyDeleteAre you talking about the owl cashmere cardigan? I have it and love it. It was a popback that I got long ago and it actually shipped and then my parents mailed it to me in England. I have not worn it at all this year as it has been too warm here...
Genny, YES! That one. I covet it. There has been one on eBay for a while for around $300... too expensive for me though!
ReplyDeletetasty mog,
ReplyDeleteOh yes. I have the polar bear and penguin cardigan. I definite LIKE:)
I Loved all the critter stuff...I know to others it is not their cup of tea but it is definitely mine...Love that I could spot Sandra Bullock wearing the navy capris with dragonflies in a movie!
JCrew JD,
ReplyDeleteI got stuck with a ruffle front blouse with ties in front (came in white, turq. and the cherry blossom print as well)as it was final sale. Well, the yellow is bright but works well with the owl cardigan as it has that color as an accent in it. I wear them together and get lots of compliements...Wow, $300 on ebay! I don't plan to see a classic like it ever but wow again!
SELL not see. Time for a second cup of strong tea.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun post. I wish we had swatches to post with our favorites as that would be fun to see what some are talking about.
Enjoying this over my first cop of coffee. Thanks Alexis for hitting it out of the park again.
ReplyDeleteLove being reminded of prints I forgot or never knew existed!!
Library print is my number one. From there it is too hard to rank!
I love the beetle print. It's from 2005 I think. I recall getting the skirt when I wasp regnant with my daighter and hoping it would fit once she wasborn. It did, and I still wear it to this day.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to a pic: beetlep rint
I loved the purple & green print from I think it was 2010 - waterfloral maybe? Lilac floral? It came in a pencil skirt (have), ridiculously overpriced "Collection" cami that dropped steeply in price very quickly, and a one-shoulder dress.
ReplyDeleteAlso a big fan of the peacock print.
Floral prints are so cheery. I think I prefer them on the bottom to the top, or in a scarf.
Fun topic! One of my favorites is the jaipur paisley. I have the tunic dress and I can't wait until it gets warm enough to wear it again.
ReplyDeleteUnlike most of y'all, I don't wear a lot of prints and many that J.Crew has released are lovely, but they don't work for me so mine is a fairly short list.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are Mila, Ellora, Fresco, Trastevere and the pink floral, the second print in the perfect shirt and shorts in this post HERE. Does anyone know the name of that print?
I can't think of a full 10 at the moment, but my all time favorite J.Crew piece I have is my School of Fish dress. Love, love, love that print.
ReplyDeletexoxo, the pink is the Seville paisley. isn't it dreamy? sigh...
ReplyDeleteAaahhh! How could I forget School of Fish!? I have the bikini in that print, the one with the green background. Love it so much.
ReplyDelete*strolls down memory lane with likeminded gals*
School of Fish definitely for me.
ReplyDeletetiffany rose--I had the strapless dress made from the "exotic plants, pineapple, dragonfly print on large bold stripes of black and white" print. The dress is long gone now, but I remember that print! Curiously, Gymboree made little girls' clothes out of that same print back around that time.
Love every single one of those prints. I actaully did a post on my blog a few months back with pictures of all my favorite prints here .
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to keep track of all the fantastic prints thru the years, sometimes it's nice to see them with the name included with a phot. J Crew should create an index of their prints or something!
Jacquelyn,
ReplyDeleteI loved the beetle print! I missed out on the skirt. Seems it was too expensive to justify, though I wish I had. It's probably #1 on my list of the One That Got Away. I bought a belt in the same print with a pink background. The belt was a D-ring style, which I never wore much because I tend not to tuck tops in. I still have the belt in a drawer just because I love looking at it once in awhile. How obsessive is that?
I loved reading your picks!!! There are some that I did not include but am seriously reconsidering (school of fish print would be one!)
ReplyDeleteSome of you have already guessed correctly my list- LOL! Either I am way too predictable or we have the same taste. :)
Does anyone remember from 2007 or 2008 a gorgeous black and white holiday skirt that had an fabulous winter print - skiers maybe?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see a picture of that again. I'd buy it too...
Wow, kudos to you die-hard JCAs for remembering all those print names! Thanks Egyptomaniac for the link to your pics so I could see some of them.
ReplyDeleteI don't do many prints, either, but I do have a beautiful blazer with a mandarin collar in a grey & white croc pattern that I adore. The ikat pencil skirt is one I missed! And that MILA pink/red/gold is lovely.
cousy,
ReplyDeletethe soiree skirt (http://www.polyvore.com/soiree_print_skirt_jcrew/thing?id=516346)?
it also came in a cardigan: http://www.polyvore.com/crew_soiree_cardigan/thing?id=16982513
You're good tasty moog. Very good.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Elaine, I think you're right, Seville paisley.
ReplyDeleteThere are two fish prints...one with a green background and lots of colorful fish...Love and have the dress and flip flops.
ReplyDeleteThere is also the orange background with white fish that came in a skirt prior to the above fish print. Have that skirt too and love it:) I know this particular print sold out super fast and is much harder to find nowadays...
Also, Doesn't anyone remember the butterfly print?
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly jacket with the glazed linen and print lining was to die for! Am I the only one who has it?
Does anyone else like the butterfly print? Scarf, bikni, shorts, purse with wooden handle, etc. were made. Even Crewcuts had similar items....
Genny, I LOVE the butterfly print! Unfortunately, all I have is the headband and the wooden handled bag. Almost got the silk dress on eBay but I missed it.
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed by how organized so many of you are, print names, style numbers etc. Alexis mentioned the library print cardigan and I checked to make sure it was the one I have. Yes, it is and I actually worn it last week with this years toothpick cords in light brown, sorry I don't know the official color. The cardigan is a classic and always makes me smile since I love to read..looked perfect (I hope anyway) with navy tee underneath. My favorite is the Fleurette pencil skirt (item 2657) Summer 2010. I know this was offered at the Factory store but for me it is great. Thanks for this post.
ReplyDeleteGenny
ReplyDeleteI have the butterfly scarf. I love it. I wear it every Spring and get tons of compliments on it. Goes so well with everything.
Nice to hear abt the butterfly print from others. Thanks for chiming in. I remember I have the hairclip as well too:-)
ReplyDeleteMeredith - I'm so glad you remember that exotic plants, etc. print! I still have the dress and it looks brand new. Maybe I'll document the rare out-of-print (ha!) prints on my blog at some point.
ReplyDeleteI love the Neopolitan print. I have a thing for prints that mix black with browns/tans - they end up being so versatile. I'm wearing my Neopolitan ballet flats today!
ReplyDeleteI've been "secretly" collecting all the pieces of the butterfly print for the past year and anxiously awaiting spring to debut them :) It started with the dress which I over payed for as a NWT. The rest have been a steal which includes the bag, bracelet and lined linen jacket. Think that may be my Easter outfit. Thought I was the only one :)
