"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. My week passed by without any vents regarding JC. I hope this keeps up. lol

  2. J.Crew really needs to put out a free shipping, no minimum code for its card holders...it has been a long time.

A Valentine's free shipping promo for all would have been nice.

  3. Along the lines of Genny's comment, they really need to either drop their ship charges completely or lower the minimum order to $50. It just doesn't make any sense at all for them to continue with this! Even Nordstrom, which seems to ship from stores instead of a warehouse, finally dropped their shipping charges.

Taken together with all the other sins J Crew is guilty of, the shipping charges and high min order really make me angry.

What I would not GIVE to find another place where I like the clothes as much. Seriously.

  4. Another hai-crew...jaicrew? Yeah, jaicrew:

    In the public eye
    Natasha top opens wide
    Oh damn. Those buttons

I actually really love the Natasha top. However, those are some slinky buttons. At least 3x in one day I was walking around only to find my top open all the way down with all buttons undone. In public.

Ditto on what (original)Genny said about shipping.

  5. Elaine, I didn't see your post until I entered mine. I was going to say that about Nordstrom, but didn't want to drone on and on. I'm so relaxed when I shop on their site because whether something is $10 or $100, I don't have to pay shipping on it.

  6. Gigiofca,

Ditto on the Natasha top. Pretty top but poorly designed...The buttons and the way the shirt just kind of flaps open just doesn't make for comfortable wearing. If I have to fiddle with a top, it is just too distracting during my busy, hectic days.

    Elaine,

I used to feel the same way about J.Crew but not anymore. I am just wearing my oldies but goodies and not buying much anymore. Honestly, I cannot find much I like either. Talbots has been just OK until I saw their new catalog yesterday. Lots of things I want. very excited to see many pieces that remind of good ole JCrew.

  7. There is flat-rate shipping for Canada, we don't even get free ship for a minimum unless it is part of a promo. There is no smart label return option for us either. With all the returns I have stacked up yet again, and shipping charges to/from Canada, I am getting pretty sick of the throw-away $ for shipping, especially since I am paying full price for almost every darn thing!

Either improve the quality, allow honest customer reviews to help us choose better or give those of us buying online a bit of a shipping break.

  8. Ah, glad I'm not the only one with the Natasha top problems! I bought it in two colors. I hate having to wear a cami underneath or scarf over it or constantly check to see if my bosoms are exposed!

  9. There are a handful of items I'd like to try but seeing as how they went from full price directly to final sale, won't chance it.

I would say I'm first of all wary of J.Crew because their quality is so poor compared to what it used to be, secondly of the fact that putting items on final sale so quickly tells me they don't stand behind the product. Talbots & AT do final sale, too, but it's like third mark-down or something, no issue with that.

What happens at j.crew policy meetings? Instead of coffee urns they have kegs, and these policies look good seen through beer goggles? Boggles the mind...

  13. cmg, to be very honest, I think their inventory management system is just total crap. It's not real-time. When you batch-process data, that's what happens.

Their operations are just so hit and miss, it simply boggles the mind. It's impossible for me to believe they're unaware of their issues. We know they read this blog. We've TOLD them what to do to make people happy and still they resist. I do not get it at all.

  14. I also seem to have issues with the Natasha buttons...love the top but I finally used some double sided tape to keep it together, mainly in my chest area.

  15. I second (or ninth) the gripe with the Natasha buttons! Beautiful top. Absolutely beautiful. But surprise! boobs!

My current complaint is that yesterday bit on the promo and ordered the azalea pencil skirt, along with everyone else. But I'm still waiting on the pencil skirts in bright blue and flame that I ordered late November/ early December. My online order history still lists these two as being waitlisted. I've called CS a couple of times, and every time, they give me the "oh, this will definitely be shipped by ___" and every time it is a new date, further and further out.

So, I'm left praying to the jcrew gods that these come eventually.

Are you there Mickey? Its me, Reese.

  16. ah yes, I also had the "surprise! boobs!" happen the other day. LOL... think I will change out those buttons!

I am not Canadian but I am mad at how much our Canadian JCAs get ripped off. They really need to at least offer the smart label option.

  17. Agreed on the shipping fees. I shop for my kids all the time at Crewcuts because there is free shipping always. So why do they continue free shipping for the kids stuff but rarely extend the offer to grown-ups? I really dislike paying for shipping. LL Bean has gotten rid of shipping fees altogether and it is working for them. Zappos too.

  19. RE: Natasha. I love this top. I've bought it in multiple colors. Just ordered the green one yesterday. I have the same problem with the buttons. I don't need to give my students a show! I ended up sewing all the button holes up. What a pain!

  21. I am venting about my upcoming shipment of the turquoise wool hacking jacket- I placed my order in November with an expected delivery date in mid-March. I assumed the price would get marked down and I would likely get a price adjustment, but I was WRONG! So now I won't get a wool jacket until 4 months after I placed the order and I get to full price, nice. I also live in the south and will have to wait until winter of 2013 to wear the jacket. Did I mention I paid full price? It seems clear that this particular jacket isn't being marked down along with most of the other fall jackets because of their mistake in inventory flows.

  22. I am SOOO cranky about colors that aren't depicted accurately! I looked at the neon azalea Drea peep-toe pumps on several monitors, and IMO they looked like a very bright medium-depth slightly blue hot pink. I received them today and they are graffiti Day-Glo deep hot fuchsia--they looked absolutely red next to my neon azalea pencil skirt, for example. They clash terribly with everything I'd planned to wear them with. Very disappointed. These are going back.

  24. Hexicon - Thanks for the info. That really sucks. I assumed those photographed as true in color. They look the same on my monitor as yours. Definitely a shame they're different.

  25. Is anyone else becoming "blinded" by the website photos? The white background is making it almost difficult to see items clearly. Is it just me? The only positive is for my bank account. I don't feel like becoming temporarily blind to try and order something online.

  26. I know this has been said many times but I bought a tissue tshirt full retail wore it once washed in a lingerie bag on gentle cycle -3 holes?? what gives? Every time I buy I hope they have fixed the quality of their materials but no. I am no longer a J Crew fan.

  27. Audreybella, I noticed the same thing. I'm always squinting at the pics. It's especially thoughtless that they photograph the wedding dresses on a white background!
