Just for Cardmembers: an Italian shoe debut

"Thanks!" to Irina, who shared with us the latest email from J.Crew to its card members.

The email above features the not-yet-officially-released-online Viv Suede Flower Flats (Item 64657; $198.00). J.Crew mentions:
We're head over heels for these exquisitely feminine flats. Crafted from sumptuous Italian suede topped with a sweet flower at the toe, the sharp silhouette evokes the elegance of eras past, while the vibrant hues keep the look firmly in the now. Man-made lining and sole. Made in Italy. Catalog/jcrew.com only.
Super cute flats! The style is adorable and the flowers at the toe is a sweet touch. I think both shades (Bright Marigold and Deep Orchid) are gorgeous!

And of course, this means that new arrivals are once again around the corner!

What are your thoughts on the new flats? Do you like the style of the shoe?

  1. "Man-made lining and sole"?

Wow! For $200 I would expect at least a leather lining. I cannot wear shoes with a synthetic lining. They make my feet sweat. If the lining is synthetic, the whole shoe might as well be synthetic.

  2. I agree with Meredith-for $200 I expect at the very least a leather lining. Too bad 'cause I think they are darling shoes.

  3. Love the shoe. Would only buy if the whole thing was leather for the price. So many cute better made shoes out there. Wish J.Crew would do better.....

  4. Meredith, my thoughts exactly. J.Crew shoes are not worth the prices. You can find much better quality and construction for comparable prices.

  5. I completely agree with you @Meredith. Man-made lining on $200 pair of shoes? I don't mind shelling out the money if the item is worth it. These babies are pretty (esp. the yellow which is my fav. color) but definitely not worth the price tag IMO.

  6. Yup, saw these earlier today on the website after doing search for "Viv". Beautiful and love the marigold color! But so sad about the man-made lining also! Man-made sole is OK with me but the man-made lining is deal breaker (...what Meredith said). So so sad, especially at that price point. Sigh.

  7. Man made lining = NO. At least, not for the price. Do these remind anyone else of a similar shoe from 2008? I did a post earlier today about how similar some of the new items look like items from 2008.

I really just can't get over that they aren't all leather. The viv bow flats are just a few dollars more and are all leather. Where do they come up with their pricing?

  8. I love them, but suede is a no-go for me. On pointy-toed shoes especially, it always seems to wear off the tip. Also not pleased about the synthetic components, ewww. I sure don't see where they brought the price down any, lol!

  9. Agreed w/the rest of you all. It's cute, but it ain't worth $200. And especially not for suede.

  10. I bought Joe Fresh shoes ALL leather for $19.94 on clearance ($59.95 full price) and they look better.

  11. Those are really cute. I'd also be paranoid about the tip wearing down even though I try to take it easy on shoes I love.

  12. Clearly I am an ignorant country dweller; please forgive me, but where are Joe Fresh stores located?

  13. J.CrewJD: I think Joe Fresh is a Canadian store.

  14. As usual, J Crew excels in producing shoes in beautiful colors - these are no exception. I appreciate this, and it keeps me looking at what they offer.

But the omnipresence of synthetic lining and soles on J Crew shoes is really low-rent. I feel like J Crew is playing us for fools: "made in Italy" hasn't had any real meaning for at least a decade now.

About the price - maybe these will go almost directly to the sale rack, as J Crew is doing for some of their most over-priced stuff.

Shall we have a betting pool? I'll put a (safe!) date of March 31for these shoes going on sale before the end of March.

    Who's in?

  15. JCrewJD, Joe Fresh is a Canadian store, but they are expanding into the US. They have opened about 5 stores in NYC, and I think they have some in NJ and CA as well.

I love these shoes and would buy them on sale, because they can only go with so many outfits.

  16. Ditto on all the comments. I refuse to buy shoes with synthetic lining. They make your feet sweat and stink, and the shoes don't mold to your feet as they should. The only ~$200 range ish brand of shoes that consistently have leather linings are Dolce Vita. Otherwise, I've been sticking to Prada, Jimmy Choo, and Louboutins. And spending a fortune in the process.
