So long, long weekend: 20% OFF your jcrew.com order ends today

"Thanks!" to Irina who shared the following email:

Today is the last day to take 20% off you entire order of $150+ with promo code FABFEB. This offer is good on regular and sale priced items.

Unfortunately, most B&M stores did not carry this offer (in fact I did not see any offer for the weekend) and several popular items "disappeared" during this promotion from their website. (The last part really bothered me. Why not just say that certain hot-ticket items are excluded instead. Shady J.Crew.) With all that said, it was a good promo to pick up a few new arrivals.

Will you be taking advantage of this offer online? If so, please share!

  1. Loft typically does the shady business of taking certain "hot" items off their web site whenever a big promo hits and that's usually enough to make me not want to buy their stuff for long periods. I didn't realized that JC did that too - boooooooo ...

I did bite on this promo though - couple of new arrival items that I couldn't resist (new colors on scout chinos and chiffon skirts)!

  2. Really wanted the Margaret Annie Liberty perfect shirt. Since it disappeared, I won't be placing an order. Bet it turns up with all sizes available shortly after the promotion ends.

  3. Over the weekend I was at the B&M Jcrew in SF and bought a few items. The SA gave me the promo, she even mentioned herself that she didn't understand why the online promotion didn't apply to store because she felt customers would just try things in-store and order them online but most importantly THEY'RE THE SAME COMPANY. I'm with her on that.

  4. Why is the fanfare pencil skirt FINAL sale ALREADY at over 70 dollars with the promo! BOO.

  5. shopalot, I saw it this morning in a couple of sizes, a 4 and - something? - and yesterday it was on site but described as sold out, call a shopper to help you find one. Can they be tuning up their inventory system?

  6. I won't, since the one thing I wanted is sold out in my size. Live and learn.

Lisa, JC has been doing it lately too. Talbots is hiking up sale prices just before some big sale is announced. It is shady, I agree.

  7. Oh boy, Fred, don't tempt me. I want that shirt in a big, bad way. Perhaps I should email my online PS. Doubtful that shirt will ever make it to sale; 20% off is probably the best discount I'm going to get. J Crew must have one of the worst inventory tracking systems on Earth.

  8. My B&M honored the promo. I picked a real beauty of a pencil skirt yesterday from the new role out appearing tomorrow. My store was putting out the inventory yesterday, so my PS called and suggested I come in and take a look. Some very pretty pieces coming our way!!

  9. When something says "expected to ship ___" they do not charge you until it does in fact ship, is that correct?

I have gone back and forth on buying a couple skirts, and if I do end up biting I figure I might as well throw in the Talitha and/or Blythe (both of which I have been eyeing forever) but of course the colors I am interested in are not shipping for a while (what the heck is with the late may date on the black blythe?).

It will make me less angry if I at least do not have to pay for it until I get it.

  10. samantha, you will be charged only when the item ships, not now. You can even cancel your order and you won't be charged if you find it somewhere before it ships

  11. Didn't buy anything because 20% off is not a deal to me... but looking forward to new arrivals! Hello polka dots!

  12. Nothing else for me, but I did want to say that I really love the Elodie striped sleeveless blouse and am very glad so many bloggers recommended it! I normally wouldn't have given it a second glance but I can see it pairing well with so many things for work, especially my double-serge pencil skirts.

People call these pricing games "dynamic pricing." I personally think it's terrible. I hope it goes away.

  13. They hid the Lucca sandals and the shirt that I want has been sold out in my size for a while (I have been hoping for a pop back). I hate these games so not buying a thing. Can wait to see the new roll out.

  14. I would definitely buy the lucca sandals if they didn't "disappear" from the website. The blue and green color are so pretty....

  15. I bit on some shoes but I didn't get free shipping to Canada. I thought it might kick in over a certain amount.

  16. My store did allow the 20% off, and I did bite on a couple things, including two new arrivals. Some very pretty new items! Will be posting some pics tomorrow.

  17. Thanks Ema! That is good to know (well maybe not for my future wallet...).

One more question for anyone that knows: a fiesta purple blythe just popped up one size larger than I usually take. I would normally go with a 2 but I also have a 0 in the Boy Stripe Crepe de Chine (fits just a smidge away from too tight in the shoulders, but was on sale/last size). Am I going to be kicking myself when this arrives and is a bag, or will one size up in the Blythe just give it more of a relaxed, billowy boy shirt look? Would it be ok with jeans or tucked in to a pencil skirt for work?

  18. I ddi a quick stop at my B&M today and they had put out a bunch of new stuff. I came home with a few pretties -- highlights are a very cute paisley print cap sleeved dress ($148) (that pretty casablanca blue, mustard yellow, and that yummy mint color on a cream background) and a red (!) eyelet skirt ($118). I also got the spindrift sweatshirt in a neon pink -- I am, bizarrely, a sucker for neons -- and cute vertically striped shorts - it's seersucker patterned but chambray/light denim material. My SA also honored the 20% off.

Speaking of SAs... based on how territorial certain SAs seem, I am assuming they get commissions? I almost prefer NOT seeing the SAs that I've become friendly with b/c I am guilty of the purchase-return-repurchase-at-a-lower-price cycle, and I just can't do it if the original purchase is from a sales associate that I know. In fact, the guilt preventing return and the fact that the return window is longer for online purchases, often sways me to making online purchases instead of B&M purchases, if the prices are comparable. How the rest of you feel about this???

  19. I actually sized down for Blythe, my normal size will work too, but sizing up will be too baggy.

  20. I just checked my account - yes, I grabbed something I'd been stalking, and the order says "waitlisted." What does that mean? As opposed to backordered, released, whatever. I haven't heard about a "waitlist" since the snobby days of the Jeweled Jardin Jacket.

  21. Samantha: I sized down in my fiesta purple Blythe, but that's not to say it won't work on you in the larger size, especially if you tuck it in to something. That gorgeous color is worth it!

  22. Samantha, I am typically a 0 or even a 00 in some blouses and I got a 2 in the Blythe (just because I had enough of stalking it in the green color) and it has a more relaxed/boyfriend fit but it doesn't look like I am wearing something two sizes bigger. I think that the style of the blouse allows it. I say go for it!

  23. Well I'm a day late for the reviews thread but just got my big 20% off order and most of it's going back. Here are the items:

Fanfare cardigan--standard merino, full sleeve length, tts, seems good quality.

Madelene dress in festival green: well made, nice fabric, nice color, but I just feel silly in the voluminous skirt. Too retro 50s housewife for me. Going back. I am between 12/14 and the 12 fit well.

Ella dress in medallion paisley: print is nice as it shows on the website, but this ran very very small on me, and skirt fell several inches above the knee. Going back.

Telegraph pencil skirt in super 120s--size up in this one, since it's high waisted and hugs the tummy area. Falls just below the knee. I actually liked this, but I feel that even with the discount $100+ is a bit too expensive for the lightweight fabric so I am returning and will rebuy if price comes down more.

valentina pumps and valentina slingbacks: sadly, neither worked as they are just too narrow for me, even when I sized up. They look lovely but the leather is stiff and I don't think I could wear them in to be more comfy. Shoes have leather lining but plastic soles.

Classic merino cardigan: this runs LONG. It's roomier and longer than the Eden cardigan, for example. It's going back b/c it looks like a short robe on me.

Thea maxidress: fabric very thin and flimsy. Also noticeably shorter on me than other JC maxidresses, which I usually find to be adequately long on 5'9" me. This may work for you without hemming if you are petite to average height.

Saw new arrivals out on floor today. Like that some of the new printed pencil skirts are longer than the 22" ones of the last rollout. But pricing is a put off. The new paisley pencil that is slightly longer is $148. They should just price it a more reasonable $98 and let it sell through at full price rather than training customers to wait for sale.

  24. samantha - I agree w/Ema that you will be ok w/one size larger in the Blythe.

audreys - Personal shoppers get commission, I believe. Don't quote me. I've seen a couple of (ahem) run-ins. I sometimes feel bad doing returns in-store. If I know I'm exchanging or getting something else, I will go to the same store. Sometimes I go to a different store. Going to a store that I frequent less allows me to focus in a different way. Quite often I *don't* feel bad because I know that they will likely be getting their money back before I leave the store or soon after. Sometimes it's just easier to order online, then work w/my ps on sizing & colors from there. Esp if I'm just trying something. I prefer no person take the hit when I'm not at all sure I want it.

Cass - Thanks for sharing info on the Thea maxi. I ordered it in the wee minutes of the promo to try. In the process of lowering my expectations as I type.

  25. Well... I *thought* I had purchased it last night. But, when I look at my order summary there is nothing there from yesterday! I have no idea what happened! I am trying to remember just how tired I was when I did this and if I did in fact see the final checkout screen haha. I swear I remember looking at the final cost, but I also remember having to refresh the page once because I got the "Please come back later, we are working on the site."

*Sigh* probably a sign that I was going a little overboard with my purchase anyway. Guess I will be waiting for the next FP promo, if that happens this year (I kid... but really).
