This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.
Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)
Hello!
ReplyDeleteFirst time commenter, here.
I ordered the Tall Bennett Chino in poppy (# 50982H). I plan on wearing these pants both with heels and tucked-under with flats, so styling for either option is very much welcomed.
Thank you in advance!

ReplyDeleteI see the website has it paired with a light blue shirt -- a chambray one might work too, either in blue or in grey. If you like animal prints, those would work too, in my opinion.

ReplyDeleteVibrant Flame merino turtleneck. Help! Need work and casual ideas. Sitting in my drawer, no idea what to pair it with to tone it down (black trousers do not work unless you're going for a Halloween look).

I still have not worn my modern red bubble necklace...please help, otherwise it will be on the "looking to sell" board Monday!!! I have tried it will tees and I think it's me, I am 5'3" and not too big on top, it looks like the bubbles lay funny. Maybe I need to adjust the chain length??? Thanks all!!!!
ReplyDelete@ Laura, I agree with Rose, I have worn my animal print perfect shirt with poppy pants and chambray as well, love that combo IMO.
MB... if i'm thinking of the right necklace, that's one hell of a statement piece! i personally like to keep things simple when there's one piece i'm wearing that i want to take all the focus... so i'd probably wear that necklace with a simple button down shirt (white, chambray, even a subtle print with the same color as the necklace) leaving the top few buttons open... or pair it with a strapless navy or black dress... even just a plain v-neck t-shirt and jeans.
ReplyDeleteFor JCAs who may have missed my comment on Tuesday's review thread (I posted late on Tuesday night), I put together a couple outfits based around the heather spearmint cashmere tee (see blog post here. I found heather spearmint was a hard colour to work with, as I was trying to create something with a bit of zing to it, difficult to do as this is a pastel that normally is worn with neutrals and usually fades into the background as a result.
ReplyDeleteMER, I find orange to look great with cobalt or navy blue. I think it would also look great with the blue/orange paisley pencil skirt or a similar print.
ReplyDeleteLouise, I Love the use of the pin on your skirt. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMER, try the vibrant flame with camel.
ReplyDeleteHelp! I have now tried on and then removed the polka-dot blouson dress like 8 times. I can't figure out what to wear over it to make it office-appropriate. Tried it with my Nolita denim jacket and red shoes and then with a cardigan, and I just looked like a demented old lady no matter what I did.
ReplyDeleteElaine, I second your cry for help with the polka dot blouson dress. I've resigned myself to only wearing it on weekends but would love to wear it to the office, too! I think it's the fabric... but would love to hear if there's a way to make it office worthy.
ReplyDeleteJ.CrewJD, do you have the royal paisley version? Because I don't have the same trouble with that. Very odd. Maybe the dot one fits differently? Maybe it's the print? But no matter what I put on top this morning, my hips looked a mile wide, boo hoo. :(
ReplyDeleteElaine, I do have the royal paisley! And you're right, that one works fine. I also have the hot pink stripe from last summer; never had a problem with that one either.
ReplyDeleteSo, I conclude that it is totally the print. But I love the print! Dilemma...
Elaine and JCrewJD, I have the polka-dot blouson dress and I'm planning to wear it to the office as well. I am going to wear it with my black Nouvelle jacket in Super 120s, a thin cobalt blue leather belt, and slingback pumps in black. The Nouvelle jacket works well because it is a longer length than the Schoolboy.
ReplyDelete(original)Genny - Thank you! :-)
Elaine, JCrewJD, I've worn my blouson dresses last summer with blazers (like the Mackenzie jacket) as well as with cardigans (merino cielo and the cadabra).
ReplyDeleteRose and Louise, I think I'll try my super 120s nouvelle jacket with the dress! I hadn't thought of wearing something so "dressy" with it but I can see how it would work.
ReplyDeleteMER,
ReplyDeleteI think the vibrant flame works great with brown as well. It tones it done without looking Halloween-y. I would pair it with matchsticks and brown boots for a more casual look. I was a bit afraid of the vibrant flame at first but now I LOVE it.
HI Louise, I just LOVE your blog. It covers so much. I agree with you about the Prada outfit. It was heaven. I have the skirt you are wearing in the first pic and I might try a Spearmint sweater with it! I have been wanting that color but never knew how to wear it. Thank!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shekster! I found pale green such a tough colour to work with, I thought it might be helpful if I posted about it here.
ReplyDeleteElaine and JD -- so funny! I love my royal paisley and was so frustrated with styling my polka dot that I sold it last week. I wear the royal paisley with a v-neck Jenna and a skinny belt.
ReplyDeleteWearing it with a jacket, though -- brilliant idea!
Heartthrob shirt! Help! Seems simple, huh? I'm petite and curvy so it must be tucked in to nip my waist. So what wash of denim would you pair it with? Dark, medium/vintage, or white? Belt? Gold, cobalt blue, true kelly green? Shoes? Cobalt blue, kelly green, navy?
ReplyDeleteRecently purchased the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Jazzy Purple, as well as the velvet Schoolboy Blazer in Heather Chartreuse. I've paired them both with the J.Crew Factory two-pocket chambray shirt, as well as the standard white Perfect Shirt and Jackie cardigan for the skirt. Any other ideas would be much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteHi, again, like Laura, a first timer. I have in my cart that gorgeous Jardin skirt, and what a price! I ordered it in purple, so what would be extra-wonderful with this? And shoes?? And leg covering? I don't know what to do in the spring and summer with my legs. In the winter, I'm fine, wear tights and leggings, I adore them, but what to do with white, white stick legs? Thanks for anything you want to send me.
