Regular: $88.00
"Thanks!" to lilaccupcake (in this post) who reminded us about one of J.Crew's latest arrivals... Among the ruffles of the latest collection, J.Crew slipped the Kelsey Ruffle Top.
J.Crew describes the top as: "An utterly fabulous top —we want one in every color. Luxe silk habotai with a bloom of cascading ruffles around the neckline. Perfect alone or underneath a sweater. Button front."
By now, I think its über clear that I love the ruffles! However, I am not loving this top. I know, I am surprised that I don't like it too!!! There is just something about this top that I am not going crazy for.
Dare I even say this, but... there may be too much ruffles goin' on. The way the ruffles frame the face looks like a lion's mane to me.
If I had to buy a ruffle top, I would prefer to get the Silk Frances Cami (Item 17428; $88.00), or even another Victoria Ruffle Cami (Item 99742; Regular: $88.00, now $29.99).
What are your thoughts on the Kelsey Ruffle Top? Do you "love it" or would you "leave it"? Have you seen this top in-person? If so, please share with us your review. :)
Quick Poll: Do you like the Kelsey Ruffle Top?
I agree Alexis-too many ruffles! I saw this top and thought it looked clownish. I love ruffles and have my share of Victoria shirts and a new frances so there is no need for this over the top ruffle shirt in my closet.
ReplyDeleteI did however receive my Lombard cardi (18281) in the mail yesterday and ADORE it!! My only regret is that I did not get it in the Guava color too. I noticed that it is sold out in this color in my size. Worth every penny of the steep $118 price tag.
Too messy! After the victoria, lydia, elizabeth etc they just keep adding on more ruffles to the point of ruining the look. I felt the same way about the frances.
ReplyDeleteI may be the lone dissenter here, but i love the top! I guess I just can't ever get enough of ruffles... :) I also love the plum raisin color.
ReplyDeleteNot crazy about this top. It's too much of the same for me, and I feel like I've seen this top done elsewhere already before, KWIM?
ReplyDeleteI love your "new" layout, Alexis! I'm not sure how new it actually is, but it's been a few days since I've been on your site, so it's new to me. ♥
I love the plum raisin color in this, but jeez...enough w/the ruffle camis. They're all a variation on the same theme. I'm starting to have embarassment for the designers. Are they mailing it in or what.
ReplyDeleteATTN SF Bay Area JCAs --- Urban Allure is offering a laser/skin care special thru my blog. Feel free to pass along the info to family & friends in the area.

Has anyone seen Seinfeld? It reminds me of the puffy shirt. Pirate style. Definite no.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I love ruffles, but this is a bit of ruffle-overload. It looks like it'd be really bunchy around the neck if you tried to layer it under a blazer. The volume reminds me of those airline neck pillows.
ReplyDeleteI would like to try this one on before I decide if I like it. I didn't like the victoria or francis because of the stand up ruffle around the neck, so this one may work for me.
ReplyDeleteI am ruffled out.
ReplyDeleteLooks like final sale is gone!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought that about the final sale as well. However, read the asterisk. All sales are still final. Just get rid of the final sale already! I can't guarantee that anything fits with JC anymore!!
ReplyDeleteoh sorry, hust saw the sale page changed and jumped the gun:-(
ReplyDeleteRuffles ruffles ruffles! When will it end?! They get more over the top with every new item introduced. It's a pass for me.
ReplyDeleteI really like ruffles but I am not a fan of this top. I may be to the point where I no longer even like ruffles b/c JCrew is so over the top with them. Enough already!
ReplyDeleteIf the Frances cami came in plum raisin, I would own it already. But the ruffles on this top are just too much.
ReplyDeleteI do love this top, but I actually already have a very similar version put out by ATL this season! I actually think I might like ATL's version better - and all of you out there that think the J.Crew version is a little ruffle-heavy, you might like it too.
ReplyDeleteYou can find it here: http://www.anntaylorloft.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=20262&N=1200032&pCategoryId=3360&categoryId=219&Ns=CATEGORY_SEQ_219&loc=LN&gridSize=sm&showAll=true&defaultColor=Wineberry&defaultSizeType=Petite
It comes in that same deep purple color but is a more cotton fabric and has more edited ruffles!
ann taylor (regular) also has a couple less crazy ruffle options.
ReplyDeleteI think I've had enough ruffles for now. I like Elizabeth and Victoria, but Frances IRL was too much for me and Kelsey is OTT. Too bad because I am looking for a top in the plum raisin color.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing something NEW that isn't so darn ruffly.
I must be old because I feel like I have the first incarnation of this as the "emelia/amelia" blouse:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/emelia-blouse
Granted the emelia has short sleeves, but it seems to be a similar look and feel to me. And the emelia was 2007!
I think I'm ruffled out at this point, as well. This top will definitely be a *no go* for me.
ReplyDeleteHexicon,
ReplyDeleteI agree; the Frances was too busy for me with the pleats and ruffles and higher "tickly" collar.
I am all ruffled out. No more, please. Stop the insanity:)
Twiga: I got the Lombard cardi in sweet guava, and I have a question for you. Where the ruffles on yours made of silk habotai? I thought silk habotai was what the ruffles on the Victoria cami are made from. The Lombard description says silk habotai, but the ruffles on my cardi are definitely made from some sort of cotton-y material, and the edges are raw, not laser-cut like the description says. In fact, they are already slightly frayed. Did anyone else have this issue? Do I just not know what silk habotai and laser-cutting is? WTF?
ReplyDeleteThis top was featured in Lucky magazine, forgot what month it was tho...but it's also on their website
ReplyDeletehttp://www.luckymag.com/style/2009/08/ruffled_blouses?slide=7
It's called the "Camilla" instead on "Kelsey" and it's $80 instead of $88
I still like ruffles, but i don't like the style of this top. Like Cass, i think it's too messy. It hasn't established its identity apart from the ruffles, a combination of the Elizabeth, the Frances cami, the Frances blouse sans strings. (Do i see a bit of the Lydia too? :) ) I agree with Chloe; it's too much of the same. The color is quite nice though.
ReplyDeleteWell at least I wasn't the only one with the same thoughts on this cami! ;)
ReplyDeleteChloe: Thanks for the nice words about the layout. It was actually your blog (with its recent layout change) that inspired me to update the JCA! :)
I posted a picture of some of the fraying on the Lombard cardigan if anyone is curious. I would love to know if anyone else had this problem, or if I just got a dud!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I forgot to include a link! Click here to see what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI loveeeee this and actually bought it. not too many ruffles for me :)
ReplyDeleteI've gotten SO many compliments on this top, I have two colors in a 6. Its the perfect style for me, with MAX freedom of movement (sleeveless) and silk (lightweight/breathable). Love it & am looking for more =)
