The only thing worth noting is that ClothingLine's website no longer includes the line "bags, jewelry, and footwear will arrive 9/15". (It originally included that line, which can be seen in this post.) Does this mean that there will be no bags, jewelry, and footwear?
The location for the event is:

Will you be attending this latest sample sale tomorrow? If you are, please let us know! If you could also share any information (e.g. merchandise selection, quantity, prices), it would be greatly appreciated. :)
Thanks for the reminder - I am def heading over to this one today!

I was planning on going on the 15th...hmmm. I hope the shoes and jewelry will still be there. Has anyone else been to NYC sales? What time should I get there in the morning?
ReplyDeleteDo you have to check your bags before you go in? I have a large briefcase/purse and a lunchbag.
ReplyDeleteLifeStyleBohemia & MCW: Ooo! Please do share how the sale is. I hope its good! :)
ReplyDeleteMeb783: I attended the first sample sale of J.Crew at ClothingLine and they did make me check-in my bag. I have a feeling that is their policy for all sample sales. I hope this bit of info helps. :)
It seems as if the sample sales have become a regular event now. I wonder how long they'll continue to have them?
ReplyDeleteFFM: I know what you mean! I never saw a sample or warehouse sale before this year. Now those sample sales seem to be happening every other month- which is kind of fun. I would love to see a warehouse sale. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Alexis! I plan on heading there sometime during this sale, and I'm a little apprehensive about checking my purse (I'd carry my wallet, but I have other things in my purse that I'd hate to be stolen/lost!) Does it seem secure?
ReplyDeletethose who go...report back! I'm planning on going tomorrow during lunch. In my past experience, I've NEVER had a problem checking bags, but you should take your wallet so you can pay for your merch. :) The first sample sale was a ZOO, and I waited in line for an hour. The second and third were less so, and I waltzed right in - no wait. :) I'm hoping this one will be the same as some of the hype is gone...
ReplyDeleteMeb783: It's not incredibly secure- the cubicles of storage (if employees want to search through your stuff, they can), but it is secure from the general shoppers. With that said, I would leave my stuff there, and as JC recommended, hold onto my wallet while shopping around. :)
ReplyDeleteJC: LOL! The first sample sale was a bit of a zoo! And the waiting in line, during the cold, was totally not worth it. ;)
Gosh, I wish I still lived in New York :o( BOO!
ReplyDeleteSOOOO, anyone go yet? Is it worth it?
ReplyDeleteAll in all my take on this month's sample sale (I have been to every one since January) is that it is a big bust! Prices have increased, some over 100%. The staff members are rude and incompetent. My girlfriend got the same item as I did. The cashier that rang her up for the item rang it up at half the price that I was charged. There is a guy almost yelling throughout the space "no tryons" and there is basically a bunch of junk or highly overpriced items. I am very disappointed - if J Crew is wanting to move some inventory, they are not going to do it in this venue.
ReplyDeleteSounds just like the January sale! $60 for a sweater with SAMPLE written on it with a Sharpie is NOT a great deal! And I agree with you Alexis, standing in line in the freezing cold for an hour to get in was not worth it! My husband was pretty mad I dragged him to it so early in the morning! I felt very comfortable checking my coat and bag...but I wouldn't leave anything valuable in a checked bag ever, anyway.
ReplyDeleteWent there today during lunch break. No lines... not too crowded. I didn't check in my bag coz mine is a tote without zipper. If you carry a small bag or unzipped bag, they'll let you in without checking the bag.
ReplyDeleteYes, the same old $60 cashmere sweaters. This time more stocks (samples) but prices are outrageous! There are a lot of jackets and coats; mostly samples. Quality isn't good as I saw some rips or tears inside the jacket (lining). Some "special items" like the abstract roses wool dress and the blue watercolor wool dress for $50 I believe. I only got a blouse as I can't find my size in most of the items I like. It clearly states that tee/top/tank for $20 (no mention of blouse/cami), but when I went to pay, the lady said it's $30! I was like WHAT?!
Many size S and size 6. Yes, many is written with the word "SAMPLE" on the inside of the garments including the white/ivory color! I can't believe they'd put those out there to sell! They're not like $5!! According to the people who work there, bags and shoes will be available next Monday.
Does anyone know of any reviews of the watercolor toirtoiseshell pencil skirt? TIA!
ReplyDeleteI went to the sample sale yesterday around 4:30 - no lines and I had to check my jacket but not my purse.
ReplyDeleteThis was my first sample sale so I wasn't sure what to expect. There were signs for how much things were but no prices on the actual clothes. $60 cashmere sweaters, $40 wool sweaters, $55 for jackets, $150 for coats/outerwear, $20 tees or 2 for $30. Some Collection leather coats for $299. Special occasion dresses were $75 (silk tricotine Cecelia short, Sophia short came in almost every size (0-16) and a solid choice of colors: vintage burgundy, oasis green, black, navy, ivory are the colors I noticed). There were some cotton cady dresses (Sydney and some Ericas) and a bunch of black silk chiffon black twist tanks. They had puffers there too but they were still $99 which I thought was still a bit high especially for a puffer vest.
I noticed that most of the pants were Fall 08 items. Most of the coats/outerwear were size 6-8. The clothing is separated by color instead of size which I found a little annoying since you have to go through everything.
Also, they don't let you try-on anything but the jackets (maybe the dresses in the wedding area but I didn't go in there). However, they do allow exchanges (no money back) until the day the sale ends next Thursday.
Cashiers are doing everything by hand/brain so definitely do your own math first. My cashier didn't clear out the purchase before me so she had to re-ring it.
And yes, accessories, bags and jewelry will be there on Monday - and so will I!
ilovejcrew!: Some prices increased by over 100%- that is crazy on J.Crew's part. That doesn't make a lot of sense. So they didn't move the merchandise the first few times around, but surely they will once the price increases?!? ;)
ReplyDeleteLindsey B.: LOL! I see I wasn't the only one who felt the wait in the cold for the first sample sale was *not* worth it. :)
Kendra: I haven't tried on the skirt. But it is lovely! :)
Jean & Leigh: Thank you for reporting back! That is so nice of you two. :) Too bad the prices sound the same from before. And to see some rips or tears in the jacket is disappointing. :(
And good advice Leigh about knowing your totals beforehand! It would be awful if they charged you for items from another shopper's previous purchase.
Hi I am new to the blog but I went to the sample sale in NYC as well and what a rip off. I left with nothing, what is the point when you can get better deals when Jcrew has their sales and the sales on line. On top of everything the word SAMPLE is written in black ink on everything with a permenaent magic marker that you can see through all the clothes. Your better off waiting for a sale at the store this way you can return stuff in case you change your mind. Jcrew sample sale organizers need to come down to earth we are not stupid 60.00 dollars for a sweater that is selling for 39.99 on line is not a deal.
ReplyDeleteI went to the sample sale today and I agree with others - overpriced and staff is very crabby!! I walked out with nothing! Originally, I went up to the register with 3 items - 2 jackets and a scarf. The jackets were hanging on the "casual jackets" rack so I thought they were $55 each. At the register the lady said they were $149 each! I said no thanks. Then she rang up the scarf (the sign said scarves were $25) and she said it was $40. When I said that I thought the scarves were $25 she said "not the cashmere scarves". Maybe I missed that sign or something. I did see a small leather purse that I wanted but it had a broken zipper and the strap would have to be replaced because it didn't match - priced at $79. Again, way over priced for all the changes I would have to make to it.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand - it is a sample sale so why the high prices? If JC is serious about selling this stuff then they really need to drop the prices. Today at 2:00pm, there was still alot of inventory and hardly anyone there.
Anybody know if shoes and bags have arrived?? Or is that tomorrow? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDropped by the samples sale again today during lunch hour... no shoes but lots of bags... including some small and medium size leather bags. I got a yellow chiffon organza tote bag (with leather handles) for only $25! There are also some clutches. According to the SA there, shoes will be available tomorrow. The clothing selection is the same as it was on the first day. Not exciting and there was no crowd. The cashier line is very empty... maybe one or two persons waiting at most. Saw a few of the French Serge Coat in size 2... they're are all samples.
ReplyDeleteI checked this out on Thursday. I agree with everyone else - not impressive. What I couldn't understand, though, is that pretty much everyone I saw was carrying items. Now, I don't know if they actually ended up buying anything...but I couldn't believe so many people were finding things they liked for those prices!
ReplyDeleteThere was a royal blue cashmere sweater there that I got for Christmas from the outlet 2 years ago. This was the exact same one, as it had the outlet double-diamonds and everything. And it was more expensive that my "original" outlet one was! Pretty ridiculous.
The only thing that would have tempted me was printed cardigans in unique patterns (pretty much all I buy from J.Crew besides swimwear), but there were VERY few non-argyle printed cardigans, good for me I guess ;)
I'm curious to know how the shoes are tomorrow! I really want flat riding boots, so I'd be tempted to stop by again if people say they see them there!
I went today (second to last day) and was a total bust. If I even found something I liked, it was either missing a seam, had a hole, had pins all over it holding it together, written on, stained, or was completely put together wrong - as in you couldn't put your arm in it (I'm serious) hahaha
ReplyDeleteThe shoes were all $65. NO THANKS. I can get better prices on ebay, thanks. Unless they had Lulu's.. but they didn't. And all the leather bags were $75 (which would usually be a great price) but they either had stains or scratches or missing straps - oh, and fyi, all of them were written inside with pen or Sharpie. It was all such crap. I saw so many unhemmed skirts and pants.. I would be ashamed to try and sell that stuff with the J Crew label on if I were them - especially at those prices! I did find some really nice coats but size 6 fit like a 10 and 2 fit like a XXS. They had a bunch of the lovely jacquard coats and jackets, but almost half of them had shoulders that were attached wrong so once you had them on, it was all twisted and uncomfortable. Totally ridiculous.
They didn't say anything if you tried on stuff, btw. This one girl had a giant pile and was in the middle of the floor trying stuff on for a good 30 minutes and no one said anything to her - but again, no mirrors, so go with someone else with a camera.
for anyone who's gone, were there any good blazers? good selection of blazers? prices of them? thanks! this could save me a trip.
