The J.Crew Clearance Store at the distribution center in Arden is hosting a Sidewalk Sale this Saturday, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The store is at 1 Clifford Way, off N.C. 191.
A sales associate at the store today said the store is trying to host these once a month, with at least 1 or 2 big super sales each season.
The pickings are good at the store on late summer items right now, so if you don't have a chance to shop the sale tomorrow, head over to the store for some bargains.
If only I lived near there, I would be all over this sale. ;) And I just know (I can feel it) that the prices and quality of the merchandise for this sidewalk sale will be better than the Sample Sale in NYC (refer to the "J.Crew's 5th Sample Sale Starts Today! :)" post).
Planning to attend? If so, please share details! If you can share the quality and prices of items, that would be fantastic. :)
Yes, someone please take pics so we can know what to expect on eBay. I'm sure the hunters will be out in full force.
ReplyDeleteHow cool would that be to go to!
ReplyDeleteCame across a little article about Jenna's office on another blog I *love* too, check it out: http://theneotraditionalist.com/2009/09/11/inside-jenna-lyons-office/
enjoy!
I have been to these in Arden and everything is priced $20 and under. Lots of capris, shorts, tank tops, belts, flip flops, stuff like that. I can never find the expensive stuff at the sales- but there store there has items with prices up to $750.
ReplyDeleteI am from Asheville, NC and just recently found out about the clearance center in Arden. I had my mom go check it out for me. She has been a few times now (and I can't wait to check it out next time I visit NC). The inventory has been differnet each time she has been there. The prices are great (tops are $5 - $12 and bottoms are around $15). She said they have a huge shoe selection, some bags and a few other accessories. She snagged me a pair of gold ballet flats for $5.00! The sidewalk sales are monthly, but she hasn't made it to one. Everyone who can go - enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI've been to many of these sidewalk sales. Ilovejcrew! is right, nothing is over $20. The problem is, most of the items are crappy, and they are all mixed in boxes, with mens, womens, children all mixed together. Literally, in crumpled piles in cardboard boxes.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I've gotten some good stuff, but you have to wait in a long line and dig through boxes forever to find gems.
The best things I've found at a sidewalk sale was a pair of madewell rail straight white jeans, for $10. I also got a cute sample sweater vest from 2005, and black cafe capris for $10. Oh and swimwear is $3 a piece for two pieces, and $6 for one pieces. Getting a one piece from JCrew for $6 is a pretty good deal! They had Milla tanks in the last sidewalk sale, and they were $5 (or maybe $8, not sure. They have a price list). Too bad they weren't my size, I was so sad!
Don't expect to find cashmere, jewelry, many shoes, or many dresses. And beware that many of the items are ripped, have stains, etc. If you go, make sure you very carefully inspect everything before you check out.
Just don't expect it to be ANYTHING like the sample sales in NYC. Of course, the prices are much, much lower too, and if/when you do find something perfect for you, it's really exciting!
Unfortunately, I have to miss this one. And I somewhat hate the fact that this is widely publicized all of a sudden because if hundreds of people go it will be totally worthless for everyone, because there is not that much merchandise at each sale. Then again, who the heck lives in Asheville? Not that many people :) (besides my family)
I'd love to go! The only people I know in Asheville are pretty boho/hippie and are decidedly NOT JCAs, so it's completely wasted on them. I wonder if JC will ever do like Birkenstock and have pop up clearance stores? I hit that every year when I lived in Savannah, and there would be tons of discontinued stuff.
ReplyDeleteHappy foraging to all who go!
Em: Oh, plenty of hippies live in Asheville :)
ReplyDeleteEven though I'm pretty close to this, I won't be going...I'm SO over Summer stuff right now, and I don't feel like fighting the masses just to score a pair of shorts. If you are nearby and you love jcrew shoes though, their selection is quite impressive. They literally have a WALL of shoes. It's beautiful.
haha, CheesyGoodness: we were on the same wavelength! There is a ritzy section of Asheville (near Biltmore) but otherwise it's pretty crunchy.
ReplyDeleteJCrew used to host these types of sales all over. They would have them near me in IL each year in early 2000's. But they stopped a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteCheesyGoodness--how long ago did JC have these wonderful popup sales in Savannah? I'm in Savannah now and completely miss having a local B&M. we moved from DC where I was within walking distance of tyson's corner and before that in NYC where they are on every corner!
ReplyDeleteInteresting... I went to a J.Crew sale like this *years* ago (like 15 years ago) in Overland Park, Kansas. Back then everything was all piled in boxes, but there were coats and dresses and shoes - tons of stuff. I was wondering why I hadn't seen anything like that again. I guess they never come to Denver. :(
ReplyDeletemarissa, sorry, I meant that Birkenstock did pop up sales. They set up in one of the empty stores on the west end of Broughton St., across from where the Birk. store is now. I totally get your JC blues, I shopped online too much when I lived down there! I don't know how it is now, but you could get good stuff at the JC outlet on Hilton Head, and if your tastes run to Abercrombie, the A&F at the Savannah Mall is the clearance center for all stores east of the Mississippi (or so goes local shopping legend.) Camis for $5, jeans and sweaters for $20, etc. There's LOTS of fun shopping in Charleston and some good shows at the Music Farm, too, and if you go to Atlanta, the shopping is awesome. Enjoy your time down there, and have a PBR at Pinky's for me!
ReplyDeleteAppGal, you had me at "wall of shoes." That phrase brings a tear of joy to my eye!
Appgal: Ohhh the wall of shoes. It is glorious!
ReplyDeleteUnless you wear a 10, because they only have about 5 pairs of 10s at any given time. Sad!
But they often have current heels for $70, flats for $50. It's pretty awesome. I assume the c-store in Lynchburg is similar?
CG, you totally wrote birkenstock but i glazed over at popup sale and JCrew and thought that was what you were talking about. i haven't been to HH yet but it sounds like i may have to go soon.
ReplyDeleteFor those of you interested in seeing pics of this "wall of shoes" mentioned, check out Julia's blog here. There are pics of the clearance center toward the bottom.(Julia--hope you don't mind that I linked you!)
ReplyDeleteOMG WOS!!!! I think I drooled a little bit.
ReplyDeleteoh...my...god...shoe wall...
ReplyDeleteAs would I! I would like to see that wall of shoes....
ReplyDeleteOT: If anyone would like a $20 off $100 from babyGap home, I have a one-use coupon code that I'm barring myself from using. It expires Nov. 17. They have alot of stuff that's not Gap brand like the wood Plan Toys that's awesome, Jellycat toys, books, and more practical gear like strollers. I know there are some pregnant JCAs and plenty of us with little kiddos, first to email me can have the code. klg underscore 12 at hotmail dot com
ReplyDeleteOh, and a Martin and Osa 20 % off code, one use, expires Sep. 23, if anyone wants that, too.
I stopped at the clearance center this summer on my way back from OH to SC. I loved the wall of shoes! Unfortunately, they didn't have my size in the shoes I wanted. :( You do have to look over items carefully - the cami my sister wanted had a small tear in, yet they were only willing to take 10% off (and it was $40!). They did have tons of pants - just random. I will definitely stop there any time I'm passing by. It's right off of I-40. I hope those who can go to this sale find some goodies!
ReplyDeletebabyGap code claimed, M+O sill available.
ReplyDeleteOT, but speaking of the ruffle trend, this little WHBM jacket is too FABULOUS for words on:
ReplyDeletehttp://tinyurl.com/nabs87
(in case the link doesn't work, the style number is 300113497)
Where do I start? The price is great (code 8935 gets you 20% off your entire order through 10/4), the fit is TTS, is it WASHABLE and the ruffles are just right - not too little and not too much. I can't wait to receive it!!! :)
ok, to add to my above post, for some reason, the jacket is $98 online and $148 in my store. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteSHOE WALL!?!?! Jaw ON. THE. FLOOR. I am so jealous!!
Hmmm, wonder if the Secaucus dist center has a shoe wall.....how's that for wishful thinking?!
This sounds awesome, if not to just stock up on basics. Too bad I am no where NEAR this. :-(
ReplyDeleteugh - I'm in NC but in the triangle area so Arden would be 4hrish ride for me. Dang it. If anyone goes to the sale and clearance and would like to be a good samaritan and p/u if there the ever elusive travel trench in 8 and graphite spectator peep toes in 9 or 9.5......A girl can dream right?
ReplyDeleteI am very jealous!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am very near this clearance center, I wouldn't be up to going through boxes of stuff! Doesn't sound like fun fighting crowds either. I think ordering regular JCrew items online is enough work--checking them over and/or finding defects is part of regular shopping with them recently!
ReplyDeleteLol @ Genny... so true. You already have to check for holes with FP items! What a laugh.
ReplyDeleteMy mom usually goes to the "sidewalk sales" (which are often inside the warehouse so it's nice and hot!) but she's on vacation so she's missing this one. Last month, they had one of the "super sales" and she missed that one as well... so not sure what those are like. Probably just more stuff and more people! I'm hoping to go to one next month perhaps if it coincides with fall break. But it's definitely a tough morning of rummaging through boxes! If anyone goes, let us know if you find anything halfway decent.
Unbelievable day for me at this sale! I found THE chiffon rose tee from last fall in white for $5. Just a mark through the label, perfect otherwise! Also got some matchsticks for $15 and a Campo bag at the clearance store next to the warehouse for $110, and I could use my teacher discount. If you live driving distance, it could definitely be worth it if you don't mind spending the time to dig around! The sales person said they have these once a month.
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm confused....does anyone know what the hours are for this store? Is it only open during these special/monthly sales?
ReplyDeleteI live about an hour away and don't want to drive up and find it closed!!
Thanks!
P.S. Kristen, congrats on your purchases! That's awesome!
J: The store is open every day.
ReplyDeleteThe new hours are:
10am-8pm Monday-Saturday and 11am-6pm on Sunday
Em: Thanks! I hope to make a trip up in the next few weeks.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so glad I found this blog/blog post! You've given me hope! I heard about the store on another blog and my fiance refuses to believe it exists since there is zero info online. I called J.Crew to see if they'd give me any info and they told me no such store existed!!
ReplyDeleteI'm determined to go this weekend when I'm in the area, so thanks for the info!!
Does the clearance center carry crewcuts?
ReplyDeleteC and Y: Yes, they have a small section of crewcuts. I didn't look closely, but they seemed to carry the smaller sizes.
