J.Crew Spotted In Oprah Magazine

"Thanks!" to Crew Cricket (in this post) who let us know that several items from J.Crew are featured in the latest issue of Oprah Magazine (click here).

J.CREW ACCESSORIES
Then: Pretty, casual

Now: Posh instant heirlooms

No preppy critter motifs in J.Crew's lavish new fall accessories catalog: "A canvas tote is great, but no girl swoons over it—we want leather bags, satin shoes, sparkly jewelry," says creative director Jenna Lyons. Sang A likes the "vintage feeling" of these necklaces, combining glass stones and bows in an unusual smoky palette ($98 and $125). Top, J.Crew, $90.

The following are the items discussed:
  • Silk pleated posy top (Item 18679; $89.50)
  • Duchess stone necklace (Item 19521; $98.00
  • Crystal thornbush necklace (Item 20735; $135.00)
What are your thoughts on the items featured? Do you like the style of the top? Do you care for the layering of the necklaces? Do you agree that J.Crew's accessories are "posh instant heirlooms"?

  1. As much as I love j.crew camis, I am soooo camied out. I really wish they would make some of these with sleeves for a change.

  2. What is going on with the Crystal Thornbush Necklace? It looks like part of the chain is missing at first glance and on further inspection, as though a few more mistakes made. I understand it is not supposed to be symmetrical but lately it appears as though they have implemented "come to work drunk Thursdays" or something.

    Mess.

  3. "come to work drunk Thursdays" LOL, I feel the same way a about the vineyard necklace, it looks like it's broken.

  4. There is just way too much going on at the neckline, IMO.

  6. I was wondering if they have a different jewelry designer now or is it still Lisa?

Their jewelry line changed a lot this season (I have some CHUNKY charm bracelets and stone bead ribbon necklaces from past seasons).

I read "our jewelry designer Molly" somewhere on the website and I thought it was Lisa before?

Have a good Monday, Alexis! :)

  7. I saw this cami IRL and didn't care for it much since it's just too much ruffles. Also, I'm still can't pull off the layered look for jewelry although some ladies may rock it. It seems like JC is trying to sell more merchandise to us by trying to sell us the layered look - jewelry, belts, shirts, etc... all over the catalog. Some layers are ok, but how many belts can a person wear at one time in real life?

  8. I was thinking the same thing, the model in the Oct. catalog must have 2-3 belts on over the sherpa VEST!!!!

  9. I think those necklaces are a tad bit pricey. I say borrow some of grandmas rhinestone jewels and create your own.

I am inspired by the JCrew Libretto and Cyrstal Symphony necklace for my diy necklace later this week. Total cost $6.

I am not a fan of the 'wear every accessory you own look' that seems to be very popular right now.

  10. Jemma Ruby, I am so with you! I look terrible in all their camis--just don't have the arms for them. I'd love the same type of style with some cap sleeves.

  11. Check out the picture on p. 4 of the cat. If I wore that many chunky bracelets & a watch, I wouldn't be able to lift my little wrist, hee hee.

  12. JCMama totally agree....the layered look is starting to look just plain sloppy in the catalogs. They are pushing this idea too hard as its not always applicable to real life office looks.

  13. The top looks really pretty in the pictures, but I wasn't too impressed when I saw it in stores. The flowers weren't fluffed, so they were all flat and weirdly creased. Too high maintenance of a top for me!

  14. I love this top because it accessorizes for you! Everyone is right about the necklaces... if you wore this top IRL you would never pair a huge chunky necklace with it, maybe a subtle chain...

  15. This cami is what I would create if I wanted to parody the ruffle/bow/flower applique trend/crapola we have been seeing everywhere, and especially at J.Crew, this season. It has all of it!
Hate the whole combo and I am sick of the layering J.Crew is doing, you can't see any one particular element very well.

  16. I worry the top would look like a hot mess on me. I would be fussing with it all day. & Jemma - so true about sleeves! It's fall already, J.Crew! If you give me a cami I'm automatically going to have to pair with a cardi which is difficult to do with all that going on at the neckline on this one. Don't think I would get that top. But I love the necklaces!

  17. Bug Pin - Just read your comment - LOL had to laugh, you were right on the HOT MESS part!

  18. I am with Jemma & Lauren about wanting sleeves on these babies. It's almost fall, I want longer layers for the coming cold.

The neckline is busy in that pic, but I must say that I saw the majesty necklace on a SA the other day, and it was *beautiful*. It definitely is a statement necklace with big bright clear stones that sparkle and command attention. Lust lust lust - I want this necklace so bad but alas, it is a tad expensive.

  19. That necklace says "it's 5 o'clock somewhere...." LOL

  20. OT question, for ladies that ordered this year's cord pencil skirt, does it stretch as you wear it? I got my true size 8 and it's kind of loose, wondering if it will become too baggy as I wear it. TIA!

  21. FFM - I totally agree, the neckline is far too busy. I couldn't pull off the cami alone, never mind layering necklaces on top of it. Like others, I've moved past the camis to more seasonal tops. And I much prefer a beautiful silk scarf with a blouse, rather than layered necklaces for fall. Old school, I know, but that's me.

  22. Roxy: I got the pencil skirt in glazed pecan but haven't worn it yet. If it's anything like last year's cord pencil skirt (the only difference I can see is the closure and pockets) then it will not stretch out. I wore that skirt a lot last year and it never changed shape or stretched. Sorry to be so vague, but I hope this helps some.

  23. That does help, thanks AppGal! Nice taste -- I got the Glazed Pecan too. :)

  24. Sorry Jena, but I swoon for all kinds of past JCrew critters. I miss them greatly and buy much less from JCrew since they did away with them. Other places have them though I have found. Love me a critter! :) Land's End and LLBean have them. Anyone know of other stores? Thanks.

  25. I just bought the Jeweled Garland bracelet and matching earrings in butterscotch.

The earrings are HUGE. A little on the tacky side! Much too big for my style. I am so disapponted.!
