"Thanks!" to many of you, including Amy & Marietta, who shared the following email J.Crew sent this morning.
This email features the Timex Military Watch (Item 10884; $150.00). You can also purchase the Solid Watch Strap (Item 19474; $20.00) in a variety of colors including Dark Pumpkin and Bali Blue.
Last September, there was a post about Timex for J.Crew (refer here). I do like the style of the Timex watch– it is something I would totally wear. With that said, I do think the price tag seems a bit high (for a Timex watch).
The email also reminds us about Ask Jack video (refer here and here). The video is now available to view on J.Crew's website (click here to view).
What are your thoughts on the Timex for J.Crew watch? Do you own (or know someone who owns) the watch? Would you recommend the watch? :)

ReplyDeleteI bought it for my husband in July and he just loves it. I've "borrowed" it a couple of times...it's a great looking watch.
ReplyDeleteThe watch looks great but still pricey for a timex. But I am tempted, maybe with the next 20% off offer.
ReplyDeleteOK, I bought a watch just like this, same strap and all, with my paper route money when I was about 10 years old and it cost about ten bucks. I think I still have it in my childhood "treasure box".
ReplyDeleteI could never buy this for $150 without feeling like a huge sucker.
XOXO - if your original Timex is working and in fair condition, you could probably sell it to a Williamsburg hipster (who doesn't know what a paper route is) for $300.
ReplyDeleteThough the price is a bit exorbitant i snatched this watch up back in May. I own all the straps for it and it really is a great watch on account of all the accessorizing you can do with it when changing strap colors and so on. Girls loved it on me all summer, and something about the simple design ....the understatedness of it, ironicall is what makes it such a great item. Using my teacher discount also helped me pull the trigger. Orange and navy straps are my favs.

ReplyDeleteKevin, I just dug it out of the box and wound it up, it is ticking away. I would never sell it as it was the first item I had to save up to purchase, unlike the usual candy bars or Archie comics. Amazing how the ticking sound brings the memories flooding back. I put it back in the case and set it on my dresser. Maybe I'll wear it this weekend.
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, it was not necessary for my siblings and I to have paper routes. My parents insisted we learn the value of a dollar and how to earn and budget our own money at an early age. We're all quite successful so far, in no small part due to their early lessons.
Anyway, thanks for making me look. ;-)
i love this watch and thought it was perfect for my metal sensitive skin, but the cost is too high for such a simple, basic, timex for sure.
ReplyDeleteI actually found a vintage timex on ebay that looked almost exactly like JCrew Timex (barely noticable differences) but I didn't buy it. It sold for about $200.
ReplyDeleteI agree with previous comments, paying $150 for a Timex watch is ridiculous- but after seeing this watch styled in JCrew Liya Kebede and Lauren Hutton catalogs a while ago, I bought it :(
It's a perfect everyday watch, not that it justifies the price tag ;)
The watch that was sold on ebay is the model with the black strap and a date dial on it:

Love the watch but not a fan of the distressing.
ReplyDeleteI use to collect watches but ever since I've had kids I stopped wearing them... I actually like the look of this watch but maybe a bit too big for me? I may have to check it out IRL before...and wish they were around $100.
ReplyDeleteI finally decided to get this watch after looking at it on-line for nearly a year. While smaller than the usual fashion watches out there this one is definitely more retro and in style. I order the navy striped strap for it and I'm really enjoying a change from the usual trendy watches out there.
ReplyDeleteI love mine. I got it back in December with a coupon for 30% and free shipping. While $150 is high, I must say that the crystal on it does look different (and more expensive) than the one on my $30 Timex from Target.
ReplyDeleteThe different straps are a nice option, but I don't like how the cheap, shiny metal on them looks next to the distressed steel on the watch. Why can't they make the extra straps with distressed metal like they do on the "faded black" strap that comes with the watch?
OT - can anyone tell me what the difference is between stadium cloth and the double-cloth in JC coats? Thx
ReplyDeletexoxo
ReplyDeleteYou just gave me a major flashback to my own brothers and I doing our paper routes on our bikes! LOL! I totally did buy gum and Archie comics though hahaha! It was so important to learn how to manage money and time at a young age like that.
I stopped wearing a watch about 3 years ago and have never looked back, but I have always bought Timex watches (except for during my funfunfun Swatch phase).
I've liked the Timex, and like the add'l colors even more but the price is too high to me.
ReplyDeleteDiana - I've seen both and its kind of hard to describe, but the double-cloth is a flatter, denser weave than the stadium cloth. They're both very nice - I always wished I picked up a stadium cloth toggle coat from Holiday 2007!
