J.Crew Email: 20% off select sweaters. 2 days only. Online only. {again} ;)

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the following news & email J.Crew sent this morning.

The email announces J.Crew's latest promotion: they are offering "20% off select women's sweaters" which is available only "online". This offer expires 9/22/09. To shop Women's sweaters, click here.

Some sweaters on sale include:
  • Pleated Lombard Ruffle Cardigan
    (Item 18281; regular $118.00, now $94.40)
  • Merino Flutter Bow Cardigan
    (Item 17855; regular $98.00, now $78.40)
  • Cashmere Chérie Crewneck
    (Item 17858; regular $158.00, now $126.40)
  • Ruffled San Remo Cardigan
    (Item 18283; regular $98.00, now $78.40)
  • Boiled Wool Regalia Sweater-Jacket
    (Item 17655; regular $198.00, now $158.40)
  • Sequin Peekaboo Cardigan
    (Item 17829; regular $128.00, now $102.40)
  • Dream Knox Sweater-Jacket
    (Item 18172; regular $135.00, now $108.00)
If the email looks familiar, it's because J.Crew sent the same *exact* one on September 16th (refer to the "J.Crew Email: 20% off select sweaters. Online only." post from that day). That promotion didn't last very long (lasted two days as well, but the email only stated "for a limited time only").

I am thinking that J.Crew thought to bring this promotion back for 2 more days because (1) it was so successful last week; and/or (2) it ended quickly last week, before some customers could take advantage of it. :)

Will you be taking advantage of this offer? Are their any sweaters that you are currently lusting over? If so, please share! :)

  1. I was looking to order th Boiled wool regalia sweater-jacket but it's been sold out in my size for a few weeks, and now in all sizes. If anyone bought it can you review it? Thanks!!

  2. I took advantage of last week's offer so I will not be ordering this time...besides a lot of my size and colors are sold out. Lucky ladies who were able to get the "Boiled wool regalia sweater jacket" before it was sold out.... it's so cute!

I wish JC would do a 20% off all sweaters not just selected few items. Btw, a lot of the sweaters look really cute on the model, but when I try them on a lot of them don't work for me...

  4. Has anyone purchased the Cashmere Darling ruffled v-neck? I have been looking at this in the snow and am wondering if this color is tissue thin and if it looks as baggy at the waist IRL as it does on the model. I won't buy it until it goes on promotion, but I am debating on keeping it on my wishlist at all.

    Thanks!

  5. Also, OT, but if anyone has the Carlin coat, I would love a review.

    Thanks!

  6. Saw the black "Fifi" in store and it is the hot mess people were referring to. So are the chiffon bow front cardigans--omg what were they thinking with that one? The Trentino cardigan is soft and similar to the Cadet funnelneck in a longer length but it has huge pockets. The Donegal V-neck is super soft and nice neutral colors. Finally tried on Forever /Endless Summer cardigan, these are ready to go on sale already. Good basics but too much $ IMO ;)

  7. Chiffon + unfinished edge = great big mistake. I don't understand these, Bug Pin.

  8. I haven't seen many JCA sweater reviews (or comments on how pieces are holding up) at all yet this fall - is anybody taking a chance on the Dream (read: disaster) yarn or cashmere this year? I'm curious if the quality has changed at all, besides the 'more cashmere than ever' phrase that's tossed around the Dream pieces every year.

  9. I wish there were some sweaters I wanted, but I am having a hard time with the military and long cardi trends. I'm hoping for better sweaters in future rollouts.

  10. I look advantage of this last week when there was also the free ship w/$100 code. I didn't get last week's email but I did get this one.

  11. IRL - I did a really brief post about it on my blog here, but in a nutshell: it runs big and is quite itchy and scratchy.

I really want the peekaboo cardi, but can't justify spending $100+ AND shipping for it. Oh, the decisions!

  12. *it being the "Boiled Wool Regalia sweater." I'm sure some lucky people can pull it off, though!

  13. I don't have the boiled wool regalia sweater jacket but I do have a couple of pricey boiled wool sweater jackets from a few years back when boiled wool was really popular. I don't wear them. They are scratchy and they don't breathe well (incredibly hot), probably because of the tight weave, which gives them the jacket-like structure. Think mohair, in a really tight knit. I keep them in my closet at work as in-case-of-emergency jackets. You know, in case I have a tear or stain on my suit jacket during the day.

When I saw the boiled wool on J.Crew I had a little twitch...

  14. OT-

Oprah Magazine sent out an email this morning with a link to a slide show segment entitled: "8 Affordable, Stylish Outfits From Unexpected Places". The slide show includes Ann Taylor, Talbots, etc. and their unexpected style upgrades everyone has been talking about.

Here is the slide of J. Crew show casing their accessories:

    http://www.oprah.com/slideshow/omagazine/200910-omag-classic-fashion-brands/7

    The text reads....

    J.CREW ACCESSORIES
    Then: Pretty, casual

    Now: Posh instant heirlooms

No preppy critter motifs in J.Crew's lavish new fall accessories catalog: "A canvas tote is great, but no girl swoons over it—we want leather bags, satin shoes, sparkly jewelry," says creative director Jenna Lyons. Sang A likes the "vintage feeling" of these necklaces, combining glass stones and bows in an unusual smoky palette ($98 and $125). Top, J.Crew, $90.

  15. I bought the Anton Sweater in black in my usual size Medium and had to size up due to the snug-fitting arms. The size L felt the same as the M and I decided it would work anyway over camis and smooth

I love the unique lines & details of this sweater. It seemed a little more fitted & hip than the Dream shawl cardi yet I think it's a classic for years to come as well. I haven't worn it yet (too warm) but will provide a "wear review" when I do!

  16. amy kelinda--did you already return the sweater? if not, would you consider selling it to me?

  17. meredith - I'm so sorry, I returned the sweater just yesterday! :( You can try calling the Houston Galleria store for it, though, since it should still be there. I had it in a size Small.

  18. I'm thinking about purchasing a few sweaters; I did not get the first email, but I did get this one...interesting....

  19. I missed out on this last week because there really wasn't anything that I was interested in until the Lombard cardigan in Papaya popped back in my size on Friday. Thanks to this post, I was able to get a credit. I know there have been mixed reviews, but I love this sweater. For anyone who is interested, I received the Patent Campo in coconut shell and it's fabulous. However, the handles were different colors, so I need to exchange it. I posted pics on my blog.

  20. I was going to pull the trigger on the plum raisin cable crew, but realized that shipping would push the total back up past $75. I couldn't do it. But I also can't get it at my B&M because they carry so few styles. To be honest, the "we can order it for you" gets a little old. How about "we realize we're a J Crew store, so we'll actually carry the items we're trying to sell!"

In the meantime, I got an e-mail from Boden offering 20 percent off their knits, with an additional 10 percent off and FREE shipping and returns!

    J. Crew, you're wearing me out!

  21. Well, I just received my cashmere v-neck I ordered last week during the 20% off promo. Tried it on and it's so huge in the stomach/back area that I could fit a preggers belly in there! Ugh...so disappointing. The cashmere seemed really nice, but felt like I was wearing a sack. It's an XS so I can't size down either...boo!

  22. silver_lining, I bought both the Dream turtleneck (in dusty blossom--a gorgeous color, imo) and V-neck (in grey heather), as well as the Dream shawl wrap, and they are all super soft. The V-neck and turtleneck are thinner and lighter than the comparable cashmere sweaters, and they do run bigger than usual. The medium in the V-neck is just hanging off me. I'll let you know how they all last the season once I've worn them more.

  23. I've been wishing for the cashmere shawl popover in sweet guava, and the ethereal merino ruffle v-neck in warm blush (sold out in my size). And neither is on sale!

    ReplyDelete
  24. plein jane: I got the same Boden email--now there's a store with GREAT customer service and incentives--but I didn't see anything about the additional 10% off after the 20%. Where did you see that offer? I'm dying to pick up a few V-neck cardigans from them! TIA!

  26. I also purchased the cashmere V-neck, and I also found it to be huge in the stomach area. I haven't worn it yet since it is still too warm, the quality is comparable to the one I have from last years. If you size down the arms are tight, since the arms are just right on the Med.

I find it weird that JC is offering another sale so close to last weeks, I guess they did not move enough inventory.

  27. I don't think jcrew has a choice-sales #'s are probably sucking because they keep alienating their good buyers with roadblocks and obstacles and subpar items. So, as much as they don't want to appear to "discount" they are. End of the quarter is in 9 days. So they better haul ass and sell as much as they can.

Oh, and get rid of Final Sale already, I won't buy if I can't be sure it will fit.

  28. I noticed that not all of the same sweaters from the first promo last week are incluced in this round.... like the maya and ocelot.

  29. Boden 11% plus 20% for knitwear - go to Ebates and enter Boden. You will also get an extra 10% back. Love Ebates!!

  30. I think we should have a pool, each contribute $1-2, and buy one dream sweater and one cashmere sweater. The tester can wear each a dozen times, and then let us know how the quality is this year :-)

Until I hear numerous positive reviews, I won't be buying either again. Which is too bad, because I have a navy dream popover from fall 2007 that I just love, except it's pilled (and de-pilled) to the point now it looks like navy threads. Boo.

  31. La Belle: Jcrew will tell you to buy their special sweater wash...and quit blaming their poor quality of items...lol

  32. I took advantage of the offer last week. I actually did a little self price-adjustment on items I'd bought recently. I got 2 jackies and the dream cable v-neck in plum raisin. I am really pleased with the dream v-neck so far. It's really soft, not itchy, fits well, and is such a GORGEOUS color. I am in love with plum raisin this season. Jackies never disappoint, although I am switching out colors for one of them...cypress for deep rose. The cypress is pretty but just doesn't work with my skin tone.

Pretty Boy: seriously, why do they leave the guys out in so many promos? You guys deserve it too!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I got a few Jackies - hard to find them on sale in the right size/color, so I used this promo with the free shipping - a little discount helps w/ the free shiping.

  35. i cant believe the highland cable cardigan sold out so quickly. especially @258 bucks

  36. What's crazier is that if you zoom in on her hand (highland cardi), you can see she has this huge scar on her hand. Why won't they photoshop/correct such a big blemish?

  37. Quick reviews:

Cambridge Cable Crew- Seems softer and perhaps a bit thicker than last year's version. I've worn it 2x and it is pilling a bit at the arms (like last year's version, which pilled MASSIVELY--I have several dream sweaters from last year that look sloppy now b.c of pilling). TTS (seemed to run a *bit* bigger than last year's).

Cashmere Shawl Popover- Gorgeous sweater! Runs a tad big, but not so much that I'd size down (I'm busty, though). The cashmere seems a bit thicker and softer than last year (but again, I may be imagining this..). I got the heather aqua and it didn't really work with my skintone-- much more heathered IRL than in the pics--I should be receiving the dark poppy tomorrow.

  38. I love the Forever Cardigan and was happy to see that it is included in the sweater sale. I went to J. Crew today and tried it on...glad I did before ordering, it's waaay too long for this gal at 5'3". The description says "extra long" and they mean it!

  39. i just did a post last night about what sweaters/blouses/jackets I was lusting over at JCrew... it was like they heard my thoughts or saw my drools..... I picked up the cashmere ruffled henley and the jackie cardigan :)

  40. Love love love the Lombard!! not sure how I managed to score it in Sweet Guava but it gorgeous! I ordered it last week with the 20% off and although still a steep price tag it is worth it. Also the Sweet Guava does not have the brown fray on the ruffle (I had the Grey Lombard and returned in hopes of getting the Guava) I have ordered and returned the Maya, the Regalia and the Carolyn corsage sweater but this one is a keeper.

IRL- I ordered the Regalia and liked it, but for the $198 I figured I should be buying a jacket for work. It is thick, maybe too thick for a lot of climates, body types and workplaces, but would be fab out in the elements. I also realized how similar it was to the Miranda jacket I have from last year.

  41. I forgot to add the Mohair cardigan to my list of sweaters that I have ordered and returned:
    *Huge
*Looks like it will not withstand much wear- absolutely could not layer 3 bracelets/necklacs with it as they would all snag this thin sweater
    *$88? Should be $59ish

  42. About the two emails touting the same offer, I am familiar with marketing emails and sometimes a company's whole email list is segmented, divided by certain factors (like last online purchase date) and the exact same email (with small tweaks) will be sent to the different segments, but often double-hitting emails exist on both send lists. That way the second email is considered a "reminder" to the earlier recipients, and can seem an "urgent action" email for the later recipients.

Well, I've worn my knox sweater jacket over and over and over to work, play, out and even vacation. And there are huge pills down the front and underside of both arms. Time to break out the sweater stone. But I don't mind it at all. I haven't tried any other of Jcrew sweaters, though. I like the The collegiate cardigan but can see fuzziness around the neckline in the pictures. The Trentino cabin cardigan looks cozy, but perhaps too baggy. Highland cable cardigan? Too pricey!

  43. Plein Jane - I'm with you. I was going to order a few sweaters, but the shipping just pushed the price back up so it didn't seem like such a deal.

I wish J.Crew would have a standard $5 flat fee shipping. I'd order so much more online.

  44. My boiled wool jackets from Land's End are super soft and comfy.

  45. Maybe you all know something I don't but I bought the Sequin Peekaboo cardigan last week and just adore it. I think it is subtle and understated but elegant at the same time. Are there no fans out there?
