J.Crew Email: Jenna's picks {for October!}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who let us know about J.Crew's most recent email, which showcases all of Jenna Lyons' picks for the latest catalog.

Click here to view all the items selected, including the following:
Jenna's Picks: Right now our creative director is obsessed with unexpected pairings– sweet with sleek, soft neutrals with black and a shot of red.
  1. Ankle stretch toothpick jean in twilight wash (Item 16719; $125.00)
  2. Silk pleated posy top (Item 18679; $89.50)
  3. Leather gloves (Item 18178; $49.50)

  14. Rebekah perforated-leather platform Mary Janes

This time around, I am not a big fan of the items Jenna selected. Is it just me or does the tip of Kay Suede Heels remind anyone else of a sneaker? And I mentioned this before, but what about the Belstaff Bomber Jacket for $1,195.00 (did I read that price tag right)? Not sure what to make of it as it doesn't seem to belong in the Women's section.

What are your thoughts on the items selected? Do you like the color palette? Which items would have made your top picks of new arrivals that you are loving this month?

  1. Off topic--Has anyone tried on the Charlie ruffled suede heels? Just noticed they have been put on sale.

  2. OT: Does anyone know the policy for price adjustments? A top I ordered just went on sale.

  3. shopalot

I think it is 7 days from the day it shipped (if you bought it online) IIRC

  4. The suede heel does have a sneaker-ish look to it with the white bottom. I can see where Jenna's going with her picks (rocker girl with a feminine touch), but I'm not feeling it too much either. That's not to say that there aren't things I wouldn't mind owning in her selections, though!

  5. is anyone else having email problems from jcrew? in the past couple of months, i only get some of their emails. weird.

i personally like the paisely shirt. and while i like the bomber jacket, i could never pull it off and, more importantly, would never spend that much money on it.

i agree that the shoes look a little weird.

in other posts, folks said the october rollout would be bigger -- any idea of when that will happen?

  6. I like the paisley silk shirt, but I saw it at my B&M and it's very thin--I thought there'd be more cotton in it for warmth. But I agree about the heels looking silly. I do like the Donegal shawl cardigan, although personally I don't need another neutral colored sweater. And the gloves are cute. But I wasn't really wowed by her picks this time around.

I wish they'd come out with something more interesting to replace some of the camis. I need pretty, unique long-sleeve tops to wear under the cardigans and V-necks, but have been disappointed on that front this season.

  7. also, i really like the mary janes, but can't handle heels that tall....

  8. I like the bomber jacket, but don't know about the cropped look on me. At that price it doesn't really matter whether I like it or not, though.

  9. Bland, bland and more bland. I do like a few of the outfits in the catalog that have some more saturated colors in them, but I think this selection is very drab.

I like the girly with a few tomboy touches look, but I can do with a bomber jacket that costs less than my mortgage payment and with some crisper, richer colors.

  10. pretty blah. I do like the paisley shirt, but in my experience, I always have to resew buttons on the perfect button downs soon after purchasing. They're also thin. I wait for them to go on sale.

  11. I have been really inpressed with the perfect paisley shirt I purchased a couple of months ago as well as my Francis shirts. This one looked and felt a bit cheap to me. Perhaps it was just because of the silk, but it felt very thin and the seams were a little puckered.

  12. Thanks Amy. Looks like I am a few days past seven, so no adjustment for me.

  13. OT - sale section has some nice updates.... scored the Geo Frances cami, tiny buds perfect shirt, and the Pearl garden bracelet.

  14. OT: can anyone comment on the color difference between mars and dark rust. they look almost too similar on the computer screen.

  15. I think the saturated colors are in the next rollout for the Holidays. J Crew has updated the colors on the Cashmere V-neck Cardigan item 18286 they are more saturated and ten times better than what they were offering during most of 09.

I like the Donegal cardigan however I cannot wear wool, just merino and cashmere.

  16. The belts are cute. I actually have a couple pair of capri sandals that I purchased from Ann Taylor Loft several months ago that have the same stud detail on them.

  17. I ordered the paisley shirt, just waiting for it to arrive. I really love paisley prints and this one is no exception. I have the deep pink one from the summer rollout and I love it. The lighter weight was great for summer and is perfect under suit jackets and sweaters now, especially if you work in a warm office. I hope this one is just as light, I have plenty of other heavier cotton blouses.

I have never resewn buttons on my J.Crew blouses and I have about 30 I have collected over the past few years.

  18. I like the bomber jacket too, but that price is ridiculous.

  19. I like the silk flowered top. Thinking of buying it, it would look great with a blazer for work...

  20. Completely OT, but does anyone have the "cotton-modal ruffled U neck dress"? (that is what is on my receipt, I think it was store-only? I couldn't find it online when I bought it in Aug) I have the nude-ish color and I love it but can't figure out what to do with it for fall. It's nice and warm today so I have it on with tall Brewsters, but no idea what to wear over it - or under maybe? Any ideas?

  21. stacy,

dark rust is more brown. mars is more red.

copper and cinnamon stick/spice are more orange.

  23. Really liking the paisley shirt. Very distinct looking, but not sure if it would look too old, though.

  24. I tried on the silk pleated posy top in barely peach and shadow - the collar is so massive, the "rose" is like another mini-breast from a side view~! it's the lovely no-win situation of too much going on up there whether you are a size A or DD.

It also has no zipper, so forget being fitted.

The leather jacket is cute but I have some that look like that for under $100, no thanks!

love the color palette, but not the actual items alas.

  25. mommydearest:

I tried that on in store - I loved it and haven't gone back to get it. I doubt it's still there. Was it ever online?

    Check out Gigi's post here.

  26. The color palette is too bland for me and my skin tone. :) I do LOVE the toothpick jeans. I own these and am planning to buy the black rinse as well. I have the purple and gold paisley shirt, which is just like the new one except for the coloring and I really like it. The bomber jacket looks nice, but as others have mentioned, it's WAY out of my price range.

  27. Hi all,

    This is completely OT...

However, if any of my fab JCAs are interested, I saw a Library print dress on ebay today. It's listed as; "RARE J.Crew Library-Print Dress".

I seem to remember a few folks mentioning it on previous posts.

  28. Love the picks. Totally my style - rocker boyfriend/tomboy chic.

  29. I may check out the gloves once the temperature dips. I have found J.Crew's winter accessories to be very good quality and they make excellent stylish gifts. Yes, I am thinking about Christmas shopping already - yikes!

Another vote here for the paisley shirt. Among other things I plan to wear mine with some of my J.crew pencil skirts, just not the pearl gray - too boring.

Would love a review and some IRL photos of the rugged Lexi tote if anyone who has it wants to share. I'd like to know if it really is rugged and will stand up to years of use. And how is the port color IRL?

The thornbush necklace is too um, let's say "unusual" for me but I did order the crystal thornbush drop earrings #24003 for my neice. Very pretty, classic style. Hope she likes them.

  30. I love all the shoes and that essie nail polish!

  31. Chelsea, thank you for the rec. Loved it on you, Gigi, and didn't think to wear it as a tunic. What color (besides black) do you think might go?

I don't think it was online - at least I never saw it there. Kicking myself for not buying a black one last week sitting in the sale section.
