J.Crew Seen In Lucky Magazine

A big "thanks!" to Soon to be PhD who not only let us know about several J.Crew items being spotted in the latest issue of Lucky Magazine, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the images to see them larger.)

In the image above, the Solid Twist-Front Bandeau Top (Item 10210; Regular $44.00) is shown. I am not really sure of the bikini bottom though. In the image below, Lucky showcases the Café Capri (Item 10492; was $79.50, select colors $59.99) and the Catalina Tumbled-Leather Driving Mocs (Item 15938; $140.00) from J.Crew.

I am personally a big fan of using bright colors for shoes, handbags, and sometimes for tops too. However, I actively avoid wearing bright colors when it comes to pants. With my pear shape, I tend to avoid anything that would highlight my assets. ;)

What are your thoughts on the various J.Crew items? Do you like (or dislike) the vibrant colors for the Capri pants and driving mocs? Do you favor wearing bright colors? :)

  2. Ha - just leafed through this tonight and saw them! :) I <3 the bright colors; it's fun to see them work on other people. The one editor who mentioned she had about 40 JCrew bikinis made me LOL.

  3. I'm a bit disappointed with the new "boyfriend tees" and the rollout of the deconstructed look. To me, the tees just look baggy and unflattering -- not what I expected from JC. Re the bright colors? Not for me. I prefer neutrals, both light and dark for basic clothing, and then to add dashes of color via accessories. I'm also surprised that JC hasn't come out with many heeled sandals. Overall, it just seems like they're really scaling down. A bright spot, however: some of the jewelry pieces are coming down to earth, and at reasonable prices!

  4. Thanks Soon to be PhD & Alexis for posting! :)

In the second photo, the model wearing JCrew mocs is also wearing the JCrew metallic top.

The colored/bright shorts yes, the longer pants - pass. I want to wear those bright orange/red longer pants sold by JCrew but just never 'feel' quite right in them.

I favor wearing the bright colors on top. I have to say I love navy, white, and these neutral tones in tans and khakis that are out this year (I know boring). I also love JCrew's colors and have plenty of them too. I love classic pieces...last years spring release sucked me in because of the line "When Navy Met White".

  5. Alexis,
I agree on not wearing bright pants! I am not pear shaped but brights are much more flattering for me to wear as tops highlighting my face and not my lower half! I am tall and thin but still don't want people looking at my slight hips or bum!

    Magnolia,
The oversized look is coming back into style...over sized tees, long cardigans, etc. Really big in Europe right now where I live.

  6. I am not sure about the bright pants-would love to try a pair if they can get the fit and cut right!

My friend has a pairof their yellow pants- and paired with complementary netutrals and heels she looked fab.

  7. Depends on the pants. I love the bistro pants in cerise!

  8. Thank you for posting the article. It's nice to see styling tips for J.Crew clothes. I am right there with the editor who picked the swimsuit. I have at least 40 bikinis and I'd say almost half are J.Crew. Love the fit and the quality. Got some great deals on FS too.

I have a pair of hipslung cherry red cords that I bought from J.Crew a few years ago. I bring them out in autumn and wear them a few times until Christmas, then put them away again. They aren't the most versatile but they have lasted well with such gentle use. It is fun to have a bright pop of color once in a while.

The first thing I reach for on the first hot day of summer - madras mini skirt and perfect fit tank.

  9. It was fun to see all the J Crew styling in Lucky this month. I was like, oooh, there's my molten metallic shirt! I don't usually do bright pants, but I did get a pair of green chinos from ON this month to wear with my plain white, gray & navy tees - it's definitely color, but more saturated/muted than just bright (although I am envisioning Mr Green Jeans jokes from hubby). I do love seeing the bright pants on others because they are so fun.

Also - I got a JC email this morning that the HELLOSUN free shipping is being extended by a day to 5/14. I wonder if the same is true for SUNSHINE?

  10. thanks for sharing! :)

I like wearing brighter colored pants and skirts with more neutral tops. in fact, right now i'm wearing some chinos in the "bright alpine" color from a few seasons back with a white top...so simple!

  11. I definitely like wearing bright colors, but all the Cerise items are a pass for me. I just don't wear red in general, and this particular color is a little too fluorescent for my taste.

  12. Those of you who visit me at my blog know I love my bistro pants in cerise...but yes, definitely not for the faint of heart...I get a lot of comments when I wear them (always positive) but if you want to be a wallflower these are not the pants to do them in...

I love those short capris in that color...but I have enough capris to last me a lifetime. I am a teacher and it seems capris are the go-to pants for us. My friend said that the capri pants business would be out of business if it weren't for all of the teachers who wear them as a uniform!

The molten-metallic shirt is just beautiful on HeidiG...if any of you all have her coloring...you must go and get this top!!!

  13. I am a teacher and those I work with do not wear bright pants. One gal did one time and other coworkers commented: "Pants Bright enough!" Needless to say, not a thing to wear teaching where I live!

  14. Genny: Definitely a school culture thing...at this school you should see the outfits...bright colors...Sunday best suits...little sandals...flip-flops...and yes, the occasional bright pair of pants. The only thing we all adhere to? No jeans except on Friday. Kind of funny that we all follow that rule but all the other "conventional" dressing rules are sort of thrown out the window. ;)

I am one of the more brightly dressed, but I tend to wear more conservative cuts to make up for it!

  15. I was so happy to see these pieces styled in Lucky! I have the same, if not similar, pieces; so, that's great! I was starting to worry that I couldn't wear the molten metallic shirt with anything but white jeans! :p

    Thanks, Alexis!

  16. Bright pants make me think of the Southern SAHMs that dropped off my classmates at school in their minivans.

I'll do bright tops, dresses, shoes & bags, but not bright pants.

  17. I love the bright colors! I have the cafe capris in both the cerise (bright orange) and lemon twist (bright yellow).. and I'm wearing the lemon twist today! I think the brights are pretty flattering in the capris... I like how the color gets broken up by the little show of skin at the ankles.

  18. Dina,
Interesting on the school thing...we all dress up and are required to look professional according to our principal. We are not allowed to wear jeans EVER to school. This is the third school I have worked at in IL and all have been the same....

    Sophie,
You crack me up. I can just picture what you are saying...:) LOL

  19. I tend to shy away from the bright pants & skirts. I am 5'2 and I think that the bright pants only accentuate the fact that I am short. I feel like it divides me in half instead of giving me an elongated look but this is just my own personal opinion. I love bright shoes!

  20. I have a pair of hot pink J.Crew pants that I wear frequently in summer. They are totally awesome and I get tons of looks and compliments on them every time. They are a few years old, one of the first city fit pairs I bought. Fit me like a glove and look great with strappy sandals and a pretty top. I don't think I could do red and definitely not yellow (anything), but hot pink is the bomb for me.

  21. I am a big fan of JC's bright colors. I have dark brown hair and fair skin, so the brights seem to work well for me. I'll wear a Lt. Citron cardi, for example, and pair it with neutrals like grey or light brown, etc. I like a pop of bright color, but I would never go for a head-to-toe palette of brights. Love JC's Bright Rhubarb! I have only two pairs of bright pants (chinos in bright red and a bright coral), and I must admit that I do not wear them very often. I guess I prefer bright tops, belts, and shoes to bright pants and skirts.

  22. Dina - you're so sweet! thanks for making me smile!!

  23. I love the cafe capris and I wear colored pants - I have the gold summerweight pants from 2 years ago, the alpine green chinos from last year, the fuschia capris from the outlets, the bright coral saturday pants, and the faded red chinos (pepper, maybe?) and the orange cafe capris from last year. My students seem to enjoy them - I love wearing color. I do always wear a neutral top, though - can't wear bright color head to toe. :)

  24. Funny you should ask- I have orange capris from another year....I like orange and because it was a nice day, I wore them to work (with a sort of oatmeal colored shirt and jacket to tone them down) AND then I had to go to a meeting where everyone else was wearing gray and navy. Not sure if I looked stupid or daring, but I am old so it will not matter in the long term.

  25. I have a pair of red cafe capris from last year, but I only wear them on my skinny & confident days...haven't exactly had any of them yet this spring, but I hope to squeeze into them before summer ends!

  26. I love the J.Crew bikinis. We have a hot tub and pool so I'm in a bikini a couple times a week, year round. I don't wear metallics, except for shoes so the shirt is out for me. I don't wear red pants or capris but I have a red mini that is really cute. And tons of bright shorts that I love. The bright shoes are a bit much for my style, but I do have driving mocs in more neutral shades. Much prefer something with a heel if I'm going out of the house though.

I totally love the rip-stop capris, shorts and minis that were available the past couple years. Anyone else get these? I bought multiples of them each year and wear them a lot, so comfortable and flattering. Maybe they will bring another version back this summer.

  27. The only thing JCrew I like in the article is the bikini. The blazers are nice and JCrew has some in the same vein.

I do like a couple things listed that don't have photos: denim cutoffs - ya baby! Cliche but fun if not too tight, worn with classy top, belt and sandals, just tooling around.

And the Lancome flash bronzer. My skin-saving tan for years now. Spray it on a 1/2 hour before bed and shower fresh and bronzed in the morning.

  28. I love that bikini top, but I'm always wary of strapless bikinis. I'm not very well-endowed up north, so those little suckers tend to sneak down as I frolic in the waves. :(

I agree with you about brightly colored pants, Alexis. I love bright shoes, and I love the idea of bright pants, but I just can't pull it off because like you, I'm pear-shaped. But Slastena did inspire me to purchase white pants, which I never thought would work and they're wonderful! ^^ I'll need more convincing for pinks and such, though. :)

  29. Thanks everyone for sharing your views on bright colors- especially when it comes to pants. :)

Drewablank: I agree with you that its great to see how others style certain pieces, like the molten metallic shirt. I usually just end up pairing items with dark trouser jeans or black pants- so its nice to get different viewpoints. ;)

Toast: Slastena makes everything she wears look good on her! I had given up on the lollipop grey flats until I saw her wear them, and then I went out and bought (& love) them! :)

  30. I decided to add bright colors to my wardrobe last Summer. I love the bistro pants in cerise and daffodil cuffed chinos. I can't forget the pretty merino wool tnecks and cardis that are sure to brighten a dreary day or mood. I wear brights with muted colors most of the time. Thanks to JCrew for making it easy!

  31. I don't know if it was seeing the Lucky article here, but I woke up this morning really wanting driving mocs. I love the citron colour, that may be the one I order. But first I must wait for a new free shipping code since HELLOSUN is over :(
