Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to shop on "black Friday", take advantage of the "secret sales" or to see some new holiday arrivals in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic! Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. (Maybe there are still some stores that are carrying 50% off as well!) Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

P.S.S. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day! :)

  1. I'll be heading to a B&M in The Woodlands, TX very soon and will report back. Have fun shopping everyone!

  2. I unfortunatly don't live near a B&M store, but i'm hoping they have Cyber Monday sales!!

  3. Has anyone seen the Primrose Garden bracelet in person? It looks big in the catalogue but I was wondering how it looks in person? Is is nice - any thoughts? Thank you!

  4. For any Washingtonians out there-

the three main stores in the area (Chevy Chase, Georgetown, Pentagon City) seem to vary greatly in their in-store merchandise. I'm a fan of the Georgetown M Street location, and just bought the Ecole herringbone blazer when I visited two days ago. The sale section, which had the same prices as online, was an additional 30% off!

Does anyone know about the red phones, by the way? They didn't have my size for the blazer, so I was able to call and speak with a J.Crew rep and get the price I would paid to buy there (only paid extra for shipping).

Happy holidays and Black Friday shopping!

  5. Thank you, Alex! I am your fellow Washingtonian, so great to know what's going on in different stores. I only recently started going to Georgetown store and really liked it. With tax free week coming up, might be worthwhile to check it again.

  6. No way! After ordering x 4 online to take advantage of the 30% off special I will have to stay away from the store until my orders start arriving and I will have to return something.

BTW, has anyone seen the Maggie jacket in person? I ordered one in black and camel and can't decided on which one to keep...

    ReplyDelete
  7. Phoenix area stores still just 30% off sale items, making it final sale. More worth it to order from online, as pricing EXACTLY the same as online and at least online is not final sale!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Did anyone go to the outlets?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Here in boston, i just went to the copley square Jcrew and the Cambridgeside Galleria Jcrew and only 30% off.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I went to the outlets. While most of the stores were not very crowded, J. Crew was out of control. People were pushing, shoving, and the line was wrapped around the store. Honestly, there were only a few good deals. The rest I could do better on at the sale in regular stores or at other outlet sales. If you knew what to look for it was great, but a lot of people were just buying everything. My boyfriend did well in the men's section, though. He got pants and dress shirts for about 10 bucks each.

  11. Great news about the DC area stores! Thanks and congratulations on getting your size in the blazer, Alex. :)

And thanks, Slastena, for the info on the tax-free week for DC! :)

  12. OT: Was there ever a silver color offered for the lulu metallic peep-toes or is that my wishful thinking? It's between those and the Becca flats for a holiday present to myself. Can anyone comment on either, if you own them? Thanks...!

  13. Help!! Is it possible to use the Turkey code and the free shipping YRF-49? Or do I have to pay shipping (arm and a leg - w/the Turkey code). It also says no other promos (no phone orders) - and I am a student. Does anyone have any suggestions. (The items are not at the B&M stores.) Thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. anon@11:13: You can only use one code. They used to allow stacking, but they don't anymore, not even with the student discount. Several of us have tried and been rebuffed. The only thing you can really do to avoid shipping is place a red phone order, but then they will only waive shipping if your item is full price (they MIGHT waive it if one item is full price and others sale - we have had mixed results with that). The TURKEY code is only valid online though, so you won't be able to use that in stores.

  16. Maciolek Family: I have the Maggie in Camel and it has been a wonderful addition to my wardrobe because it is such a versatile neutral. Why don't you check out Polyvore and look at the outfits other Aficionadas have put together with both colors of the Maggie. This should give you an idea of how one color or the other fits into your wardrobe. Good luck, and enjoy...it is a beautiful jacket no matter what color you choose. :)

  17. I was in the Towson, MD store this morning around 7:15. They had 30% off sale items, but there wasn't a whole lot of appealing things. I ended up buying some of the new arrivals- beautiful candy colored cardigans- short sleeved. Guessing I'll be waiting for spring to wear them! They had some 3/4 sleeved cardigans in candy colors as well. I totally coveted them, until I saw they were 3/4 sleeves-blech. Why, J Crew, oh why? :-) Anyhow, all the regular priced sweaters were an extra 20% off- so I got the new arrival sweaters for a good price. The SA's there are nice, most of the time. HTH.

    ReplyDelete
  18. What was the outlet promotion today? I went on Wed and it was 40% off most items. Picked up some basics: LS tees, 2 button ups, a pair of bootcut cords, and a bella jacket. I was not overly impressed--It seems as if they used to have a better selection. The sweaters also seemed of lower quality.

I forgot to use my student discount, though! Do you think if I call, they will give me a price adjustment?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I received an "Our way of saying thanks" card in the mail today from J Crew. It Says:

To our most loyal and favorite customer:

We've all read the news, and I think it's safe to say, we've seen better times. So we understand that, now more than ever, where you shop is an important decision...and we thank you for your loyalty.....we want you to fell good about everything you buy from us. Here's a special offer just for you, and only you - our very best customers. Enjoy 25% off anything you buy at any of J Crew retails stores from now until December 15, 2008. Just a little holiday cheer, from us to you.

Attached is a red card that says 25% off

Wow. Anyone else get these? I'm unclear as to whether it's a one time usage and you give the card up, and you can use it continually until Dec 15. I think it's the latter, but have a call into my PS girl. I'll let you know.

  20. Oh, also, it signed
    Happy Holidays

Millard Drexler - but with Mickey hand signed (and scanned of course) above the Millard. Very nice.

  21. jbird, I like the 3/4 sleeve cardigans. I know it is not a good thing for those who live in colder climates, but I live in the desert of Arizona, where it is still in the high 70s/low 80s this time of year. The 3/4 sleeve is perfect for this climate and for the office I work in. I have very few long sleeved sweaters, cardigans, or tees because they feel too hot and confining.

Believe me, though, at time I wish I lived where there are actual seasons.

  22. Just curious if anyone knows which british khaki chinos are shown on the models online... are they the favorite fit or premium? I am kinda suspecting they're mens... TIA.

  23. I was in Boston's Copley this morning where they had lots of new markdowns with 30% off sale. The store was empty! I suspect everyone is traveling for the holiday as the store was much busier last week.

I bought a few slim stretch shirts and saw lots of the double serge pencil skirts on sale. Also lots of sweaters on sale too.

It was a pleasure and there was lots of inventory!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jacquelyn,

I agree with you about the 3/4 sleeve cardigans. I live in the cold Northeast, however I often find that I get warm indoors when wearing sweaters. The 3/4 length sleeve coverage is just enough for me!! I really like the tartines, and the price now is great!

  25. Last week I was at my local J.Crew (Garden State) and I was trying on the puffer coats, but they only had black, white, and blue. I asked the salesperson what other colors they came in and she brought me the catalog and said I could order from the red phone and get the store promotion price ($128) with free shipping to my house. I was surprised because I've read that they only give free shipping for full price, so I was surprised. I didn't even ask, she just offered. I guess because sales are hurting, they're willing to? It was strange.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i went to copley, cambridgeside, and northshore, all 30% off, mostly similar to the deals that you would get online except that you can get an additional 15% with the student discount...outerwear seems to be cheaper in the store also with 40% off full price + student discount.

from my memory i saw bow-neck and lili cardigans, maisie blouse, geometric tweed minis (these four i remember specfically since i got them), a lot of i think jackie cardigans or the ones with crystal buttons in various colors, some sketchbook rose, herringbone, donegal, taffeta skirts, blazers...copley's shoe sale was a mess..mostly 8.5 and 9s i think. calling the store if they have certain items might be your best bet if you're looking for something specific.

all in all, not GREAT deals like when it was 50% off but there was a wide variety of stuff and you can stack discounts and not worry about shipping costs.

hmm oh i also made it out to the jcrew outlet in wrentham and didn't pick up ONE thing since it seemed like the regular store promotions and sales were better.

  27. I was able to get free shipping, extra % off and my educator's discount on 2 orders placed last week online....

  28. I have only one B&M in my city which doesn't have what I'm looking for. If you see any of the following items at your store, can you put them on hold and email me?

Leopard Annette blouse, size 0 or 2
    Straight denim skirt, size 0
    Double strand (yellow/green) necklace

    Thanks! Mrsnonia@aol.com

  29. Anonymous at 12:59,

Will you please share with us how you were able to get all of those discounts?

I am a silver card holder and NEVER am able to when I ask to combine discounts, eventhough I do ask politely every time I order. I figure it doesn't hurt to ask. Never works, though.

  30. I just got back from the outlets at Clinton Crossing and Westbrook, CT, and I was able to snatch some great deals. I got the heather wheat cashmere femme sweater for 50 dollars, a Marcella blouse in that greenish color for 14 dollars (too big, going back), a yellow merino v-neck for 17.50, and a pair of the fav fit cords from last season in deep eggplant for 21 dollars (all these are the retail versions!), and the outlet version of the frances blouse in berry color for 24 dollars. There were some cashmere cardigans on clearance for 35 dollars in unappealing colors, and a bunch of cords on the clearance rack as well. Oh and I also saw a couple dream tie cradigans for 60 + 30% off, and the crystal-button merino cardigans (the really long oness) for 60 + 30% off as well. Aaaaand some of the long dream cardigans in black and white for 80 + 30% off, and more of the merino V-necks in yellow and green for 35 + 30% off. They also had some outlet elizabeth halters and fionas and ecoles, but I didn't pay too much attention to the prices b/c they were quite steep.

  37. Went to Wrentham Outlets at midnight. The worst part was getting off the highway and finding a parking space! (That took us 3 hours). There was a line to get into J.Crew at 2:30AM. It was short and moved fast though. Most items in the store had an additional 30-50% off. Long sleeve crew and v-neck tissue tees ended up costing $11.70 each, tissue turtlenecks were around $14 I think, and perfect fit crewneck longsleeve tees were $11.70-ish also. I got a pair of matchstick jeans for $35 (40% off of $60), and a black tuxedo tee. There was a cute navy blue toggle coat. They also had regular-store herringbone ecoles! $130 each plus 50% off, so $65. There were also PJs, bootcut cords, lots of chinos, and those wool pants. Plenty of jackie cardis and other kinds of plain-ish sweaters.. There was another blazer really similar to the herringbone ecole, I forget the name now but it had some ruffles. I also saw some cardigans with flowers going down the front.

  38. I didn't do anything special; all I did was email and ask for them to be applied to my order or I asked on the phone and the lady said yes. Just lucky I guess. I was actually surprised. Yes, I have been turned down before but I just keep asking. The worst they can say is no and I get a few yes.

You may also try 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica - I have not been there today, but they usually have a much bigger and better selection in their sale racks

I have a question for anyone who owns the Owen hobo. Do you have a hard time getting things in and out of it? I have really been struggling with the handle obstructing my getting quickly into the bag. I hope this makes sense, but wondered if it was just me. The Buttercup color is really pretty but does run more along the lines of a Light Citron (which I believe someone else already mentioned).

  45. I went to my local J Crew this morning in Peabody, MA and wasn't that impressed. The Melanie button-cuff cardigans were on sale for more than they are online currently. The sale section was OK, an extra 30% off everything.

  49. I have a question. Just checked my receipt and realized this: i bought the university pant. It was $99.99 at the store and $75 online. I asked for a price match and he checked price online and said: sure. What I did not realize is that he did not give me 30% off, so I actually would have been better off with store price with extra % off. Is this what was supposed to happen? Or they should have given me $75 less 30% off?

In good news, I got the double serge skirt in black real cheap and also long black merino cardi with black buttons... have been wanting those things for a while!

  50. I went by the store in Tucson and it was packed. It is a very small store so it is hard to navigate with a stroller, so I did not get much of a chance to look. I did notice a full rack of the tissue sequin placket shirts. Looked to be the grey, navy, and black. You would think they were giving stuff away or something, given how many people were there!

We went so my husband could feel a secret wash shirt. It is cheaper to get it online but he wanted to know the texture before we paid for shipping.

  52. I went to the downtown SF store and even though it was fairly busy, I wasn't impressed with their sale section at all. They are currently offering additional 30% off for sale items.

They still have cashmere femme sweaters and some cashmere crewneck tees all in bright colors. They had plenty of taffeta a-line skirts and some sketchbook rose skirts ($69.99). They have loads of tees on sale as well but other than that, nothing special. The sale section hasn't changed much in the past few weeks.

Shoes: size 8 and above, they had only two pair of shoes in 7 (Salina flats in black and mocs).

  54. I tried to get the education discount applied to my online order with no luck. It is frustrating because the purpose of the discount is to give educators something additional. Also, it makes no sense for it to be applied randomly. I haven't received any discount cards or coupons, although I'm not a cardholder. I'm shopping elsewhere since much better deals can be found easily. Martin and Osa has a 20% off code with free shipping AND returns. I found the code online.

  56. Audrey - I've only seen the lulu metallic in one color, but the platinum gold is not really very gold, kind of like a silvery gold. I have the yellow one and it's fairly comfortable for me.

To the anon who is checking out the Jamie bag. I ordered one in black after seeing one on display. It's a lot nicer in person than in the catalog, and with a standard black color the trendy style is a bit toned down. Plus with 30% off online it's about $210.

green_dino - was at the brea store and south coast store today. The south coast had some double serge in ochre on sale as well, but they were going fast. They also had a few of the pembroke dot yellow skirts. I snagged a wide pale almond patent belt at Brea for $13, and the beckett flat leather boots at South Coast for $130 with the 30% off. I think they are $229 online, but $199 at the store.

I ordered a bunch of stuff online yesterday, so I think I am done until after new year.

  63. I went to a B&M nearby today. Pretty much the same as online but I found followings:

Double serge skirt bronzed ochre (only size 10 and 12): $79.99 + 30% off

Felted wool mini (camel, black, and white): $59.99 + 30% off

My waitlisted double serge in bronzed ochre, which I ordered 2 months ago at almost full price, was finally shipped yesterday, but I was shocked to see this price:(

  65. Anon at 7:34 - What a great deal on the belt! I picked up the double serge skirt in black at Brea as well as the merino rose cardi in plum.

Oh - forgot to mention - they have piles and piles of the watson pants at $19.99 (= $13 with the 20% off).

green_dino - I know how you feel; the shipping rate is a killer. I waited for 2 days and finally submitted my order (a few things were sold out by the time I made up my mind). But after having to pay the maximum $18.5 for shipping I want to make sure I got everything on my list as I am not going to pay shipping again until a better deal comes along.

  81. Hi all,

I know I said that I was going to stay away from the B&M this week. But I just happened to be near one & I just happened to have a blouse I needed to return in the car w. me.. So the sensible thing to do was to go, no?

Anywho, as with SanFranciscoCA's exp., the Carmel store didn't wow me. Most of the pre-Fri sales were in effect including:
    40% off socks
    20-30% off select sweaters
    30-40% off select outerwear
    P.J.s for $29.95
    & Cords for a sale price (I'm afraid I can't remember)

The sale section was an addtn'l 30%, however, most everyone was walking by, glancing through, & leaving on the shelf the following:

    White & Black Peacoats
    Several wool mini's
    3-4 Herringbone/ serge pencil skirts
    4-5 knit dresses in black
    Emerson blouses
    colourblock sweaters
    Lili ruffle-chiffon cardigan
Irvington co-ed cardigan (grey, almond & a tea colour called Hickory that I think is an instore only shade)
Mustache - I mean feather, rosette, & a few leather belts

There were a few shoe boxes as well... Sorry all, I was rushing about in the last hour or so - so I didn't get a good look.

Please note, the Carmel store stocks only women's styles. so, while their selection is more varied -- your gift-buying choices are limited. That said, there were more customers on Friday than I'd seen before. The store was humming along - but the SAs were sailing through on a wave of good spirits.

I had hoped to find a replacement for my blouse... Unfortunately, the pale blue was out of stock.

Also, I had been trying to make a decision on a p6 Madeline (it's a bit off in the bodice) by comparing it with a 4 reg. They very kindly let me take over a dressing room & fuss for nearly 1/2 hour. In the end, the SA offered to hang onto the P6 for me & ask their tailor if a modification could be made. Then we used the red phone to order a LadyDay in a similar colour & size. My dear SA stuck to her guns& insisted on speaking to a supervisor to make sure that I got the in store 40% as well as free shipping! The CS allowed me to add an umbrella with my educator disc & I still managed to stay under budget. Definitely worth the trip!

Oh, if you're interested... I got the "Full-size umbrella, $49.50 item 98796". I've found that I take better care of larger umbrellas (my Da would call them "Bombershoots") than the small collapsible versions. Since it would make a handsome gift to family members in rainy climes, I may buy more with the Turkey code.

Lastly, I agree w. Roxy & Kendra. It does seem that more & more items are online/catalogue only. Take my LadyDay-- even in an all women's store, the only stock a select few coat styles & colours.

Ooooh & one more bit o'gossip... The SA at Carmel said there are plans in the works for opening another women's only store here in CA. Apparently, they're planning on a new branch in Los Gatos. I guess Mickey feels that the area can support a few more B&M storefronts despite the economy. It will certainly help my traveling expense. More $$ to spend on Jcrew instead of gas!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving & a restful weekend!

  82. Anon 11:06,

Good grief, why so defensive? I wasn't criticizing you! It was just an observation that many of the biggest J. Crew shoppers who post on this blog are stay at homes. And the comment was accompanied by a smiley face icon, I might add.

For the record, I am a professional and I don't dry clean anything from J. Crew.

  83. I hit up the outlets in Pleasant Prairie, WI and the retail store at Mayfair (in Wauwatosa, WI).

The outlet was awesome. It was incredibly well-staffed and very clean and there were wonderful deals to be had. I picked up the scottie dog sweater from last season, an argyle v-neck sweater that I think was outlet-only, and a shawl-collar sweater that I had never seen before so is definitely outlet only. I also got some socks, a few headbands from last winter, and a tie for the bf. My grand total after the promos and my student discount was $130. There were favorite tanks for $4.99 and a ton of outerwear that all seemed to be at least half off, plus some Bella jackets, the snow-leopard Tartine, and quite a few current "in-store" pieces.

Mayfair was a nightmare - the SAs were all standing around gossiping in the clearance section. It was like they wanted to prevent people from looking at anything. I didn't see any good deals to be had either.

  84. Audrey,
The Lulu peeptops surely did come in metallic silver with a dark slate colored bow. They are DIVINE-beauty and comfort that lasts hours!
    Alexis,
    Happy belated thanksgiving!

  85. I went to the new store in Stamford, and it was amazing. Everything (other than clearance) was 20% off, and the clearance was all 30% off, and I was allowed to use my student discount on top of that! So, I got 2 jackie cardigans, a cambridge cable crewneck, two men's shirts (not sure what they are...), and a headband for about $115. I also had $25 off any purchase of $150.

All the SA were very nice and helpful, although maybe not completely knowledgeable about the merchandise yet.

    Has anyone else gone?

I saw a Pembridge Dot Skirt in ivory size 0 in Carmel CA shop yesterday (wish it were a Boston area store...) I hope SAs will help you to locate the item you are looking for!

  87. Hey "Five Tomatoes"....I'm from the Milwaukee area too, and frequent the Mayfair JCrew often. What is your opinion on the SAs there? I have only had a couple that I like. All the rest never acknowledge you when you walk in the store and never seem willing to help with anything. Glad I didn't make a special trip there yesterday!

  88. Just got back from the Rockefeller Center (NYC) store, which was predictably a zoo. On sale for an extra 20% off were honey cashmere v-necks, the merino wave cardigan, the roses print skirt, the black sparkly tweed skirt (5 of them -- all size 8!!), lots of sharkskin skirts, plenty of white peacoats in sizes XS and M only, a couple of hammered tanks, two vita camis (sz 4 in navy or 10 in blue) and that's all I can remember. Headed to Madison Ave now. Oh, also I used the 25% off card that I got in the mail yesterday and they gave it back to me (took some convincing that it wasn't 1-time use though).

were you able to combine discounts with 25% off card? Thank you!

  90. I went to the Tucson store today (Saturday) and did manage to get a few good things. The wide patent belts are $19.99 and 30% off, so I got black, almond, yellow and brown. They had tons. I got an ivory and plum Emerson blouse for $19.99 each and 30% off. My big coup was the Jenna bracelet that was on sale for $44.99 and 30% off. I have no idea why it was on sale, I got the only one they had.

I'm still hunting for the snow leopard tartine cardigan in XS. If anyone sees this, please put on hold and email me! Mrsnonia@aol.com

  91. The B&Ms in Seattle and Portland have additional 30% off final sale - I got the chiffon rosette belt for $5 with 30% and student discount. The have 30% off final sale on cable crewneck sweaters, bootcut cords, coats, dream cardigans and sherpa lined hoodies.

  93. Must say, I wasn't too impressed with the selection from the South Coast store (Costa Mesa, California). I was really excited to try on their newer items too, namely the Quinn cami and several of their suiting skirts. I was disappointed w/ all the items I tried on. Oh, and I also tried the Victoria ruffle thing; might break down and get that in the ivory and golden olive. And maybe the spotted one ;-p Didn't buy from the store though because soo many of them were snagged. Which also made me wonder about the overall durability and quality of the fabric. Their suiting skirts were all evidencing major pilling problems, too. The metallic python skirt was the worst - tufts of the fabric were just coming out. Eeew! Thankfully I already have a party skirt. The Quinn cami didn't suit me well at all; collar/straps were waay to wide; considered altering it, but wasn't enough fabric on the garment to get the fit I wanted, and of course the next size up I was just swimming in it. Other thing I didn't like about it was that i was too sheer. Almost same problem w/ Victoria cami; well, I think it's more of a tank though, you know? If I do break down and purchase it, any recommendations for cami to wear underneath? No way I can get away wearing just a bra underneath.. I'm also concerned that if it's worn w/ a cami underneath (haha, need a cami under a cami), it'll fudge the shape. *sigh*

In other shopping goodness, Theory was having a 50% off, so I hit that up and got a lovely blouse and pencil skirt. Love the blouse because I can layer it, and still look professional. Or leave it alone and wear it w/ a long pendant necklace. Also looks hot tucked in/left out or belted. So, that purchase was very versatile! Wolford is also 50% whole store, yay! Anthropologie had good selections too, esp. of casual stuff, whereas Jcrew was mainly solid colors or tees waay to sheer for any female to be wearing. I'd love it if Jcrew focused more on their sizing/shape of clothing and quality vs. having a bigger selection.

  95. I dropped by Banana Republic yesterday and found one item which looked exactly same as Pintuck jersey scoopneck tee. Does BR copied J.Crew or J.Crew copid BR or both copied a high-end designer which invented this syle?

  96. anon @ 4:43: I've run into this. I went into the Crocker Park (OH) store, they had the belts with the feathers on them for full price and I asked for the online price as always. They said the "in store" price was $34.99 and the online "promo" price was $29.50... so if I wanted the extra 30% off I had to get it off the $34.99 not the $29.50.

And for the anon whose boyfriend went to the store to check out a shirt but was going to order online since it was cheaper... I always ask the store to match the online price! And they always do.

For example, I found a random Joelle cami in my size at the Somerset store this weekend, and I knew that it was $19.99 online before it sold out... but the one in the store rang up as $59.99. No way was I going to pay that. I ended up getting it for $12 and change after 30% off and 15% student discount. It never hurts to ask since things are often so much cheaper online!

They had alot of stuff at the Somerset store for women... lots of cords, tons of cashmere femme sweaters marked down to $89.99... and a bunch of black wide patent belts. They had one wide garden bracelet that I wanted but when I looked closer it had crystals missing... chintzy!

I got the solid Anette blouse (the silk collection one) for $12... more than 90% off. That and the Joelle both were catalog returns I'm pretty sure. Works for me!

  97. I just went to my B&M (in Towson, MD) and snagged an xs ivory classic peacoat with thinsulate (#99728) for $107. It was reduced to $179 with an additional in-store 30% discount and a 15% educator's discount. They have about 6 left if anyone's interested.

  98. To the Anon who asked about the Mayfair store - I have had the same experience. There are a few very helpful SAs (the man with brown hair and glasses and the very pretty girl with long blonde hair) but as a general rule they aren't so fabulous.

J.Crew shop in Santa Clara (Valley Fair) CA offered a price adjustment when I asked why the online price and in-shop price were different 6 months ago, though I am not sure if they will do now.

thanks for the tip. i'll try calling right now, since im thinking its 6:50ish in california. the ivory looked nice on michelle obama but then again i really loved the gold online and i haven't seen it in stores...perhaps it's an catalog only color=(

also i just ordered the metallic houndstooth phoebe jacket and a couple of other things before the turkey promo ends..

does anyone have a review on this? i have a feeling this might go back...since the description says it hits high hip while..the shoulders are so angled...im thinking i might not like the fit so well...my sister says it reminds her of michael jackson's metallic shoulder pad jackets lol

  105. Amanda,

At the Portland store (Pioneer Place), did you notice any double serge pencil skirts on sale? Were there also the wide belts on sale? I need a heads up. Alot of people on this blog are on the other coast OR California! I have too make big arrangements to get downtown, but I really want to go to the b&m before Christmas...

    TIA!

  106. I bought a city fit watson pants for $13, and for that price I can't complain. It's a lightweight cotton but it has a nice hand. The fit is TTS, but it's a tad wider on the thigh than I like. I tend to like the cafe capris or matchstick styles. It's more a trouser style with cuffed bottom. Even with a 'short' length it's still too long for me with heels, so I'll have to get it hemmed. Overall I think it's a nice basic summer pants.

  109. Hi again,

    You're welcome anon.

I'd like to take a photo or two of the layout, if I could. Last time I was in Carmel, they stopped a family from taking pictures of one another. I'm betting it's store policy.

Ummm... lesse if I can provide more info from my less than perfect memory. The store is in a two story open-air mall. The mall is well appointed with long, covered walkways. There are two large display windows that let in a good deal of light. As you enter, there is a selection of outerwear & sweaters on the left. to the right is a good selection of p.j.s, socks, etc. In front is a large display table. The first of three, it has a few full sized displays along with a sweater selection. Next table has more sweaters & tees. To the right is the sale area. On the left are sweaters & some cords. Last table has accessories. To the left are blouses & such. To the right are the changing rooms. The far back wall has the registers & jewelry display cases.

This store seems focused on mix of mostly separates with a few dresses & outerwear. Palo Alto & San jose both stock more work wear esp. suiting.

That said. The staff are excellent & very willing to go the extra mile for their clients. Also, I've seen a few items, esp outwear & sweaters at Carmel that weren't in stock elsewhere.

They say the new store will be opening next spring. It should be interesting to see if they follow the Carmel example or take a new approach. Hopefully, I'll get to review it for y'll then.

    Cheers,

    Heather:D
