Dear FFM: Help Put Together A J.Crew Outfit For Me

FabulousFloridaMommy (FFM) regularly guest blogs on outfits she creates with items that you, the members, request. :)
FFM has done it yet again! A big "thank you!" to FFM, who has created a fabulous outfit for numerous requests on styling J.Crew's "new arrivals" in the "Dear FFM: Help Put Together A J.Crew Outfit For Me" post!

To view the wonderful sets, click on the links below. (The name of the link relates to the request for an outfit.)
Are there any items from J.Crew (that you either own or are thinking about getting) that you would like FFM to create outfit ideas. Feel free to include additional info like: the climate/season you want to wear the item/outfit, as well as age bracket/lifestyle. :) After a few days, FFM will select a few items (from the feedback) to create a couple of Polyvore outfits with those items (which will then be posted for all).

What J.Crew pieces do you often wonder how to use in an outfit? What J.Crew items would you like to see an outfit created for (please include item name or item number)? Do you have any J.Crew items in your closet that you are unsure how to style with? Please, let us know! :)

  1. I just bought the Francie skirt in bright papaya. It's much brighter than my usual wardrobe color palette (navies, browns, black, dark red), so I'm not quite sure how to style it, but I hope to wear it this winter. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, where in the winter, the worst it gets is wind, rain, and fog. I'm also a 23 year old pharmacy student, and since work clothes are fairly conservative where I work, the Francie is something I'd wear while shopping or going out with friends for a meal :)

    Thanks!

  2. I love the look of the cashmere heirloom henley! I wonder if anyone has tried it on in person and can give their thoughts on it? I have one ordered, but it's waitlisted until apparently the end of next month. :) I'd like an idea of what I can expect.

Also, love the color combos, FFM. :) Can you give some ideas on how to dress up the slub cotton henley? I wear them with jeans but I think the look can sometimes be sloppy. Thanks! :)

  3. TURKEY is now working. Melanie: I have the heirloom henley and it is amazing. If they go on sale I will be getting more. The fit is great - I am a medium and it fits perfectly. I am petite and it hits about mid hip and is fitted without being tight. I just had a baby so my stomach is still an issue spot but it doesn't cling to that area, just glides nicely over it:) The neck is my favorite part, a very nice opening that doesn't give away the store:) The cashmere is nice feeling. I have worn it twice and don't see any piling (which I shouldn't but there have been complaints about jcrew cashmere in the past). HTH svid

  4. Looks like TURKEY works on full and sale priced items. Not a bad deal =)

  5. FFM - Thank you so much for putting together the set w/ the sweet potato Marcella. I would have never thought of layering the turtle neck underneath...so cute! I will have to try it out. Thanks again!

Also, I purchased the Sharkskin skirt in metallic silver this weekend. Its such a pretty skirt and I love how the fabric feels, but now that its hanging in my closet, I'm wondering what to wear it with?? Would you please do a set with the skirt if you have time? Thank you!!

  6. Just used "TURKEY" on a pretty big order, including sale and promo (ending in .99 and .50), men's promo and crewcuts boys & girls and the discount was applied to every single item - 30% off.

  8. There are more markdowns this morning, cashmere tees $99.00, sleepwear now reduced more, if you have the money you can get some good deals with the turkey code.

Some things that I coveted are on sale but I am passing.

  9. I just bought the francie skirt in both black and sea salt and would love suggestions on how to wear them tow work in a business professional environment.

I also purchased the sharkskin skirt in the silver colour to wear to my firm's christmas party, which has a "cabaret" theme this year. Dress is cocktail attire but I'd prefer to wear separates this year rather than a cocktail dress so I can get more use out of my pieces. Would love to see what you would recommend!!

  11. Hi FFM -
I'd love suggestions on the Fog White Dot Trixie Heels for both casual as well as the school environment (I'm a teacher).

    Thank you!

  12. I would love some tips on how to wear bright colored matchstick cords? I got a bunch of them because they were so cheap- bright rhubarb, kelly green...I also got the bootcut cords in golden yellow. they're seriously really hard to match besides a black turtleneck...esp. the kelly green.

    sos, ffm!

  13. Sounds like you all got some really great pieces! Congratulations!!! :)

suilove: I did a couple of sets with the bright cords...maybe they will give you an idea or two for now. :) Click Here , and Here.

  15. Hi FFM-

I got a great deal on the Metallic Herringbone Clea Jacket. I normally wear neutrals, so the pop of color is fun, but a little hard to work with.

Someone yesterday suggested gray cords, and I liked that idea. If you have any other ideas, that would be great.

Basically the fabric is the same color as the Lucille Orange intermixed with a cream/taupe color which has a slight sheen in certain lights.

I live in SF, so this can be used as a coat substitute. My style is conservative but modern. I am tall and a 4/6.

    Thank You!!

  16. FFM, if you please...? The cashmere boyfriend cardigan in light spearmint...I'm not sure about pant shapes with such a long cardigan, and other color combos...? Thanks in advance!!

  17. FFM I just purchased the Abstract Rose Skirt on sale, but I can't figure out what to pair it with. I'm 22 so I'm a little worried that just wearing a cardigan with it might look a little matronly. I'm from CT so something that would stand up to the cold would be fabulous, but I'd be just as happy with a warmer weather outfit!

  18. Dear FFM, can you help me with my new Belle skirt in deep fog? I am from MA, so anything that is cute *and* warm would be welcome. Thanks for all your beautiful creations!

  19. FFM, can you do anything with the Dream Silvie dress in Camel?

Or anything with light spearmint sweaters, I am confused as to what colors this goes with!

    Thanks!!

  20. Suilove...

I have the golden yellow cords and wore them with the "Slub-cotton crest graphic tee" in white (the crest is silver and gold which really pulls it together with the golden color of the pants)and a charcoal/dark gray cashmere cardigan. The dark gray plays down the vibrant yellow gold color of the cords! I just thought I would suggest it because I am pleased with how it looked!

The slub crest tee is sold out online currently, but maybe it will reappear if you continue to check!

Hope that gives you an idea! :)

  21. It received a lot of negative feedback in September due to the catalog/website showing the jacket with ruffled sleeves that really weren't there......however, with the 30% extra, I just purchased the Floral ruffle Astrid jacket for $104- seemed like it was worth the chance. Looking for outfit ideas for the holiday season- casual or dressy. THANKS!

  22. athena,

thanks for the tip! I just tried on the cords with my dream v neck cardigan in charcoal with a white cami, black wide patent belt and a tortoise hairband...i love how the hairband and buttons on the cardigan match along with the golden-ness of the pants. i'll be on the lookout for the tee! thanks!!

  23. HI, FFM!

Will you please do a polyvore with interesting color combinations that will work with the Claudia metallic sherbet pumps? I have quite a bit of coral/shell/melon/papaya-colored items, but do you have any interesting color combinations to suggest?

    THANKS!!

  24. Hi FFM,

Thanks again for the Majestic Madeline & Poppy LadyDay sets. I printed them out I took them with me to the B&M just this week. They really help when trying to express an image to the SAs.

I got the Madeline in P6, but may need to shift to a reg 4 or get some tailoring to adjust the fit. However, I have both a Poppy & Purple LadyDay on order. Maybe I'll fall in love with both & save myself a trip to the seamstress.

    Thanks again for the help!

  25. Dear FFM: Although I am a decent fashionista :) I need some help with dresses and skirts. For the past few years, I drifted toward and got used to wearing pants to work. It got started one day with something like my legs are too pale, no time to shave, darn the bruise I got from running into a chair, etc. etc. and the next thing you know, it's been a few years since I've worn a skirt to work. It seems I only see bare legs with skirts? Do people wear hose anymore? If so, colors or nude? I get cold easily so what about tights and boots? Thanks for your help!

Me too, just bought this one because it was on a super sale. I love the skirt, the fabric is fabulous, but agree with Anon #1 it is quite bright.

I'm in South Fla. so I can get away with the color I just don't know what to pair it with.

  27. Suzi: In Spring and Summer I opt for skirts with bare legs...a little tip: I apply the same foundation that I use on my face to my legs to cover any spots I may not like, and give a smoother appearance. For Fall/Winter, I am a big fan of tights, as well as hosiery/stockings. Depending on the color scheme of your outfit, your choices will vary. Wearing a brown skirt? Choose either brown tights or nude stockings. A black skirt? Black tights or black opaque stockings. Winter white skirt? Try cream tights or opt for the nude stockings again. HTH!! I'm glad you are going back to dresses and skirts...they are so feminine and pretty on. :)

  28. Hi Everyone! Thanks for your compliments and requests! I am currently working on sets...sorry it's taken a little longer this time around! A sick baby as well as *life stuff* have slowed me down the past couple of weeks. More sets coming soon! :)
