J.Crew Email: Up To 50% Off. Fall Sale.

J.Crew sent an email announcing the "best Fall sale ever" both online and in-stores. As many of you have pointed out, there have been some price reductions and new additions to the online sale section.

For example the Bouclé Tweed Penny Jacket (Item 98464; $228.00 now $159.99) is on sale in all three colors, whereas before it was just the ivory on sale. Silver_Lining (in this post) noticed the following: "Looks like there are some new markdowns on .com - the taffeta A-line skirt is down to $80, the red Francie skirt is $59.99, floppy-flower Astrid is $160, chiffon cardigan is $95.00 and the bow-neck cardigan is $59.50."

Happy Shopping! :)

  1. Glad to see some more reductions, but really now...the best fall sale ever? I have to disagree...

  2. This is their best fall sale ever! No way! I have been shopping with JCRew for 7 years and this is the worst fall online sale in years in my opinion. I love JCrew but I am not dumb! Please! A few new promo items and a few new sale items (like 3-4) mixed in with the same old same old does not make it the best!

  3. Thank you so much for letting me know about the sale! Ever since my fiance bought me a gorgeous diamond necklace from www.idonowidont.com I want to buy some new chic outfits to match and I adore their clothes.

I want to look good when I go downtown with my girlfriends so thanks for the tip!

  5. The Owen Hobo on a post yesterday - THANKS so much to those of you who posted comments/links/reviews for me! I appreciate it SO much. LOVE this blog and everyone's help! FFM -LOVE your blog too - you are SO talented!

  6. Just curious, a waitlisted item that I ordered is now reduced. Will J.crew give me a credit adjustment once/if the item is shipped?

    ReplyDelete
  7. anon 9.00- Yes they will, you have to call CS to get the adjustment. This happened to me awhile ago and they had to open a case for it but it got done.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Thanks, casual-crew. Can I contact them now or do I have to wait until the item is actually shipped? It's the plum peacoat that's scheduled to ship on 11/24. TIA

    ReplyDelete
  9. I got the plum peacoat too! Yay!! I love the color plum this season. :)

  10. I didn't get the email, and I don't see the 50% off on the website - I wonder what's going on...

    ReplyDelete
  11. Argyle: If you read the fine print of the email, it states: "total savings of up to 50% is off of original prices"

I initially thought it was an additional 50% off everything in the final sale too. But I thought that was too good to be true (for online), which prompted me to then read the fine print. Sorry for any confusion. :)

  12. jcrewjunkie: Did you receive yours yet? I ordered two different sizes 3 weeks ago. It seems like it's taking forever...

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh, no - that's too bad. I do think that's what J. Crew needs to do - something big like that. Oh, well...I'll keep waiting.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree that the fall sale's not the best EVER ;) but the wool twill university pants are FINALLY on sale!

  15. Is anyone else having website issues? The page doesn't seem to be loading.

  17. OT Does anyone have the Navy Milano Knit Spring Coat (it's really like a a sweater jacket)? item 95553
One of our awesome friends found a way to navigate and access (very covert I might add) sale items that don't show up on their own and this jacket came up. it looks really cute and the price is QUITE nice at $69.99 from $178. Anyone out there have it that can comment on fit and style? It runs xs, sm.. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Covert5: I bought the Milano Knit sweater coat last spring. I live in the N.E. and I found it to be a great transitional piece during the unpredictable spring months.

It runs a little large. It's a very streamline fit and very flattering. I normally wear a small, but I wore xs in the milano knit jacket. I do not have broad shoulders. If you are broad shouldered you may want to stay with your normal size. I do find the knit sweater jackets do give. I have the Piazza jacket as well.

    HTH :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. ^thank you for that info--I ordered it in xs and sm to compare (yea-no final sale allows that!;) Is it a thick knit like early/mid Fall?

I know I am negative Nilly but I find it awful that people use that sweater coupon and buy say..the Ava Cashmere for $135 plus pay shipping only to have it on sale again for $130 (with a free shipping code)the day after the coupon ends. That would really irk me and I feel bad for those that caved on a sweater yesterday only to see that today. I guess that's retail for ya! One day it's $130, the next back to $168 with coupon and the next back to $130--gotta be an educated consumer I suppose.

  20. OT - Can we do a post regarding how people are wearing the chiffon rosette tie belts?? I ADORE these and bought four on mega clearance, and I think they look super cute, but I am just wondering how people are tying them?? People have been telling me that they think it looks dumb how it ties in the back and the strings hang down. I totally love these belts though...any suggestions?? Not willing to give up yet!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Covert5: I have the same jacket. This looks like the one I purchased over the summer. I had actually offered it on one of the sale/exchange posts a few months back. It is a very classy sweater jacket, but I have way too much navy and have never worn it. It you are interested in a Medium with tags attached, I am trying to sell mine for $55 shipped.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I wear mine tied around the back and then forward again tying the strings in a knot next to the bow and that looks really cute--try that;)
I know some are wearing them in their hair--they cut the ribbon shorter and that's also darling!

    ReplyDelete
  23. leaderboys-I missed that but it sounds like I am going to need the xs based on the other poster. I appreciate it very much!

    ReplyDelete
  24. What about that Clara cardi-what do you all make of that? I love the vintage feel but I just don't get how one wears it--I think it's odd with long sleeves. Is that just me? Does anyone have it and LOVE it!?

    ReplyDelete
  25. since there was a free shipping code I ordered a few things:

city luxe fit cords- dark choc

    cashmere keepsake cardi- honey glaze

i probably should have waited until after turkey day but i noticed that the cashmere keepsake cardi in my size was very limited

    ReplyDelete
  26. Nice back-handed insult (as usual). I guess anyone that buys something they want is now not "educated"? You really take the fun out of this blog. :(

    ReplyDelete
  27. Has anyone purchased the Penny jacket that can comment on its fit? TTS? Is it boxy? Also, i'm torn between colors. Should i go for black or ivory?

    TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  28. anon@10:42 wow, someone needs to take a happy pill or get off the blog. I thought covert5 simply meant you have to be on the jcrew website everyday or on here all the time in order to get the best deal. aren't you being a little rough on her?

    ReplyDelete
  29. The site is down. When it is up, it is taking so long to load a page, it eventually times out and/or crashes! frustrating. Hope they get this fixed by the holidays... oh, that's right, this is the holidays! :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. what does TIA mean?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would like to order the boucle jacket, but the website is SO SLOW. It makes me rethink ordering online. I cannot believe the website is still having problems!!!! This has been going on for almost 5 months now. Huge bummer.

    ReplyDelete
  32. TIA = thanks in advance

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anybody have the feeling that every the sale items are getting all goofed up and changed up which results in the site pretty much crashing and showing the dreaded "be back soon"? Nuts. Also fuming that a accessories I bought full boat and had just recieved due to cancellations and web errors are now almost cut in half. Its like, why bother anymore! And why pay full boat if they are going to go on sale drastically by the time they get around to sending them out!!! The CS department has to be going nuts. These new drastic markdowns on recently added items are setting up a pattern in everyone's shopping and will utimately hurt them IMHO. I think they should just keep the pricing in check in the first place as the items are obviously waaaaay overpriced anymore for what you are getting. They are having a major idenity crisis. Curious as to what constitutes a $2500 cardigan from this company. Come on! They are getting out of control.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oops, I meant "every Friday" in first line, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  35. TIA means thanks in advance. The site is taking me forever to load and occasionally I get the "Be back soon" message. So frustrating!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Cleo26:
I bought Penny in ivory and my regular size 4 and had toreturn it:
way too boxy. Aslo, there was smth unappealing about white fabric covered buttons- almost as someone forgot to remove tissue paper, but that's the way they were. I returned the jacket and that was it for me.
However, fabric is nice, feel of it is substantial, structure is nice if you are looking for this particluar type of jacket.
Personally,I did not need another tailored/dressy jacket, but it'sanice one nevertheless. So, try it on before buying or downsize ( will fit well on body, but might be promblematic in shoulders).

  37. Honestly, I am having no problems on the JCrew website and I have been on about 10 times today checking various items:)

  38. Thanks ANON 11:22
Some sad person has come on board just to negatively comment on my every post. Funny thing is I am finding they are attacking me but what they are saying doesn't really make sense--as you pointed out. I am trying to be helpful--they think everything I say is an insult--I believe it's called "frame of mind" and theirs is obviously troubled. Ignore;)

mb-I would call in your order-at least you can be guaranteed it's placed that way.

    ReplyDelete
  39. anon 9:17 - Sorry I am late getting back to you, I would call them now, and I would suggest getting the persons name and making sure that they make notations on the account.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Covert- I always appreciate your comments!

Now someone will call me "fat" again...that's what happened last time I got involved. ;)

  41. Thanks for the advice, casual-crew. Much appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh Amy--what a sweetheart! Thank you. I am laughing out loud right now only to keep from crying. People are so cruel aren't they? They don't even know you! It's so easy for them to troll the blog, hide behind their anon and rip on people they don't know. You have been on an amazing journey according to your blog--I am quite sure you are far more "wordly" than those that post negative comments.
BTW-I hope you get those camel pants you are after;)

  43. The 50% off may be great for catalog/internet items but isn't so hot when you take into consideration alot of the B&M items were or are 50% off the marked down online price (or less). (Silk jersey pleated tanks have been available in stores for $7.99 for well over a month & Luxe knit top is $15.00 - with the 40-50% off in store sales).

I noticed the silk taffeta shorts appear to be sold out in all sizes but size 8. Can anyone review the taffeta shorts. I wanted to order them but waited too long for the price to go down but maybe they'll be back.

  49. Hi all,

I agree that this %50 off (reg. price) sale is a little misleading. I’ve been keeping an eye out for good deals on the outerwear – most esp. the Madeline & Lady Day – so I can say with confidence that the prices haven’t dropped. They’ve just moved them from the promotional area into the sale section. I think that the delay was so people wouldn’t try to use the %30 off sale coupon on them earlier. I’ve been doing my homework by reading this blog ((oh & covert5, I didn’t feel insulted either)) & I think I may wait a little longer.

It seems that one should pay full price for things that are a must-have that could sell quickly. Judging by the posts like “Fall Outerwear on Sale” & “JCrew Coats: Which One is For You” I can wait a bit & see if the price goes down further before making my selection.

Also, to answer nonickname’s question, there are many ways to wear the rose chiffon belt. In fact, I acted on a suggestion from this blog & used the belts as trim on B Day pressie’s for a dear friend. She & I went over the many ways they could be used. Including:

Slung low on the hips with the rose on one side & the ribbons tied into a bow on the other.
Tied at the waist w. the ribbons doubled & knotted under the existing bow.
Over a longish sweater (like the merino w. glass buttons) bloused & defining the waist.
At the waist of a dress with the ribbons in the back (this works better w. full skirts)
As an accessory in the lapel of a blazer or jacket.

Additionally, This site has a few suggestions in the Bring on the Belts thread. Also, there are a few headbands in the B&Ms in CA that have similar rosettes if you’d like to wear them in your hair.

Lastly, if you’re interested in making it a signature piece, there’s a good guide to making your own belts at:

    http://fabfindsunder50.blogspot.com/2008/08/diy-tulle-rosette-belt-give-away.html

As for me, I’ve received nothing but compliments when I wear them. I’ve found that they give a fun little pop of colour on an otherwise conservative outfit.

    HTH,

    Heather:D

  50. Oooh... wonder if my store will have the new catalog? I NEVER get the new catalogs at home. I only get old catalogs after they've been out for a LONG time.

I didn't even receive the latest November gift one.

  51. I second jliz's comment on the alpaca shawl cardigan. I feel like I didn't even notice it and suddenly it was on sale ... and then suddenly not available at all. :) It looks cute but maybe more cropped than I'd want?

  54. Did this happen to anyone else -- while I was browsing the SUPER SLOW size around 11ish all of a sudden the number of sale items went from 700 something to 400something, and all the amounts next to the categories dropped as well. I wonder if any of that stuff was actually there at all, or if there were only 400 things to begin with.... That's happened before and it's such a tease! It's like, what are you hiding?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hi again,

Oooops! Nonickname, I'm so sorry. I forgot to mention that FFM has uesd the chiffon rosette on a few of her sets as well. Just in case you'd like to see 'em, enter Chiffon Rosette Belt in the search field on this blog. It should be about the third thread down. HTH

Also, has anyone else noticed that the styling in the catalogue has become somewhat bipolar? That lovely model on pages 68 & 73 looks so disheveled & sloppy. Page 73 is esp. sad, it does NOT make me want to run right out & spend $$$ on the Heloise coat. However, I don't think it's the model's fault as she looks great - pulled together & stylish- on pg77. Do they have more than one stylist for these shoots? I guess it gets back to the image confusion, luxe vs. casual. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Heather:D

    ReplyDelete
  59. I also think the email is very misleading. I got all excited and thought they were offering 50% off all sale items, and then I read the fine print. Drat. Not that it matters -- the website won't load for me anyway! Sad Friday.

  60. hi all!

i went to a teacher event last night at the j crew in friendship heights (DC). it was a nice event. the sale section was obviously very, very picked over at this point, but, they were offering lots of additional one day only specials. for example, an extra 10% off added to the 15% teacher discount for total of 25% off. doesn't sound like much, but, once it was added up, i was happy with the prices. (with the extra 20% on sweaters, all full price sweaters were then down to 45% off) they also gave the sale prices on items that are not yet marked down but will be marked down over the weekend, combined with the teacher discount. and i called today to ask about prices of certain items and they still haven't been marked down yet, so it was a nice deal.

i was able to get the dream soho dress (a great teacher basic) for $62, i got the valerie bow cardigan for $55, and the wide patent belt in blanched almond for $22.

so, if you are a teacher and get invited to one of the teacher events, definitely check it out!

    ReplyDelete
  61. ms. mindless: that was a nice deal. I always find the staff so helpful at the friendship location and to get a discount on top of the great service is stellar. :)

  62. Has anyone tried the Snow Leopard print shirt dress? It's on sale for $69.99 and the model looks good in it.

I would appreciate any feedback on fit.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Up to 50% off, as long as you want an ugly yellow string bikini bottom and some fugly orange pants. The only time you can get a good sale price at J Crew is on final sale and then you can't even return anything.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Heather, glad someone else noticed the craziness of the new catalog and I know exactly what you are speaking of and posted on another issue about that girl. Its a cross between doing a hillbilly jig and early 90's grunge. Its very bizarre to me and the poor girl needs a burger and a hairbrush. She improves as the pages go on but jeesh, holiday catalogs are usually glam and elegant, what were they thinking? Its still makes me shake my head and laugh when I get to that part. At least they made me laugh and smile in some way lately!!! Just kidding.

I do really like the wedding pics, I think they are festive and beautiful. However how many of us are in a wedding this year? So its mostly eye candy. As I said earlier, they are having a huge idenity crisis as of lately. I just think the holiday offerings are so blah. Those trapper hats are back too, its just too much re-hashed looks we are getting tired of. How many bib necklaces and chanel-ish looking jackets can you own until it becomes way, way too excessive and or boring. I hope Spring brings new life to it all.

P.S.Sorry to the model if you happen to see this, you cleaned up nice at the end, they just made a fool out of you out of the gate!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. OMG-Lily I am laughing SO hard again! You have totally nailed it--it is so weird what they have done to this poor model--that hillbilly look is hilarious and turn, turn the page and agreeing with heather d--she looks fab on pg.77--now that's some bi-polar advertising!

  66. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/13/fashion/13INTERVIEW.html?ref=fashion

  67. Hi again again,

Thanks covert5 & Lily. Glad to know that I'm not the only one puzzled by this look.

I'm still wondering why they have her hovering in mid-space on pg 68. They used that trick before with a puffer a few catalogues ago. It makes the model look like Cirque-de-Camping!

Honestly, if the model looks ungainly & unattractive - what hope is there for those of us who live IRL? It certainly don't feel that I have to have that look!

Also, Lily, which thread did you post on earlier? I'd like to read your comments.

    Thanks,

    Heather:D

  69. Cleo26 - I tried the Penny Jacket on in the store and my sister said I looked like a poodle. Maybe it's because I tried on the one in ivory. Black might be a better option but I agree with Slastena that it is boxy and not form fitting.

  73. Those who have long had the Snow Leopard Peacoat--and obviously LOVED it (from the many wonderful comments)how have you been wearing it casually? Have I missed FFM's styling of this and is there something fun and unexpected that you all have done wearing it with jeans? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anon @ 1:05, please scan in the Dec. catalog & send to Alexis for your fellow Aficionadas… I am really needing to see the new stuff! I have called the stores close to me & none would say that they have received them. One SA was trying to tell me that the recent Nov. II is the only one for Christmas. I told her that wasn't right & she was definitely offended!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  75. For all who have a JCrew card...I received a 30% off card to use as much as I want between now and Dec 31 (I called my PS and he said that this is actually true). I hope you all get yours too!!!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anon @3:18,
I hope all card members get one!!! That sounds awesome!!! I'll be waiting by the mailbox...

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anon @ 3:18, do you usually get stuff from them, spend alot, etc.... I know you have a PS so just trying to gauge the likelihood of getting one myself. :) Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yeah seriously how did you get that? Did it come in the
    Mail?

    ReplyDelete
  79. I also thought they were offering an additional 50% off to get rid of excess stock-since that's not the case, they should have just emailed us with "we added more items to our sale section" .

The girl in the catalogue (the blonde bride) does look a bit unhealthy (read:anorexic)...I think Slastena pointed that out a while ago. Instead of focusing on JCrew items in the catalogue that she is wearing all I could think was "OMG, this is unhealthy" :(

Covert5: please do keep exercising your critical thinking skills on this blog because blogs like this make us smart shoppers ;)

cleo26: Penny jacket in size 4 was huge when I tried it on. I ended up buying it in size 0. It's not as fitted as shown on the website (mannequin) but I honestly don't think it's too boxy either. I love it, it can be both dressed up and down and I love the length (it looks a bit longer on me than on the model, I'm 5'5").

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yeah, I call bullshit on that 30% card.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I also got my 30% off card in the mail! My PS said that only certain clients get these. She gets to pick 3 clients of hers, and I am one of the lucky ones.

    ReplyDelete
  82. covert5:

I love all your posting about JCrew, because you say a lot of what I already felt.

And I can't believe some people (or really one person) would confuse your criticism against JCrew as criticism against themselves (or herself really). Maybe that person is a JCrew employee. Who knows. But I do hope you will gently *ignore* such irrational comments.

    ReplyDelete
  83. This article is about Abercrombie, but I think it might be what the folks at JCrew are thinking... they'd rather take a hit on the quarter than diminish their brand by taking deep, deep discounts. I don't shop at Abercrombie, but back when I did, I don't remember them having the promotions that other stores have.

  85. What does everyone think about the quality of JCrew jewelry? I'm thinking about getting a couple of pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Love the sale. I agree it's not the best sale I've ever seen, but a few of the items I've been coveting finally went on sale. For one, the Sharkskin skirt. I just got it in the mail a few minutes ago and love it to death! I got it in the dark eggplant and it is stunning. I want to be buried in my new skirt it's so gorgeous. I can't wait for a holiday party so I can wear it. Get one while you can...%69.99 is a deal on this beauty!

    ReplyDelete
  87. anony @jewelry

This has been discussed many times on this blog.

IMO the quality is poor for the high price and the pieces are really large...you can get the real thing (silver) or very nice costume jewelry or vintage for much less elsewhere....

    ReplyDelete
  88. I just got the Francie skirt in bright papaya for $55 with my student discount, I've tried it on before and it has a really great feel and look to it - $55 is a great price imo.

    ReplyDelete
  89. anon @4:13,
I'm not sure if you have to go to a B&M to get a PS, but I *supposedly* have one, yet she's never called me. Given that, I'd also like to know the answer to your question...

    ReplyDelete
  90. Ladies who received the coupon- How are you suppose to redeem it? Is there a unique code, do you have to call for a price adjustment, or is it in store only?

    ReplyDelete
  91. does the 30% off come from a specific store like the party invitations or does it look like the $25 rewards cards do?

    that's super cool.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Anon 4:20-
IMO JC jewelry is only worth the price when it is on sale. I feel the prices for most of their pieces are insanely high given that it’s costume jewelry. I have read other Aficionada say that the stones have fallen out or that the enamel is wearing/ flaking off their pieces. Don’t get me wrong, I love most of the JC jewelry- except that willie snake bracelet thing, I just can’t bring myself to pay FP. I think I have about 12pieces and I got them all on sale. Unlike some of the other items (clothing) that JC carries, I get the feeling that carry a lot of the jewelry in their inventory and therefore it usually gets marked down at some point. I get compliaments every time I wear my JC jewelry if that means anything.

  94. TRIXIE HEELS-
If you are a sz 6 there is still one pair of black/white/yellow bow Trixies on sale. I know they still aren't cheap (maybe that tiny sz 6 will make it to a super sale) but if you are some of the other larger sizes there is still orange floral pattern. Can I tell you I wore these (brilliant orange)the other night for the first time and was in a multitude of places so that I ran into various people. I have never had so many people compliment me on my shoes-ever!! I think people just love that element of surprise and the pattern picks up so many great things that one can wear on top. I had on dark matchstick jeans and a watercolor patterned Lydia with Royal Violet Jackie and white jeweled flower belt. Just to let you know..they really are super cute:)

  95. OT-ANYONE NEED BRAS/UNDIES/SPANX??
Figleaves.com is having HALF OFF EVERYTHING! Unheard of..can usually get free shipping by googling coupons, plus no tax. AMAZING DEALS-they have every brand and size--even the unusual size;)

    ReplyDelete
  96. I just went to figleaves and did not see 50% off everything?? hmm...do you have a special invite or webpage or code?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Okay that is weird--i got a email taht linked me to it but to help out, I googled figleaves and clicked and it says all half off right there on the front page.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Even swimsuits and mens stuff as well!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I tried googling figleaves but don't see the 50% off...your computer must recognize a link or something....I don't know...at least I tried. I was thinking Spanx...Thanks anyway for checking????

    ReplyDelete
  100. anon at 5:42, I went straight to the site and it says 50% off all over it. maybe it's cached in your computer or something? you could try another browser, i don't really know how this caching business works, but it's worth a shot...

  101. Oh, I think i may have figured it out...I live in the UK and even though I type in figleaves.com it automatically takes me to their UK site where nothing is on sale like in the US...I don't know how my computer knows but I can't get to the US site...bummer...BIG bummer! I would have it shipped to my parents...oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I got to the US site:) Played around a bit...

  103. anna - i've been eyeing the dark eggplant sharkskin skirt so i was glad to read someone got it and it's as pretty as it is in the picture! i was thinking of getting it for a holiday party too... just curious what would you wear for a top?

  105. I was just wondering about which model some of you were talking about, who had the bizarre hair? Is this the Nov II catalog? Or a newer one? Just thought it might be funny to check it out...Another question: So if your PS chose you as one of their favorite customers you might get the 30% discount or do you have to be a JC credit card holder as well? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Nov 2 catalog--I don't love the hair in the face on p.40--also so unusual to have spearmint facing spearmint on those 2 pages. Hillbilly on p.68 So strangely disheveled on p.73--nice shoes with that mess of an outfit??

    ReplyDelete
  107. At 6:58 Eastern Time, the web site is down.

Also, the Men's sale section has been very disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hi Anon 6:47,

I'm one of the folks gossiping about the styling in the latest catalogue.

Yep, it is Nov 2, the one with the ladies snuggled under a blanket on the front. The photos in question were on pgs 68 & 73. Most esp. pg 73. The poor thing is trying to work an outfit composed of the Heloise houndstooth coat, slim stretch shirt, MENS sweatpants (as cut offs) plus accessories including: polka dot heels, an Odile bag & unidentified necklaces. Needless to say, it's a lot of look. An awkward pose, semi-tucked shirt & frizzy braid don't help.
The other shot involved a lot of menswear paired with more casual women's pieces, so it wasn't (quite) as bad a disaster as pg 73.

Now this isn't to say that she isn't a good model. She looks downright adorable in a few shots like pg 70 with a ruffled top, skirt & cute, cute, cute shoes. Also she completely rocks the outfit on pg 77 & makes me want to try the Carrie coat right away.

Mostly I'm curious about the randomness of it all. I know that the designers put a lot of thought in each season's look. I'm certain that when they designed the fall/winter line it was with an intent that everything went together harmoniously. So, why the crazy photos?

    Ah well, don't worry JCrew, I have my frazzly days too :}

    Heather:D

  109. Hehe...thanks everyone for clarifying the model's look. I checked it out and it indeed is a little (=a lot) out of place:)

  110. Can anyone comment on the comfort of the Owen hobo bamboo handle? Does it kind of dig into your shoulder after a while, especially if you load up the bag with a lot of stuff? Also, is it painful/uncomfortable to wear the bamboo handle on a sweater or unpadded shoulder?

    Thanks!

  111. I think J Crew might be seriously feeling the economic difficulties right now... somebody from the company just left me a phone message reminding me to spend my rewards card before it expires! They've never called me for anything like that before.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I tried on the Penny and the size 4 was huge ~ did not fit like shown in the catalog; don't know if they pinned it in back to get that shot. The size 2 fit much better, but it was almost like a 'swing' type jacket fit.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Does anyone know if b&m is having any additional % off this weekend?

    ReplyDelete
  114. I cruised through the comments and hope i am not repeating. The J.Crew at Friendship in DC is having a storewide sale of 20% off until Sunday. Sweaters are also 20% off, and they do accept the student/teacher discount.

    ReplyDelete
  115. anon @ 5:58: www.figleaves.com/us/.

sanfranciscoca and anon @ 8:14 pm: I finally tried on the Penny jacket. I was surprised at how ample it was i the midsection, definitely more like a swing jacket than the fitted, tailored look you see on the site. For J. Crew to have shown that effect, the jacket had to have been pinned at least one inch.

Though i couldn't size down because of the shoulders, i was able to wear my "normal" suit size, and i wasn't in between sizes for once. I thought the jacket was cute, a nice mid-weight. Still trying to figure out how i might wear it as i think it looks best closed (because of its swing effect). Opened, i simply swam in it. Also, i'm still trying to decide if i like the bracelet length sleeves.

  116. Just came from Montgomery Mall, MD store. Sale was not exciting, but some of the new merchandise is out. Glimpsed at new catalogue- was not impressed much.Tried few new thing, don’t know the names yet:
    - Collection wool/cashmere swing cardigan with sequins; cute, but again- cropped sleeves, boxy fit, price $268- not sure I want it;
-Merino-sequin chiffon shell- LOVE it, got it in putty ( item 99843 $148)-truly magnificent piece in terms of fit and craftsmanship. Liked that the sequins were only on the front, not in a back. Kept this tank simple( vs head to toe glitter.)
    - new sparkling gold/turquoise checker tweed jacket- another cropped/bracelet sleeve jacket, at over $250- I would say blah..
-tissue sequin tank (item 10561 $88)in champagne, cute, but runs huge and puffs up at hips; looked like I have extra wide hips. would not get it at full price. Would look awesome on super skinny girls!
-Dream Simone cardigan ( item $158- was originally on my wishlist, happy to report that I crossed that one out from wishlist ( my happy J Crew credit card), tried in Navy in Small and did not like real life look at all.
My store had 20% off sweaters: merino sequin shell qualified) and addt'l 20% off $150 purchase. Student/educators discount was not qualified. Was told the cash register would not take it ( like I haven’t heard that one before), not true, b/c in similar situation it went through just fine and apparently Friendship Heights store in DC is doing it no problem. Just another example of how is everything up to sales clerk and store manager. I remember FH store was the one who originally did not accept st/ed. d/c in addition to sales and I had to fight arm and leg to get it, he he..:)
Anyway, since I only bought the shell and couple of belts , I Idid not argue. The total d/c brought the shell from $148 to $90 smth.
I have some pics at my blog if anyone interested.

  117. BTW- no 30% off card in my mailbox.. Doubt I will get one, would have been nice...

thanks for the pics on your blogsite. always excited to see new arrivals. the shell looks great on you!

  120. No 30% off in my mailbox either. Booooo!

I did however receive a F&F for Martin and Osa. 30% off from 11/14 to 11/23. The online code is 20119061. Free shipping and returns.

  122. Outfit on page 73 is what I look like when I jump out of bed to rush the kids to school in the morning. Just add red eyes and dark circles....

I mean REALLY. What is JCrew trying to sell us on page 68 and 73?? HOBO FABULOUS?

    JenG.

  124. slastena, i agree too that sequined shell is fabulous! looks great :)
thanks for sharing the other pics too.

  125. I"m not going to believe that this supposed 30% coupon exists until a non-anonymous person verifies they've also received it. Until the end of the year? That doesn't even make sense. You'd think it would at least have an expiration of Christmas. I can't see JCrew giving another 30% on top of what are sure to be sale prices on stuff beginning December 26th.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I checked w/the PS and there's no such coupon. Good try anon, quit printing off fake coupons for yourself...loser.

  127. Slastena,
What jeans are you wearing in your pics? Are they the JCrew matchsticks? They look AWESOME on you and I love the wash!

  128. The B&M I visited in my area (LOs Angeles) didn't have anything exciting...I might stop by another location if I happen to be nearby, but I think I'll wait until it gets closer to the holidays to snatch other better deals...

  129. OT: I think this question was asked last week, but I cannot find the post with the answer...does anyone know what the *mark* in the inside of a pair of shoes *to prevent returns* implies? Are the shoes from an outlet or regular B&M? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  130. Kate Spade has an additional 30% off sale items for today only. Some good bargains!

    ReplyDelete
  131. Hi FFM - I believe that the line indicates that they're retail store returns, or maybe they've come from the distribution center store - the line is so they cannot be returned to a B&M for credit. Otherwise, they are fine shoes - I have several pairs of JC "black line" shoes off of eBay and they were all in great condition. Which style are you looking into?

Just as an aside to anybody looking at any kind of "metallic crackle" shoes, I got a pair of the Vivian slingbacks new off of eBay and I know they're supposed to crackle for that "vintage" look, but the metallic finish completely wore off the back of the heel after wearing them twice with trousers, making them look kind of odd. The Claudia shoes look darling, but I fear the same kind of thing since they have the crackle finish on the heels as well. Buyer beware!

    ReplyDelete
  132. FFM: When I visited the J Crew clearance store in VA, all merchandise had the mark through the labels or shoe soles. It's my understanding that this is returned catalog merchandise being sold at a lower price and the mark is so that buyers cannot return them to the regular B&M. I haven't confirmed this, but this is my suspicion.

    ReplyDelete
  133. THANK YOU silver_lining and gg! I am looking at the Juliet Safari Midheels. :)

gg: How much are the clearance center markdowns? Are they significant enough to warrant a visit if you are nearby?

  134. Just got my cashmere cardi in light spearmint that I ordered online. Love the color but the quality is very poor. It has 2 little gray specks woven into the cashmere right on the front and a few other places just the same on the arms...I am trying to pick them out with my fingers but for a $168 sweater this is the pits! I think I will be returning it. Very disappointed. JCrew cashmere is really bad news:( I was really looking forward to this color of sweater...

  135. RL Rugby also has some additional items on sale today.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Wow, Banana Republic had a fabulosity sale ~ addl 20% off sale items,+ 30% for friends/family ~ got two cute dresses for way cheap!!! Lots of people were in the store, then went to JCrew across the street, pretty barren in there...just sayin.

    ReplyDelete
  137. anon 7:25 - You might want to try the Cambridge Cable cardi in the Light Spearmint it is cheaper than the cashmere, it is soft, not itchy and the quality is good.

    ReplyDelete
  138. casual-crew,
Thank you so much for the suggestion! As you can tell I was WAY DISAPPOINTED in the spearmint cashmere cardi--I will return it ASAP and try the other:)

I am through with trying JCrew's cashmere...it is too expensive and the quality is lacking. I bought 2 cash cardigans years ago and they were nice but not so nowadays:(

    ReplyDelete
  139. I bought the crackle heels in silver. I've tried them on but haven't worn them out yet. A card is included in the box basically saying the "crackle" comes off and will make it look more vintage. But a bag is included to store the shoes in. I'm not sure about that. I definitely like the color, but I think I'd prefer something that could take a little bit more wear. I just bought the shiny metallic belt in silver and would prefer something like that- the silver color, but not worry about it coming off.

  140. Anon @10:17 pm;
The sehll also comes in "honey", similar to honey glaze. I saw pic of it, buth they only carried "putty" in stores.

the pants are stretch matschtick cords in faded cement. I am a big fan of J crew matchstcks of recent, thier cut is more of a straight leg vs skinny leg which makes these cords suitable for variety of figures.

  143. Slastena,
I'm so jealous! I tried to use the 20% off sweaters on the sequin shell and was told no (they said "sweaters" have a sleeve). Bummer, I couldn't justify the $148 but I would've caved with 20% off. Anyway, it looks GREAT on you...good buy!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Slastena - love the outfits on your blog! You're right, the Merino-sequin chiffon shell does look stunning on you! But I also really like how you paired it with the gray wool/cashmere swing cardigan with sequins. I think both look really cute on you!

Anything good new or on sale at Tysons?

    ReplyDelete
  145. i just called the south park store and all they are doing is 20% off full priced sweaters (so not on the 99 promo cashmere ones)
and they are not doing the 20% off a purchase of more than 150. booo.

  146. i thought there used to be some regular posters from the Charleston store... does anyone know what the Charleston store is offering?

  148. 20% off everything at the Georgetown store! Pentagon City SA's didn't mention it when I was looking around.

  149. I got the boucle Penny jacket on friday at U Village Store for 159 minus 20 percent. Then on Saturday I took it to another JCrew to see a size 4 and I returned my original size 6 and got the size 4 for 80.00!! Yes, there was a 50 percent off 159.00 sale price. So if I hadn't gone to the other store I would not have gotten this deal. I think some stores have different promotions b/c the other Jcrew store didn't have the 20 percent off on Friday.

I haven't been to Tyson's recently and I don't know when I will go there. I got new Holiday 08catalogue and sadly report that there is absolutely nothing in it that I want. I perused it at least 3 times,thoroughly...:(

  152. Just went to the Rockefeller Plaza store in Manhattan, and no additional % off sale items. Dissapointing because there was a good selection.
