J.Crew Email: Hands Down Favorites

J.Crew sent an email today with the subject line "Hands down favorites." Although the rings are very pretty in the image, I always have to see (and try on) J.Crew's jewelry in person. Unfortunately, J.Crew jewelry (as of lately) can be really massive in size (even though it may not look that way in their images). The size of their jewelry (especially the rings and bracelets) can make wearing the pieces very difficult for day-to-day activities (like when I am working). ;) I should also add, that I do like most of J.Crew's jewelry. :)

J.Crew is also reminding us about their Fall sale. I would be more excited about the Fall sale if there were more sale merchandise available. (Is it just me, or has J.Crew not been maintaining the sale section as much as before?) ;)

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's recent additions to their jewelry collection? Are their any pieces that you are currently lusting over? Did you purchase any pieces, if so which ones and how are they? :)

  1. I did not get this email so thank you for posting it. I however do not care for JCrew jewelry...not only is it large in size but in my opinion every piece that I have either bought or seen in person is just not up to par quality wise. The only pieces of JCrew jewelry I have ever kept in the past 3 1/2 years are either sterling silver and the tortise link bracelet and earrings.

  2. I saw the giant starburst ring (11170) in b&m and it is *very* striking. I can see it catching the light in a beautiful way at a cocktail party. Yes, it's huge, but I like big rings. The art nouveau ring is bigger than these new rings, imo. I tried to link to J Crew for the art nouveau ring and I didn't find it. I *did* find the optical print mini (93917) size 8 only and the chevron striped trouser mini (90960) size 8 & 12 only. Most of the sale items are still hidden. Boo on Crew for not fixing their website after 4+ months!

And finally, I blogged on the $70 twisted crystal necklace which I haven't seen for purchase on the web yet.

  3. Well...I haven't mastered linking to other pages. Sorry if the links I put up above don't work. You can visit my blog Gigi's Gone Shopping through my username or here on the J Crew Aficionada home page under the blog list. The twisted crystal necklace on 10/26/08 and the art nouveau ring was the next post after that.

  4. I got this--I actually like these rings and I agree with gigi-very pretty for cocktail ring--still too pricey for me to wear just once in a great while. I am bad about using costume jewelry though so that's why the $ is a lot. I might wear it twice and then forget and that's a lot per wearing. Also, I would have some concern as I agree and find the quality is not up to par.

I loved the garden floral version of this ring.

I have to add here--I saw the jenna gold link bracelet in person and I seriously almost fell over--it was the BIGGEST thing--I mean WAY bigger than you would have thought from the image on your computer or catalog. It had to be 2+ inches per link--it was just so over the top. That had to be the point but that is just not going to be for the average person. It was very Mr. T-sorry for those who have it--you go girls;)

  5. BTW-the sale section is just down to nothing and everyone is so over it. What's the deal? When are they going to move some of the old, very early Fall stuff in there?? Did anyone notice the sweaters that were on sale though when you went directly to the full price page versus the sale section. That is bad on their part because those just looking at sale items would totally miss them! They really don't have it together yet. I think shipping and inventory is FAR better but these kinds of web things are still not working and/or haven't been thought out very well.

Last--wth is this in the sweaters sale section "Toulouse sweater jacket" that thing looks painful to wear.

  6. I was able to get the wavy glass bead necklace in guava yesterday morning. I had been wanting it for a while so I was glad to see they still had a few left. Seemed like there were more items in the sale section yesterday.

Thanks for posting the email Alexis as I had not recieved it!

  7. I think the rings are very pretty, but I rather spend the $ on clothes and buy costume jewelry at H&M or Forever 21. I am waiting for my argyle hoodie to arrive. Interestingly, I did a search for "argyle" and found it. As with other items, they don't show up with general searches.

  8. Is this happening to anyone else? Twice now I have filled my cart, left the computer for 10 min, come back and it is gone!! How frustrating.

  9. I bought the Taj Mahal crystal ball necklace online last week. It's a piece similar to one of Kate Spade's new jewelry pieces for $100 less. Hopefully I'll love it!

  10. Sorry OT-
Does anyone have or ordered and returned the Sparkle Tweed Pencil Skirt due to finding it fits perfect everywhere but then cups their butt? That 's the best explanation I can find. I am bummed about this fit issue--I LOVED the skirt. I then looked at the model on the web when it was back up in the sale section and it fit her the SAME way. It fits great everywhere but sucks in around the butt and doesn't look good. Really wanting to know what others experience with this has been. Thanks!

  11. The rings are a so pretty but I think I would only wear them to a cocktail party. They are too big for me to wear all day and would drive me nuts.

I love BRs costume jewelry- just bought the fireworks ring. It's a little smaller than starburst ring from JC, not to mention cheaper. Looks much better in person than in the picture.

I'm pretty much over the sale section.....

  12. The sale section is in serious need of updating. I haven't even wanted to check J Crew today because I know that it will just be the same old, same old. Blah.

BTW...I think these rings are so beautiful, but my hands and finders are so tiny that nothing fits!

  13. I feel like I would hurt myself or someone else if I wore a ring this big!

  14. I think these are beautiful! I really love the 10K gold Boule ring with the black stone in the Fine Jewelry collection, but I'm afraid to spend that much money on it because in person it might look too big for everyday wear. If anyone has seen it IRL I'd love to hear your opinion?

  16. I really liked the crystal flower earrings until I saw them on one of the JCrew SAs in the store-the earrings were so big they were stretching her earlobes a lot (it wasn't a pretty sight)

I also have a JCrew charm bracelet, I haven't worn it yet since the charms are so big I can't type on my laptop while wearing it :(

I do LOVE the bangles (I have two zebra bangles)- when I saw it in a store, it was actually smaller than I thought it would be. I wore it just recently and when I looked at the pictures we took, it looked really cute on my wrist and it stood out (I wore my black hoodie and my ringspun beaded Buon Viaggio graphic tee) After I wore the black one that time, I also bought it in slate.

  17. You know that photo shop website that captures and makes comments about the screw ups companies make with photo shop? I don't know the name but this has to be one...I bet the model would not be happy to see herself looking like this... I mean check out her legs in the full body shot and then notice her foot isn't even in that tennis shoe on the right-ahhh:0

  18. i agree about the sale section- i think part of the problem is the new format (and the glitches that are part of it, including the fact that i often place something in my shopping bag only to find it's gone minutes later, and the fact that i find something on sale, click on it to buy it only to find that the price posted is wrong, or the merchandise isn't there). i think the other problem is that the sale stuff seems old- at this point, i really don't want to buy summer clothing (i live in new england) so sleeveless dresses are out of the question. i find myself shopping on sale less and less.

one of the questions i've been interested in is whether the prices have gone up generally for merchandise- seems to me that things are a lot more expensive at jcrew than even a year or two ago. it's still my favorite store, and i'm not complaining, but i definitely find myself holding back a lot more than i used to.

  19. This is strange: this morning I got a call from my local Jcrew store inquiring if I'd gotten my holiday rewards card. They also gave their phone # in case I wanted to set up a personal shopper appt.

Did anyone else get this call? Is it another one of Jcrew's attempts to attract business without actually lowering their prices to reasonable levels?

  20. J. Crew distributes lists of its cardholders and their reward amounts to the stores that you shop in and encourages SA to contact those customers to encourage them to use their rewards card before it expires. They have been doing this for awhile.

  21. Amy: I got a call like this last week from my local store. They tried to pass off my rewards card as a "gift for being such a great customer". Needless to say, I'm not going in...I just ordered online.

  22. I actually made my first ever J.Crew Jewelry purchase recently, and have to say I am absolutely thrilled with the items I chose...I purchased the Fireball Necklace in Cornsilk seen Here , and the Fireball Bracelet also in Cornsilk seen Here . I have worn them numerous times since I received them, and get tons of compliments on them. They are the perfect compliment for all of my Honey Glaze pieces, as well. I also purchased the Crystal Flower Earrings, and do agree with sanfranciscoca that they are indeed larger and heavier than what they appear to be on the website. However, I wear a product called EarLifts with them (seen here ), that hold the earrings in place and take the weight off of your earlobes. They work fabulously for not only these particular earrings, but also for any others that may give you issues!

  23. FFM: helpful as usual, thanks!

I might reconsider the earrings thanks to you, my wallet will not be happy about it :)

  24. Gigi, I finally bought the twisted crystal necklace and it is quite beautiful! I also bought another gold necklace. It rang up as the "crystal chain necklace" and has circular glass crystals between gold chains.

The starburst ring is gorgeous. I agree it would be hard to work with that on though.

  25. I am lusting after the cornsilk necklace. I WANT this necklace - just waiting for some kind of sale, promo, or coupon.

  26. i got the jenna bracelet this fall. it is HUGE, but i love it. it is hands down, the chunkiest item of jewelry i will ever own, but it is such a fun piece and i get tons of compliments on it whenever i wear it.

  27. I just bought the garden ring in black -- it's totally ridiculous but I love it. It's like having a giant sparkly flower meatball on your finger. I also got a bracelet that's not online. It's pave gold on one half, and a little wider than their thin bangles, and soooo sparkly and pretty. It catches the light like crazy and looks really expensive, kind of like a tennis bracelet in bangle form, but is only $88! Costume jewelry meets fine jewelry, kind of...

  28. IN STORE-I bought several gold stackable bracelets that have the pave diamond, honey glaze, pear green, soft blue, grey etc. sparkly stones/diamond all the way around. $14.99 plus addl 40%off-how can you beat it! Just like clothes on sale--jewelry is ideal on sale. It is SO fun to pick up a beautiful bargain...plus, if a stone falls out--it doesn't feel so painful to have to return/exchange the item you OVER-paid for!
