Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the WINTER sale, or to see some new WINTER/SPRING arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I have a couple things to return, but will probably do it mid-week.

Irl pics of the gimlet skirt in coaster stripe in this post.

  2. I live nowhere near jcrew, but am looking forward to some irl pics!

I am especially interested in the new rose co our in the pencil skirt and some thoughts on the new schoolboy blazers!

  3. I don't plan on going this weekend, but do look forward to reports from the JCAs who do visit.

  4. I might. I'd like to try a few things on and double check sizes and colors so I can get ready for the next online promo... Which, fingers crossed, happens soon. (are you listening, j crew?)

  5. No time to visit but I'm looking forward to hearing reports from other JCAs re: the new spring items.

OT, but has anyone seen the Albertus Swanepoel cloche (it was two-tone degradé grey wool, with a ribbon accent on the side)? It kept popping back but I haven't seen it recently. If anyone has one they no longer want, let me know, loulou7329 at hotmail dot com.

  6. I was at the Toronto JCrew yesterday and I have a post up today with a couple of reviews.
They didn't have all the new arrivals yet but there were lots of pretty things. I didn't buy anything.
The sale section was an extra 40% off but looked quite pawed over.

  7. I'll be down in Charlotte this weekend and will check out at least one of the J.Crew stores down there...maybe both Southpark and Northlake! Any Charlotte gals have reports on sale selection and/or new arrivals?

  8. Hoping to go by and make a return -
Jules Water Floral pink tunic/dress, Size 12 anyone?
I got this for 20% off. Will return it later this afternoon.

  9. I might pop into my other store to see if they got anything different.

Also, just posted some new arrival reviews!

Thanks for the pics ajc -- definitely some cute items not in my store yet!

  10. Probably not going. Hoping to hear the quality is decent for spring pieces though. Sub!

  11. Sadly, not this weekend. But I can't wait for others' reviews and IRL pics!

  12. WMM, I tried the new schoolboy blazer and I didn't love it. That's not to say that others won't feel differently. I actually snapped some pics in the fitting room, and am trying to work up the courage to start a little blog of my own. But for me, it's a very shrunken fit. I liked the shape of it and I'd say TTS, although it was snug under the arm pits on me, so if you're broader on top, you probably need to size up. But for me, didn't like the material and the wrinkling at all. I thought maybe it was linen, but it's a rayon something blend. Really loved the color, though.

  13. Yes, I have a couple of returns and I'd like to see what new items have hit locally. Will report back!!

  14. Jruby18,
Thanks for the review. Sounds like it would not be something that would work for me either!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Despite my rant on pricing yesterday, I will be checking out the spring selection in person to see checkout quality and sizing in case any of the big-ticket items I like make it to sale. There's so much prettiness!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. shopwithm: Thanks for letting us know that the background of the Heart Throb shirt is navy! I thought it was black/red and I have enough navy in my closet right now, so you saved me $135 ;)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thank you, JRuby18! Sounds like it is not for me either!

  18. I went last night and tried on some spring goodies. Hopefully, I can post reviews this weekend.

  20. JRuby: You should do the blog!! We are the same size and you have such good perspective, I always look for your reviews!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jruby18, I debated over starting a blog for several months and finally did it, over a year ago now. The community is so supportive and it can be great fun to put your own photos and commentary at length.

When I'm too busy or just don't feel like it, I always remember Gigi's post about frequency of blogging and that it doesn't matter if you post every day or every six months, especially since there are tools to help readers keep track of recent posts. There really is minimal expectation but there is a lot of appreciation, especially for reviews. Give it a try and see how it goes, there's no commitment. ;^)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Not me, I'm rather focused on clearing things out at the moment, rather than bringing more in. Sales have been piddling along on eBay, maybe things will pick up in February.

I also have a few skirts that I bought 2 sizes too big bc the price was right, so I need to have those taken in. Until I get that done, no more new stuff for me!

I'll add my voice to the chorus calling for JRuby to start a blog. I love reading y'alls blogs. I write for a living, so I don't think I could bear to do it on my personal time as well, but I'm very appreciative of all that all of you do to help me make informed purchases (and avoid bum ones).

  23. Jruby18: when you start your blog, let me know so I can add it to the JCA Blog Roll! :)

Alexis if this is OT feel free to delete.

I went to my B&M to check out the spring collection because they had an event and my fav PS was there. Here's my review of a couple of items.

  26. Jruby18: please start a blog!!!! Like xoxo, I debated starting mine for a long time. I am SO glad that I did. This community is AMAZING!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've debated starting a blog too... it's just so *scary* for some reason. Silly, I know. But sometimes when I wear one of my crazy J.Crew outfits, I just wish I could take a pic and blog about it since no one in my real life appreciates my double serge pencil skirts. Ha!

I am not going to J.Crew this weekend... it has actually been eons since I've been to a B&M.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You all are soooo sweet! I read everyone's blog here as well, which is what has spurred me to contemplate my own. I'm just so inspired by you all and your outfits but your thoughts on life and other things as well. So, I'm going to start figuring out how to do it and will definitely let you all know when I'm up and running!! Really, I feel so fortunate to have found this nice community online! <3

  29. J.CrewJD, I agree -- I tend to take criticism kind of personally, so the thought of putting my name on something out in the blogosphere is sort of scary to me. I feel like I would need to have something to say, something new to add to the discussions we have, to make it worthwhile.

And I don't know that I have either, at least with regard to the topic at hand. I can't style things the way so many of y'all seem to do so effortlessly. I have a closet full of amazing things and just seem unable to put them together to create unusual looks the way other bloggers do. I love to see people's OOTDs!

Someday I will find my niche in the online world, lol. ...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes, I'll be visiting the store to pick up a catalog and do some returns. Hope there are lots of new arrivals to drool over.

JCrewJD, I hear you! No one in my life wants to hear about my J Crew obsession and it kind of makes me sad. So thankful for all of the blogs! Wearing the wildcat scoopneck blouse for the second time with awesome J Crew jewelry and once again, not one comment or compliment. I think I look pretty snappy but apparently no one else "gets" the look. Whatever. J Crew makes me happy! If you have the time for it, you should start a blog!

  31. No visit. Two things I've been stalking popped up on the Sale Site on the 2nd major restock after the promo ended, and I didn't want to take any more chances. Funny, each time I put one of the items into the shopping bag, it blinked and when I clicked checkout, it was gone. Just gone. I assumed a shopper with better reflexes had grabbed it, but I tried one last time, got it! I've been waiting for The Dreaded ever since, but just got an email that both items have shipped. Whew. Now all I have to worry about is that the right items will be in the package! (Still traumatized by the shipment of a single rubber boot a few years ago...)

  32. shopalot, i wore my Wildcat Natasha yesterday and no one said a word to me either. i was surprised.

but i think it's because i wasn't styled appropriately. i'm too fat to fit into my persimmon double-serge skirt right now, so i got lazy and just wore it with jeans. and black flats. zzzzzzzzz. :P

    ReplyDelete
  33. I sauntered in after meeting a friend for coffee. Saw the pencil skirt in garden shade & now I know I won't buy it. Way too stiff & bulky, and it appeared wrinkled just hanging on hanger.

Peeked at sale section. Occurred to me that a sale section is actually a great way to judge a retailer, because if the items can't stand up to being handled for a month or so in a store, I don't think I want them. There was a sequin skirt that had so many loose threads, I can't believe it was on the rack.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I received a nice Big Envelope today from JCrew with my $25 rewards Card Yippie!! I might wait till they have another promo with free shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  35. jcrewjd and Elaine - you both voice my concerns about blogging. And I don't think I could ever come close the fab styling of the other bloggers - Dinagideon and shopwm - to name a few!!! But I like seeing a range of sizes so maybe I'll be able to add something. *fingers crossed*!! Have a great weekend everyone!!

  36. MacKenzie, I read your post and immediately ran to the mailbox. Hooray!!! Got my rewards card too. Just came from the B&M (B.C.--before card.) Atlanta perimeter has the Pullover Jackies (one of only 20 stores in the country to carry in-store.) Love. Bought the warm jade. Highly recommend to all.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Does anyone know if the stores are still running a % off FS? Contemplating a trip to do a red phone order... Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I went today and had so much fun! Many lovely things to look at. I came home with too many things, and will hope that I can reorder on a promo soon. I absolutely loved the silk heart print shirt, and bought it despite the price. I'm not sure that will make it to the sale! I will style it with a navy pencil but may order the matching skirt to see if it looks as cute on me as it does on the model! I took a size 2 which was consistent with the other silk shirts this season

Also bought the fanfare blazer, it was so beautiful and classic. Looks lovely buttoned up with a navy pencil skirt and a string of pearls. I had to size up to a 6 for it to fit confortably through the shoulders I came home with the candy tweed blazer as well which was stunning. So many pretty pinks blues and greens in the tweed! It looks niece with navy, grey and camel. I wish they made the matching skirt long enough to wear to the office. I took my regular blazer size 4.

Lastly, I also bought the stripe beige and navy boat neck sweater which looked very fresh paired with a white button down and navy pencil skirt. The Lillian dress was a no for me, not consistent with the sizing of previous dresses this season. The 4 fit nicely on top but was way to tight through the hips. So that may be tough on ladies with an hour glass shape.

Can't wait to see what comes with the next rollout next month! Looking forward to hearing what everyone else thinks about the new arrivals.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Bonnie Hooray for you!! So exciting isn't it?!?! :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wendy, B&M's are running 50% off at least through Saturday according to the SA in Atlanta.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I am planning on a trip to 2 B&Ms tomorrow. On principal I don't buy at 1 since the SAs are so snotty and the other is the best, call me by name etc. But want to see if they have anything different. I am hoping my rewards is in the mail so I can pair it with a Xmas gift card and make some purchases.

  42. jruby -- Would love to see you start a blog!! And thanks for the very kind compliment. :) I had no idea what I was doing for a while, but it's fun and you get into a groove after a bit. Let us know if you start one.

  43. Shopalot and others:

cannot resist jumping in for my two cents for you lovely folks who sometimes don't get compliments on your "looks". I used to think the same thing and then one day a colleague said to me: "You look great - it so intimidating to work with you because you always dress to the 9s and so stylishly". I was quite shocked! I think it is different in the blogsphere, as I am LOOKING for people who dress better/with more imagination as it is both beautiful to behold, but also so inspiring! But I think our average workplace is filled with ladies who want to do better but often don't know how and so stick to a very basic uniform and people that colour outside the lines is a bit much for them. My theory and there may be no basis of truth in it! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  44. WMM, I think you have something! Example: recently attended a memoriall service in another state, wore black pencil skirt, gray LS shirt, raincoat. 3 or 4 people commented they could tell I was from New York by my outfit. Another time I gave an outspoken relative a JC flannel shirt and a coordinating tee, thinking they'd be perfect for her internship in Idaho. No thanks, she said, too Eastern-looking and "will put people off." ??

I would add to your astute comment that an awful lot of women seem to think fit means only "I can get into it without pain," and proper fit is what makes a look. Otherwise, for good or ill, the outfit wears you, not the other way around.

    ReplyDelete
  45. J.CrewJD & Elaine: My offer goes to both of you too! When you start your blogs, please let me know so I can add it to the JCA Blog Roll immidiately! :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. JRuby, JCrewJD and Elaine, the comments xoxo is referring to are ones I made in this post. Bloggers tend to do a lot of unnecessary apologizing. It really doesn't matter how long you go between posts. Have an active email that you'll check. Respond to readers if they email you privately. And blog when you can. I never really notice if someone blogs each day. I only notice if they're gone for a really long time or don't respond if I email privately to check in.

A common apology is for photo quality. If you continue to take pictures you feel the need to apologize for (i.e. blurry), get a better camera. Otherwise, if we can see the basic colors & general details, it's enough. You're pretty much dealing with J Crew addicts and we take all the morsels we can get. As far as outfit creativity, there's a spectrum. Some professions require stripped down dress; not the creative layers we love. I like seeing all outfits because some simply remind to wear a top I haven't given love to in awhile.

I say go for it and don't overthink it. You naturally develop your 'blog voice' and focus over time.

  47. I tried on lots of items this morning. :) My favorite was the new lavender #2 pencil skirt (medallio print). It fits great (tts) and is machine washable. And I think it will be my last skirt in the purple family - four's enough, right? ;D I also bought the fanfare popover (size down). It was my favorite item in this print. I can wear it now with a cardi and later with the sleeves rolled up. I love the ripplestitch cardi in casablanca blue, but I couldn't buy everything! I sized down and the fit was great. The catalog says 3/4 sleeves, but the sleeves are definitely long (I had to turn the "cuff" up). I love the jules fanfare dress, although I do wish it was a little longer. If this fit my lifestyle, I'd be willing to pay full price using my rewards. However, it's a little dressy for my job, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for a sale. This was my first time to try on the jules style and I really liked it (which surprised me). I tried on the scallop skirt and confetti tweed mini - both are too short for me. The confetti tweed is so pretty though! I'm hoping they do a pencil in this. I saw the crinkle chiffon skirt and stripe taffeta mini, but neither appealed enough to try on. I love the contrast stripe tee in blue (size down) and will pick it up on promo or sale. Like I need more stripes. :) I didn't have a problem with the material of the schoolboy blazer but rather button placement. I need a slightly higher stance. I LOVE the royal Blythe blouse - gorgeous color! Again, on a promo or sale, I will have this even though it's a little much for everyday wear. The fanfare tunic is almost long enough to be a dress on me, and I liked it but I liked the popover better. I love the fanfare tank and again will pick it up on promo or sale. (How many fanfare items are too many?) I also picked up the poppy lipstick since so many here like it.

The sale section was pretty sad, but I did get the perfect ribboned tank in blue. And as others have mentioned, all sale gets packed up tonight and sent back.

    Sorry so long!

  48. Stopped by my store yesterday and tried on a few things. Scored the Stadium Cloth Boulevard Trench in Camel for $117 after discount.

The Tippi in Citrus Lime was a surprising love for me - didn't expect the colour to be flattering on my pale skin, but it was great! A bit sheer though so will require a cami.

Also loved the Lillian Dress. I took the same size that I took in the Teddie Dress (one size up from my suiting dress size) since I found it to be a bit tight through the upper back/shoulders. Lovely fabric and seems well made.

The Edie Attache Bag in Natural with the black handles is beautiful - very classic. The white is more of an ivory - very similar to the Oxford Ballet Flats. I'm not crazy about the lack of top zipper, but I will probably try to pick it up anyway.

  49. jruby18: You are too sweet! :) {Blush.} Thank you!

I would love to see you start a blog, even if other bloggers don't have my body type, once I start to see how things fit them, it helps me better choose what size would work for me, does that make sense?

It does take some thick skin, though. I have had multiple reasons over the past three years to stop blogging (negativity, etc.), but I work through it and brush off the angst (eventually) and keep going. I figure if out of a hundred folks, 95 like what I do and want me to keep it up, and 5 are "get away," I will keep going for the 95. :)

  50. So I visited 2 stores today. Tried on lots of stuff and ended up with a couple of new rollout items and ordered 2 others since they did not have them in either stores. I found sizing all over the map.
Cafe Capri-Morse Code Jacquard. I wanted to love these and did but sizing...I usually wear a 4 and was swimming in a 4, 2 was better but still big and a 0 was ok. Decided that I would wait and mull over these. I have lost weight but just can't imagine I am a 0.
Cafe Capri - Casablanca Blue, the color was amazing. 2 fit well, but not sure so still thinking about these.
The Ashbury Floral shirt looked great with this color but will wait and see if that goes on sale.
Jackie Pullover. Size S fit but it felt heavy to me and decided that I would not get as much wear from it. The colors were amazing though.
Boy Shirt in Indian Voile. Loved this in usual size 6. I don't like my shirts tight. Tried on the Bright Emerald which is very teal/turquoise and Neon Rose. Decided to get this in Classic Navy as in the catalog so ordered it from the red phone.
Nastasha Top - tried on for size in black in size 2 which is a size down for me and ordered in the Watercolor floral.
Always love the merino wool cardigans that J Crew brings out so tried on the Fanfare and Paintbox Floral. Decided on the Paintbox Floral, gorgeous colors but like a M and they did not have my size. So am holding out for my rewards to buy that.
Drawstring Dress in Atlantic..did nothing for me. It is a beach coverup and thought it would be a fun dress for summer but looked shapeless on me. I am 5' 1' so maybe better on a taller person.
Heart Throb Shirt, I saw it and thought it was not for me. I thought it was navy not black.
My hit of the day was the Boatneck Popover. I tried on Cerise Mist but I felt too orange for my coloring. The Apricot Navy, which is more Cream/Navy was beautiful. I sized down to an XS.
Contrast stripe tee - Frenchie Stripe on store receipt.
Purchased the Yacht Blue/Navy in S and then saw the Neon Peach/Pink and got that in XS. I felt the XS fit better. Definitely not Peach...J Crew is calling cream peach this year. I will take the blue one back, really don't need another blue striped tee.
For all you that purchased the Timex Ladies Traveller watch there are new bands. Got the Patent Leather Yellow and Black/Brown Tortoise Shell. YL5458 and ED0808.
In the 50% off scored a Waffle Tee in Navy/White for $15, it is still winter here and will be for quite a while. Plus a thin silver metallic belt for $9.

  51. Went to the store yesterday and picked up a few items:

Mona Patent Pumps in black. Perfect height and lovely round toe. Seems like they fit a bit small, so I rounded up 1/2 size.

Natasha top in polka dot. Fit is a little boxy, so I sized down and was surprised that a 0 fit. Looks great slightly tucked in to jeans to show a colored belt.

Italian leather stud belt in chili. Taking this one back. When I fasten it into the stud, the extra leather of the belt flops down and looks a bit sloppy.

Waiting for a re-stock of the sale items online and perhaps a discount on full-price merchandise before making any more purchases!

  52. I tried on a lot from the new roll out and loved many things. Ugh...my bank account is going to hate me. Not usually a fan of capri pants since I'm petite, but fell in love with the cafe capri pants in bright dahlia. Do these stretch much? They are a tad large in the waist, size down is tight in the backside and hips...not cute..ha. color is lovely!

I love all the new shorts that are out, but the prices...ouch! Love the new fanfare shorts, even with the long inseam. I usually stick to the 3" inseam, but these shorts are so slick!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I went to do some returns and took some more photos of new collection, includes Director dress, Heart Throb shirt and some more unreleased pieces, including new longer dress that many may like!

    See it HERE

    ReplyDelete
  54. ajc your review photos are great and I love your comments as well! I also love those Valentina pumps, I have the coral and the walnut leopard but I keep eyeing up the other colors hoping they'll go to sale.
I really like the leopard tea dress on you, it's very subtle and pretty, it would be sharp with a black clutch and little jacket or sweater!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thanks so much Dani! I agree, this dress would be great with a cardi or jacket. I only tried it to share with others, but I did like it a lot. ITA about the subtle print, that's the key here imo, at least until we get used to longer hemlines.
Btw, taking those pictures is quite an exercise in palm dexterity, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks for the review of the director dress, AJC. I was considering ordering it, but had reservations because it looks like it's high-waisted. Your comments back that up, so now I can save myself the trouble. Too bad, I love that pink color.

I was able to try on the candy tweed skirt that's just come out. Alas, found it too short for comfort. Would've bought it had it been a pencil skirt. Garden shade pencil skirt was bulky & stiff.

So I left J.Crew empty handed, which was cool as it meant I had my hands free to scoop up the snow that's falling so freely and prettily and hurl snowballs at unsuspecting neighbors :-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Shopalot, WMM & others,
Your comments made me smile. I think those of us who love JC & troll the blogosphere for how other JCAs style their pieces "get" it.

One day I wore my striped navy crepe de chine boyshirt under a striped navy & cobalt blue sweater, a la Marissa Webb (and I know you all know what look I'm talking 'bout!). And my well-meaning friend says, "Are you color-blind?" With a smile I reply, "No... does it look like I am?" as it dawns on me that the stripe-on-stripe look probably is a bit unconventional to her eye. Followed by a brief awkward silence until I laugh it off, no offense taken.

Lesson here: To the basic t-shirt & jeans wearing crowd, anything remotely styled like a JC catalog is "dressed up" while to the rest of us, it's just everyday J Crew casual.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh and I have to add that I love all the bloggers out there who so helpfully post their outfits and reviews. Many times I'll fall in love with an item online only to hear of quality issues, poor fit, etc. so it saves me the time and aggravation of even bothering to order it or go to the store to check it out for myself. Or I may originally think something is "meh" until I see how you've styled it and suddenly I must have that item!

Ok, enough of the OT blather. Just wanted to encourage whoever it was to go ahead & start a blog -- you know we'll follow!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Connor!

Too funny - I love that Marissa look!

I agree - sometimes we do stand out, and I love it!

  60. The lula leopard flats in the brown color were marked down to $39.97 at the factory store. Plus 30% off. Deal!

    ReplyDelete
  61. TXGirl14, I find the cafe capris to stretch out, and I have the same problem as you. The "right" size is too big in the waist, the size down feels small... I think they are just poorly made, honestly. It's too bad because the bright dahlia and warm jade are calling my name!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Crosspost from Factory thread:

Went to the North Conway, NH store today-- got the perfect shirt in blue maxi check and a jackie cardi in cobalt-ish blue. Also a pair of med- size gold-tone hoops. They had lots of ballet flats, scarves, the new jewelry, minnies ("winnies"), jeans, skimmer pants, button ups, pencil skirts, etc. Most items were 20-40% off. In the clearance section were a pair of blackwatch plaid pants, size 6, as well as dresses, some shorter skirts.

PS- The Banana Republic outlet had some really cute stuff, esp. a great selection of scarves!! I ended up walking out w/ four!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Thanks J.CrewJD! I ended up taking the cafe capris back and got the smaller size. The larger size streched out just as kept trying them on last night, so figured the small size would be fine. Plus, I still need to lose 5ish lbs. of holiday weight...ugh.

I fell in love with the postage stamp mini today, but was so sad to see many snags on the skirts already. Beautiful colors though...

    ReplyDelete
  64. AppGal: Thank you for posting the dressing room pics of you in the new Schoolboy blazer - I need lightweight blazers in GA but I was wary of the wrinkle factor (too casual for my office). I might try one of the darker colors now!

jruby18: About starting your own blog - go for it! If you're worried about internet trolls posting inappropriate comments, you can set up the comments section so that all commetns have to be approved by you first. That's how mine is set up. In my case, it's a precautionary measure so that I won't be tempted to follow up any nasty comments with immature things like: "Yeah? Your mom." Trying to be ladylike and gain inner poise, etc. over here ;)

And now back to J.Crew! :)
