J.Crew Email: Get private access to our most special Collection pieces

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Kelly, Irina &

The email announces a Spring/Summer new arrival event for February 6, 2012. They share:
Get your exclusive private access: We're giving you the chance (before anyone else) for 24 hours to pre-order styles from our Spring/Summer Collection LookBook photographed at our show during New York Fashion Week. Sign Up HERE.
Once customers click on the link, they are taken to a page to fill out their email address.

After they submit that info, they are asked to share this semi-secret pre-sale with their friends & family (by submitting their email addresses) and sharing it on their Facebook page.

I have not heard or seen this type of pre-ordering from J.Crew before. It will be interesting to see what it is like and how successful it is.

Did you get this email? If so, did you already sign up in order to check it out?

  1. I received a snail mail version of this announcement, but not an email. There are 2 large sheet printed on both sides - 26 looks for women and 20 looks for men. Also enclosed was a note from Jenna with a private 800# for pre-order.

  2. I received this email this morning, and I was kind of surprised, as I am not a cardholder. I would have thought this might be one of the 'benefits' of having the J.Crew card? Guess not.

  3. LOL, I'd like to sign up to remove myself from this list. I can't imagine how ridiculously expensive and unwearable these clothes are going to be. Congrats J.Crew, you've totally lost me in sequin land.

  4. Not a card member but I received both the benefit and spring preorder emails. I wish I knew their marketing strategy.

  5. I wish I knew their marketing strategy too. I'm a cardholder (who spends way too much at JC) and didn't get it... Hmmm. Maybe they're telling me that I spend too much. Yes, that must be it. Thanks J. Cew!

  6. I also received the email this morning. I don't think it is supposed to be for cardholders only though, at least it didn't say anything about it on the email I was sent.

  7. A J.Crew cardholder and didn't receive notice about this either. Not that I'd order anything even if I did!

Maybe they're primarily targeting regular big spenders? Those customers who regularly or occasionally pay full price.

  8. I got this email and I signed up because I'm curious. I would like to see how this works, and I must admit that I'm interested in what spring will bring. I have seen some previews and I'm more excited about a rollout than I have been in a long time. I've already preordered a bag through my personal shopper.

  9. I was at the b&m today, and the sa's had marked up a Look Book with the prices, dates available and how many of each collection piece were being made, and whether it was online, or collections stores, etc. The prices were astronomical!!! I had admired a pink top (shown with the 695.00 sequin skirt from the February catalog) and it was so overpriced...as were most items in that look book. So I haven't checked my emails today, but even if this were there, no thank you.

Other than that, there are dozens of beautiful items that I love in the new catalog. Love the greens and blues.

  10. Miss Cavendish posted a good point about this promotional strategy today:

It's just a marketing tactic to get more contact emails, so without entering at least one friend's name and email you cannot proceed to actually sign up for the invitation! That's low, since your friends might not WANT to be signed up for a retailer's newsletters!

  11. I received this email as well and I did sign up. I'm interested, although I know its going to be entirely too expensive!
ETA: I'm a cardholder but I'm thinking the email was sent to non cardholders as an incentive to sign up!

  12. I signed up this morning and did not enter any friends name. Was curious about whether or not I was actually signed up based on ThatDamnGreenDress's posting and so I tried it again and it said that I was already signed up. So don't think you need to enter other emails to be included. But that said, after reading about some of the prices I doubt if I will be 'preordering' anything.

  13. OK, so I got curious and they must have changed it from early this morning, since now you can not get past to submit without entering at least 1 name. That is really inappropriate and something that would have turned me off if happened this morning when I signed up.

  14. I entered just now without having to sign up anyone else. Maybe it's random.

  15. I signed up and for the friend used one of my other emails that already receives J.Crew promos although I've never used it for anything J.Crew-related. I'm curious to see the new looks but I've never pre-ordered and don't plan to this time either.

Suzy, I would love that sequin skirt in the pink but it is way overpriced at $695.

  16. Slightly OT, but I received something similar for Madewell via snailmail, and I've never received any kind of special offer from either store before. There are 33 looks all on one side of a large sheet that you unfold. I've actually put it up in my bedroom as I find the bright spring colours and pleasing arrangement of the looks very cheerful to look at. There are some cute prints on skirts, shorts, and dresses, but I will not be preordering as I can't afford anything at full price. IMO Madewell should lower their price points, particularly given that their target age is lower than J.Crew and so they probably don't generally make as much money as the target J.Crew demographic.

  17. I initially ignored this email because I am a super-bargain hunter and not likely to pre-purchase any collection pieces. I am a cardholder, so J.crew should've known that.

However, I decided to check it out when I read comments that said you HAD to submit a friend's email address -- that is too obnoxious to believe. I had to see if that was the case.

Yes, you DO have to submit a friend's name and email.

And I did: Mickey Drexler, mickey@jcrew.com.

  18. I wasn't required to put in a friend's name or email address to click submit. I went back to the email to verify that was the case.

  19. @ JCK: NICE ONE! Hats off to you :)

  20. I received this email and quickly signed up and I was not required to put a friends name or email address either ?

  21. yuck, I didn't get this email and I agree with all of you a sleazy way to acquire more email addresses. Don't they know that kind of stuff can turn off a loyal customer really, really quickly. Who wants to spend the time or sell out their friends?

Miss Cavendish--great blog, adding to my reader

  22. I just received a snail mail announcement today, also. No e-mail, though. But I never get e-mails from J.Crew. The snail mail version does make a big deal about it being associated with the card and contains my rewards card as well. I liked some of the looks but found it disturbing that no prices were listed. They say you can call a "private number" to pre-order but why do you have to call to find out how much it will cost?
