J.Crew {pants} Spotted in Marie Claire

A big "thanks!" to cuckoo4crew, who not only let us know about an item from J.Crew being spotted in the latest 2012 issue of Marie Claire, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The page features a yet-to-be-released pair of floral pants that retail for $298.00. (For that price, what are they made of?!?)

Mini Update: "Thanks!" to cuckoo (in this post) who let us know it is the Fresco Floral Sateen Midnight Green Cafe Capris (Item 60162).

It is a busy print, so it won't work for me. But I have no doubt that J.Crew will style it beautifully in their catalog, tricking me into believing I could pull it off. ;)

On a bright note, new arrivals are just around the corner. We should expect to see some new pretties this Thursday.

What are your thoughts on the pants from J.Crew? Do you like the print and style?

  1. Love that the $298 pants are listed as a steal. It's all about perspective, I guess!

Looking forward to the new arrivals on Thursday! And speaking of new arrivals, do you have any idea when Madewell's spring pieces that were recently previewed on your blog might be available??

  2. $298? Do they come with direct deposit slips to Mickey's bank acct?

  4. WHile I will not bite while it is at that price point, for me, it is all about the cut... I was gob-smacked for the leopard print jacquard capris and they fit very oddly - not at all like the floral ones or the safe capris. They would have required a visit to the tailor and for that price I was not biting! I think they are quite pretty but I could not wear these to work, so for a fun personal item, they are too steep!

  5. I would consider the print on a skirt, but wouldn't wear it on pants, and especially not at that price.

  6. Bet they match in quality to the $49 H&M pants being shown... I'd be interested in the print if it's also released in a pencil skirt, but doubt the quality will stand up to scrutiny. J.Crew has just become farcical in the prices it charges for cut-rate clothes.

  7. I think they are hideous. They remind me of something a little old lady would wear! And for $298... don't even get me started. They will wind up in the final sale section for $89.99, most likely.

  8. No no no no no! That much floral has no business being on pants, IMO. A skirt, maybe, but I can't imagine who -- other than a very young, tall, slender model -- could pull them off. And $298? Seriously?

  9. $298??? No thank you. I KNOW that I could never wear these, body type + age = NO!

  10. I've seen a photo of those pants styled with a peplum blouse of the same print. The outfit was actually quite nice, I thought. But, not the price....

  11. Shouldn't that have been in the April Fools issue?

  12. Soooo not for me. Plaid pants I will do and have several pairs but bold floral prints is someone else.

  13. Thanks Alexis for posting this! These pants are the Fresco Floral Sateen Midnight Green Cafe Capris #60162 as seen in the new catalog.
And yes, they are priced at $298--definitely would be a splurge for me. Although they are quite boldy floral for me, I bet if styled right, it would look rather nice.

  14. Laura Ashley, anyone?
a skirt maybe...but they're a bit to reminiscent of wallpaper for me

  15. I'm really annoyed that most of the unique pieces of recent collections are extortionately priced. Didn't used to be this way.

  16. I like the pants not the price! I missed out on the floral pants from fall/winter but I just can't see paying $298 for a pair of JC pants!

  17. Thanks everyone for your comments about these pants. I can't wait to see the other new arrivals! :)

Cuckoo: Thank you for letting me know what they are called! I updated the post with that info too.

  18. I am misliking J. Crew's most recent floral prints otherwise I would def consider floral pants. IMO, it's all in how you wear them. You kind of have to tough it up with a leather jacket or go crazy and pair with stripes. Otherwise it gets too matronly.

  19. @JCrewJD, my thoughts exactly! HIDEOUS. Matronly on anyone over 30. The only way I see this working is on a tall thin teenager or 20-something worn with irony with strappy F-me stilettos or tough high-heeled booties and leather jacket.

LOL, I sadly don't fit that demographic. If you can rock it, more power to ya!

  20. I grew up in the early 90s and had SO many pants like this. Eeek. In fact, I made a polyvore kind of making fun of the return of this trend.

However, I do have a soft spot in my heart for floral pants, but doubt that I will ever do the trend again. Would love to see others give the look a stab.

I do wear my Cherry Blossom pants a lot, but it may be because the florals are less obvious and the cut is very preppy.

The pattern here is far too big for me to wear anywhere near my thighs (and I probably shouldn't have done it as a teen, either, lol).

  21. Wow, on all accounts...I cannot understand the price point on these pants. I agree that a tall, very thin 20 something could pull them off with the right accessories, but how many 20 somethings have that kind of cash! I know I didn't. I think JC's "showing" during fashion week has given them an inflated sense of well being!
