Sneak Peek: What's to Come this Spring {thanks Slastena!}

A big "thanks!" to Slastena (check out her "Spring is in the air" post from her {amazing} About All and Nothing at All blog) who shared some more sneak peeks with us. {yey!} There is a little something for everyone in this batch of photos! Just click on any of the images to view them larger.

I am loving all the bright colors!!! (Especially since there is a blanket of snow outside my window. These images are a perfect pick-me-up.)

So many things I am interested in! Those yellow pants are gorgeous. I can't wait to see what other shades they will come in. I am also intrigued by the stripe jacket.

UPDATE: Another "thanks!" to AudreyBella (from the amazing "Life is Short...Buy the Shoes" blog), who shared more images of the catalog. Check out her "J Crew February 2012 Catalog" post for more!

What are your thoughts? Has your opinion on the upcoming line changed? Are you looking forward to the upcoming Collection?

  1. Very classic looks. I love that the chicness of it all!

  2. I have the latest catalog and there are lots of lovely items in it in bright colors. The heels in the last pic come in several colors and in ballet flats too. There is a silk flowy skirt I'm already obsessing over. I think the yellow pants are the Garment-Dyed Toothpick Jeans.

  3. My PS told me the other night that the cotton pencil skirt would also be in the succulent green colour shown on Tippi Sweater in the picture, as well as a violet colour and another yellow shade. SHe also said that the major Spring roll-out would be around Feb 27th

    I love these images!

Can you post some of the catalog?

  6. I agree, I think that those pants are the toothpicks.
I think I have to have the striped sweater!

  7. The colors look lovely and wearable. Animal-print has really achieved classic-forever status; I'm looking forward to seeing how they freshen it up for Spring!

  9. Thanks, Slastena! These make me feel hopeful. As to Spring bags, see this for a discussion of what I think will be the most knocked-off bag of the season.

  10. Dying over the crewcuts! My daughter NEEDS that skirt. Needs.

  11. I saw the orange polka dot crewcuts skirt this morning and it's adorable. Can't wait to see more. Thanks for posting these, Alexis and Slastena.

  12. Meh. Who wears yellow pants? Do people really want to look like a big ol banana walking down the street? I always wonder who buys these outrageous colors. And then who matches them with other outrageous colors. Like red on pink. I live in a big city and see young women every single day in my life, and I cannot ever recall yellow pants. Plus, how the hell many times could you wear them without being called Big Bird? Banana legs? Yellow pages? I'm thinking of ways to laugh about them now. Yeah, I know, SPRING COLORS, I get it. I don't think people can really pull it off unless they're being ironic or have some wacky personality to match. Blegh.

  13. The Crinkle Chiffon Skirt is adorable, a must-have for me!

  14. Hi Meghan!
Come visit us in South Florida - we wear all the outrageous colors - sometimes together :) Yellow pants, pink/red combos, Bring it on... BTW, we do it very tastefully. We love J Crew down here for that reason! The more bold colors.. the better.

  15. Lovely colors! I would love to try the yellow pants - not sure if I can pull it off though.

  16. I love the yellow pants too :)

  17. I love the yellow pants. I love pink and green and red pants too! Can't wait for spring :)

  18. I have the yellow cafe capris from last year (or was it the year before?) and I love them. And I've never been called names while wearing them, and I work with teenagers who are very vocal about what they think. :)

  19. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing some of the lovely new items in person. Thanks ladies (Slastena, Audrey, Alexis) for sharing these catalog images! :)

  20. Carolyn from Vancouver here...
    I have noticed a few JCA's have reviewed a striped tunic/swim suit cover up...but its not on-line ?
Do most B&M's carry swim/resort wear in store? I am wondering about many of the one pieces and sizing...would love to try in store.
Anyone have a date for J crew opening here in Van? Wonder if Jenna will come? I read that when the Toronto store opened...first in customers were given a gift...anyone ever been to an opening? are the any type of door crashers...I am guessing not but am curious... anyone care to predict or guess what J crew has coming up for us in the line of sale/promos ? carolyn

  22. On Friday, I received in the mail the Spring sneak preview booklet and I was very disappointed. While J. Crew has always pushed the edge with bold color and pattern parings, most of this stuff just looked bad...and reached the point of 'trying to hard' to be unique and random. I tried to look at the pieces individually and still was not very impressed. I also don't appreciate all of the baggy boyish shirts. IMO those only look good on women if they are (1) gorgeous or (2) have a chest that will still be apparent, even in a baggy shirt. There seems to be a lot of upheaval at J. Crew right now, especially with the President leaving and a certain person in a major creative role (apparently) dealing with a personal matter that almost always negatively impacts one's work life.

I hate to be negative because I've been VERY loyal to J. Crew since the mid-1990s, even through some other trying times. But I also can't hide my concern, not just about where J. Crew is going stylistically but also what seems to be happening to the quality. Some of the pieces I purchased from the fall and winter collection were consistent with what I've come to expect from J. Crew, but others just didn't get there. I found this year's wool to be especially problematic. The double serge was great, but some of the sweaters were a huge disappointment and the super 120s suiting has gotten as thin as it could possibly get.

  23. Thank you Slastena, Alexia and Audreybella for sharing the photos. Some interesting looks and I like that J.Crew is recycling some popular items in different fabrics and colors. I bought the blue basketweave pencil at the South Beach store on Friday and it is really gorgeous. I'm between 4 & 6 and the 4 fit perfectly. There was a lot of beautiful colors in cashmere, shorts, tees and they had the Tippi in new colors too.

One thing I wanted to try, the stripe sweater skirt was not in store and the SA said she wasn't sure they would get it. Has anyone else tried this one?

I did pick up the cotton v-neck in abstract blue and the space-dyed cardigan. Originally I tried these two in my usual size M and they were huge so I skeptically tried a S in both and the fit was much better. It's a bit tricky with the slouchy silhouette this season.

I have to say that I did not see a single person wearing yellow or other brightly-colored pants or capris in Miami/South Beach but it's still winter right now. Maybe in spring...

    ReplyDelete
  24. With the yellow popping up, I'm hopping this means the yellow chino shorts will make an appearance this spring. I missed getting them a few months ago and I so regret it.

Can't wait for the spring clothes...and warmer weather! Puts me in a happy mood.

  25. I am always skeptical about those colored jeans. They only look good on certain body type, and I am just too d for that trend

    ReplyDelete
  26. jessie, I agree with you on the colored pants, they are very trendy and for that reason I won't buy them from any brand.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lol xoxo, , I have to admit that I did try couple of them, but they look horrible on me! Did you have fun in Miami, I lived there for 5 years and Lincoln road is one of my fav spots

    ReplyDelete
  28. jessie, Miami is a lot of fun and it was wonderful to escape the cold Canadian winter. We walked all over the place, I really enjoyed Lincoln Road and was happy to visit both J.Crew and Madewell. Staying at the Mondrian on West Ave is so convenient and far enough from the beach/strip so it's fairly quiet and Whole Foods is right around the corner. It was not exactly quiet every day though, the Lakers were staying at our hotel mid-week so the pool and bars were hopping. Interesting people watching!

  29. Re. yellow pants, I have the garment-dyed version of the jeans from 2007 and I wear them every spring. I always receive compliments on them and honestly they don't remind me of bananas (it is a light yellow, not a banana yellow).
Anyway, I think that the neon colors are tougher to wear in the city and I have never seen anyone in the street wearing neon azalea this winter, despite all those neon -y offerings.

  30. CAROLYN from Vancouver here
Are swim suits available in store ? Thanks

  31. Re colored denim -- I have to admit that I LOVE these and I have lots of colors (but none from JC) -- blues and reds, purple, pinks, and just recently yellow (which is my least favorite). I feel like these end up just being like (and looking like) any other color pants (except casual obviously), except that I am partial to denim b/c it is so much easier to care for than any other fabric. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think that they need to be a passing trend and even if they are, I will continue to wear anyway!

  32. Yellow has been my favorite color since I was a little girl but I simply cannot stand the neon-y yellow of the garment dyed jeans. Not all yellows are made equal. The only neon I would even consider, from what J. Crew's offering, would be the Neon Azalea color, and only because it works so well with Navy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh and why don't they have red jeans?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Carolyn, not all of them but yes they have swimsuits in the stores. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Carolyn, the South Beach store had swimwear and I've also seen it in several California stores as well as Lenox mall in Atlanta but the selection is always limited to a few styles IME.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Carolyn - I don't think I've ever seen one pieces in the Seattle area stores. Occasionally they get bikinis.

  39. Thank you for sharing scans of the new catalog ladies! I am excited for the next major rollout and catalog. I always feel like January is a little low key in terms of offerings but i am still recovering from the December shopping binge anyway. I LOVE the look of the woven pumps and flats and will be picking up a pair of those I think. I also like the look of the heart skirt and blouse.

I think the dyed jeans are super cute esp. In the green. Bring on COLOR!

  40. xoxo, my striped sweater skirt is slated to arrive tomorrow. I have high hopes and will report back.

  41. Regarding the colors - colored pants, neons, etc. If I love it, I wear it. I don't really look around to see what other people are wearing. To quote Coco Chanel,
"The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!”

    ReplyDelete
  42. So many pretties! Ahhhhhh! Thanks to all who shared. Looking forward to seeing some of these items in stores soon...

  43. Amy, I can't wait to see what you think of it. It looks navy/ivory but the copy says navy/beechwood so I'm guessing it will be more brown than white. Still interested though, thanks in advance for your comments!

  44. So far loving the Jules dress in the b&w Fanfare pattern, and those Mona Dreamweaver shoes will be mine -- oh yes, they will be mine. :)

  45. @ Audreybella: Thank you for the info on the Morse Code Schoolboy - that item is going to come home to my closet for sure!

Re: colored jeans, I'm still deciding if I want to pick up any of J.Crew's neon colored toothpicks, but I splurged on a pair of JBrand red skinnies last August and they are SO FABULOUS. Tons of compliments whenever I wear them. It's gotten to the point that I have to stop myself from wearing them to parties and get-togethers so that people won't think I only own one pair of pants. Highly recommend.

  46. I NEED that leopard bag. So gorgeous!

  47. xoxo, the skirt just arrived. You read the desc more carefully than I--indeed, it is more of a beige than an ivory or white. (It is not quite as much of a surprise though as the black and beige striped dress they did in the summer--the one that made me look like the Michelin man?--I can't remember the name but I recall it was equally Frenchie, either evoking bateaus or Chanel. Anyway, IMO that was not a good color combo--the beige was peachy and I didn't like it in the black. This is definitely a light taupe bordering on ivory?, and I think it looks great with the navy and easily pairs with white on top)

This is a keeper for me at FP. Of course, every single time I've bought something FP, it seems, it gets drastically marked down and I regret it later. It is definitely TTS, but (and this is a big no duh but is worth emphasizing)--it is super body hugging. Every bulge, curve, etc. shows.

It is a nice, substantial weight and a great feel--silky smooth. I am slightly worried about the attachment of the patch pockets pulling and creating a hole. Also, there are some slight irregularities in the weave at one point, but not enough to consider defective. I do think this might be something that would snag if you didn't watch where you sat.

But I LOVE IT! The best purchase I've made in longer than I can remember. HTH!

  48. Loving the new prints. Wish they would quit rolling out the Jules dress in a new color/print with every new collection, though. Too short for most of us and not a good shape for a lot of bodies. Would like to see these prints in more wearable styles. The Lilian dress looks very promising.

What size do you wear in a pencil skirt and pants or jeans and what size did you get in skirt. I'm having a hard time deciding on a size. Thanks :)

  51. First, thanks so much for the pics and I love the reviews since our one-and-only store is so small and never has what I want to buy.
Cass, I could not agree with you more about the Jules dress. They need to make this in a tall version, otherwise it is just torture seeing it in every print imaginable and being so unattainable for those of us over
    5'8" !
I welcome any color of neon pants except on me at my age, because it is hands down better than some of the "freakishness" I see women wearing in Vegas ! I am sorry, but I don't care if you do have rock hard abs, if you are pushing age 50 I don't need to see them or the painted on leather/pleather pants. Do you own a mirror?
I also love the animal print bag but it will be way too expensive! Is it just me or have the prices continued to skyrocket at JC?
On a positive note, I love the silk flowly skirt and all the shoes look promising, on sale that is! Oh, my word veri is "waiti" as in Wait I will for a sale!

  52. Hey Shekster- I second your thoughts on our ity bity tiny, small as can be shoe box store!!!! We went from having 2 factory stores, 2 retail stores and 1 madewell to a really small retail store and decent outlet store. I feel like our retail only carries the basics and it is boring.

Yes, I'm pretty sure we have some of the best people watching here, never a dull moment.

  54. Hi MegCrew, LOL at your comments about our pathetic store. I really miss our old Fashion Show store that had cashmere and shoes and a better selection. I am tired of ordering online and returning. I cannot believe the great deals JCA's in NYC are getting in store! I am happy for them but you think it is such an expensive city the clothes would cost more. Nope, we are so unfortunate...Boohooo....
