J.Crew Email: More tees, please

J.Crew is a busy bee today! "Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared another email from J.Crew this morning.

The email promotes their Tee Collection (click here to shop online). The email also features the Grand Ruffle Shell (Item 24208; $42.50) which J.Crew describes as:
With its bold tulle-and-cotton ruffle, this shell is an absolute standout. It looks perfect paired with a cute skirt and even more lovely layered (the festive ruffle adds tons of fun and texture). Textured cotton jersey. Open crewneck (an exaggerated crewneck that's just shy of a scoopneck).
I really love this top! I think it is super cute to wear under a cardigan in the Spring. For some reviews & real life images of this top, you have to check out:
What are your thoughts on the Grand Ruffle Shell top? Have you purchased or tried on this top? If so, please share! Do you think you will pick one up at your local J.Crew store? :)

  1. I got this shirt in the 'Moroccan Spice' in the photo. I really like it... sometimes I have a hard time with the tank tops having arm holes that are too big, but not this one!

  2. I liked this shirt. A good layering piece. I tried on the Spice color as well which was a nice shade. The fit was rather large with the sides carrying extra weight, I would size down in this but overall I was impressed.

  3. I tried this on and thought it was a nay for my big bust and curvy figure. Overall it just added volume, even layered.

  4. HA! I'm wearing this right now in "Chalk". I purchased both Chalk and Light berry however I am returning the Light Berry. I think this top is versatile and it's going to be a staple in my spring wardrobe for sure! I also agree that it's slightly large.

  5. I think this is a cute top but am willing to bet it will end up on sale for 19.99 or so, so will wait to pick it up. Not worth 42.50!

  6. Very cute tank... although you all should know that Ann Taylor has some comparably cute tanks and knits right now in stores and online. And another thing--they're having a "Buy 3 full-priced, get 40% off." (Code: ANNSTYLE).

Which reminds me: why do we not even have a free-shipping code right now for J. Crew?? Like I'm going to spend $20 to have this stuff shipped to me or schlep all the way over to Georgetown or Pentagon City after work. Give me a break.

  7. I was just in Ann Taylor as well and loved a lot of what I saw - and 30% off t shirts. Lots of their stuff reminded me of crew...but seemed to be not as flimsy.
I think I'll be setting down my Crewlade for a bit....

  8. Cute top in nice colors, and I like the vertical ruffle. As for purchasing? ITA with Cass.

  9. OT: Gap brands is having another 30% off Give and Get promo starting the 18th, running four days. I chose for the money to go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma research. If anyone doesn't get this email and would like an invite, I'm happy to send you one. Just send me an email at: klg_12@hotmail.com

  10. Not loving the tees enough to pay FP and I think I'm in the majority as they are getting discounted pretty quickly after release. I'm *really* trying to hold off on any more FP purchases and save myself a few dollars.

I got the St. James Meridian tee delivered today. It is really stiff and almost scratchy. Does anyone have this? Does it get softer after a washing?

  11. A little OT, do any of my fellow non-U.S. JCA's use a parcel-forwarding services for retailers that do not ship outside the U.S.? If so, can you recommend your service? If you could email me I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks.

I'll add another little J.Crew comment in here, too. I got the rose vines shirt in my order today and wow, I'm impressed. I thought it looked OK online but you really need to try it on in person. Very lovely colors and fits like it was made for me. The fabric is quite light so will be great for summer or as a layer in cooler months.

  12. I bought and returned this tank. I loved it in *theory* and the colors and fabric are fabulous, but the front ruffles are randomly tacked down and that was bothering me. Stupid reason I know, but enough for me to return it.

  13. Just in case anyone has missed it: The Liberty of London for Target became available in stores yesterday. I went last night and there were already some items gone in many sizes :o( Online is starting to run out as well. I am going to have to look for the peacock top this week.

  14. A little OT, but thank you to the JCA who posted last week about a 20% off coupon in her mom's catalog. I just received the March catalog with the very coupon inside. Of course the coupon expired YESTERDAY. I called a PS at JC.com and they made a note in my account that I had an expired code. All I will need to do is call them rather than try to place the order online. So, don't just pitch the catalog into recycling, check first for hidden gems. Thanks JCA.

  15. More Off Topic...LLBean's new Signature line is available today. It is supposed to be aimed at a more hip, younger buyer. I personally prefer Lands Ends Canvas line, but I did order a couple of madras pieces from LLBean (because I am a sucker for pretty much anything madras). I have a feeling they might be going back, but I couldn't resist.

  16. I went to Target yesterday morning to have a look at the Liberty line. I wound up buying a flowered shift dress. The pattern and color palette is very complementary to some of my J.Crew wardrobe (I have a gold Jackie that matches exactly the golden color in the dress). I was on the fence about the dress in the store, so took it home to have a closer look. The fabric is pretty high quality for $34.00, and the dress has a nice cut and is lined, but on closer inspection, the seams don't match up nicely, and the construction of the zipper is funky. Nice fabric, but poor workmanship. My grandmother was a seamstress, and she would've really been upset about the way the dress is put together. I'm probably going to take it back.

  17. JCK, thanks for the head's up about the LL Bean Signature line. I haven't looked at LL Bean for ages. There are some nice things in the new line. Both LL Bean and Lands End will be getting more of my shopping dollars, I think!

  18. I am so glad I skipped the (cheap?) scratchy Liberty scarves at Target. I am going to buy one of the pretty and (I know better quality) scarves from the new LLBean signature line.

  19. NADJA JACKET
Hi - Living in Canada so not able to try things on --- can anyone tell me if they have seen the Nadja jacket IRL and what it's like. I'm fair and I'm concerned it will wash me out. Looks sort of light pink online. Are there any other colours in-store? Thanks!!!

  20. xoxo -- yes, the St. James shirt is a thick, rougher cotton. I have one that I bought elsewhere (not JC), and I guess it's a matter of personal preference and comfort. I don't find the cotton scratchy, but I suppose it could be for someone with more sensitive skin.

  21. xoxo:

when you receive the parcel-forwarding info., would you mind sending it to me also. My email is kellydoner@yahoo.com, I am a fellow Canadian and have often wondered about this - TIA!!!

  22. xoxo: I have the Meridien and it does get softer with wear. Right out of the package I was bugged by the apparent roughness of the shirt (not the soft tee I was expecting, but I know nothing about St. James), but after I tried it on with a few summery items, I was sold. It's a great layering piece and I wore it today and it's very warm. I think it's the perfect beach item!

  25. From Land's End Canvas Facebook page:

Great news! We've just opened 7 more Lands’ End Canvas Shops at Sears in: Burlington, MA; Indianapolis, IN; Cockeysville, MD; Pittsburgh, PA; Redmond, WA; Ann Arbor, MI and Alpharetta, GA.

Looks like I know what I'm doing tomorrow! I really want to try some on in person.

  26. Clicquot, I was just surprised how rough the St. James shirt felt because I thought it would be soft like combed cotton for $85. I wear linen sweaters so as long as I know what to expect I'm fine.

audball, I really like the look of the St. James shirt so thanks for letting me know that it will soften up.

stella, no one has emailed me yet but I looked around for reviews on the service providers and I'm going to try one. I'll let you know how it works out.

  27. Sorry, but I don't like this one at all...not even on sale.

xoxo: I bought both colors of the St. James tee and returned them. They had a really horrible smell right out of the package, plus the XSmall was just too big, and I also felt the material was a bit too stiff and almost scratchy.

  28. Hi FFM - you may want to give LL Bean's 'French Sailor's Shirt' a try. I have one in Navy and it's soft and a little stretchy. I got an XS and am happy with it - especially for $29.50! :)
