"Thanks!" to Jaden who shared the following email that J.Crew sent earlier this week.
The email announces that new Levi's 501 jeans are available at J.Crew (click here to shop the entire line). Moreover, the jeans come in unique washes that were exclusively created for J.Crew.
An interesting factoid: Back in 1997, "Levi Strauss & Co. paid $25,000 for an approximately 100-year-old pair of jeans, believed to be one of the two oldest pairs of Levi's in existence." (Source: LA Times.)
Levi Strauss & Co. is definitely an iconic brand. I understand why J.Crew would want to partner with them.
What are your thoughts on J.Crew's partnership with Levi Strauss & Co.? Do you own or have tried on a pair of Levi's for J.Crew? If so, please share! ;)
So not interested in buying Levi's from JCrew! Maybe my husband might be interest but not me.
ReplyDeleteFunny, one of my PSs is a man, and we were just talking today about how the men's section is becoming a department store with all the partnerships.
ReplyDeleteBack in the 70's, Levis 501's were THE jeans to have for boys and girls ( I was young then!). I begged my Dad to bring me down to Fine's Mens Store to get my coveted pants with my very first paycheck. He could not believe that I spen $14.99 for a pair of jeans. I loved those pants so much! I remember that my Mom would not let me wear jeans to school so I had to change in the woods at the bus stop and put my other pants in the mail box! I got caught of course, but I wore those jeans all the way through college. I had to cut them off eventually and they had more patches than pants. Back then, the jeans came stiff as a board and it took a lot time and effort to get the "perfect" pair of jeans, faded to the correct color!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried these jeans in many years, but maybe I will check out the men's department and try to bring back some lovely memories of a truly fabulous pair of jeans!
off topic but yes i agree w/ you mommydearest. so many partnerships its becoming a bit annoying. And im never too excited about them. There are a few good ones, Sperry top sider, Jack Purcells by converse, & so on, not to digress but does anyone know if JCrew no longer applies the educator discount to partnership items? I was in a B&M yest and racked up on a few items and was told by the cashier that i couldnt use my discount on partnership items. When was that implemented?
ReplyDeleteprettyboy, I know! Deosn't JCrew risk losing *JCrew-ness* in all these parternships?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea when it started, but my PS mentioned the education discount wasn't offered on the partnership items, presumably because of minimum pricing agreements.
Doesn't Sears and Walmart sell Levis too, where I can purchase them on promo more often than JC?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mommydearest, the Jcrew-ness is taken away by these partnerships.
O/T Silverlining please come back, I miss your posts.
I got myself a pair of 501s at Macy's for $25. I don't understand the prices on J Crew.
ReplyDeleteLevis has so many different washes and types of denim all using the iconic 501 cut.
ReplyDeleteMyself, I love 'em. Out of all the denim I have tried, bought and wear, 501s are the best.
I have been using my educator's discount on all the partnership items; not sure why you can't.
I love Levis but not at J.Crew prices!
ReplyDeleteMy PS will not apply the educator discount to partnership items. This started a few months ago, right around the time when you could not use the educator discount in combination with other promos. Bummer... Overall, I like the partnership products. It makes shopping easier. I have always been a fan of the 501's, but at those prices??? However, I heard that Levi's is now manufacturing their jeans in some obscure factory somewhere in Asia, not in the good ol' USA and not of USA denim. All of my 501's are made in the USA, so are JCrew's. Thus the price difference????
ReplyDeleteI kind of like the partnership items, but I invariably buy the items (exact same or very similar) elsewhere at a discount. JCrew's prices on these items tenda to be way out of line with their competitors.
ReplyDeletemake that "tends" :P
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads-up on the discount not usable with partnership products. I did not know about this recent change either. :(
ReplyDeleteWell, I am glad I got the Timex watch over the holidays with the discount.
I am both a J Crew and Levi's lover. Been hunting down Levi's for over 20 years now. I bought 3 pair of the offerings. Very pleased with the fit and finishes.
ReplyDeleteSure, you can buy Levi's at Sears, but you're probably not gonna get a pair of selvedge denim Levi's. Plus, I believe the Levi's made in Mexico are superior than those made in Haiti, Egypt, Latvia, or some of the other origins you'll find in dept store Levi's.
Go to the Levi's store and you'll find a good number of special finish jeans for $98 and above.
