Lucky Magazine Shares Jenna's Shopping Secrets

Over at J.Crew's Facebook page (click here), they shared with us a video from Lucky Magazine (click here). According to J.Crew:
Check out this behind the scenes video with Jenna (our creative director) sharing her shopping secrets with Andrea Linett (Lucky Magazine’s creative director)
It is another behind-the-scenes look with J.Crew's Creative Director. Jenna Lyons discusses lots of topics, including what items she likes to buy over and over again. One thing that interested me, that she likes to shop alone. Frankly, I do too! Overall, it is a fun watch. :)

P.S. Is wearing all-denim the latest trend? If so, I am going to have to "sit out" on that one. ;)

What are your thoughts on the video? Do you like the tidbits that Jenna shared with us? Was there anything that struck you as interesting or note-worthy? :)

Sidenote: There is also an article interviewing J.Crew's Menswear Designer Frank Muytjens, over at Hells Kitchen (click here to read). Unfortunately, it is not in English. However, there are lots of great images. Also, if you happen to have the latest Firefox (it's an Internet Browser)... then click on the "Translate" button to translate the entire page into English. It does a pretty decent job too! :)

  1. A few questions:

Who is Jenna's agent? Gal gets more exposure than half of Hollywood.

How does she find time to get any work done with all the interviews and appearances?

Is it just me, or does the interviewer act like she had one too many martinis at lunch?

All tongue in cheek of course, it was fun to watch. ;-) I think a lot of us on here are closet shoppers, either late at night or in the early morning - stalking the sale updates!

    Thanks for sharing the video.

  3. I love reading and watching these interviews with Jenna, thanks for posting!

  4. I find Jenna to be very likeable. I agree with xoxo that she's all over the place lately, but I have to admit that I like that she's the face of J. Crew. She makes the company seem more accessible and down-to-earth than it likely is in reality.

    Thanks for posting!

  5. LOL, Raina Cox, that's exactly what I said. Since when did a head-to-toe denim outfit become acceptable? What's next? A polyester leisure suit?

  6. Raina - Canadian Tuxedo indeed! LOL

Check it out, from Elle Canada

Also a mention of mixing with menswear pieces. Where have we heard that before?

  7. Hearing them talk, was like ummm painful. But two things struck me as interesting -- Jenna's lipstick. I think it's a new color I saw on the models in the catalog. And that Jenna's style icon is Slim Keith.

  8. Netdeva: the gorgeous coral color from the new catalog looks sort of like Ever Hip, one of the corals from the new Liberty of London collection for MAC.

  9. Monochromatic denim aside, I enjoyed this. I also think that because we all pay such close attention to JCrew, it only seems like Jenna Lyons gets an outrageous amount of publicity -- yes, she's been in the press fairly often, but JCAs are also scouring the internet for each and every mention of JCrew and then posting them here, so we're more aware of Jenna's press exposure.

An observation about JCAs rolling their eyes and complaining that they are tired of Jenna's several statements that she looks to the men's and boy's sections for inspiration for her wardrobe:
Isn't that exactly what true "personal style" is? She's found an influence that she's drawn to and that resonates with her, and that menswear influence guides her fashion and design choices. All she's doing is staying true to what she loves.

I don't love every piece that JCrew comes out with, but I do love that the company under Jenna's direction is taking risks and producing some creative, offbeat items; prior to her promotion to her current position, JCrew was, frankly, getting stale. There's only so many ways you can market "this year's new and improved ... cable knit v-neck" before people just get bored and stop paying attention to your merchandise.

  10. Jenna is following a new fashion trend which is to wear denim head to toe. If you head to the video fashion player on The Today Show it was shown as a look for spring in a fashion segment a while back. So Jenna is just following along with the latest trend.

  11. You are absolutely correct, Genny. It's not just Jenna. I saw some magazine advertisements (Gap?) where all the models were dressed in denim "suits." It was actually painful to look at them. :(

  12. xoxo - ha ha! yes, especially at first I was thinking - "is she drunk?"

I live in Texas and while I see denim on denim IRL it's just not right. As Jeanne said, it's actually painful!

    Thanks for sharing!

  13. Emily, I think, but just guessing, that xoxo's comment was similar to Genny's comment that Jenna Lyons is following general trends. Nothing wrong with that, it's typical of fashion and she would be crazy to say, "We're following everyone else and borrowing from the boys."

Denim on denim is not a trend that I will try. Wondering when we will see those acid wash baggy jeans from the lookbook...
