Darlings, is it time for a J.Crew coupon code?

Yes, it is that wonderful time!

A ginormous "thanks!" goes t0 Mae, who is super nice to share with us that J.Crew is offering free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code MXB89K. This offer expires Monday, 3/29/10.

P.S. I have noticed that other blogs & websites post J.Crew codes & coupons *after* this blog does. If you happen to get codes & coupons from the JCA blog & post them at your site, could you please give give a "shout out" to the JCA blog? This way more JCAs are inclined to share. TIA! :)

Side Note:
"Thanks!" to Lesley who let us know that her local B&M store had the latest catalog available to customers. So this probably confirms that new arrivals will arrive online this week. {wahoo!} :)

  1. I am so glad that I found your blog! I love J.Crew, but I admit I do not shop there often. Fortunately, shopittome.com sent me an email with their latest sales and I found a fab dress for $49.99 originally $138. I will have to keep up with your blog for coupon codes and other great J.Crew news. . .

  2. Awesome! I've been holding off on a few items, waiting, hoping. So glad I totally paused.

Also there is a promo for the J. Crew B&M in Cherry Hill - 20% off in store with purchase of $150 with coupon.

  3. I am waiting for a percentage off and free shipping. I have a dilemma and hope someone can help... I have been shopping quite a lot from Jcrew since last few mths. I do feel that the stuff I buy is what I need and not a result of splurges...I don't have a job right now.. and The Husband says 'be careful' with the purchases. How do I assess if how much I am spending is ok or is within usual norm , you know what I am saying ? I am kind of new to shopping with the $$$.. hope I can get some budget advice in general. TIA :)

  4. I have a ton of wedding stuff I need to buy so I'm holding out for a % deal off WITH free shipping :)

Okha-Since everyone's definition of normal is different, it might help for you both to keep a budget in mind that you and your husband are comfortable allotting for shopping and then making sure not to go over it with your purchases. hope this helps!

  5. Okha,

I think you and your DH need to discuss how much you can spend as everybody's financial situation is different. There are months when I spent $100 on clothing and stuff and there are $800 months. I know what my limit is and it usually averages out to about $400 a month for me and DS for clothing. This does fit in our budget and I could actually spend more, but like seeing our savings grow. Very little of what I buy are true needs. I could probably get by for at least a year withoug buying anything more than some undies and a pair or two of shoes.

  6. Okha - Good advice given so far. I also agree w/sitting down w/your husband and deciding on a set amount each month. It's easy to sip sip sip away on the crewlade without realizing how much you're spending. If you've recently stopped working and have a need for more casual clothes, perhaps that's a reason to update your wardrobe. However, if you're out of work & *should* be looking for a job, then maybe you're feeling guilty because you're shopping. As stated, everyone's situation is different. Just assess yours without comparing yourself to others and you should find the answers you need. :-)

  8. I just received the Alecia platform peep-toe shoes that I ordered during the last free ship promo.

I'm so disappointed! I had such high hopes from the photos on the website, but unfortunately they're just not as nice looking in person.

First of all, my usual 7.5 is a titch too small. The shoes fit, but only just. I fear they'd be uncomfortable by the end of the day. But the platform (footbed) is very comfortable and there's a little flap of leather between the heel zipper and my skin, so no issues about it rubbing.

My biggest complaint is the colour. The pale toffee on screen looks beautiful and definitely tan/brown. IRL, they've got a pink cast to them; the colour makes me think of Band Aids.

Also, the heel is much less tapered than the ones in the photo. Mine are much more square and chunky, not as refined looking.

I'm toying with the idea of exchanging them for a size 8, that perhaps the leather will differ pair to pair...maybe another pair will be more tan/brown?

Major bummer. I was really looking forward to wearing these shoes with everything :(

  9. @ tres tippy, kitsmommy, gigiogca- Thank you ladies for the insight..I truly appreciate it. As gigi mentioned, I am probably feeling guilty because I dont have a job right now. And as kitsmommy says $400 per month budget sounds like a great idea.. maybe I could save those (if needed) for some months towards bigger purchases. Thank you all once again :)

  10. Okha--One thing to add...I have had screw-ups financially with our budget and I ALWAYS fret and freak out, but in the end, my husband appreciates my honesty and willingness to talk with him. He also has become more willing to understand that SAHMs can't just live off the love their kids give them all day long. ;)

Communication is so important, as is a budget. But the most important thing is to move on and forgive yourself if there ever are any future mess-ups (which may never happen to you)!

    Good LUCK!!!

  11. Jen: Happy to hear the blog is helpful! :)

Okha: You raised an excellent topic! :) Most of us live on a budget.

It is so easy to get carried away and start adding things to the cart. Especially when the prices & items are so tempting! :) Every budget is different, so it would be difficult to give a figure.

I agree with the other JCAs, that you and your spouse should determine together how much both of you can spend per month after expenses & savings. And if you go under the set amount, roll it over for the following month, and if you go over, cut back the next month. :)

  12. Thanks so much for the code! I'm psyched - got the code, ~and~ I checked on the Lilac shower shift dress, and they had it back in stock in small in light ginger! So I wasn't about to hesitate on that one.

Saw the Jessie cotton dress again in my B&M, and while cute at first glance, up close it just looks flimsy and cheap. So instead of getting that, I ordered the Double V dress as well, hoping it will work with a killer pair of sandals I just got from Banana Republic. Here's hoping!

  14. @ Dinagideon- Yeah..Both of us do communicate freely about purchases (they are mostly mine !) ; a fixed budget really helps.. but as you say one can go overboard with them.. and some self control plays a big part too I guess :)

@Alexis- Its so nice to know that everyone does Jcrew and other lovely things on a budget. About temptations, this has happened to me the first time after I discovered the one and only JCrew.. and maybe anthropologie sometimes :)

  15. Lauren---I ordered the jessie cotton dress, and upon receiving it, I totally agree. It looks cheap and flimsy, the skirt part is kinda see through....totally not worth the money, in my opinion. However, I did get the double v dress, in shadow, and LOVE IT. I think this will be one of my spring/summer "go to" dresses.......but looking for more!

  16. Yay for the free ship code! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the new arrivals online tomorrow, accoring to my PS.

Okha, there are a myriad of helpful books on household budgeting as well as many on helping you choose what you need to build a great wardrobe that fits your lifestyle. Head to your local library for an afternoon and look through a few of them for sound advice on the cheap. Even better, check out the titles and reviews at your favorite online bookseller beforehand to focus in on what you really want to know. If a book looks like a great reference for now and into the future, buy it and keep it handy.

The posters in this forum provide great advice on a lot of topics in addition to J.Crew but if you really want to understand your finances and dig a little deeper to develop a personalized family plan, that is something that can't be done here. Best of luck to you, it can be daunting at times but very rewarding when you manage it well.

  17. @xoxo- The thing is , I really dont shop anywhere much except Jcrew and I wanted a general idea on clothing and shoe shopping keeping in mind the Jcrew (for reference ) prices... Thanks for the information on books for household finance ..I am sure they would be so helpful :)

  18. Has anyone seen the cotton Blakeley dress in the light ginger at their B&M? I need a 0 or P2 and both are sold out on-line.

Okha, I tend to slip up, but I've been doing better since I decided each month to create a simple spreadsheet of that month's "must haves." Those items need to add up to no more than two thirds my monthly budget, so I have some wiggle room. Of course, I always want more than I can afford, lol, so I just decide that certain things will go on the next month's list, and so on.

I like this method because it makes me see exactly what I want, can have, and how much it's going to cost, so there's no surprises and I don't feel deprived, either.

  19. @ Lauren S- Wow, that sounds like a good way to organize purchases... I too will be trying that very soon ... Thank you : ) !

  20. @mrs.anketell: I agree.. the Jessie dress is definitely too sheer in the skirt part, it's gross. Glad to hear you're loving the double v dress! I'm hoping it will fit well and be my go-to dress as well!
