"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I'm really getting tired of the "News about your J. Crew order" emails stating they wish they had enough of the item I ordered and it is now cancelled on my order. Then the very next morning that same item, color and size pops back up on their website. Really, J. Crew??

    1. Ditto on the canceled orders - both sale items I ordered Saturday are out. One I found out about yesterday, the other today. It also disappoints me that it takes them three business days to realize that. I have had luck getting them to honor the price for similar items though - depending on what it is, I've gotten full price items in different colors to replace the sale item I ordered and sold out. Just a suggestion...I'm going to try it with one of my sold out items :)

    2. Both of my items were cancelled too. I got an email but also a phone call, which was nice, actually. That's got to be a thankless job!

    3. I recently had an order of 6 items, and EVERY SINGLE ONE got cancelled....

  2. Two shirts in the last month that have tiny holes in them. One I returned and one I wore and would love to return but they don't seem to have any more and I do love it.

    1. Wow - that's CRAZY. Vent/laugh indeed. Hope the sneaks fit, they're really cool.

    2. Apparently my pop back has shipped. .. now I'm worried I'm getting something else instead of a skirt. :/

    3. October surprise, trick or treat, J. Crew extreme popback sale shopping! lol I could say that at least your popbacks shipped (mine were cancelled), but I think I'm glad mine were cancelled rather than dealing with a return of the wrong item (and disposing of huge box lol!). Hope you can get what you ordered eventually!

    4. Hi cate - this was part of a 5 item order where the other 4 were cancelled, ha! I don't mind taking a gamble every once in a while because my B&M is close and always super helpful, but this just made me laugh. Like, you couldn't find a smaller box/add more than one crinkled piece of tape to hold it all together? At least the box has been providing lots of entertainment for my toddler!

    5. silver_lining: oh no! and lol! So bad it's funny, I agree. Wouldn't you like to know how that came about? Is there a sub-sub-basement somewhere at J. Crew where they find old things with tags on? Then they get the first old box they can find, set it across the room, and literally throw an item (any item) at the box, quick tape it up, slap a label on and send it out (to anyone!)? !! :)

  4. "Best" thing happened to me today. I've added 2 of the same dresses in different colors to my bag at $109.99, and during checkout the price changed to full $158.00. When I called to complain, they took 15 min to research only to come back and tell me there's nothing they can do for me at this time, but to submit an error report. Classy and helpful as always, JCrew

  5. The clothes are ugly, awkward, and too expensive for such low quality. What happened? I used to be able to get a full seasonal wardrobe 4 times per year. Now, I'm wearing the perfect shirts and the Minnie pants and the REAL schoolboy blazers from 5 years ago because J. Crew thinks it's appealing to some weird crowd who wears polyestered, starkly patterned clothing. News flash J. Crew, you are not H and M. There is (was) cache to being a J. Crew connoisseur. Now, your loyal customers are leaving your stores empty-handed while your clearance section rivals the size of a major department store. You want to sell $150 pants and$200 blazers? Then you need to have TRUE j. Crew shoppers in mind. Chasing the quick cheap buck of this mystery crowd you seem to be courting will land you in Forever 21, H and M land.

  6. It feels like JC is going for an androgynous, DJ, mosher, hipster style at times and that "look" is battling the Jackies & the double-serge skirts or anything made of silk or wool. Who will win in the end to carry the company forward?

    1. Seriously. I love the double-serge wool skirts, the tippis, the kiki flats - all of the classic basics. I don't even look at new merchandise, and even in the sale section I just search for the products I know I like. Last year I got a pinot noir double serge #2 skirt for so cheap and it is amazing, especially for fall and winter. I would really hate to see some of the classic items disappear.

    2. Same here. I like the merino v neck sweater dress i bought a few years ago but recently found out theres a hole in it! So sad.. I want to buy a replacement but cannot find it anymore... They should stick to their basic cuz thats why im buying them in the past.
