If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I have a vent that turns into a rave. I had placed a Factory order the week before last for a pair of pants & a shirt. The shirt arrived by itself despite the invoice which listed both the pants & shirt. I called CS & they "returned" the pants & immediately placed a new order for the same pair, with 1-2 day shipping. This was last Wednesday, the 8th. As of Monday the 13th, my order was still showing "released" with a ship time of 1-2 days. I was kind of aggravated at that point so I emailed CS asking if I could get expedited shipping on the Factory order I had placed that morning since the pants still weren't in my hands. I received an email back a few hours later - totally apologetic - stating they couldn't do anything about the shipping on the order I had already placed, but the next order I place I can get free expedited shipping, not to mention the $25 giftcard they're sending me for my troubles! And sure enough, I received an order notification for a free $25 giftcard shortly thereafter. That is fantastic customer service! Just goes to show you, you shouldn't hesitate to reach out to them if something goes wrong.

  2. I on the other hand....find factory shipping slow and as of today ( 8 days so no price adj.) all my latest purchases are about 30% less.....
further with retail....all of the dresses I try with the keyhole neckline are way too low...so have stopped looking at these. Other dresses have these huge arm holes....again totally ill fitting garment. Who is cutting the patterens and why have they not changed it....it has been going on for way too long to have them not be aware of these issues with their clothing cuts....imo

    1. Have you asked for a price adjustment? I think it was so shady to offer the "factory first" prices the first day of the rollout & then they were even more % off the very next day! How is that an incentive to buy the first day?? I think I remember some people saying they called to get price adjustments & they did it.

    2. @Unknown, per someone's suggestion on another post, I used the chat function on the factory site to get a price adjustment for an early access item that dropped in price the next day. They were very helpful and credited me the difference, no questions asked. Definitely worth a try and the chat function is really easy! Although I find they are extremely responsive on email as well. HTH!

  3. Vent...I'm so sick of getting five packages from five stores when I place an order with multiple items. It seems so wasteful. This being said, the merino swing sweater I received from a store yesterday arrived with no tags on, a hole in the sleeve and was pilled all along the hem. Of course they're sold out in that color.I will say that CS was very helpful - they credited me immediately and offered me a different color for the price I paid, which is less than what it's being sold for now. But still frustrating as I really want the color I ordered and I'm sure it will show up tomorrow morning in the sale section.

    1. i hear ya!

i hate it when i get multiple packages for one order! plus i'm always scared that whatever comes from a store will be in bad shape. I lucked out with an extreme popback coming from a store with my last order, but i think it was seriously just a fluke. a lot of times i'll try stuff on in the store but then order online so that i know i won't get a picked over, fuzzy, make-up encrusted item.

    2. Just checked the tracking on a sweater I ordered on Monday and yes, it is shipping from a store in Los Angeles. It had better be in good shape; I ordered it because I had to return the one I purchased from a B&M because it had a hole in the sleeve and of course I did not notice it in the store. It's really a lot of work to shop at the store I love . . . .

    3. I shop on both the Canadian and US sites, and I have found that if an item is out of stock on the Canadian website, but in stock on the US website, then the item that you order on the US website will most likely be coming from a retail store. A CSR from Madewell basically told me this, but didn't come outright and say so, so you can take this with a grain of salt.

  4. I was SO excited when the Ceces came back online. I ordered them the day they did, even though they were going to be backordered for a month. They were supposed to ship this week, but over the weekend, I just got another email saying they were backordered again - for THREE MONTHS! I was so angry, I immediately fired off an email to J. Crew, saying that I didn't understand a. why such a popular, beloved shoe was discontinued in the first place and b. why when they decided to bring it back, they didn't have enough supply for the demand.

On the plus side, I got a very nice reply and an offer to send me a $25 gift card. I'm still debating cancelling my order. I love Ceces so much, and am now mad at myself I didn't order one in every color last year.

  5. I am annoyed with the bouncing prices. Because of this forum I am savvy enough and know the work arounds (ask for price match, use my VPS, charge sends, etcetera), but I really resenting having to jump through those hoops. So I don't buy!

    1. Ditto-and the fact that some (many?) stores are no longer carrying certain items (I.e. Liberty shirts) means I no longer have an easy-ish way to see what in-store pricing is vs online pricing. This means I feel cheated anytime an online order comes from a store, as the stores generally have lower markdowns and often even a higher % off. It makes me not want to buy-I have lost the energy to pursue many of the workarounds :/

    2. I agree Wendy. I just found out that the Endless shirt I ordered during the last promotion is shipping from a store in Pennsylvania instead of the warehouse. Even when I lived near a J.Crew B&M, I would place my orders online so that I received merchandise that wasn't shop worn, so why would I want an in-store item now when I purchase online? Not to mention the price differences like you said. I actually emailed my VPS to see if I can get my educator discount on the shirt since it's coming from a store instead of the warehouse.

  6. I really wanted the oversized turtleneck in the black/white strip colorway and visited 3 local stores this weekend (they were all sold out online). As soon as the promo ends, they are back in stock Monday morning. I'm so sick of your price games, Jcrew.

    1. THIS ^^^! Almost everything I wanted to order was out of stock and the next morning after the 40% off ended everything was back! That's shady jcrew :(

    2. Good to know it isn't just me! Miraculously, every sweater that was sold out in the color/size I needed was available the next day when the 40% off discount was over. Ugh, it makes me so mad.

  7. Another backorder complaint: I ordered the Maddie pants in chocolate at the end of August, at which time they were backordered until early October. Got an e-mail saying they are delayed for another month. OK, I know this is not a big deal in the big scheme of life. But still, why make them available on the website months before they will arrive?

  8. Why is shipping suddenly taking so long? I ordered a few items last week and they shipped the next day. I placed an order over the weekend for a full price item and it still hasn't shipped! I emailed CS and they don't know when it will ship, but said I should have the item by the 22nd. Wow. 11 days? The item is in stock..not back ordered. So annoying!

  9. Wearing a featherweight cashmere cardi I bought last year & have worn twice before today. It is SO unbelievably pill-y under the arms! I took a sweater comb to it this morning before I put it on & it's already bad again.
