This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale
items at our
various local J.Crew stores. ;)
If
you are stopping
by a J.Crew store this weekend to see
what's available (if
anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in
person, maybe you might be
willing to share that with us in this
post. In particular, if you could
share with us a few of the
noteworthy items that are available, at
what prices, and potential sizes
the store is carrying (as well
as the store location)- that would be
fantastic!
Also,
please let us know if your local store is
carrying an additional percent
off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)
P.S.
I noticed that many of
you have already been reporting sale
items (and in which stores) in
other posts which by the way "thank
you!" :) I really appreciate how
helpful we are for each other!
Dina/My Superfluities has been competing in a sewing challenge and it's now between her and 3 other women. Check out the preppy outfit she sewed. You will see the competitor's entries as well. There are some really good entries with excellent details. Dina's is my favorite because it looks off the rack and ready to wear. Plus, preppy gets me every time.
ReplyDeleteVoting is here.
So glad you posted this, Gigi. Dina's entry looks like it came straight from a Boden or old-school J.Crew catalogue. Please vote!!!
DeleteGigi, Thank you for letting us know. But, I must differ- Dina's work doe NOT look off the rack ( a pejorative in the industry), but rather looks wonderfully custom and made to measure : ) Her gift is clearly in the fitting and she should be lauded for her skill. And, I agree, she definitely has the best of the JCrew aesthetic!
DeleteAw, thank you Gigi, and rcb.shops and KnitYarns! Such sweet words. :-)
DeleteI am worn out by all this sewing, but so many cute items are now in my wardrobe that fit me perfectly, unlike some of the cute items I have from J. Crew from "the olden times." The pants were actually made to replicate a pair that I owned a billion years ago from them that just don't work on my frame any longer!
That animal print fabric, though, was a head scratcher. My hubby is beyond perplexed by it. He really wants to know who would buy that, "you know, just 'cause it called to them." Since the print is in the same colors as his beloved Saints, I plan on wearing the top when they make touchdowns, and run into the room and tell him the animal print was responsible for the points. Hee.
@rcb.shops - I agree!!
Delete@KnitYarns has spoken! ;) When I said off the rack, I meant that it looks like something I would've picked up off of a rack. Despite quality issues in retail, I meant that as a compliment. Sometimes custom made clothes don't look chic.
To be clear, it's not a J Crew challenge. The women are free to make whatever they want. The just have to use the bundles of fabric they were given.
Gigi and all, it seems that in the sewing community, those of us that are more preppy sewers are fewer and farther between. Very interesting. It may be because there is such easy access to preppy clothing in general, or it could be that sewing is a crafty/arty thing, and preppy and crafty/arty don't "go" together. I see a lot of vintage sewers (I enjoy making patterns from the 50s-70s, as well) doing more preppy designs, but I don't really have a lot of time to establish relationships with some of the vintage sewing blogs out there. For now I will continue to work with the sewers I have met from their "mothership" Sewing Pattern Review.
DeleteAgain, thank you all so much!!!
There is 30% off full price items happening right now with code WEEKENDPLANS and I ordered something yesterday afternoon at full price so hopefully I can get an adjustment. I don't know why I just don't wait for another code...
ReplyDeleteGot the adjustment, they were very nice about it.
DeleteOT: A few OOTD's and pics of the Laine boots in suede and leather on my blog here.
ReplyDeleteThe vans are $10 off in store and i got the herringbone version(black/white).
It's a long weekend up here, so probably will be going.... :)
ReplyDeleteI went to the Factory store yesterday for a return. Same 50% off women/men, 40% off crewcuts promo as online. I didn't notice a lot of the new arrivals that I saw the other day, like the Cheers sweater. It looked like a lot of the same things I already tried on. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough or in the right places. If you're shopping, check out the Factory Irl Pic Guide. Look for FA14 next to the product name for Fall 2014 reviews.
ReplyDeleteSharing a little Gigi's Gear and an event I went to the other nite.
anyone try the DRAPEY CHAMBRAY POPOVER item a9948??
ReplyDeletesounds like it runs really big... i normally take a size 2 in perfect shirts and was thinking of sizing down to a 0 in the popover.... i'd appreciate any feedback since it's final sale.
If you are interested in seeing the next roll out and how it is styled on the mannequins, then you must go to www.maisonkmv.blogspot.com. It looks like the holiday collection is going to be a little better than fall. This blogger always has the scoop and the store mannequins at this location always look better than the ones at my store. Not sure why? I think they have pictures of what is supposed to be on them?
ReplyDeleteThanks Doodle D! I've been dying to see photos, and it seems like J.Crew didn't post the photos early on Pinterest, like last time.
DeleteI kind of like that marble dress, but its so short. Its not as festive as their past November collections.
I know the darker palette is not solely J Crew but... ugh. So many neutral pieces, not enough color for me. And I'm sorry, this is a matter of personal taste but that sweater that the blogger says is the most covetable item in her J Crew history, I think is awful. It's probably one of those items that looks better on an actual person than a hanger & I should reserve my judgment of it until I see it on someone. But first impression? No.
DeleteOh my. (Taylor, we have the same taste.)
DeleteI've been wondering who the new J Crew customer is, and perhaps we have found her. Yikes.
Loving that sweater here. I went to her Insta and she is wearing the blue version. Hopefully it won't be a uber - expensive collection piece. Actually excited for it, something to look forward to ;-)
DeleteEma, didn't realize she had a pic of it wearing it. Off to find her IG!
DeleteTotally love the covetable sweater too! (although that seems like an overstatement) While I love it, I can also see how it is a departure from the J.Crew aesthetic.
DeleteLove the Rosette Sweatshirt...never saw it. Is it in stores at all?
DeleteNot positive, but I think the blogger's pictures are from the concept store in NJ. The rosette sweatshirt will probably be in the next rollout. I was hoping for more festive colors but it appears we are in for more gray. I LOVE gray but I'm getting oversaturated with it already!
DeleteWhich IG account did you see the sweater on, Ema? I took a look and didn't see the blue sweater.
DeleteHi maryeb!
DeleteThe insta is @maisonkmv

Hi JCAs! I've shared my picks for the new WEEKENDPLANS promo, along with links to pics and reviews (for the majority of the items) from myself and other bloggers. Click here to see the post. :)
ReplyDeleteI stopped in briefly today - sale section overflowing with vintage cotton v-necks in summer colors, all the tees with words on them, loads of Reid and toothpick jeans, cropped sweatshirts, pintuck sundresses, some raggedy looking sweaters, and classic duffle coats. I don't understand why they don't put kill prices on that obviously summer stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the store looked fine, but no have-to-haves for me. I did try on and like the Sterling jacket, but will wait to catch it on clearance even if I can't wear it till next year.
OT - Roxy has a great post today about Anthro possibly becoming a department store. Also great is this men trapped inside anthro tumbler that a reader shared. lol
ReplyDeleteThe men trapped inside Anthro tumbler made my day. It's hysterical! My husband would never get trapped, lol.
DeleteEma, my husband refuses to go into Anthro. So no trapping for him, either. lol
DeleteI went today. I bought a pair of toothpick jeans, which fit me fantabulously. I was STUNNED. Because toothpicks usually don't work for me. The SAs said that they have a higher cut now, whatever that means. The SAs were polling me a bit on what I thought of the recent rollouts, and I told them I just thought it was all drab and boxy. Too much grey and sweats. They know that I usually buy up a storm, especially in the fall, and I haven't been buying anything really this fall. The SAs said they are having a horrible time selling the latest offerings. Jeans are the only things that are moving. The long proportions and the cropped proportions just aren't flattering. They said they think management is hearing the customers loud and clear but that a significant change won't be seen for any time soon. Probably not until next year. Anthro was decked out in holiday bedazzled bling. The store was so pretty. I didn't buy anything there. Anthro is a bit expensive IMHO. Plus, I need a lot of their stuff in petite sizes and that's only online or in Philly. I bought a few things at Banana. I love all of their stuff this fall.
ReplyDeletei'm the same way, i wasn't a fan of the toothpicks until this season. the higher rise and extra stretch (without bagging!) won me over completely.
DeleteI know. They are SO comfortable. I always give them a try, but in past seasons I had plumber-crack issues. Ha ha. I often find J. Crew jeans to be not that comfy. The proportion of stretch in the toothpicks I bought is like perfection! Le Sigh. I so hope they get some fresh new looks. I am liking Factory so much more than the mothership. One of the SAs I was speaking with said she thinks that J. Crew is trying to be too much like Madewell, and they are two different customers. It does seem like my beloved J. Crew has lost the way. Argh. But I love my jeans!
DeleteHi Susan! May I ask which toothpicks you purchased? I tried on the destructed miller ones and I did really appreciate the slightly higher rise as well. Makes me dislike the matchsticks I bought a couple years ago even more :)
Delete@Lauren: if you love the toothpicks in the Miller wash you will also love the toothpicks in the Parker wash. Same great fit and stretch as the Miller, but a darker, dressier wash.Highly recommend!!
DeleteLauren - My receipt says toothpick parker. Hope that helps! I have taken 25 shorts in the Matchsticks, purchased about 2 years ago, but the toothpicks that I bought today I took a 26. In all of the shorts and skirts that I have purchased from J. Crew during the summer, I took a size 0. So, I feel like I sized up. I think. I don't know. The sizing always confuses me. LOL. And J. Crew pants and me, don't have a great relationship. It's weird. Skirts and shorts fit awesome, but I tend to not love their pants and jeans.
DeleteThe parker are TTS. i am a 0 and took the 26.
DeleteSusan - we are size twins! I'm a 25 in matchsticks and in Madewell denim...actually, in just about every brand except for the Toothpicks. The SA said the Millers have stretch and that I should size down to a 24 and I was like girl no. The 26 is perfect and I'm now really considering them in the Parker wash...except that I just bought too many jeans from Madewell this month. The fit and style between the two brands--in terms of jeans--really do feel similar!
DeleteThanks so much Ina and Susan! I am definitely going to pick up a pair or two during this sale. Susan we sound the same when it comes to purchases from jcrew. I have always had trouble with pants and jeans but buy pretty much all of my shorts and skirts there and have been for years.
DeleteAnyone has an extra 20% Jcrew Factory coupon code? thank you in advance!!! omona.soheechul@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteStopped by Sherway Gardens today - I picked up the Estate Necklace, which was $10 cheaper in store vs. online, before the 40% off. It is absolutely gorgeous; I don't think I'll regret this purchase!
ReplyDeleteThere were a whole ton of jeans in the sale section, most of them Point Sur, and a whole stack of Reid jeans. The funnel neck sweatshirt w/ stripes was 58.99 in store (vs 66.99 online) but I found it runs large and is way too long (I'm about 5'2.5"). There were a few of the toggle coats left at 233.99 and a bunch of the cropped sweatshirts.
Also stopped by the Halton Hills Factory location. The store is not 50% off, like the website says it should be. It's the usual "up to 60% off" deal. Most things were half off, but there were other less covetable deals: 20% off moccasins, 40% off jewelry and shoes, and I don't think the outerwear was on sale. There weren't many new arrivals in store (SA had told us they'd be on the floor Thursday when we visited last Monday).
Factory store at Bergen Town Center (Paramus, NJ) was 50% off everything women's, 60% off sale, and 40% off CrewCuts. They were handing out an extra 10% off coupon at the door or would honor student/teacher 15%. I got great deals - $720 worth of merch for $220. This store is huge now since they moved out men's to a separate store - they had everything including full selection of outerwear, shoes, and pajamas. If only it was open on Sundays too...
ReplyDeleteOT - If you're on Instagram, Audreybella, J Crew Is My Fav Store & I are hosting a giveaway. $50 for you, $50 for the friend you tag. One set of winners. Choose from stores, incl J. Crew, of course.
