J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Birdie Butter and maryeb (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, but not the J.Crew Collection (click here).

The OCTOBER catalog (click here to view) is finally up for us to view. Yey!!! As for the new arrivals...

All I think of when I see the new Bouclé Bird Sweater (item B1783; $138.00) is Portlandia's "Put a Bird on It" skits. For that reason alone, I cannot wear it seriously, even though it is kind of cute. Although, it would make an excellent and stylish Halloween costume for those in the know! ;)

Did you notice the price tag on the Maison Kitsuné® Fox Head Pullover (item B2547; $525.00)? Crazy! Although it does reminds me of Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox, which I love!

How pretty is the Roll-Sleeve Tee with Bow (item B6062; $49.50)? It reminds me of some of J.Crew's earlier offerings (like the Sequin Bow Tee). Can't wait to see this in person. :)

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. Alexis, you nailed it with Fantastic Mr. Fox! I was having the hardest time trying to place that graphic.

Not feeling anything from this mini-rollout - especially not the Peacock Sweatshirt. Eeek! I'm good for fall - here's hoping Holiday is a little better.

    1. I almost feel like the Fox sweater could be another Halloween costume for a Wes Anderson themed party. ;)

  2. Nothing for me this time. And that peacock sweatshirt is awful.

  3. Agree that the peacock sweatshirt is just terrible. The Boiled wool zip-front hoodie looks interesting, and I quite like the Collection shiny puffer jacket, too.

  4. Meh. I don't know if I just don't need anything or if J. Crew and I have parted ways.

  5. I was hoping for some more work dresses but alas not this time around.

  6. Lame.

Is anyone buying the $100 t shirts with that heart face/eyes?

The studded sweatshirt is cool, but I need another gray item in my wardrobe like I need a hole in my head.

I'm due for a reward soon. I honestly don't know what I'm going to use it on. Maybe socks?

  7. I love the concept of the peacock sweatshirt, but only if it were fitted and a regular length, not this baggy, boxy monstrosity.

and kind of unrelated, but some newish things hit sale today, like the parisian necklace and earrings. didn't they just get added to the website about three weeks ago? so strange how rapidly some things are getting marked down.

  8. J. Crew, what are you doing? I was looking at the Tuckernuck catalog yesterday and saw a deer head on a sweater. It looked elegant. That fox head looks cheap and terrible; the parrot not much better. What happened to you?

There is a style of jeans I'm stocking up on like I did with your chinos before. Beyond that, not much. It makes me sad. The Men's selection however, still looks great.

  9. We don't like the peacock sweatshirt? But I already ordered it. You see, I got a new bra that lifts the girls up and I thought everything would look nice right under the peacocks. I've already renamed the sweatshirts Twin Beaks (slaps knee in San Francisco).

Finally got around to reviewing a few from the last rollout. Shiny puffer vest, endless shirt in stripe and merino wool glen-plaid panel sweater.

    1. 'Twin beaks', You are so clever, Gigi.

I kind of like the pinstipe zip sweater, but not enough to buy it. At least not any time soon.

  10. For reals, though....even if you don't care about the reviews, please come see my new banner!

    2. Love the banner! yes I felt the same about the glen plaid sweater, loved the concept just not on me.

  11. Does anyone have the scoop on when the Ceces are going to be available again? Every roll-out I immediately check the shoe section and then shed a little tear.

    1. I heard they already brought them back but that they immediately sold out. This was just a rumor though...

    2. I saw them online last week or the week before, they were available in leather in 3 colors. If they're not there any more they must have temporarily sold out.

    3. I can help! I talked to a rep on the phone last week and ordered a couple over the phone. He said the new ones will come out early next year- true red, some kind of tan/taupe, and green. Yayyyyy!!!!!!

  12. Hi everybody. I'm a french girl and I enjoy reading your blog being a huge Jcrew fan. I found the Maison Kitsuné sweater to be really expensive. In France it costs "only" 350 € (circa 280$) http://kitsune.lexception.com/fr/femme/pret-a-porter/pull-gilet/11213214039-07RO-Pull-Fox-Head-Rose

    1. That is a very favorable exchange rate;-))

      €350 equals $440

    2. Oh you're totally right !!! I'm always thinking euros to dollars. This sweater is definitely too expensive

  13. I'm sorry, but it feels like J. Crew is trolling us. "Sweater front sweatshirt" "for those days when you can't make up your mind." They'll slap anything on a sweatshirt these days, even a sweater. The sweatshirt-with-a-twist thing might have been cute the first time they did it, but how many times can you take the same idea and put it out there and expect people to want it.

I'm beyond bored with everything J. Crew is putting out and almost perplexed by their design strategy these days.

  14. Not liking the "critter" sweaters. I succumbed to the trend two winters ago and had a fox and a owl sweater from Old Navy for a hot minute. I wore them once and realized I looked like a 3rd grader. Too juvenile. Sold them on ebay.
I would have assumed that trend was over already.

    1. I can't believe this is still a thing. I have that ubiquitous fox in glasses sweater from ON last year but I think I paid <$15 for it. That fox sweater Alexis linked to looks like the ones you can find at Target in the juniors' section! Sometimes I like to embrace my inner 6 year-old but not for >$100.

      Delete
    2. ...excuse me, >$500. For a sweater with a fox on it. WTF J Crew.

    3. ...and its not even cashmere to justify the price. That will be on sale by the third week.

They need to stop with the kooky words and animals on sweaters. If its done tastefully with an edge, I'd probably consider...but.

Nothing for me on this mini roll-out. Let's hope it will be better in two weeks for the big roll-out.

    4. "Looked like a third grader" just gave me a major laugh. Thanks for that! I did not bite on the critter sweater thang. But, I do have a pair of shorts with turtles that are a good 6-8 years old. I dig them, actually. The words on shirts drives me batty. I am SO not into the Crew this fall. I don't understand what the heck is going on. It's all so blah blah blah, as their shirt says.

  15. Mini roll-out, not much to like but then I saw almost nothing new. Still have 26 items in my wishlist though so that's okay

  16. I share the discontent with this rollout and the ones preceding it.

Here's the thing: if the brand is moving on from people like me (and other JCA's), then who are they moving on to? I can't figure out from the recent offerings who they're trying to appeal to. Some of the offerings are kiddie-focused, some are luxe and expensive, and some are downright matronly. I find it all very strange. To say that the offerings lack cohesion is an understatement.

    1. This. I don't know where they are headed either. I think that the pieces that are really selling are the ones we already own (the Downtown Field Jacket, the Checked Button Down) but they are not the ones they are showcasing on the website, in the catalogs, in the styling. Instead, they are going down a really weird path. I went through the catalogs from previous years and I could sit down and pour over them for an afternoon. The ones from this year, I don't even bother checking my mailbox to see if it has arrived. sigh.

    2. Agreed Alexis. I think that many of us who are drawn to Madewell these days are seeing a clear brand identity. A cool look. Fashionable without being slavishly (ahem) "on trend".

Anthro has it. Boden has it. Garnet Hill has it. J Crew used to have it, and it's gone.

    3. I don't understand who the brand is moving on too either. I loved a lot of the more fashion forward changes in their offerings in recent years, but this fall line is not impressing me.

Personally, I have moved on to Aritzia and Massimo Dutti for most of my fall purchases. And I still like Madewell but have only ever bought 5 or 6 pieces a year from them. I have the largest variety of different labels in my closet that I have had in years and very few J Crew items are making my fall wish list.

Sorry J Crew, but it's not me. It's you.

  17. J. Crew has already done all of this. The big animals on the tops. The birds. The bows on tops. This is really boring to keep doing the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I saw the bow tee yesterday and the bow looked really sloppy, definitely F 21 or H&M quality...
I tried the bird sweater a couple of weeks ago as it was in stores already and I have a pic on Insta (scroll back in my gallery until you find it). I also tried the new striped cowlneck that is on the cover of the October catalog. Really liked that one but the sleeves were crazy long on me. Will post pic shortly.
Oh and I love Mr. Fox too but it has already been done (I mean, the fox was a trend two years ago)...

    1. I echo Ema on the bow top. Anyone tempted, step away!

  19. There looks like there's a few pieces that will catch my eye. As usual of late, I usually find I like things much more when I see them in the store than online. The styling online is less appealing.

  20. The bird on the "boucle bird sweater" is actually a Great Blue Heron (OK, it's still a bird), but I saw it in store in Chicago and liked it so much I bought it. It is very good looking! I have great blue herons at my home in Ohio and my condo in Florida, so it will work both places.

  21. More discontent from this corner. Most disappointing fall rollout ever, and I guess this means it's now over. Do Mickey or Jenna ever look at the Women's side vs. the Men's and see the big difference? What is going on? J. Crew, we hardly knew ya, and I fear all is now lost...sniff sniff

    ReplyDelete
  22. When I went into the store today to see what the Tuesday night markdowns were, I asked the SAs if they had seen some of the new roll outs today. They of course, said NO. Even they don't care about their new stuff. I told them to look at the peacock thing/sweater, top??? and they said they thought it could look good on the right person. Who is that person????

    ReplyDelete
  23. So disappointed with women's rollout that I began scouting the menswear section in desperation on my store visit today! Please, please women's wear design team, find a new muse, the current one has lost its way.
OT - does anyone have experience with the fit and feel of Uniqlo ultralight down vests? Love the JC puffer colours but too short and boxy on my tall frame.

  24. This can't be right? This is J. Crew? The only pieces, as usual, that remotely speak to me are in the collection section and as a SAHM I seriously can't justify no matter how lovely a $450 pair of pants et. al. Collection to me feels like old Crew. This new stuff? Not so much. My heart keeps slightly breaking with each roll out.

  25. J.Crew can't be all things to all people. It seems like mine will be among the few dissenting voices this Fall.

I like quite a few things in their line-up for women. I have not yet looked through the entire list of New Arrivals (work work work), but the bow-tie tee, the wool Melton topcoat (finally a sleek urban wool coat from J.Crew NOT in pastels!!!), the Nylon hooded bomber, the Apiece Apart Esta long double-breasted coat, the Regent blazer (far more than the Schoolboy), the pants! (Maddie, Dani, seamed utility), the buffalo check shirt, the silk shirt in stripe, the sleeveless blouse in graphic plaid, the ... the ... the ... they appeal to minimalist me. They're sleek and well-executed for the price J.Crew is asking (plus promos). I don't expect to like everything in their lineup, but the few things that I end up buying invariably become wardrobe staples. I still adore J.Crew.

  26. so...do I. but I am getting tired of sweatshirts, tee shirts with writing on them and no pants with a higher waist ( all the other fashion upscale lines are having them)....why not J Crew \? The shoes as of lately ( and I have alot of J Crew shoes ) have not been my favorite as well as the jewellery...just a few statement pieces from last year that I still wear do the trick. God....I wish J Crew would pt out more bags and bring back wallets again...So...I am sitting this one out.... C.

  27. I've got my eye on the Wool Melton Topcoat, too. I don't need another coat, so can't justify buying it, except that I think it's beautiful.

    1. I did just add that to my wishlist this morning (in navy). I doubt I'll buy it because, I, too have many, many coats, but for the right price I might snag it.

  28. Has anyone tried the houndstooth regent blazer with the jeweled collar? I have the black and camel and sized up one from my normal schoolboy blazer but the houndstooth blazer is still a little snug even one size up. Did anyone else have the same problem?

  29. Skwee!!! I absolutely adore Fantastic Mr. Fox. I would love to know why I love this movie so much but I've never found any other Wes Anderson entertaining. Go figure.
