  1. YES!

Has anybody tried the Denim Downshift Top that can speak to sizing? I'm a pretty solid 4/S in JC tops. Reviews seem mixed on sizing up.

I've got the Ames boot coming today (of course it got another cut overnight!). Will post reviews.

    1. I've been eyeing this denim top for months.
I tried on an S and it was still tad big on me. I didn't get to try an XS because it was sold out at the store. I think it fits TTS. I'm planning on ordering an XS. For reference, I'm 4'11, 36B.

    2. i'm looking for some sizing advice on this top too...

normally a size 2 in jcrew perfect shirts, but i flip flop between XS and S knits. 34B bust. narrow hips. but stronger shoulders. what do you guys think? Denim Downshift Top in XS or S?

    3. Miss JR - I have measurements for the downshift in my blog post (link below). I feel the tightness across the back and arms more than he shoulders. I'm usually a 6 and the S fit, so I'm thinking you'd like the XS.

    4. Miss JR - I also wear a size 2 in JCrew perfect shirts, usually an XSmall in tees, and have broad shoulders. I size up to a small at Madewell because I find the shoulders on their shirts and jackets to be more narrow. If I were buying the denim top I would get the size small. My measurements are listed on my review posts on my Madewell Simplified blog.

    5. Enablers! I decided to give it a try. I sized up.

    2. Thanks, bought too much and had to narrow it down to 6 sets for 70.

    3. Thanks! I wear only their long torsos one pieces and just bought (literally) 5. Time to retire the old ones!

    4. Boo! They took swimwear off 50% and raised the prices, so that after today's 30%, they are what yesterday's sale prices were. Shady shady.

I just bought that top too. Can't wait to get it!

    1. Thanks, Pansy. lol at iconic Gigi. That made me feel good.

Yes, silver_lining. I love the downshift top. Did I need another chambray shirt? This one, I did. Those side pockets got me. I love the wash and the fit. I used to take M regularly at Madewell, but they've changed their sizing. Still, I vacillate between S and M. In this top, the S just fit. If I had larger than average arms or shoulders it would've been too tight. The torso doesn't cling. I'm really happy with it.

      HTH :)

    2. I'm planning to buy the top, soon! It would look nice layered with the stripe tissue turtleneck from J.Crew. ;-)

    3. JSR - The first time I wore the downshift, I paired it with a stripe tank under. lol

  4. I was excited to grab some of the dresses I've been eyeing that finally hit sale: the heathered jersey dress, the matinee dress, the v-neck t-shirt dress in stripe colorblock, and the leather-pocket installation dress. (so excited for that last one!)

I've thought about getting the textured sweatshirt dress for a while now, but when I went to my local madewell in montgomery mall, bethesda, maryland, a couple of weeks ago, they only had the small, and since it was too short on me, I wasn't really wowed. I should probably try it again in a medium, but it doesn't seem like the dress is moving at all online - maybe there will be another price cut in a few weeks and I can try it then.

  5. YAY...so excited to see this! There are a couple of things I've had in my cart waiting for another extra % off on promo and sale styles. :)

Btw, there are new promo-priced items and markdowns eligible for the extra % off today. I've updated the Madewell Promo-Priced Items & Markdowns List, and have also included links to reviews and IRL pics from myself and other bloggers.

  6. I've been needing a new backpack for a while so decided to try the Jansport backpack they have, which was only about $40 after promo. Also decided to try the lightstripe pullover, because I love teeny stripes :) I couldn't make up my mind on the hayes boot and kept taking them in and out of my cart. They're $140 now after promo (orig. $228), but I wish they had them in a burgundy or a dark brown. I don't want black and the pecan color is too light and orange-y for my taste.

  8. Check out out five of my sale picks on my Madewell Irl Pic Guide. Included are links a cashmere sweater on super sale. Plus, links to reviews of the moto sweater & camo shirt that are on sale. I bought and returned the camo shirt, but of course it's looking attractive again now that it's on sale. Pull! (slaps knee)

  9. I know its not on promo or sale, but I wish I was brave enough to own the leather motorcycle jacket. I've been wanting one forever...I just feel like I'd have to change my entire wardrobe, so it looks bada** on every piece of clothing I own...haha!

  10. I don't often order sweaters (this season), but when I do...I order the assembly pullover.

So excited this is on promo + 30%. Review here.

    1. Haha...I just realized the sweater only nets $8 cheaper than the 30% off sitewide they had last month. It's been on my wishlist since I tried it on, so whatever. Waiting and waiting isn't worth it at times...says all the winter clothes for low prices at the end of season 2012 and 2013 but have never been worn.

    2. Gigi -- same feeling. I ordered the texturework pullover sweater, it is only $10 cheaper than the original price before the discount after a long wait ... I think Madewell's sale is much less steep than other brands.

    3. Elaine H - My assemblly pullover came from a store, which makes me think the warehouse might be out of the color/size. I'm glad I ordered it. It only took 2 days to arrive since the store is local. I love it all over again. Very glad I got it.

  11. got the ruffle short sleeve blouse in both black and a creamy white. The front gives illusion of a tuxedo shirt. All silk with cotton front panels. Good quality! And I lvoe the ruffle-like sleeves, so cool!

  12. Gahhh. I was a) hoping for 40% off sale and b) hoping that two of the flannel shirts I've had my eyes on would be on promo so I could pick them up in store this weekend. I'm really hoping my store has the simple belts in stock because I planning getting one (or both if both colors are there... I might call in if they don't have one or both because I can't find belts like those anywhere else).

I also want the heathered jersey dress but final sale already?! And on an online exclusive?! The reviews seem all over the place so I have no idea what size would work. Meh.

  14. Anyone know how the Coated Leggings run? I normally am between an 8-10 JCrew (I tried jeans this summer and was a 29 and then ordered Sateen Toothpick and the 30's fit but are snug). 8 in a Pixie at JCrew. I really want to orders some but not sure how they would fit.

    1. Hi Caroline - I am a solid 28 in JC jeans and ordered the black coated leggings in 28. When they came, the tag said "Skinny Skinny", and they fit but I felt that the calves were too loose. I'd say they run TTS. I may be able to get away with sizing down to get tighter calves (and hope the waist stretches a little), but because they're not denim they're not subject to free returns so I probably won't try a different size. They have a kind of stretchy waistband so the 29's may be good for you, but I'd recommend contacting CS to see if you could get more accurate measurements. Good luck!

    2. Thanks! Now I am on the fence. I ordered the 30's, hoping it wasn't a bad choice. I suppose if I need to return them I can. I just don't want them too loose and saggy but also hate muffin top!

    3. Update! I got the leggings today & am in love!! I posted about them on my blog carolineschampagnetastes.blogspot.com

  15. Ordered the berliner satchel in dark cabernet, and rec'd it in two days! I'm surprised the berliner bags are on sale already; I think they just came in, in late summer or early fall! I haven't been a fan of the cabernet/wine colors, since they come out in 2013, but mostly because it reminded me so much of the "maroon" of the 1980s or 90s that I really dislike. And now that I am in full mom-mode, the maroon minivans keep me maintaining that dislike. But I've finally come around to a small degree. I like the JC cranberry shiny puffer, and I like this bag. It's a great basic bag, nothing flashy which I prefer, and thick pebbled leather, which I've always found to wear super well b/c it doesn't show scratches and is much easier to clean. I'm surprised that these aren't selling out at this price! ($218, down to $122!)

  16. After my recent purchase of the Arrowstack necklace, I'm obsessed with Madewell's jewelry. So, I ordered 6 more pieces (necklaces, rings, earrings) which averaged $10 per item. Can't wait!

    1. valleyoftheshoes - I also love their jewelry. Of course the majority of the pieces are not super high quality, but they are very cute, and for the low prices (many under $12 or less), they are a good buy, not to mention always fun to wear.
