This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
I've reviewed the chateau parka in petite sizing here.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the very thorough review! I'm not a petite but I'm sure the details are the same for regular sizing. I'm not sure if the big fur collar will bother me, but I'm also not sure about how it looks when the fur is taken off. I see a snap on the hood visible in your picture… did that bother you or do you hardly notice it? Thank you again, very helpful!
DeleteYou're welcome, I'm glad it was helpful! I agree, the details are the same for regular sizing. You bring up a good point about the hood snaps-- the fur collar snaps on around the outside, not the inside, of the hood. Personally, it didn't bother me and I hardly noticed it (I think there are about 5 metal snaps going around the hood?), but I can see how that detail might bother others.
DeleteLove the chateau parka! I bought the gray version in-store with the 30% off cardholder promo. It has a lot of beautiful detailing. The VPS had mentioned to me that customers were reported the coat runs big. She was right, my previous J.Crew winter coat is a 4, but I went with a 2 in the chateau parka. Both technically fit, but the smaller size looked better and the arms were still roomy enough to wear a blazer underneath.
DeleteThank you for the review, fivesouth! The big fur collar is my favorite part of the coat, and the heather acorn is such a pretty color, too. It looks really lovely on you...I hope you decide to keep it. :)
DeleteWhen was the cardholder 30% discount? I bought the parka for 25% off, but I am a cardholder. I did buy the coat in red, size 6 but it is way too big. Need to reorder a smaller size. Love the coat.
DeleteThe cardholder promo was from Fri through Sun. It seemed to be under advertised, I only received one email late Fri afternoon mentioning it.
DeleteI was just doing a return at Park Meadows, CO store today and the SA mentioned that discount would be 30%, so I would ask in store if you are making a purchase with J Crew Card.
DeleteA couple quick MW reviews:
ReplyDeleteOversized cableknit cardigan (b5346) - I have been waiting for this one for months. Loved it in the lookbook. Ordered my usual S and it was very long, chunk, and soft. Unfortunately, it has dropped shoulders and made me look like an upside-down triangle. Very bummed about this one - it felt so nice that I was tempted to keep it to wear around the house but I knew I'd never wear it out so it had to go back.
Interestingly, I found this article about dropped shoulders and the comments were interesting. I think they don't work on my narrow, slightly sloping shoulders and just never will. Moving on!
Perfect chambray shirt in wilder wash (b0745) - I'd say TTS, would have to size up to look like the model pic. The S is tried was a little oversized, but not like that. Color is great, fabric not too thick or thin. Between this one and JC's more oversized chambray shirt (b2549), I'm good to go for chambray.
Ames boot (b2061) - TTS. Pecan color is gorgeous. The back zipper was fine - at 3" they're just not practical for my life right now, but if they were to go <$100 I may get them in black. They're just a really nice boot.
Billie boot (03822) - For me, the 1/2" difference in heel height between this and the Ames boot made the difference. A lot of reviews say that these run 1/2 size large. They're definitely roomy in my usual 9, but without a store nearby to try 8.5 I think I will probably stay with the 9 and add an insole. I'd like to be able to wear them with thick socks in the winter and don't know if I'd have that option with 8.5. Bottom line: if you can get to a B&M to try 2 sizes, do that.
Thanks for the Madewell reviews, silver_lining! I've been watching the Billie boot for awhile now, but have never committed to a purchase. What color did you get?
DeleteThe post on dropped shoulders is interesting. I really do not mind them, but then again I have very broad shoulders so most of the time the look works for me.
Hi Melissa - I went for the pecan in the Billie boot. The color is fantastic. If MW has another global promo at some point, I may go for the black ones too. They have so many great boot options, it's really hard to pick!
DeleteI completely agree silver_lining! If you get the chance, will you post a pic of the boots on your Instagram? I'd love to see the color IRL. :)
DeleteI reviewed some J.Crew Factory items here.
ReplyDeleteEchoing fivesouth, Great review! I also did a quick review of the Chateau Parka here with some petite measurements.
ReplyDeleteThanks Elaine H! The cream color is beautiful. If possible, will you please post IRL pics of it once it get it?
DeleteMelissa, I snapped a few pictures this afternoon after work. It was getting dark outside. See Instagram.com/comfyandchic
ReplyDeleteThank you Elaine!
DeleteI like that real color better than the one on the web site. Helpful pics, thanks!
DeleteCate, I agree! I think the name "dusty ginger" describes the color well. In real, it is not as creamy as it shows on J Crew website.
DeleteHey! Has anyone seen the true red cece flats in person? I am curious if the color description is accurate. I own the poppy color and want one in more of a plain, darker red. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt is very quiet here as of late....I have been checking out Masquad Shops blog and she has bee steadily rolling out reviews. Check her blog out....she is petite and I am not but I still like her opinion. Carolyn
ReplyDeleteNot a review of the clothing, but today a bunch of posters on FB went after J.Crew for an overly skinny model in one of their posts of new arrivals...I mean all of their models are very skinny but this one was scary skinny. Interestingly, J.Crew removed the entire post from their feed. I wonder if it's because they agreed the model was too skinny so wanted to take down the pics, or didn't like so much criticism in one post.
ReplyDeleteha, that's really interesting! How funny they took it down - they are very protective of their image. I'll have to look for the pic of that model-

DeleteNoticeably not anywhere on the website anymore.
went to the B&M today to return a ton of stuff. no other customers there but me. i tried on the merino wool pointelle cable sweater and the chunky turtleneck sweater and both were way too itchy!!! i thought the chunky turtleneck sweater wouldn't look too bad on me even though it's cropped because i'm so short (5'1'') but it was...pretty horrible. i wanted to check out the cambridge cable turtlenecks but the B&M didn't have them and the SA was pretty sure they wouldn't. bummer.
ReplyDeleteI found that this year's Cambridge Cable Turtleneck fits the same as last year which is slim and TTS, the catalog has it very slouchy on the model so I would size up from your regular size if you want a more relaxed look.
DeleteThank you! I was wondering about the fit of that very sweater.
DeleteI ordered the chunky sweater and it's going back. I too am short but tend not to buy the petite tops. I bought the sweater in one size larger than usual and it's still short. It's really oversized and very boxy. They missed on this one.
DeleteThe only thing I kept were the Andie cords on sale. Love, love, love them and their fit. Just a little more refined than the regular jeans-type cords.
They could have sold tons of the chunky turtleneck sweater if they'd made it even 6" longer. It could have had a hint of crop without being so short and difficult to wear. I don't understand why they are missing the mark so much on things like this.

ReplyDeleteOT: I have done a roundup of links to Madewell reviews & IRL pics from myself and other bloggers for many of the sale and promo items eligible for the Extra 30% off HAVEITALL sale.

OT, and I know this belongs in the Monday post, but I ordered the Buffalo Check Jacket in an XS. I think its a little big on me and it is not really needed in my wardrobe. I was going to return it later this week, but seeing as its sold out online and has received a lot of love in this community, I thought I would see if anyone wants it. I paid $92.70 for it (including tax -- shipping was free). I would sell it for that price + whatever it cost me to ship it to you.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this is really sold out, or if it will pop back soon (after the promo?).
For sizing reference, I am usually an XS, but I would have sized down to an XXS in this, so this would probably best fit a regular size S.

DeleteHas anyone any one has anyone seen the heather Orchid cashmere IRL? Is is plum or dusty purple. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated! Specially eyeing the cashie scarf and a sweater friend!
ReplyDeleteReview from my last J Crew shipment. Merini wool Tippi in Burgundy, not the exact color I was hoping for, I really want the color of the tissue tee in vintage merlot. Also, wanted to mention since this is a new color, I thought the sizing was slightly larger when compared to my same size Tippis purchased this year. Surprise love, was the origami bracelet, it was final sale but I liked the look of it and took a chance. If you like mixed metals with a little bedazzle at $17.50 a good purchase IMHO. Kinda like the Pear bracelet from last year.
