Item 12850
Regular: $700.00
This jacket is described as "a true stunner" and that it is! This jacket is a complete "leave it" for me.
There is just a lot going on, even though it is a simple jacket.
First, I am not a fan of the material: "a delicious shade of metallic pink, and lined with our exclusive medallion print in silk crepe de chine". I would feel very uncomfortable wearing this jacket on a sunny day because I would blind everyone around me. ;) I should add, that I think the material and color would look great on a shoe, but just not for a jacket. :)
Second, this jacket looks weird in the close up image-- especially the darts around the chest area. Is it just me, or does her chest look lopsided? (I have seen this model before and her body is perfection, so I know its not her but the jacket causing that "look".)
What are your thoughts on the Metallic Rose Jacket? Do you "love it" or would you "leave it"? How would you "rock" this look? Have you seen it at a store? If so, please share with us your review. :)
The description says they "only made a few." And in very limited sizes! You can only pick from size 2 or 4. So it's a leave for me by default of size, but it would be a leave anyway! $700!!
ReplyDeleteIs that Pleather or leather thats blinding me?
ReplyDeleteSince this jacket is so flashy, I'm guessing it would look better in smaller doses, ergo, smaller sizes. As Alexis mentioned, it would be fine on a pair of shoes, and isn't this the same material or very similar finish to the Thompson tote? But any more would have to be just a little more, not a lot more. Reviews of the Thompson say it is very eye-catching so I can imagine an entire jacket. They will definitely see you coming!
ReplyDeletePass on this one.
Haha Alexis, lopsided boobage indeed! I think this is meant as club wear, or something for the Gossip Girl set. Definitely not something the average gal could pull off in the midst of a recession.
ReplyDeleteWaaay too "florida grandma" for my tastes. Eek.
ReplyDeleteSpace cadets!
ReplyDeleteLeave it and stay away from it!
ReplyDeleteOh my! This jacket is waaay out there..I wish they'd bring down the level of shine and change the color. They used this pink metallic sherbet color on the crackle mary janes from Fall 08. And yes, I see the pintucking at the boob-area, not a good choice for such shine. Anyway, this is a pass for me.
ReplyDeleteOff topic but Michelle O has on the dazzling-dots pencil skirt today to meet Gordon Brown at number 10. Saw it on the BBC today, so this skirt may sell out soon. Too bad, my next visit to the states isn't until May I am sure it will be gone by then.

ReplyDeleteI bet you could pick up radio waves or something with this jacket on...maybe you get free cell phone service when you wear it (hence the $700 price)??
ReplyDeleteI would have loved this in 1979.
ReplyDeleteIt's a leave for me. I hate the color and it looks cheap. I agree it could cause permanent eye damage to those around it on a sunny day. The price is absurd.

ReplyDeleteAlexis, funny you should mention the fabric and color would be better for shoes, I own a pair of older Isaac Mizrahi for Target flats that are JUST like this jacket (rose colored shiny leather). I don't wear them often because I think they are too flashy. So this jacket? Definitely a Leave It for me! But I could see it walking down the street in downtown NYC over a tight black dress, black tights, and ankle boots... (on some uber-chic model type)
ReplyDeleteWeird - it just seems so non-J Crew. No likey for me. But I agree with Soon to be PhD, that I could picture it with all black on a model. Just not so much on a JCA.
ReplyDeleteToo pink and expensive for me. I agree with what Chloe said. :)
ReplyDeleteI just came back from an almost 2 week vacation and the jcrew website seems different...(the tabbed view option under new arrivals, ugh)? I am not digging the second wave of the spring rollout... too pink, too blousy, too blah. Guess I'll be saving my money until fall + winter (when I buy most of my jcrew)!
-H
I think her chest looks lopsided because of the way the light reflects off of the material... definitely a pass for me!
ReplyDeleteIf I was feeling adventurous, I might...but Chloe's comment hits the nail on the head! LOL.
ReplyDeleteOT- they updated some prices this AM that you have to click through to see. The price on the library shawl cardi went down twenty bucks, and the marquis stone sash belt went down to 14.99. With the 30% off and the price drops, I went ahead and ordered. BUT I DID NOT ORDER THE SHINY, SHINY EYE OFFENDER!!!
ReplyDeleteeek - I'll leave it but I'm sure it would be beautiful on someone.
ReplyDeleteSale is not sticked this morning - I miss the days when JCrew did those early morning stocks. It was like looking for Easter Eggs every morning.
hideous.
ReplyDeletePenny,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the up.to.the.minute news from across the Pond! Good to hear that MO is packing well- love that skirt!
Does JC not ship overseas? Expensive, I'm sure.
God Save the Queen,
Deni

This is a better picture of J.Crew’s Crystal constellation cardigan paired with J.Crew’s Dazzling-dots pencil skirt in mint green jacquard...

Nice, I like the mix of the crystal constellation cardi + mint dazzling dots pencil skirt.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Brown's outfit is nice, too-- navy, grey + black all together can be tricky, but I like how she pulled it together.
Haha, it looks lopsided because it's too big for her tiny bod, (jacket is prob a 0) and they can't pin it to hide that. On top of that the light is reflecting off of it in a weird way. An item like this can only succeed with FLAWLESS tailoring, and a near custom fit. Otherwise it just looks trashy.
ReplyDeletePass the sunglasses, it's a leave it for me.
ReplyDeleteJacket is a total leave it! Awful in so many ways. Love all of the funny comments from my fellow JCAs:)
ReplyDeleteTwiga
I think the snap closure cheapens the jacket. Snap closure on a $700dollar jacket seems odd. The darts on the front are funny. Definitely not something I would buy!
ReplyDeletecompletely OT, but RueLaLa.com is having a sale right now on Paige Premium Denim...$79 per pair, which is a STEAL! Just wanted to pass the good deal along...I can send invites to those who aren't members!
ReplyDeleteoh, and I don't like the jacket :)
ReplyDeleteThis jacket is a leave it for me.
ReplyDeleteO/T: I saw a pic of Michelle Obama rocking the Dazzling Dots Pencil Skirt... I'm so jealous, I love it! :(.. lol... I found it on PerezHilton (ugh)
looks like sale update happened around 11 AM EST, but it wasn't that big of an update.
ReplyDeleteOK, what happened to Mrs. O's hair?
ReplyDeleteAnd only a British mag would say that Sarah Brown is a style setter. Unless frumpy with panty lines is back in style. :P
I could buy so many other things w/$700. Doesn't even look good on my favorite model.
ReplyDeletegigi,
ReplyDeleteshe's my favorite jcrew model, too! :) this jacket is not doing her any favors. :(
I have this rose metallic color in a pair of ballet flats that I get compliments on all the time, but I'd never wear it as a jacket - it's a bit too much!
ReplyDeleteThis would be perfect for Mrs. Obama to wear to meet heads of state!
ReplyDeleteI personally would never be caught wearing this but I could totally see an old cougar sporting it out on the Vegas strip.
ReplyDeleteit's like the easter bunny hallucinated.
ReplyDeleteIck. No thank you.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous model and my favorite. The color is fabulous on her but will only work for a few select. Who is she?
ReplyDeleteDeni,
ReplyDeleteNo jcrew doesn't ship to the UK. I rely on my trips home and my husbands business trips for my clothes. I moved here 2 years ago and tried to switch to UK stores but being 5'11 it is impossible to find clothes here to fit me. Not to mention you can't beat jcrews style. So now I just make lists and place orders when I can. I should start a JCrew shopping network for all those UK ladies, so we can help each other out when visiting home.
Any takers?
Horrible!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a shiny, pink herring.
You know what it reminds me of? Those 700-2,000 dollar copper pots from Williams Sonoma...and if I was going to spend that much I'd rather by a fancy pot.
ReplyDelete$700.00 are they insane?
