Madewell sent an email recently announcing their Harem Pants which are described as "slouchy, hip and totally wearable- they're the coolest shape of the season". The email also mentions that Madewell is now on Twitter (click here).
First, I have seen pages devoted to Harem pants in several fashion magazines, including Marie Claire, and all I can think is "...why?!?" I think Harem Pants are universally unflattering. There is nothing beautiful about them either- it just looks like an adult diaper + pants gone wrong.
Second, I appreciate that Madewell is reaching out to their clients via Facebook and now Twitter. But how about a fully functioning e-commerce site (and not just the collaboration with ShopBop)? It feels like we have been waiting forever to shop Madewell's site online. ;)
What are your thoughts on the Harem Pants? Are you a fan of the design and style? Which body styles do you think the Harem Pants could work for? ;)
Quick Poll: Do you like the Harem Pant style?
harem pants on me and 99% of the population = tragedy
ReplyDeleteummmmm.... why are they calling these things "pants" when they are clearly shorts? or, if we were to be generous, short pants???
ReplyDeletei don't mind the harem pants-- or shorts, for that matter-- actually; i saw a woman wearing a pair of h. pants on saturday, and i thought she looked kind of cool. the thing is, in retrospect, they will look stoopid, no doubt about it. so i'd say they are a pass for me, no matter what the length.
It's funny that so many retailers are pushing the Harem pants, I saw a whole thing with Anthropologie a while back too. I think they are pretty awful on most people (but if you can rock them, more power to ya!) They just look like pants that I would find in the Aladdin movie, and they should stay there (for me) :).
ReplyDeleteI wear mine when I'm flying thru the air on my magic carpet!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others - not a great idea and flattering on a small minority. And yes - Madewell needs to get their online store up and running already!
ReplyDeleteHere's a cool topic: What did you buy with your red card? Did you get more use out of this one or the one in December?
ReplyDeleteAwful, not sure why the fashion gods are trying to get this one to work again.
ReplyDeleteTo me this is an example of stores trying to make something into a trend. A piece that looks unflattering on 99% of the population is not a trend!
ReplyDeleteJust like "fetch," companies need to stop trying to make these happen.
ReplyDeleteThey do look comfy....a welcome break from the skinny-leg jean that Madewell has been offering. I bet they'll come in handy the next time I go to an all-you-can-eat buffet.
ReplyDeleteSo butt heinous!!! Will give heinous butt. And grandpa crotch. SHUDDER.
ReplyDeletea few weeks ago i twittered them about an e-commerce site and they replied back "coming soon!!" which i've heard from them in the past. i hope so, we'll see. i made a phone order last friday that should be coming today - no sales tax since there isn't a store here and i could use the 20% coupon over the phone. i like their clothes in general but i also love that not everyone has them. i don't see myself coming and going in them like i do with other brands. my hipster qualities are still in full force with these guys! ;)
ReplyDeletehowever, no harem pants for me.
Harem pants bring back vivid memories of the early 1990s & MC Hammer.
ReplyDeletethey look like pirate pants!
ReplyDeleteLove this one, especially the poll. We are pleased to be with the majority on the issue! They are just hideous.
ReplyDeleteGrins & Giggles for your Friday Miss Aficionada,
tp
These 80s 90s trends are a slippery slope. Next thing you know, JCrew will come out with madras and critter Zubaz... and sell them for $98. bwahaha.
ReplyDeletere: zubaz: imagine this in the men's fall 2009 catalog. LOL.
ReplyDeleteOMG tastymoog, I remember those horrible zubaz pants. Thanks so much for the links, totally LOL hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe there are "fans" of such hideous clothing.
Yes, I agree with you all. Madewell, please allow me the opportunity to impulse shop from my bed while eating an ice cream bar on a Saturday night.
ReplyDeleteI guarentee that we will both be satisfied.
team this with a puffy shirt, and you're good to go. = )
