J.Crew Brings Back Spring Sale

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Lindsey B. (in this post), Crewbie (in this post), Anon at 12:41 AM & 3:36 AM (in this post), as well as Marietta, who shared with us the news that J.Crew has changed the final sale page to "introducing Spring Sale" (click here).

J.Crew also sent an email (as shown above) today letting us know the good news. ("Yey!" for getting the email!) :)

So does that mean there is no more "final sale"? I added a sale item to my cart and did not see the red "final sale" words, so maybe (just maybe), the final sale is over. :)

What are your thoughts on the Spring Sale? Happy to see "final sale" is gone? How long do you think until we see "final sale" return? ;)

  2. Oh, wow! Site is updated, there are further price reductions and tons of old stuff added (Bella anyone?)

  3. J.Crew is mocking me. I clicked on about 15 items, all sold out. Then one item available, but only for a size 16. A few more clicks resulted in more sold out items! I give.

  4. I think it's great that sale items can now be returned.

Is it just me, or is anyone else tired of J. Crew's sale items. I really have no interest in searching anymore. I am waiting for April's new releases and hoping that I see a lot of bright colors.

  5. Char...I'm with you. literally EVERYTHING I clicked on gave me the sold out spiel. And these weren't just the items from past seasons! It has probably lost j.crew some business, b/c I'm so frustrated I've stopped looking...oh well!

(but I am happy to see final sale gone...whoopee!!!)

  6. Woo hoo! I had been wanting a cashmere sweater that was on final sale for over 50% off, but I was worried about the fit. Now that it's no longer "final" I am going to snap it up!

I wonder if JC will see an upswing in the number of sale items purchased now that they are returnable...

  7. I just snagged the last golden roses cheri cami size 10! I'm crossing my fingers that it actually comes! joy joy joy :)
*the link had no size selection and I called CS. The CS rep stated it was because there was only 1 left and it was not entered into the system yet....?

  8. Looks like the same olde stuff. I'd like to see J Crew have a real on-line Spring Sale - say 25% off anything with free shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Everything I click on is SOLD OUT!!!! There must be some insomniacs out there that got alot of good stuff last night...

  10. Yes, I used to check the website daily a year ago but I only check about once a week now on Wed. or Fridays. I am so over final sale. I won't buy from it at all. It is ridiculous in my opinion and I just don't buy into JCrew's games. If I cannot return I don't buy, simple as that.

There are so many cute clothes and better deals to be found at other stores on sale items.

I still love JCrew but don't spend hundreds and hundred a month like a have in the past 3 years.

Now, that the final sale is over I will start checking each day.

  11. Wow, I just picked up some gems in my sizes! Super 120s colorblocked dress, Cashmere bateau sweater in bright palm, Kelly shirt in bright blue, and Kayla shirt in geranium. Let's hope they ship (and fit)...

  12. It's easy to resist ordering on line when you have the 25% card to use at the b&m. It is good to see FS gone for awhile. Ditto what others have said today, the items resurrected from the dark abyss of JCrew are one size remaining or sold out when you select them.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I heart JCrew but honestly this business of having the exact same stuff in final sale and then spring sale is kind of crazy. For example,
yesterday I received an order of "final sale" items. One item was the Paige Metallic Chunky heeled sandal (they are beautiful, but IMO run about 1/2 size small). So I called and complained (nicely) and the SA said that as a one-time courtesy they would let me exchange them for a size 8H BUT that the 8Hs COULD NOT BE RETURNED OR EXCHANGED. Now today, the exact shoes are no longer final sale. What?!?! I mean what exactly is the point of final sale? If neither pair ends up working they are both going straight back to the store. But to say something nice, because I truly do love Jcrew they are sending the 8Hs with no shipping charge.

  14. Does anyone know if the cotton poplin Sydney dress is TTS? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  15. YAAAAAY! No more final sale! :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. SO glad that's finally gone away! If only I'd held off on ordering that icky Liberty Print shirt (that I can't return because it'd final sale). I know others of you have had luck (FFM I think?) with just sending back a final sale item through the mail and getting a refund - does that actually work? I'm so tempted to box it up and write on the reason for returning line "Looks nothing like the online picture" - because it really doesn't. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I ordered the chiffon ruffle blouse and the Campo de' fiori sweater dress. The dress is something I probably would not have ordered with FS because it's so unusual looking. Now I just hope it ships! It's a good thing that a lot of the item weren't in stock because my CC would have gotten a workout this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  18. dani_california - That doesn't make any sense, considering you can't try the shoes on in the store. If you need to return them and don't get an approval from the online cs, you should talk to your local store mgr.

For those interested, I posted yesterday about the cotton lawn pleated skirt.

    http://gigisgoneshopping.blogspot.com/2009/04/j-crew-pleated-lawn-skirt.html

HTH someone. At least you can return it if it doesn't work.

    ReplyDelete
  19. ^I returned that Fiori sweater dress because it's short and see-through. Maybe it can be worn as a tunic, but I thought it just looked bulky over jeans. Really a disappointment.

    ReplyDelete
  20. RatsOnParade-
Can I ask what you didn't like about the Liberty shirt? I ordered the Tiki on FS and I hate it! Way too sheer. I was going to plead with J. Crew to let me trade it out for the Liberty. I don't know if it is worth the hassle since I paid $19.99 for it.

I am so glad FS is over! I was able to pick up a silly $12.99 tee this morning in a color that I really wanted. Also, took a chance on a Lea in a M. M is not my normal size but since I can return it if it doesn't work out it's not a big deal.

  21. Off topic question, but I need help.

I purchased the Bistro cotton pant in black from JCrew a couple of months ago. I love the fit! However, after ONE wash in cold water, delicate cycle, and low heat dryer, they are faded and covered with gray marks (burns? I don't know.)

I emailed JCrew and they had no advice to offer.

I love love love these pants... enough to order a second pair even if they fade too. But I really want to care for this second pair properly.

To my surprise, I realized that I read the care tag wrong the first time. It says to wash the pants in WARM water. Would that make a difference? I thought cold water prevented pants from fading. Any ideas?

(Also, off topic, my tissue boyfriend tee has a hole in it after one wash. Sucks so hard.)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Emily: Not RatsOnParade here, but I think she thought the print wasn't as depicted on the website photos.

I was going to say, I agree that the Tiki is one of the thinnest shirts I've seen. I did get it, with the intention that it would be a beach "cover up" with shorts, so I don't mind, but the fabric is so thin that there is now a little more "wear" (i.e. bigger holes) with the shoulder stitching after a few times use. The one good thing about this shirt is the fit - which is better for me than the other Perfect Shirt button-downs in store. More fitted, less boxy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Emily: I was expecting the Liberty Print to be a pale light gray with darker gray lines and accents, but what it is IRL is blue and gray with metallic silver running down the buttons (at Easton Town Center last weekend I saw at least twenty white button-downs with the same metallic silver stripe - apparently no one is very fond of that "accent.") It's still a lovely shirt, just not at all what I was expecting (and not something I could ever see myself wearing). HTH!

  24. battlestarlet: use Dryel--no water involved, and it's more gentle and cheaper than regular dry cleaning.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I checked out the "NEW" spring sale this morning and although there were a few new additions (as in 4-5) it was just the same old stuff! I noticed that some prices were lowered (but not by much) and that there really wasn't much different about this sale and the FS. Hmmm... J.Crew we want NEW (as in have not been sitting in the FS section for 4 months) items in the sale ... please!

    ReplyDelete
  26. O/T: I went to my b&m JC in Oklahoma City yesterday to use my 25% off card. The SA asked to see my driver's license and she wrote my name on my coupon. She said they were trying to prevent people from passing the card on to their friends/family. Has anyone else had this experience?

    ReplyDelete
  27. sooner_girl- that sounds retarded. what does jcrew care that other people are using the card? that's like you going in and buying stuff for your friends and family. i think you just got a jerk-off of an employee. i'd ask to speak to a manager.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I added the Cotton Interlock Promenade Dress in Pacific Blue to my shopping bag and it says FINAL SALE?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sooner Girl,

The same thing happened to me yesterday at my B&M and others on here have reported it as well. Unfortunately, that seems to be the new policy. Nothing to stop me from buying things for friends and family though.

  30. Spring Sale...Schming Sale...
Maybe I missed a giant site update, but the items are basically the same as they have been for months. I was happy to see two pairs of shoes I've been stalking go on sale (Cate patterned slingbacks in pewter and leather Peeptoe MJs) but of course, they're both magically out of stock in my size already. I was hoping to wait it out for a 20 or 30% offer in addition to the sale price since I think the prices are still a little steep, but no such luck.

    ReplyDelete
  31. One of the items I ordered a couple of days ago on FS is still the same price but now returnable. I called CS to find out if I can return/exchange it if I don't like it but was told that I can't (even though the price is still the same and I haven't received the item yet). Bummed. It was my own fault for ordering FS but flip-flopping on FS/not-FS status of items makes J.Crew, like many of its policies, seem inconsistent, haphazard, and not customer friendly. This will definitely prevent me in the future from ordering any FS items that I haven't tried on in person first. Previously I thought that once an item went to FS status, it retained that status until sold out.

  32. Hi everyone,

I agree with y'all. Glad to see "Final Sale" go but I wish there were a few more spring options in the "Spring" sale. I'm a little underwhelmed. Guess it helps me to save up $$$ for the next season.

Still, this sale is much better than that "Just what you've been waiting for" tone in the FS ads. I think we all prefer regular sale options if they're the same price as FS. As a petite, I've found the addit'l shipping just to try on aspect of JCrew very frustrating. Glad to see that I can at least return sale items that don't work.

Hope you have some fabulous finds,

    Heather:D

  33. To Sooner girl: I used my Red Card yesterday and the same thing happened to me. The SA said too many people were "sharing" the cards. She wrote my name with a Sharpie!

    ReplyDelete
  34. spring sale makes me happy... The Slub Silk-cotton Melody Dress is down to $79.99. I went to my local J Crew and ordered one in Light pewter for $67.99 after my 15% student discount + free shipping :-D

    ReplyDelete
  35. Geez, you chicks are unbelieveable. Where do you all think JC got the information that people were sharing their red cards????

    ReplyDelete
  36. battlestarlet,

Washing in cold water would actually prevent any fading and it is how I wash all my JCrew pants...

The dye JCrew used is not color fast. Doesn't matter how you wash them.

Also, have had this happen with pants of theirs in the past. I had yellow ones that the color came out in places after washing in cold on gentle and then LINE DRYING. White marks on yellow. JCrew is just using dye that is not color fast.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I just bought the Liberty Shirt that is being discussed. Is it still pretty? Gray and blue together are two of my favorite combos. Yes, it looks like two shades of gray online but if it is at least pretty that is OK by me. Any help? Input?

  38. aw! i just got home from school! i hope i didn't miss anything major!

i just saw the chain bow tie necklace in the sale section... i highly recommend this necklace ladies! i have some irl photos on my blog! its only $59.99 now!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ummm Anon 12:22,

To answer your question, jcrew may have deduced that people were sharing by using their point of sale system. The red cards have bar codes. It's possible that JCREW ran a program to determine how often they were used & at which B&M & concluded that cards used at multiple B&Ms were being shared.

    HTH,

    Heather:D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Emily,

I too bought the Tiki shirts and plan to return them. My invoice doesn't show them as final sale. I also bought a ruffle tank (which is flourescent tennis ball bright *yikes*) and it is clearly noted as FINAL SALE.

May want to double check just in case.

  41. battlestarlet: The same thing happened to my Boyfriend Tissue Tee it came apart at the shoulder seam under the arm after 1 wash. I have added J Crew tissue tees to my ever growing list of do not buy items from J Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Maybe this has been asked/addressed in a different post - but the cards that are included with our orders now - that say "now more than ever... We are always available at 24-7@jcrew.com. Best, Mickey" - where does the email 24-7@jcrew.com go to? Who answers it? Why use that email instead of contactus@jcrew.com? So many questions....

    ReplyDelete
  43. ^Oh, is that an email address? I always thought it meant that they were available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at jcrew.com!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I second the comment about the tissue tees. I made the mistake of buying a bunch of them at the same time and all of them have holes under the arms.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Amy: You know, you could be right. That would certainly make sense....we can obviously tell where my mind is at (always online....everything with an @ is either email or twitter...) Sheesh!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh man! I bought several of the boyfriend tissue tee. Now I am afraid to wash. Maybe I will hand wash. Anyone try that yet? This sucks. Now I might have to handwash 6 tees. Boo!!

P.s. Don't call me crazy for getting the same shirt in a bunch of colors. I love v necks. I love that the sleeves are not cap sleeve or so short that they are stuck in your arm pit. I love that they are incredibly soft. And they fit me amazingly.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Just got my order from the 30% off promo! IMO, the jersey ruffle dress fits a bit big, you could probably size down on this one. Also, the neckline is as low as everyone says, but with the placement of the ruffles where they are, it can be pinned without it being visible. Once pinned, it's very cute! It's a little long though, I'm 5'8, but I think I might get 2 inches taken off.

The other item was the cate patent heels in soft seashell. Gigi commented on how the colour has more of an orange than a pink tone, which is true, it's kind of an apricot, but I love them. Toe is the new cleavage lol.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Dina: no judgment here! once i find a tee i like, i get it in several colors too :) the boyfriend tee hasn't disappointed me yet--no holes anywhere. i would imagine that just washing them on a gentle cycle would suffice.

    ReplyDelete
  49. All 4 of my tees ended up with holes. I take very good care of my clothes too and am very easy on wear...just poor quality fabric.

My deco dot cardigan came with three small holes in it too.

    ReplyDelete
  50. sooner_girl: they wrote my name on my card today, too. I don't think it's a big deal, though. If my sister wants anything, then she'll have to go out with me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Heather D at 1:07 - I think Anon means that JCrew reads this blog. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Heather D: My question at 12:22 p.m. was rhetorical. Not sure how you missed that. My comment was directed to those JCAs expressing surprise/reporting that JC is trying to enforce the "nontransferrable" condition on the spring fling offer, even though that condition is printed on the back of the card for all to see.

Sorry, but I don't buy your theory. There is no question that employees from across the JC spectrum read this blog. After all the chatter on this blog about people offering to share red cards or sell/trade red cards, do really think JC needed or bothered to run a search of point of purchase records???

I am glad that JC is enforcing the condition. If the card is a personal reward, then that's how it should play out.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Everyone: take back those crap holey shirts to the stores. Even if an item is "final sale" you do have the right to expect it to last beyond one washing - the only way to make j.crew accountable for selling crap is by forcing them to take it back.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I had already used the red card 3-4 times and only today they asked for my ID and wrote my name on it. According to the SA, they wanted to prevent those to be sold on eBay . I think jcrew came up with this new policy after they noticed people sharing or selling them. What I don't get is what the big deal is. Other stores give discounts but never seen anyone being so paranoid about it....
    Still love jcrew though!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Personally, I don't mind J Crew writing my name on the card. I've actually seen the red card for sale on Ebay! (I guess if I really wanted to I could wipe it off with goo-be-gone.) I thank JCrew for sending me a red card and I'm happy to use it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. has anyone been to the outlet recently? i am traveling down to DC and will be passing right by one. Just wondering if i should stop in.

    ReplyDelete
  57. OT: Does anyone know if the printed lattice cami see through? I'm contemplating a purchase, but it looks like thin and unlined fabric. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Regarding the tissue tee's, I bought a bunch of them and the matching tissue tanks in 2007 and never went back for more! Only one tee has a hole in the front of the shirt. I just don't buy them because they're not worth the money...tissue says it all. Having declared I won't buy them anymore, I can't wait to wear my brown tissue tee with my new Mahali dot jubilee shorts. :)

Regarding the red card, if sharing is such a controversy, I wonder if they will go through the trouble of printing customer names on them next time. When you are at the store using your friends red card you can simply say you don't have your id, and maybe they'll still serve you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yeah, a lot of items seemed to be available in only one size and color (and sold incredibly quickly). That said, there was some nice stuff that hasn't been there for a while -- lucky if you snagged any of it!

The final sale was kind of wonky. Some things that said "final sale" when I first added them my shopping bag didn't show up as final sale later in my cart. Sometimes I'd add items in two colors, equally priced, and one would show up as final sale and one wouldn't. Good thing that the final sale label wasn't applied consistently, though, because I'm returning at least four items that should have been marked final sale (including the infamous Liberty Art Print shirt -- just didn't like the pattern; I thought it would be more subtle than it was).

    ReplyDelete
  60. RatsOnParade: I thought it meant that they were available 24-7 at jcrew.com too, like Amy. But I took a closer look at the card and the wording is "we are always available at 24-7@jcrew.com." If that "at" hadn't been there, then it would've meant they were talking about being open 24-7 at the website.

    ReplyDelete
  61. This afternoon, I purchased the Liberty print shirt for 19.99 plus the 25% red card discount. I love it & think the print is gorgeous, but then again I love Liberty stuff. To each his/her own! I was NOT asked for ID when I presented the red card. J Crew is pretty smart to have sent those cards out because I am spending a whole lot more because of it. Got a birthday present and a gift for my Dad along with a bunch of new tops for myself, things I would not have purchased without the extra discount.

    ReplyDelete
  62. The 2009 version of the tissue tees are crap, I just checked my other one it has hole underneath the arm. Man the quality is going downhill fast, and the prices keep going up and up!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I was holding my breath after the big update yesterday when I managed to get a number of coveted items, including a guava Frankie bag and the chiffon rosette tee in shell. Today I received the email that all 11 items in my order have shipped. I'm so excited, thought for sure I'd be getting the "news about your order" email on the Frankie and rosette for sure. Yay!

  64. The name is easily removed. I removed mine and gave it to a friend to use.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Stacy, I went to the outlet today and bought some adorable graphic tees and a cotton V-neck - all on sale plus I used the 15% off email coupon (link to it on the blog)

    ReplyDelete
  66. If you want to remove sharpie marker from anything plastic, such as a rewards card...just use a little nail polish remover. It will come right off instantly. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I wash my bistro pants in cold water with Woolite and have had no problems. Sometimes the strong detergents can damage the fabric so I use Woolite instead, especially for items with synthetic stretch fibres, like the bistro pant.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I washed my yellow pants that the dye came off of with All Free and Clear. That is actually more gentle than Woolite. Yes, some detergents are harsh but should not affect color fast dyes.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Does anyone know if the Sydney dress is TTS? I had to size down on the cotton poplin tie front, and am waiting for a size down to arrive in the Melody-- also a bit big. Any word on the sydney?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Battlestarlet: Return the pants to JC. Seems like a quality control issue. I had something similar happen with a silk shirt that I purchased this fall. After I had it dry-cleaned, lighter color lines appeared all over the shirt. My dry-cleaner said it happened because the dye was not properly set in the fabric.

I took it bag to JC and they refunded the purchase price.

I ordered my ringspun rosette tee in shell this morning! My sun bleached applique cherry blossom tee came earlier this week and I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oops, I've bought both the boyfriend tissue tees and the liberty shirt and love them! The shirt goes great with the dark charcoal capris that are on sale as well, I think that it's a pretty shade of gray.

  75. Spring Sale is the Final Sale w/options to return. I think that is a good thing even if they do not have much left. I wonder how long this will last?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Perhaps they have finally, FINALLY dumped all the overstock merch and can have a normal sale.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Fortunately the final sale has 'weaned' me off of J. Crew - I haven't bought anything since it started, and now I no longer feel the urge. I can live without it!! It feels wonderful!!!! :)
