"Thanks!" to many of you, including Julie, who let us know about J.Crew's latest email.
J.Crew is promoting their sweaters (click here), with a focus on the Jackie Cardigan (Item 85613; $59.50). The Jackie is a regular staple at J.Crew. (I have to add, that I personally love this cardigan- it's incredibly versatile.)
J.Crew is also reminding us about their Spring Sale. (Has it updated today?) ;) Also, what are your thoughts on the sandals the model is wearing in the image?
What are your thoughts on J.Crew's Jackie Cardigan & the sandals the model is wearing? Would you recommend this top? Also, do you find the quality of J.Crew's cardigans have remained consistent over the years? :)
Not big on the Jackie, but I am LOVING the shoes! Wonder if they will be available at some point? Crossing my fingers!
ReplyDeleteThe new "Georgia" cardigan is damn ugly!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the jackie twinset, but not the blah pastels currently offered. I have enough already and will probably wait for fall 09 colors before buying more.
ReplyDeleteI'm with jbird-the shoes are sooooo cute!
ReplyDeleteI actually like the colors offered, esp. the spring daisy, nectar, breeze, melon and dark aqua (although those last 2 aren't really new). I only have one jackie that I bought on final sale (yep, the sour lemon color that is ridiculously bright!) but I'd love to get more.
ReplyDeleteAnd...I'm personally not a fan of those shoes. But kudos to you if you can pull them off.
And OT, but Ann Taylor and LOFT are having their Friends & Family promo this week starting tomorrow. 30% off anything (plus free shipping over $100 online). Online code is FRIENDS but if you're going to the store and want the email to print out, I'll be happy to send you one!
ReplyDeleteOoh boy, my favorite topic - look out!
ReplyDeleteI do believe it's the sweater that "everybody's talking about"... but not necessarily the reasons that JC thinks. I think that the changes in buttons (from flat to shank) and percentages of cotton/nylon/spandex (from 63/32/5 to 66/29/5) have turned the Jackie from an indispensible staple to an overpriced item that can't stand up to multiple wearings/washings.
The 2 2006 Jackies I own (in navy and a 'key lime' color) both look new despite wearing them constantly - no fading or fuzziness. The black 2008 one I own is both fuzzy and faded, and I only wore it once. The shank buttons seem to be sewn on rather loosely compared to the flat buttons.
Don't get me wrong, I love a good cardigan - I'd just like to be able to wear them more than once, for $60. JC has fantastic color options, but if you're just looking for white or black, I'd recommend checking out Ann Taylor LOFT - they had some Jackie clones for $24.99. I grabbed a white one for summer - perfect!
I'm in agreement with AppGal as far as loving the pastel colors. Breeze, lavender, nectar, champagne et. al. totally flatter my complexion. Plus, I find them incredibly sweet and feminine. I guess I should stock up the next time a % off sale comes around!
ReplyDeleteAlexis, I sent you an email with a $150 freeship code, did you get it?
ReplyDeleteI emailed to jcrewaficionada @ yahoo.com Let me know if that is not correct.
Thanks!
I agree with you silver_lining. The newer Jackie's just aren't the same quality. I wore one from fall 2008 just twice and it was pilling so badly I had to take the pumice stone to it. Not something I expect from a mainly cotton cardigan.
ReplyDeleteI have several from years past and they were much better quality. I have a ribbed twinset in mercerized cotton with a cami instead of a shell and it has held up beautifully, still one of my favorite pieces. I don't recall what I paid for the set but I would buy more of the same at full price any day of the week.
I bought the misty lavender twinset this spring and it did not hold its shape the only time I wore it so far and you can see it starting to pill. :(
The quality of JCrew's cardigans have gone way down. My two cashmere ones from last year have all their buttons falling off. Ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteOT, but some coupon codes for sharing:

Hello, I'm looking for advise since the topic is on the Jackie's. Which color would go best with the Chiffon Rosette in Natural? I'm thinking the Champagne but I don't have a B&M store available to see them. What do you ladies think?
ReplyDeleteLinda
AppGal,
ReplyDeleteI would love a Loft coupon to print out :)
Email me at mcjern@gmail.com
Thank you!
As much as I love the Jackie (I have two), I just bought a lavender three quarter sleeve cardigan at Ann Taylor Loft for around $25 (promotional price). Very, very similar. Not exactly the same, but for the price difference a very great substitute.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE the Jackie cardi!! I have it in countless colors from many different seasons. It is one of my wardrobe staples (particularly here in FL where it is hot outside and freezing indoors thanks to air conditioning...) I have already picked up the lavender and light light celery this season. If you all are contemplating a Jackie, I would order them via red phone (you can use your 25% off and they are actually CHEAPER in catelog, than in store)...I think in store they are $64 and they are $59 online, etc.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten 4 Jackies (cardigan and shell) recently and they are holding up great. I got white, black, champagne, and dark aquamarine.
ReplyDeleteI'm really starting to wonder how rough some people are on their sweaters that they look like they have to be thrown out after one wearing?? I have pilling under the arms after wearing them for a day (especially on cashmere, never on cotton) but it doesn't look like it needs to go in the garbage.
What are you ladies doing to your sweaters during the day??
I hope j.crew honchos read this blog and note how unhappy many of us are with their decrease in quality - and how many of us are shopping elsewhere instead. I haven't been enamored of j.crew since fall 2007.
ReplyDeleteI have bought two sweater recently that I had to return because the buttons were hanging off them. I have bought better quality from Target. Even the salesperson did not look suprised!
ReplyDeleteOT Reviews:
ReplyDeleteHi Girls! Some things I tried on this weekend....
The Jaspe sweatshirt. Runs roomy through the waist. TTS through shoulders and bust. If you want it to look like it does on the model online, hire a team of stylists and photographers, and have them pin it carefully before taking the picture. Haha... Most of you will want to size down. I was disappointed in this piece. I thought it would have that heaviness and dry hand of my old college sweatshirt, but a feminine shape. Alas, the fabric is slick, stretchy, and ordinary. I might pick it up on clearance, but not worth full price.
The 98$ Vintage slims. Many of you ladies look adorable in this cut, but as I was interested in wearing them unrolled and more fitted, they looked pretty 80's to me. Wear 'em slouchy, and they should be fine. Not for me.
Harbour Oxford Capris. Love, love, love. If you love the feeling of traditional oxford shirt fabric, you will love these. They run a bit roomy, which I think is going to allow for some shrinkage. I like them a little roomy.....very relaxed. The fabric is sooooo soft. I got the blue, and I'm thinking of running back to get the khaki color, although the last thing I need is another pair of khaki color capris, lol. I will say that the khaki color of this pant is more reminiscent of a linen color. The cuff makes them just a little dressier, but it's subtle.
Short-sleeve striped stretch broadcloth shirt. I got this in deep blue, and it is absolutely darling. I love the sleeve detail, and the stand up ruffle collar, and I'm not even a ruffle person. The collar is not over the top with the ruffles at all. This shirt is really well edited from a design standpoint. As with all J Crew tops on me, it is TTS in the shoulders and but, with lost of extra room in the waist, but it still looks great. I can't wait to wear it with my Matchsticks in premium indigo.
That's it! Hope that helps anyone shopping for these items.
BUST, not but! 11:49

ReplyDeletePilling under the arms after one wearing is not a good sign...I have a Jackie from 2004 and it does not have a single pill on it.
I am very gentle on my clothes but some of us do lead busy and active lives with children or jobs and a sweater should hold up and not fade after one wash in a gentle cycle.
I no longer buy Jackies from JCrew as my older ones look great and the new ones like crap. I returned them as the quality is so subpar.
ReplyDeleteI have bought all my Jackie like cardigans from Land's End with free shipping. I just size down from a JCrew medium to a Land's End small and the fit if fine. Plus, Land's End guarantee is no time limit.
Alexis,
ReplyDeleteNo the website did not update today. I live in the UK and I have been checking many times and no change in the numbers since early (here) today to late (now) this afternoon.
I have the rugby striped cardi/solid shell (green/white) from 2003 or 2004, and I still wear it. Pretty sure it's a jackie b/c it's 3/4 sleeves and cut is identical. It has held up very well, unlike my most recent acquisition (jackie in light pewter, purchased in January or February of this year). I'm not having major problems with it, but the fit/shape is not as good, and the buttons are a little droopy; will probably have to tighten them eventually.
ReplyDeleteI either hand wash my twinsets or woolite them on delicate, then air dry.
silver_lining: Curious. Why didn't you return the black jackie if it faded and pilled after one wearing?
ReplyDeleteI am very gentle on my dress clothes. I work in an office with an ergonmic desk and chair, my elbows never rest on the desk. I drive to and from work and change out of work clothes to cook or do anything physical. I handwash my Jackie's in Woolite and lay flat to dry.
ReplyDeleteI see fabric issues (pilling, loss of shape) on the newer Jackies and not on the older ones. If you don't see any problems, perhaps the colors you purchased are not problematic, or perhaps you haven't take a good look at them lately.
I love the design, the execution - not so much.
I did a WWFIFY on the Short-sleeve striped stretch broadcloth shirt and received an email today advising it's found in my size and will ship to me within 24-48 hrs. It is sold out in the deep blue online except sizes 4 and 6. I think it looks lovely and expect it to be one of those summer blouses that I can wear for years. Nice tailoring and feminine details with a business-like fabric to pull it all together.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your review Anony @ 11:49, I can't wait to get mine.
I machine wash and dry my Jackie's in regular Tide detergent and haven't seen any problems. No shrinking or loss of shape. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the Jackie but really don't like those shoes!!!
ReplyDeleteI have at least 10 Jackie cardigans, about half are twinsets and I also have a couple of shells without the cardi that I picked up deeply discounted. I do love these sweaters but I also notice decline in quality. I'm not silver_lining but I didn't return mine because since I have so many I don't always get around to wearing the new ones right away. By the time I wore my blue one from this winter and it started to pill I no loner had the receipt. I live in Canada so can't just go down to the B&M to return, I need to pay for the shipping as well. I could have gone through the process but I decided to shave the pilling and wear it sparingly. I've also made a conscious decision to forgo this product in the future. I am looking around for a comparable design. Land's End may be a contender.
ReplyDeletei love the shoes. :) i doubt i'd buy them, however.... i'd just admire them on other people. *lol*
ReplyDeleteHi anon 12:15 - I got my black Jackie off of eBay. Seller stated it was NWOT, and it looked new when I got it, not-so-new after I wore it. I wouldn't say I'm rough on my clothes - they're usually worn for an 8-hr workday in an office environment.
ReplyDeleteI wish they made the Jackie in a tall size. The current ones are too short on my torso. I have a deep persimmon one from 2007 that fits very well but the current ones hit me well above my hips.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Jackie Cardigans. I wish I had picked more up last winter. I've noticed that the ones out this season have not been as soft, but do not own any-can't attest to how they hold up. I still plan to pick up some in the new colors with my Red Card before it expires.
ReplyDeleteI received a Land's End Cardigan and a Jackie Cardigan for Christmas. My first of either kind. The cotton on the LE is higher quality IMO, but the cut on the Jackie is MUCH more flattering on my body.
ReplyDeleteHi All,
ReplyDeleteI noticed Gap had similar or roughly similar version of this shoe in a flat sandal on clearance in metallic colors.
Don't know how many are left out there now. The link shows the ones I saw in store.
Gap
Did anyone notice the bizarre description of the "stretch chambray johnny trouser" on the website? Looks like another error by JC. Doesn't anyone over there proofread their website?!?
ReplyDeleteOops bad link
ReplyDeletethere's a floral and ruffle version on sale:
Gap sale
1:33--Haha, that was great for a laugh. Clearly, the description writers don't even have to be creative. They just work off a simple item questionnaire, which was mistakenly published. Very funny.
ReplyDeleteSorry it's OT,
ReplyDeleteHas anyone washed their ringspun rosette tee? I just got one and it looks like it's going to shed real soon. I got tiny chiffon rosette tank last fall and it started falling apart in ten minutes.
Please let me know.
Thank you very much,
Viv
For the love of Supernatural Being of your Choice, if something is falling apart, TAKE IT BACK! Receipt or not.
ReplyDeleteIf you got it on ebay, no excuses. Sorry. You have no idea whether it is truly authentic, or what it has truly been through before you got it.
AppGal,
ReplyDeleteWould it be possible to have the Ann Taylor coupon?
I'll be really appreciated for your kindness.
Ps. my email is "a.meeju @ gmail.com"
1:33 - hilarious. And exactly what I expect of J Crew these days- all pomp and self-importance, no checking the details! ($178 camis that arrive with the beads fallen off into the bag!)
ReplyDeletePS - I am right with those of you who note that other similar cardigans last much longer. J Crew's clothes have an uncanny ability to completely lose shape after just a couple of wearings. I had a couple Jackies from '06 that were great for a couple years of solid wear. The one I got this year went right back the day I received it in the mail - you could feel just how fast it was going to go downhill.
The new Featherweight Cotton Cardigan glass buttons are hanging off the sweater, the weight of the button is too heavy for the sheer fine sweater, zoom in on the yellow one, it is hanging by a thread.
ReplyDeleteI am not rough on sweaters, it is just a crap product.
The GAP has a similar product in great colors for a cheaper price, around $40.00 or less.
ReplyDeleteImpulse buying...I bought all the colors of the Featherweight Cotton Cardigan, I loved loved the thin fabric, I figured it'd be perfect during the summer, but, as one Anon stated, the buttons are literally falling! Has anybody experienced any problems with these cardis? I'm debating whether to return them or not ...
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure that the shoes are the Aurora T Strap heels coming in June. They remind me a tiny bit of the shoes Carrie was wearing on her last date with Big when Miranda went into labor and her water broke all over them. Classic scene.
ReplyDeleteI have not had any problems with my Jackies yet either. I have about eight different colors purchased over the last two years. However, I have not had problems with cashmere either, so not sure what is wrong with me.
Anon 1:48 PM
ReplyDeleteI did, and it was final sale but it was in such a bad shape, the SA took it back(the tank).
I also bought the tee at the store recently, but wanted to make sure it is sturdy enough...to wear...LOL.. weren't clothes meant to be worn?
Viv
I absolutely love the Jackies. I haven't bought any before this year so I don't have anything to compare them to, but I have 7 or 8 of them and all of them have been holding up just fine. I wear one almost everyday to work and I wash them inside out. No fading, no pilling.
ReplyDeleteI am especially fond of the pastels offered right now. I have shell, lavender, and breeze, and they are all beautiful :) I am thinking about picking up the pewter and speing daisy as well.
I will not buy any other sweaters from j.crew, except maybe merino. The cashmere and cashmere/wool blend sweaters pill and look ridiculously worn after just one wear. I think the cotton and cotton blends are great though!
The shoes:
ReplyDelete#15263; the Aurora patent t-strap sandals.
They will be available in June with a retail price of $278.00. The color
featured in the email is sweet papaya
Too rich for my blood.
I love the Jackie cardigan! The color choices are the best. I have a couple of Jackie's from 2007 and one that I bought this year. The newer cardi seems thiner, however, I've not had any issues with pilling or loss of shape. I tend to baby my J. Crew clothes -- I rarely wear JC cardis, camis, and wool pants around the house. Lands' End cotton and cashmere cardis are definitely higher in quality in terms of the material, but the shape is not as fitted as I would like.
ReplyDeleteI hate that Jackie is itchy-ish on my skin, especially after washing it gets rougher and itchier than the new one.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer Old Navy cotton cardis that are made of 100% cotton - thicker and softer, and sustains better after washing.
I also have some Pima cotton cardis from Brook's Brothers, and oh boy, the quality of cotton is extremely superior to that that of JCrew. Brook's Brother's Pima cotton ones are so soft so that I thought they must contain a good amount of silk.
I have two jackie cardigans. One bought last fall and the other bought this winter - no problem with either. I also bought the featherweight cardigan with the glass buttons, and my buttons aren't hanging off, nor do they seem too heavy for the sweater. Just my $.02. I would definitely buy more of these sweaters - perfect length for me and I love the v-neck.
ReplyDeleteAs for the shoes, no comment until I see them IRL.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of dark on top of white or very light bottoms. Very chic summer look IMO. The shoes are pretty, not my cup of tea though. I do like the bag, which appears to be the gallery tote. The styling of the outfit with the messy hair and layered necklaces is a look I will definitely copy this summer. Although with a non-J.Crew twinset.
ReplyDeleteI stopped buying Jackie after a dud that I returned last year. The SA mentioned that there were several returns so maybe there was a bad batch that many of us received. Sounds like there are still some problems though, I'm not going to try again just yet. Love the classic look though.
You should not have to "Baby" J Crew clothes to keep them falling apart, not for the prices they charge.
ReplyDelete^totally agree on not having to baby j.crew's clothes, especially a basic like a cotton blend cardigan.
ReplyDeleteProblems with jackies I got this spring:
ReplyDelete1. loose buttons after two (gentle) wears but no pilling;
2. pilling after one wear but buttons are good.
These are of different colors though and I suspect qualities vary (different batches?), depending on color?
That said, the one from a few seasons back has held up very well. Another case in point of their declining quality!
I have at least six Jackie cardigans, and have purchased all of them between November 2008 and March 2009. I love my endive, bright fuschia, and light pewter. I wear them constantly and have never found any issue with them whatsoever. The only thing I watch out for is the buttons.. They seem to hold up very well, but are not sewn as close to the sweater as I would prefer so I will probably have them all 'fixed' once it becomes an actual issue.
ReplyDeleteOverall, a great staple I wear everywhere with everything to any occasion!
I love the ruffles we're seeing in J.Crew Spring/Summer but prefer my sandals to be more neutral and versatile.
Everyone: Thanks for the great comments. I agree that the Jackie cardigans of today are not the same as the ones from a few years ago. There is just something different about them. I thought it was just me! ;)
ReplyDeletexoxo: Thanks so much for sharing the code!!! :)
Anon at 12:01 PM: Thanks for letting me know that the site didn't update today. :) Seems weird on J.Crew's part. Maybe tomorrow there will be some good stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteI have this years Jackie in the dark aqua & love it ~ the fit is fab.; I've worn it about 3-4 times, and haven't noticed any pilling or fraying, but, it hasn't been washed yet. I like the fit best.
ReplyDeleteCompletely OT - but can anyone tell me how the perfect patent pumps fit? I recall people saying they needed to size up - any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am not really a Jackie fan anymore. I don't think I like the shoes.
ReplyDelete2 things:
ReplyDelete1) How do the Ann Taylor/Loft cardis fit? Is the fit similar to JCrew? I find that the arms in ATL cardis run a bit big for me.
2) AppGal, Id LOVE the ATL coupon!
kocanez at gmail dot com
i love the fit of the jackie, but i do feel the need to "baby" it!
ReplyDeleteanon 1:42- i washed my ringspun rosette tee on my machine's handwash setting (inside out) and even dried it on medium heat for a short time to try tightening up the neck. surprisingly, it did fine. hth.
Hm. I've simply never been a fan of the Jackie (a bit too simple for my tastes, I guess) and I will also have to pass on the sandals. I like my sandals to be dainty and simple- anything else looks bizarre on my feet. :D
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Jackie cardigans, but do wish they held up better. I've only been able to wear and wash them a couple of times before they start to look really worn, which is sad...because I really love the fit. Do the cardis at Gap and ATL fit the same/similar to the Jackie? I'm on the lookout for cardigans with the same fit as the Jackie, but better quality.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love the sandals. :)
The current jackies (in general) are poor quality. If you own this sweater from several years past and could see and feel the difference you would know. Lots of newbies on here just don't realize...if they only knew what us Oldies to JCrew know!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lindy
ReplyDeleteI will try to hand wash it with my other beaded tees and see what happens.
Viv 1:42
I don't think these sweaters are the best quality. I am currently pregnant so I can't wear all my jcrew things. I love the color combo in this ad. I just buy the really unique jcrew things or the ones that are only offered online and that seems to be working. Because I live so close to where they ship, I get my orders the next day!
ReplyDeleteAppgal,
ReplyDeleteI would love to have the Ann Taylor Loft coupon!
Thanks so much.
ebloom88 [at] gmail [dot] com
Completely off topic, but, does anyone know the name of the model in that advertisement? I recently started receiving the catalog and she was all over the most recent one.
ReplyDeleteKwinnky--please stay on topic
ReplyDeleteIt's Mona Johannesson.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Silver Lining. Sorry, Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteI agree with jbird-- the shoes worn by the model in the Jackie promo are FAB!
ReplyDeleteSomeone asked a question about the ringspun rosette tee... Yes, I have washed mine and it came out of the wash looking amazing. To wash, I placed in a lingerie bag and washed on cold. Wah-la!
ReplyDeleteThanks anon 2:17
ReplyDeleteI asked the question. I think I'll keep the shirt since it can survive the washing machine.
