Regular: $88.00

In J.Crew's latest catalog (click here to view online), I noticed several shots of models wearing moccasins. Turns out, J.Crew is offering the moccasin booties.

J.Crew describes them as the following: "In the softest, most supple suede, this is a pair we're going to kick back in time and time again. Finished with flirty fringe detail and a lace-up back. Suede upper with suede laces. Unlined. Rubber sole with rubber forepart for better traction."

I am surprised to see J.Crew offering moccasins that are not meant to be slippers worn around the house. It doesn't seem to be one of their usual offerings- of super cute heels, flats, & boots.

Although the price seems reasonable, these booties do not seem that attractive to me- not even on the gorgeous models with perfectly styled clothes. I am not a fan of the fringe on the boots, let alone the the lace-up back (which seems like a lot of work to get them on). Turn them into driving mocs and you might get me on board with them. ;)

What are your thoughts on the Sienna Fringed Moccasin Booties? Do you "love it" or would you "leave it"? Have you seen them at a store? If so, please share with us your review. :)

Quick Poll: Do you like the Sienna Fringed Moccasin Booties?

  1. I saw these too and thought that they were very strange?? If I have $88 to spend @ J crew it will be on another Frances Cami- not these!

  2. I'm not really a fan, I think I'm with you on turning them into driving mocs. Now THAT I could love!

  3. They are OK, I like moccasins, but I agree that the lace back could be a pain and they are very casual. I would probably consider purchasing them for aounr $40, not $88. However, they have the same offering in Crewcuts, and I might consider purchasing them for my daughter (provided they do not come with the same laces in the back).

  4. Even if these were on sale I would not buy them to wear outside of the house!
These are not flattering in anyway...

  5. I could have done without the fringe going down the outer side. But I don't mind the back lacing. I'm thinking it makes it easier to fit different size calves and you don't have to mess with zippers. I voted Nope to these.

  6. If you channel Sienna Miller or Kate Moss, these are for you. Me, not so much...

  7. I actually sort of adore these :) They would look so cute over matchstick or toothpick pants, especially the overdyed denim? Also I would wear them with skirts. They just seem to have a lot of character. I love the fringe, I think it is a fantastic little detail. Call me crazy, but I really find these adorable :)

  8. Tortoise Juliets for Fall: swoon.
    Pocahontas mocs: not so much.

  9. I am on a total hunt for moccasins. The ones I really want are Manimals for $160, so I might spend half of that on these from JCrew. I think they would be so cute with tights and skirts this fall.

  10. OT--

Saw a velvet Bella jacket in the sale section this morning. Black, size 8. Didn't check to see how many are in stock.

  11. PS-- found it with search term "velvet." It's not in the jacket portion of the sale page.

  12. I'm on the fence on these, although the look is pretty popular for fall, I'm seeing styled with a lot of things. I was considering a pair of Uggs that are very similar, but they have the wool lining that would make them warm enough for winter wear. The back laces seem like they would be a PITA but maybe it's not as bad as it sounds. I have the short suede shearling boots from J.Crew 2008 that are the same look minus the fringe and may just stick with that.

  13. This look has been very popular up here in Canada for a few year. I think it is super cute but feel it is a bit "young" for me (mid 30s with a couple of kids)

  14. They are the kind of shoes I would never buy, not even for $5. They are not my thing.

  15. I'll swagger barefoot through my day before I don fringed suede booties.

  16. I've seen similar versions of these moccasin booties in the Sundance catalog, and for little girls in stores. I think they're cute, and I like it when J Crew steps a little away from their strictly preppy stuff.

I think fifteen years ago I would have worn these with my cat eye sunglasses and thrift store leopard print coat and loved them. But these days, I think I'd look pretty silly in them so I'll save them for my daughter.

  18. These are the Uggs I am considering. They are also online at VS. These are actual boots though, I think.

  19. Tne mocs are not my thing, but, to each his own....

OT - Was in the Collection store last night talking with one of the PS, and found out that the $800 gorgeous lace top has already sold out! Apparently they have been taking orders all week, and shipping them out.... I saw it in person, it is super lovely....

  20. I am a big moccasin fan. Always have been. I have a pair I wear as slippers and another street pair. Not sure about these JC ones but I am a fan of this shoe style in general.

  21. These are weird. I try to avoid anything with fringe.

I tried on the Frances cami last night, only to discover that the ruffle that goes around the collar is raw edged and was already fraying. I can't wear clothing with frayed edges to work so this one will be a pass for me.

  22. Marietta,

I would be wary of any PS telling you something is already selling out, especially at the collection store. Every time I am in the collection store and ask about an item, I always get, "yes, we are selling out of that one..." Then I go and check the website and the same item has plenty available. I bet she was just trying to encourage you to place an order for one.

  23. OT--Attention, DC-area JCAs!

I received an email last week from a personal shopper at the Pentagon City store inviting me to shop the new Fall arrivals before the store opens this coming Sunday-- and offering 20% off purchases of $125+ if I come with at least 2 friends! My understanding is that the promotion would apply to everyone, not just me. If you're interested, please email me at jackienolley (at) yahoo.com. Thanks!

  24. I think they're kind of fun for a late summer/early fall slouchy look. I'd pair them with some shorts, a vintage print tee, and layer with a vest and/or a nubby, comfy jacket. A scarf would be a nice finish. Just an easygoing, semi-funky outfit.

  25. Marietta, did you receive your wool pencil skirt yet?

*fingers crossed it is a winner*

  26. @Kate:

Have you looked at Zappos? I ordered a great pair of fringe moccasin boots from a brand called Minnetonka several years back and still wear them. The style similar to the Jcrew ones retail for around $60.

    http://www.zappos.com/womens-minnetonka-boots

I will definitely want these boots when they go on sale. I agree with Bekah--they'll look great with some dark-wash skinny jeans, a button down and a school boy blazer.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I like the Minnetonka version better. The sole on the Siennas looks the same as last winter's Cordova boot, which I did not like at all. The back zip would be much more functional than a lace-up too. I'm sure I had some of these when I was in high school and if not for the giant purge I completed last year they would probably still be around in my "shoe museum" aka storage room.

Thank you for sharing the link Emily.

  28. Has anyone just gotten an order that's not right? i placed an exchange order for the downtown field jacket and the contrast-stitch perfect shirt, and got a package yesterday containing no jacket and a different shirt, though it was in my size. (Extremely frustrated - leaving town later today for nearly two months and I ordered these two things specifically because I needed them for my trip.)

  29. A big fat NOPE! Sometimes you need to look past fashion and trends and think about whether something is flattering or not!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Flattering is in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes comfort is important too. Some people have been wearing this style for ever and will continue to do so, trend or no trend.

  31. ShuLvr - yes, I did receive it, but I had family in from Arizona so no chance to try it on. They just left, so as soon as I get home tonight I will try it on and post my thoughts.... sorry for the delay!

Cass - you are probably right! Although, she knew I wasn't going to place an order, since I told her that as beautiful as it is, it was way too expensive for me....

  32. I am so happy to hear that many of you were surprised to see the booties for sale by J.Crew too. For a minute, I thought I was the only one doing a double-take on these. ;)

However, I also agree with many of you that we all have different tastes and styles- which is great. Especially since it means we all won't be fighting over the same items in the sale section! :)

La Belle Helene: You are hysterical! I loved your line!!! :)

Em: I didn't know the Francis had raw edges that frayed. That definitely is a good thing to know beforehand- thanks for sharing! :)

  33. I love them especially in gray ... they look great on tres tippy (check her blog ... trestippy.com)

  34. ShuLvr - the skirt is awesome! It is a textured boucle wool, similar to the sparkle plaid wool skirt... they are also both similar in shape. The skirt hits higher at the waist, and goes to the bottom of my knees. I am only 5' 1.5", so if you are taller it would probably hit right at your knees. I don't know if I will get it shortened, I like the look of a longer pencil skirt, especially when worn with tall boots. I would say the clor is similar to a dusty blossom, interchanged with deep rose. It is lined as well. I ordered my usual size, so it is TTS. The skirt is definitely a keeper!

  35. Hey Marietta, thanks for the report back on the skirt. It sounds lovely and I plan to order it this weekend. I need to pare down my >$1K shopping cart first! Must remember, it is not a wish list. LOL

I am not familiar with the sparkle plaid wool skirt. Is the new skirt sparkly or is there just a metallic sheen to some of the fabric? I have the python-print pencil, which is too sparkly for my office but hubby likes so I wear it for evening. It's hard to tell the details sometimes, even with the zoom.

And how will you style it, have you decided?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi ShuLvr - no, it doesn't have any sparkle to it, I just meant that they were similar in fit and shape (although I have the sparkle plaid skirt, it's nowhere near as sparkly as the python print one. I wear it to work all the time!). I haven't really thought about what I'd pair with it, I can't fully wrap my head around fall clothes yet. But, I did order the maya cardigan, which I saw paired with the skirt and had liked. I'm also thinking the deep rose frances will look awesome with it! I'm sure you will love the skirt as much as I do!

  38. I wore these back in the 80's when it was cool to look like Stevie Nicks. I think I can pass at my age.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Marietta,

Do you know if the lace cami came in sizes only up to an 8?

    Thanks,
    Kate

  40. Kate - unfortunately I do not know.... the Collection store in NY were sending them out when I was in, you can always call and ask them.... maybe they have some left! Good luck!

  41. Madewell had a very similar pair of mocs last fall. Those sold out (I know because I waited too long to buy mine), so maybe J Crew figured they'd give them a go.

  42. I bought these moccasins and they are too cute on!! I have had so compliments, I love them!!
