J.Crew Email: New styles just added to final sale. In stores and online.

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who let us know about J.Crew's latest email.

J.Crew is letting us know that new styles have been added to their final sale, both online (click here) and in stores. Many JCAs confirmed this news as they mentioned seeing an increase of sale items, as well as pop-backs, at today's sale update. However, a lot of JCAs also mentioned that they are holding out, in order to purchase the new Fall arrivals instead.

Are you planning to check out J.Crew's Final Sale section? Are there any items you are surprised to see on sale? :)

  2. I checked it out and got two pairs of shorts I had been eyeing for 19.99 apiece. Also added sone ride-alongs to make the $150 minimum for free shipping. Can't wait to receive my things!

  3. I'm waiting for extra 20-30% off plus FS. If not, I'm holding out for the new fall items.

  4. I managed to snag a pair of suiting pants that were marked down about $80 on popback as well as the knotted linen jacket that was just reduced. Added a patent leather jeans belt in basic black and used the free shipping code.

I'm looking forward to some fall items as well and happy to pick up some basics in the meantime.

  5. Wearing my new cord matchsticks & new cashmere v-neck sweater in sandalwood, just received the ruffle flats, bellflower (heaven) and Frances. Have the new velvet jacket in black--a heavenly teal silk lining. [When you wear the cashmere sweaters until a silk-lined jacket, the piling is vastly reduced.]

** However, where did the "Collections" choice go on the web? Anyone know? **

  6. I just got three more of the Summerweight V-neck Cardigans (item #13888) after seeing it on a SA over at Polaris Monday night. Now I'll have it in nearly every color...(already having buyer's remorse after that not-so-small binge the other day on the New Fall Arrivals. Yikes!)

  7. I tried the eden blazer and really wanted to love it due to the colors and fabric but the thin shawl collar really does not work for me!

  8. Can anyone comment on the fit of the Distressed vintage slim jean in antique destroyed wash (item 12068)? FS makes me so nervous with certain items... I only own the bootcut jeans and I'm wondering how these compare fit-wise. darashapiro(at)gmail

  9. OT - Can anyone comment on the age-limit for the ribbon-front top? Maybe that sounds silly but I would love to get it for a very special friend of mine as I think it is really her style. She's in her late 30's and I'm not sure if it's just too cutesy and young or if anyone can wear it.

And please, don't respond saying that anyone can wear anything at any age because I hear you on that attitude but I'm looking for a different perspective here. Personally, I don't think I could wear it myself due to my pencil arms, but it is pretty cute and for some reason I just want to get it and give it.

  11. Dara: On the distressed vintage slim, it's the same (for me). I wear 28R or 8 in JCrew jeans. I also ADORE these jeans--when I wear them with collection jackets, pearls, and heels and I always get compliments. Not just for hangin out, easy to upscale.

  12. Saw some cute sweaters, but I decided to skip the FS and buy some new fall items. Really ready for fall clothing and the season!

  13. I let myself order a couple things today since I'm returning a few when I go to Twelve Oaks tomorrow. Goodbye, Palmas, hello lavender Jackie! Also on the way are some el cheapos: cerise swing swim top and cerise and white stripe swim bottoms, and to try on for fit, the flutter scoopneck dress. I was wanted to get the ruffle sleeve dress but I think I'd be too tempted to keep it and I swear, I only ordered the flutter to TRY IT ON to see if I should order it for real when it goes way cheaper. I hope it's not too boobtacular as so many of JC empire waist jersey dresses are. I'm wishing they'd make D-cup size in the dresses too, not just swim. I even tried sizing up in a couple styles and that didn't really help.

Anyway, good sale update today! I'm hopeful there will be another % off with free ship soon, looks like JC is slowly coming back around with the promos being better.

  14. Awesome thanks! Now if only J Crew would send us another coupon code...please J Crew...pleassssse!

    ReplyDelete
  15. dickfiddy - If you think it's her style, get it for her. You are probably correct. I honestly think the right person could wear it, regardless the age. I don't think it's too cutesy or young and some bloggers have referenced Chanel (I think) in comparison.

Dara - I usually wear a 28 in JCrew, but the distressed slim ran big, imo. I would call CS and ask for measurements.

Regarding final sale -- I have tried to include all style numbers on J Crew items. If you put the # in the search field (upper left), a post will be found if I have reviewed it. Also, I've recently started using the exact name J Crew uses in the post title or at least in the body of the post. So if it has a hyphen, I've kept it in there. This has helped me when I get caught up in popbacks and final sale.

  17. OT - but just rec'd the boden catalog & they have some really cute jackets in US size 16 (which JC is sorely lacking). Thinking of order some (free shipping + 15% btw). Any comments of fit/quality of boden, jackets specifically?
    thanks!

  18. Hmm everything that was in my cart this a.m. magically vanished. really weird...;-(

  19. dickfiddy, I tried on the bow top and laughed outloud. My personel opinion--for gals in their twenties/maybe early 30's.

I bought the eden blazer.Gorgeous fit and style on me! Instant love! Also picked up two more fall items. I am not tempted by final sale updates.

  20. mod maude: I tend to find that boden runs slightly smaller than average. I usually fit a P10/8 in J crew jackets (broad shoulders, a little...ahem..."endowed") and I take the UK14 size for sweaters for layering room. I would go with boden's size conversions and size up only if you want a looser/more casual fit.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am 37 and bought the bow top and LOVE IT! Don't care if I am "too old"...it fits me and my personality perfectly. As soon as I saw it, I knew I was going to own it!

    ReplyDelete
  22. mod maude: as for the jackets, if you like the schoolboy blazer look (which JC has but not in sz 16), gap has a navy and a brown herringbone version, shrunken so should fit feminine, for $98. Plus tomorrow it will be 30% off with the F&F coupon. I am going to try it out. I have found Boden jackets to fit tts (i.e. if I take a 16 US I take an 18 UK).

  23. Snagged a few ringspun tees for $9.99- I love these and now possibly own every color. Pretty sure I am totally done with Final Sale and moving onto Fall.

Hopefully my new Frances cami will arrive today:)

    ReplyDelete
  24. jcrewlover- what is the fabric like on the bow top? I love the look, but I made the HUGE mistake of ordering the strati metallic tank and hate the fabric so am now more leary of some of the fabric descriptions.

  25. I was surprised to see some things from last month's rollout on final sale. I am also surprised that I am considering ordering a sweater that was just added (if they do a 20% off FS promo). I thought I was done with summer stuff, but I am still dragging my feet on ordering one or two things from the August catalog. I think I am a bit uninspired by the new rollout, and also more determined to hold out until fall stuff goes on sale. June was a dismal month for retailers, and consumer confidence is low-hopefully this will mean more deals in the future.

  26. For Dara, and others, on jeans fit:

I was reading gigiofca's comment on the distressed vintage slim--she has a great blog--and I was wondering why we had different experiences with FIT on these. She said they ran big, in her opinion.

So I checked the fit description for the item 12068:
"Sits on hips, slightly away from the body"

Now it makes sense--I liked the fit they were going for, but I guess if you wanted these to fit the way all your other jeans fit, they could seem a bit big. These barely fit away from my body and I love that on distressed.

  27. I'm considering ordering the Sateen Saturday skirt in Caspian blue or the Dark Mushroom Rumpled Safari skirt. I'm looking for a casual skirt to wear with lots of t's or tanks and basically wear it instead of shorts. Can anyone steer me in a direction? I'm guessing the sateen fabric makes the Saturday skirt dressier than what I want. Any thought? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thank you for the responses on the Ribbon bow top. I don't mean to offend anyone with my question, it's truly a matter of personal style at any age. I just wanted to know in a general sense if people felt it was designed for a very young look. Maybe I'll pass. It does seem quite summery and not a good fall transition piece.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Know what, dickfiddy? I think the tshirt would look great with pearls and a black tweedy jacket! Very chic but not too young of a look. Just a thought :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Twiga:

The ribbon top is made in the same material as the Meringue top, a cotton-silk blend. There is a slight sheen to it. I was hoping it was going to be a crisp poplin type cotton. Also, it runs big IMO, and I can't size down.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I wanted the Petra Nubuck shoes but the sale price went UP to $149.99 from $99.99. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  32. twiga-it's a cotton/silk blend, very light and airy. I personally thought it ran a but small to tts, the hips area is always small on me as I am wider in that dept. I think it will make a great transition piece for fall...now with black cafe capris, and in the fall with a velvet blazer or black cashmere cardi. can't wait to wear it~!

    ReplyDelete
  33. i agree with tweedy that the ribbon bow top could look very chic under a jacket...i was thinking of it under a velvet blazer. the right accessories would definitely make the look more charlotte york and less blair waldorf. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I received a pair of classic fit light weight wool pants in light charcoal yesterday. Got them on sale for $69 marked down from $98. Great fit, nice fabric so I thought I should grab another pair in a different colour. They are back to the regular price now.

The pants are new, actually from the new arrivals. Why were they on sale so early and now back to the regular price?

    ReplyDelete
  35. dickfiddy, I just turned 40and I just bought the bow top. It's a timeless piece, very chic IMO. Also it is a GREAT transition piece under cardigans and jackets. The only problem with the top is that it runs a little bit big from thechest down. I think it would make a PERFECT present though (and it doesn't fit she can always exchange it). I will have a post soon on it but in themeanwhile you can check my pic from the fitting room (and the comments) in my post here

  36. Dara - Here is my post on the vintage slim (16426) http://gigisgoneshopping.blogspot.com/2009/07/old-navy-boyfriend-weekend-jeans.html

    Professor - thanks! :-)

crewcrazy - I have a blog post of the Saturday sateen skirt set up for tomorrow. It's not sateen-y. I already returned it, but I recall it being a flat cotton...maybe with a little sheen like the pencil skirt from early spring. Maybe it's the band at the bottom that's more satin. I ordered a 4, would definitely need a 2. I didn't get "the feeling" in it. Also, there is pleating at the rear waist and it adds to the booty if you already have one.

    ReplyDelete
  37. OK, now I've changed my mind and I'm going to buy her the Ribbon top. It is very pretty and sounds like it will be transitional too. And, as mentioned, she can return or exchange if it doesn't work out.

Thanks so much everyone who chimed in!

    ReplyDelete
  38. dickfiddy- I just bought the ribbon front top in ivory and LOVE it. It was a very impulsive by (I usually like to wait for sales or at least a coupon) but I am extremely happy with my purchae. Part of what convinced me to buy it was that I can see myself wearing it ten years from now (I am 30 now) so I didn't mind paying full price. As far as sizing goes, it is a little boxy but my PS said that's how it's supposed to fit and part of the reason it looks so cute with toothpick jeans. I have been finding that almost everything has fit big lately but this actually felt true to size if that helps at all. The size zeros have been big on my lately but this one felt just right. What a great gift and what a great friend for giving it!

  39. Dayum, ladies, how can you afford to do so much shopping all the time, LOL? I'm envious! And can't wait to hear the reviews of all the fall merch.

Dickfiddy, FWIW, I love the bow top and I'm 38. I think it's lovely and could look appropriate for any age depending on how you wear it. I think the other JCA's idea of pairing it with a jacket is perfect. Hope your friend likes it!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Gigiofca - Thanks for the comments. I'll wait until tomorrow and check out your blog. And yes - I have a booty that does not need any help getting noticed.

  41. I just checked out new-arrivals at two stores. I am not excited about either quality or design of those new arrivals. They can't be compared with Fall items of 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. I think jcrew is cutting back its investment.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Just received the Saturday twist dress (as a RA). It's TTS, short (hits about midthigh on my 5'5" frame) and the twist is flattering, although it is placed so low on the chest that there is going to be some front bra showing, or you'd be constantly adjusting the twist to make sure it doesn't show. Oddly, the seam on the skirt part goes right up the front (which is visible if you zoom in on the picture of it, I didn't notice it). The jersey feels substantial and the shadow color is gorgeous - I think this will likely go to markdowns, though, so it's going back for now.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks for the info on the twist dress, silver_lining. I need to stay a"breast" of the jersey dress topic myself. That's always the problem area for me with most of JC stuff.

Just tried on my new cashmere four pocket cardigan and it is super cute. The dimensions are just a little funny, it's almost a cropped shape but the sleeves are really long. But the material is great, it's the third summerweight cashmere piece I've gotten from JC and it seems to hold up really well, and pill so little compared to the 12 gauge and lower cashmere. The color is a lovely light seafoam green and there is a pretty grosgrain on the inside of the placket. The teensy pockets are a cute touch, but nonfunctional on such a lightweight sweater. Anything heavier than two gummy bears would probably be too much for them to bear. The price is really great, especially since I got it with the extra % off.

(Sorry for the puns, I'm working on a sleep deficiency right now- humor is sorely lacking today!)

  44. I think I'm getting into the fall mentality now (thanks to school starting on MONDAY-ugh!) so no final sale purchases for me.

For those of you who are interested in the the vintage cord pencil skirt, I received mine yesterday in the glazed pecan. It is different than last year's cord pencil skirt in that there are no pockets anymore (boo) and they have moved the zipper/tab to the back so that it will lay flat (yay!) Last year's front zip/tab never would stay flat for me, so this is a good upgrade. I do miss the pockets, but it is not enough to send it back. The pecan color is gorgeous IRL...there is a pic on my blog if you're interested!

  45. Ok...I have a question.
Has anyone tried on the Merino Petal Scoopneck Sweater? I've been eyeing it online, and it's already on sale! I'm confused because: 1) it says in the description that it's 3/4 sleeves, but the picture clearly makes the sleeves look long and 2) the description calls it scoopneck, but it looks v-neck to me.
    Thanks for any help!!!
p.s. In the new August catalog there is a picture of the Sateen Saturday skirt. It looks VERY short on the model. Sadly, we didn't get it at our B & M. Not sure what to think of it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Just came back from my B&M (second time this week). I tried on a few more things. The sequined crest tee.. looks very nice on. I prefer it over the rose tees. I also tried on the Lexington jacket look-alike. It's very nice, substantial, feels great.. I hope it comes in petite sizing because the 0 was a bit long on me.

It took some will power to walk out of the store empty handed...I'm waiting for the private Customer Appreciation event with my personal shopper on Sunday: 20% off of $125. I think many of the stores are having a similar event.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hey there all. I just received a bunch of new fall arrivals, mostly the new cardigans (merino ethereal, whirling ruffles, corsage) and a couple of tees. I've reviewed them on my blog here.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Received my first fall arrivals today, thought I'd mention the Maya cardi because I havent seen it reviewed yet. Doesn't work for me, going back. Lovely colors, fits TTS, but the folds at the front placket add significant BULK to an area on me that doesn't require more! I'm 5'3", proportions might be more flattering on someone a bit taller. Sticking to flat front cardis ...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ruffles, thanks for mentioning the Maya! I think I feel kind of the same way about the Saturday twist-front dress... the twist at the bust is cute, but then there's a lot of extra fabric at the belly. This made me think of our fabulous JCA, Slastena - the Saturday might make a cute maternity dress! :)

  50. Some great IRL photos of fall merch including the Evening Primrose cardi on Life is Short...Buy the Shoes :

    http://audreybella.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  51. Is the Lexington look-alike people keep talking about the Wool Schoolboy blazer or is there a retail only version that has the piping around the front? I know there is a different blazer pictured in the lookbooks....

    ReplyDelete
  52. dickfiddy,
I would go with your first instincts on the bow top. I just turned 38 and I think it is is a little overpriced for the quality and a bit too cutsey (and I am into cutesy) but a bow across the chest--something my 8 year old wears or the teenager next door! Might I suggest the evening primrose cardigan--that gift would make me swoon!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Lauren H, there is a wool blazer in the retail stores that has Lexington-esque piping. But the wool isn't as soft and it's not nearly as cute as the Lexington, in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Lauren H - The Lexington-like blazer is called the wool herringbone Professor blazer (17375), $198. I haven't seen it in-store yet.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The herringbone professor blazer is in stores. I got it last night. :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I was in store a few minutes ago and saw the above jacket. I thought the wool was really soft but the color was pretty basic. I wanted something with more flare!

    ReplyDelete
  57. OK All - Completely swoonworthy, I just received my Anton sweater. Let me tell you how I love this sweater. The collar sits up just a little around the neck to add a little flair and style. The button, when closed, makes the sweater look and function like a jacket. I ordered the medium and the large because I was unsure of the fit. The fit was not that different between the two and if I still lived and worked in the city would def. keep the medium. However, am a SAHM now, so am going to go with the slightly looser large. This was ordered in the black color, will be ordering another color too, probably camel as it is a great basic for years to come. The material is thick and soft. Not sure about pilling, but that is not a big issue for me as I am a dab hand with the sweater shaver. This would be loved with the Frances or the Ribbon Bow tank. Oh how I wish they would do a Collection version of this for winter in thick cashmere like the Janelle from last year. Would buy it at full price!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Can't find the Professor Blazer on the JC site by name or by number!

    ReplyDelete
  59. jessie b. - thank you for the review of the anton. I've had my eyes on it but wanted to wait and see it in a store. My PS said it was hitting stores on Aug. 11.
