This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
OT, because no Madewell Aficionada exists (yet...) - new arrivals on the Madewell site this morning. Again, they are killing it. Also offering complimentary monogramming on select leather pieces which I may partake in and get some of my holiday shopping done early! : )
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, I love that Military Swing Coat (item b1976). That one might have to be mine!
DeleteAgree - Madewell has taken over my wallet. New arrivals on top of my huge wish list from last new arrivals. Wishing I could have bought more on the 30% promo. Boots, coats, scarves, sweatshirts, tees...the list goes on.
DeleteAh, maybe they had that recent % off promo since new arrivals were on the way. Because of all the positive buzz on this site, I finally visited a Madewell store this weekend!
DeleteI am loving their Looks We Love.
DeleteI have never purchased anything at Madewell before, but I recently popped my Madewell cherry and got the Maud flats in pale fig and they are a dream. So cushiony and comfy and well made... or Made well (HA!)
DeleteI also ordered the monogrammed transport tote like last week and now there's free monogramming GRRR
A review of the J. Crew Collection Garnet Tweed Skirt here The pattern is absolutely stunning in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteFactory Gigi pant (the plain ones, side-zip): LOVE these pants. They're a very substantial stretchy ponte knit. I'd say midrise. I took my usual Minnie size & they're a perfect fit. Not too tight but not sloppy either. I bought both the navy & the black & wish they came in a grey or dark brown.
ReplyDeleteFactory jeweled-front oxford: I feel like this runs slightly large - I'm a typical 6/8 or medium in tops & the medium in this is a little big, particularly in the shoulder seams. It doesn't bother me too much though as I intend on wearing it out over skinny pants. I think it would be too awkward tucked in to a skirt or pants. The jewels are lovely. The oxford cloth is very, very substantial - in fact it was difficult to button & unbutton when I tried it on for the first time. Another downer is the fact I'll have to steam it before I wear it, & then of course it will have to be dry-cleaned. Still a great top though.
Factory flannel in the grey & mustard plaid: LOVE this one. It's thin but not too thin so it will be fantastic for layering. It's super-soft & true-to-size. I love the navy & pink running through the plaid too. Can't wait to start pairing it with all kinds of things once it starts to cool down enough to wear it!
I thought I would share a Crewcuts review for any ladies out there who are curious. I recently purchased the Boys Secret Wash Shirt in gingham in a Size 16, I'm usually a size XX/XXS in tees or sweaters and a Size 4 or 6 in button downs. It has a button down collar and a nice pattern of checks, not too big or bright. I purchased it in Periwinkle. It's a little long, it comes down to the top of my thighs (I'm 4'10") but it fits nice in the arm length and chest. I can button it all the way up without straining the buttons, fitted but not too tight. Overall it's a winner, I'll probably buy more. Hope that helps someone :-)
ReplyDeleteTried on the schoolboy in houndstooth. Fit is TTS just like the other schoolboy blazers by JCrew. I love the orange on the collar but not sure how to wear a blazer with the collar up, even though it looks pretty cute on the model on the website. Quality is good as well and they have a tall version. Undecided if worth full price so it's on my wishlist for now.
ReplyDeleteI bought the pleated bib top recently - in the pale pink - I love love it, fit is TTS (I'm 5' 10" and a 36A, got it in size 6). Now how will all those pleats hold up after washing I have no idea, but the blouse itself is so nice and looks great under cardigans and blazers for Fall. Bought the ray-ban cat eye wayfarer on a recent %off promo and love them. Great quality, great look and they're made in Italy. Also am a big fan of the merino v neck cardigans this year. Taking those in my usual size (M) and love the weight of the merino and that they are shorter - hitting at mid hip.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone here tried the collection paisley blouse? There's one (negative) review on the web site but the fact that it continues to be sold out in almost every size suggests to me that someone must like it.
ReplyDeleteIt's one of the few items this season that I've really been excited about, so am tempted to nab one the next time my size pops back but $325 is definitely more than I'm used to paying for a shirt.
Have it and love it. The colors are beautiful, very fall. I took my normal size 8. It runs TTS to slightly large, wish I could have tried a size 6. It is longer than most J Crew blouses. I'm 5'10 and it hits me low hip, almost tunic length.
DeleteOoh, that's great to know. I saw some reviews of the dress that said it ran small, so I was thinking maybe I needed to size up. My resistance is definitely waning. Thanks so much!

ReplyDeleteA review of the J. Crew Sophie Embroidered Loafers here HTH!
ReplyDeletePlaid scarf - apricot lavender colorway. I absolutely love the colors in this scarf, even though the apricot looks more camel to me than apricot. It has so many different shades of color: black, grey, cream, tan, camel, teal, lavender. The fabric is thin, but the size makes the scarf substantial without being heavy. I think it will be quite warm
ReplyDeleteThe downside, the fabric is a bit scratchy and itchy. I may return it for this reason, but I really love the colors. So will think a bit before I decide.
Has anyone tried the Lambswool Zip, Lambswool Pointelle or Boiled Wool Zip sweaters? I'd love to hear your houghts about weight, sizing, color etc. I am seriously craving some new sweaters.
'thoughts' not 'houghts'. Thanks!
DeleteDoes anyone know if hand washing the scarf in Laundress will soften the scarf and remove the itch factor?
DeleteMaryeb,i love the colors of this scarf too.
DeleteIts on my wishlist!
OT: I don't buy often final sale items at a J.Crew store, and I can't remember how their policy works again.
ReplyDeleteI bought a few weeks ago the Merino leather pocket sweater that is on sale at the store for $109.99. I had asked the cashier if the extra 40% is a final sale, and he said yes. So when he rung me up, i looked at the receipt, and did not see a 'FINAL SALE' printed on the receipt.
Do you think I may still have a chance to return the sweater, if not exchange for a store credit?
Or is seeing the 40% off on the receipt, automatically makes it a final sale item, and cannot be returned or exchanged? The last time I had a final sale marked on my receipt, was when it was physically stamped in red by a cashier.
I like the sweater, it runs big. I bought an XS, and thought I should size down to an XXS.
Thanks in advance!
JSR - the red stamp doesn't matter. It has to say 40% off final sale printed on the receipt, below the item description. It's wording that gets applied based on the code that the cashier scanned. If you don't see final sale printed on there, it ain't final sale ;) HTH

DeleteJSR - Forgot to mention if you only wanted a size exch, they probably would've done it for you in either case.
DeleteMy store always lets me exchange for a different size when its final sale.
DeleteThey oncw told me that they can see if its final sale at the .99 ending and it doesnt have to say Final Sale.
Thanks, Ina and Gigi!
DeleteIna - If your store thinks items ending in .99 are final sale, that's not true. If they take an addtl % off and don't use a barcode that puts the final sale wording on there then it's returnable within 30 days. SAs get this confused, so anyone who has question, should go by the receipt. I'd take it to mgmt if you believe you're erroneously denied a return or exchange.
DeletePicked up the slim soft heather twill shirt in Glen plaid #a9547 with the 25% off code and this one is a winner! Slim but not a tight fit in the softest cotton feels to me like a flannel shirt that you've had for years since it's so soft. The plaid is a little strong but that is what make's it different. I also got the tie they featured with it in the Style Guide (English silk tweed tie in rich aubergine #b1831) and together they are perfect. Plan to wear it with either dark charcoal wool Ludlow slim plants or a ones in navy.
ReplyDeleteThe shirt is in very limited amounts and over the past week the website showed it as sold out. Well worth getting if you can find it.
That is a great looking shirt. I like the idea of pairing it with the aubergine tie. Thanks for the review. I really need some ideas for my holiday shopping.
DeleteJCrewGuy I thought that shirt would be a winner, wish it were offered in tall. I just had a huge order land on my front porch for my husband and son, they both need tall shirts and while I appreciate the selection at JCrew sometimes my hubs and son miss the good ones.
DeleteI did buy that English silk tweed tie for my son in the blue, it is just gorgeous (it's offered in adriatic blue in tall sizes which are so brilliant, when my son wears a regular tie it is very short on his frame, he is 6'4"). Very nice quality and lovely texture, it's a super handsome tie and not typical in the tweed,
I always like your reviews JCGuy you have great taste!
Thanks ladies. Just got the October Style Guide and it's ...... okay. Not nearly as many "if I don't get that life will end" items as September.
DeleteStill too warm to wear all this great fall stuff. Is it wrong to wish for cooler temperatures?
JCGuy I'm wishing for cooler temps too but I think it's a case of Be Careful What You Wish For. I hear we're in for another bad winter but a real autumn would be nice first!
DeleteI agree the Oct Style Guide was underwhelming, not enjoying the catalogues like I used to that's for sure and not buying clothes for myself very often, but the men's offerings are still great and wonderful quality *knocks on wood*

DeleteDaniBP; I completely agree that the men's design team is going an awesome job. Strong stylish looks and the quality is very good for the $$. I wonder how much of the styling on the women's side is throwing customers off? When I am in the store the items look good and not as sloppy as the Style Guide presents them to be. Maybe the people styling men can help out?
DeleteRegarding winter, again you're right. I really just want to wear the new fall stuff I've bought; but like they say in Game of Thrones "winter is coming."
jcrew guy in Canada - Thanks for the recommendation of the Slim Soft Heather Twill Shirt in Glen Plaid. It was sold out in my son's size so I had my VPS get it overnighted so I could hand deliver it to him tomorrow. I think he'll love it! I would have completely missed out on it had it not been for your review. Thanks!!

ReplyDeleteA few quick reviews:
ReplyDeleteWhisper jersey nightgown: it says drapey fit,but its def not drapey.I ordered the xs and it is fitted and short on me(and i am short).
Love the soft feel and the navy color.
I would say size one up if you want the drapey fit.
Black/white buffalo plaid shirt: This one is TTS. It is supposed to be a flannel shirt, but its def not flannel. It is still soft and has more of a gauz-y feel. The white is more of a cream.
The Ropes bracelet: It is a very thick rope and even though it is 9inches long,it just barelet fits my small wrist. Love the design and colr(navy), but i have to get used to the bulky-ness of it.
Still,i love it.
I will have pics of my stuff in the next couple of days im case anybody os interested ( on my blog).
I just purchased the Roxie printed leather pumps and I love them. I wear 7 in most brands but I sized up to 7.5. They are roomy but the 7 wouldn't fit me well. Now I am itching to purchase the Elsie in the printed leather and I am not sure whether I should go again with a 7.5 or a 7. It's final sale, so I don't want to get it wrong. Anyone here has purchased them and can give me some feedback?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Review of the Dutch Floral Pencil Skirt, Harper Black suede flats, georgie vintage red tassel loafers here:
ReplyDeletehttp://onecantgetoverthehabit.blogspot.ca/2014/09/j-crew-review-dutch-floral-pencil-skirt.html
The skirt is not a good fit for someone with no butt or hips (i.e. me) but is beautiful! Love both of the shoes!
I got the size down in the Stadium Cloth Cocoon Coat. The bigger size was too big overall and too long. This one fits much better, but I don't think I can put more than a t-shirt thickness under it. I'll have to try it on again with a sweater to see if it would work. The length is much better in the smaller size, but I wish there were more room in the shoulders. When I zip it closed, it's snug, which I really don't like, but realistically I'll wear it open most of the time. I guess it's just not a good fit on me this year.

ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen the lady day coat in verdigris or misty lilac in person? I'm planning on ordering one today before the promo is over, but I can't decide between those two colors. Does anyone have any thoughts on the verdigris vs. the misty lilac? Any recommendations would be appreciated!
