This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
ReplyDeleteA few reviews here.
Today's Shoes-day Post is of the Isabelle Houndstooth Pumps.
ReplyDeleteFactory Early Access is up. I reviewed the Excursion Vest in Buffalo Blue last week. It's a good deal at $75.50 plus the Gilt 30% coupon.
DeleteRacked has photos of the new 2015 spring collection from NYFW. Funny title "J Crew jumps aboard the oversize train" LOL
ReplyDeleteWhoops - here's the link:

OMG. Way... too... many... bermuda shorts! Holy flashback. I will be passing on that trend if it does indeed become one.

DeleteWTF are those cropped, wide-leg, medium-wash jeans?! Please, please no... is anyone actually going to buy those?
DeleteUgh, and enough with the blue and yellow already!
And the Bermuda short thing never had sufficient time away in order to be making a comeback, in my opinion. It's like J.Crew is trying to work a so-ten-years-ago thing, and not in a good way.
Those are my vents. Phew.
I popped in yesterday to check out the shiny puffer vest, thinking the green would be my choice. The green color is lighter than I'd imagined, though it matches fairly closely to the website photo in which the model is wearing the vest (the shot of the vest alone looks darker). I ended up preferring the dark cranberry color, and went with a M (the ones I own are almost all size S-my general size is 10, M/L-the S in this style felt short and tight, while the medium was still somewhat flattering).
ReplyDeleteI also tried on the Merino Shirttail Sweater in Liberty Tiny Poppytot Floral-it was beautiful in person, and had such gorgeous Fall colors. Sadly, the proportions were off on me (busty, almost 6' tall)-boxy and none too long. I felt the shirttail fabric (gorgeous-felt like cotton/silk blend) was too lightweight to anchor the look, if that makes sense. It looked like one piece, which made me think of the 90's sweaters with built-in dickies ;)
Lastly, I tried the pleated lattice skirt in hidden floral. Surprisingly, I loved this (polyester sounded icky to me). Although it's too short for me (extended sizes would've been nice), I gave this skirt serious thought. My store was sold out of the pink, and starting to get limited in sizing for the navy. Good news for some is being able to size up to gain a bit of length-I tried the next size up, as my size was unavailable. I think it would work for many, unless perhaps if you are small-waisted. The one I tried on had several loose threads, which may not bode well for longevity. In-store price same as online ($79.99 pre-30%).
HTH someone :)
A review of the endless shirt here
ReplyDeletePosting a "meh" review of the Regent blazer in Vintage Red.
ReplyDeleteColor: I am finicky about color so I wanted to post a detailed description, especially because red is a hard color to purchase online. I would describe it as a true red, but a "light" true red. It's not lipstick (bluish), tomato or flame (orange-y), or strawberry (pinkish), but it is lighter and less "saturated" than other items I consider a true red. It's different than every other red in my JC-dominated wardrobe. Closest item is probably the red Eaton trouser.
Fit: I'm 5'4" but due to torso length I don't wear a petite well, so most of my JC jackets are regular; even so, I usually don't have to alter the sleeves. The sleeves on this jacket are noticeably longer than on other jackets, which may be nice for you taller ladies. The shape is probably better for rulers; there was not enough waist definition for my hourglass.
Style: The "popped" collar gives the effect of a stand collar, almost a Mandarin-style. I thought it was a flattering, face-framing look, like the Bella of yore. I have a long neck, so my jaw does not touch the collar even when I put my chin down, but if you have a shorter neck or blend your foundation down your neck, make-up could be an issue. Although you can flip down the collar, due to its size and the size of the lapels, it simply doesn't work down IMO. There is a contrast striped lining in black and white that shows if you want to roll up the sleeves.
Quality: For the last ten years or so, I've bought at least one novelty blazer from JC each fall. I know we all complain about the decline in quality, and this is a good example. The fabric is thinner than I expected, and something is "off" about the front, maybe the interfacing. It lacks shaping and the special details of older JC jackets.
Of course, now that I've complained about all of this, I'm not sure that I could find anything better for the price. Ordinarily I would return it and see if I changed my mind at a later markdown, but it's on backorder, so that's not an option.
Hexicon: I too was an early purchaser of this blazer in Vintage Red. I agree with every point you make. I couldn't return my blazer fast enough. Not J.Crew quality at all. Next...
DeleteI also got the regent blazer as soon as it came out (in the dark grey) and it looked horrible on me (large boobs here). I love the concept, not so much the execution.
DeleteAfter that long snarky review I feel the need to post something nice, so I will say that I looove the Madewell Rowhouse sweater. I ordered it in the "bright berry," which is a saturated true red, notwithstanding the somewhat deceptive name. The merino is lightweight and almost silky, but opaque. I ordered my usual XS, and it was a casual, slouchy fit.
ReplyDeleteThe Madewell Albion Plaid Shirt and the Maison des A.R.T.S. sweatshirt are really well made and I didn't feel bad picking them up at full price. I think the Albion plaid shirt runs slightly small as far as the Ex-Boyfriend Shirts go, so I would say if you're between sizes to size up. The Maison des A.R.T.S. sweatshirt I think runs at least a full size large, so go down one size in this. Hope this helps! I'm loving a lot of the Madewell offerings so far!
ReplyDeleteI tried the sweatshirt too and agree,it fits large.
DeleteYes, Madewell Fall collection is really nice. Like it better than JCrew
DeleteA review of the J. Crew Asymmetrical Zip Pencil Skirt in Houndstooth here HTH!
ReplyDeleteI kept seeing how cute the Miller Toothpick Ankle Jean in Descontructed wash looked on a lot of you ladies and I went in and tried them for myself and LOVE them. I took my normal sz. 29. I was told they run big, but that wasn't the case for me. I love the higher rise and that they're the perfect length on me b/c even though they're "ankle length", on me they fit perfect and I can just roll them if I want them to be ankle length. Highly recommend, especially if you can get them on promo as I did.
ReplyDeleteHi! I tried on these jeans as well but haven't bought them (yet;) I agree that they are tts. I tried me regular size and a size down. And while I could get the smaller size on I just felt uncomfortable and like I was showing too much information.
DeleteI also got them in my regular size 26 and love, love them.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the tooothpick in Parker wash? they are fab as well!!
no, but I may have to try them! Now I'm off to go try to find all the fabulous JCA's outfit pics w/these jeans. :)
DeleteI have plenty of pics on my blog (ina-wonderland.blogspot.com) and my IG account inawonderland5!
DeleteYou were one of my inspirations!! :)
DeleteCorrection: Toothpick jean in destructed Miller wash!
ReplyDeleteI love the toothpicks in deconstructed wash! I took my usual 31 size and the ankle length is perfect for my 5'2" height.
ReplyDeleteHi I ordered 3 of the RMS beauty products. The colors are very light on pigment....as in they last an hour maybe. the eyeshadow seems the best of the three.
ReplyDeleteI ordered the lip/cheek and lipshine and an eyeshadow.
I sent the mascara back before I opened it because I felt it was too expensive ...
I would not order them again.
I need products that can last through the day....maybe organic just doesn't do that.

Factory sweatshirt dress (a1626) - this is the plainest of the plain, but also just what I was looking for. Soft and body-skimming (took my usual S). The best part is that it doesn't have the triangle detail at the neckline that just about every other sweatshirt thing has lately (even the retail version of this same dress - b1918).
ReplyDeleteOT- does anyone know if Madewell transport totes ever go on sale and for usually how much? Also how do they hold up?
ReplyDeleteHi peis - in my experience, the Transport totes are usually excluded from any kind of Madewell promotion. However, I think that mainly applies to the English Saddle and Black colors - I got my Navy one on a promo + additional % off a few months ago. IMO, they are awesome bags. I use one daily to tote papers, a small laptop, and all sorts of odds and ends. They also have them at Shopbop, where I've seen discounts apply in the past - I got my English Saddle one from there with a global 25% promo about a year ago. HTH!
