"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I thought I'd order the Houndstooth Schoolboy Blazer while the promo was on, it's gotten some nice comments and is web-only. So I had a closer look at the web page.

Well, first, it isn't houndstooth. Somebody please get these people a vocabulary list and quiz them on it before turning them loose on the public. Nice restaurants do this kind of thing with new front-of house staff.

Moving on, I sometimes get a Tall in a Schoolboy Blazer, especially if I'm going to wear it over a sweater. So I looked at Tall and Regular. The measurements for the Regular are: body length: 25 ¼, sleeve length 32. The measurements for the Tall are: body length: 25 ¼, sleeve length 32. Both "hit at hip."

What was that old saying, "First you pick the order, then you put the size tag..." It's apparently been translated into many languages.

  2. During the recent Madewell 30% off sale I decided to order the Ultimate Leather Motorcycle Jacket for a loved one, unfortunately it was backordered. I didn't mind too much since it isn't cold in NYC yet and it's a popular item so some backlog should definately be expected during a sale.

However since the sale has ended on tuesday the Madewell website is showing in stock for this very item. My order status is "waitlisted" with an estimated ship date of 10/14. What's up with that? Does Madewell/Jcrew ration items during a sale?

Should I call and demand my item immediately? Thanks!

    1. Hi J.squareD. I'd just call & give your order number. Once they have it up, let them know the item is in-stock & request that they process a new order. Hope that happens for you. I've done it on the J. Crew side without a problem.

  3. A vent for both Madewell & J Crew. Because I mostly order on-line, I've gotten into the practice of requesting garment measurements from CS before ordering so I can more accurately size my purchases. I've had several instances where the sizing doesn't match at all. And lots of inconsistencies within the same size (though this isn't something new!).

And because I'm on a roll tonight, why is it when I call Madewell with a customer service issue, they tell me "well, we'll be able to do X this one time, but not again in the future" - so, what, if they make an error again, they're not going to fix it for me? Rude!!
