"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I recvd two 20% off of $100+ coupons for Factory, along w/my recent Factory order. Looks like the expiration is 9/15. Can be used in-store or online (unique code). Then we have the Gilt City coupon running for 30% off, thru 9/14. I don't know why they run 2 promos at the same time.

While we're talking about the Crewlet, I do love my puffer vest in olive moss.

  2. I placed a JCF order the other day that contained 7 items (3 items in 2 sizes each to try, and a pair of sunglasses). They are ALL shipping separately. So there is no store where most of them can be found, or the warehouse for that matter? It just seems so wasteful since once I figure out sizing, half of them will be going back.

On a side note, there appear to be a handful of new arrivals sprinkled around, as well as new Collection and denim slideshows.

  3. Still annoyed by how they show bags on the website-- just slung on an armless white half mannequin. Why can't they show on a real full size person, or an outline of one, like on nordstrom or piper lime? I'm really interested in the Shelby satchel but it looks huge on the mannequin (like an overnight bag), but according to the measurement given it would be more normal sized...

  4. A sales associate pretty much confirmed that the pencil skirts are out of the stores to me.

Mickey and Jenna can kiss the money I would have spent on new ones this winter good-bye. The colors on the website aren't true. Couple that with the cost of shipping and the horror stories I've heard about about shipping and I will spend my money elsewhere.

  5. Remember the seasons that J Crew put ruffles on absolutely everything? Next came the omnipresent sequins. Now they've gone hog wild on zippers. Someone needs tell their designers that this trend is pretty much over. But I won't be surprised if the next rollout includes zippered socks or bathing suits or cell phone covers.

  6. I don't like the sweaters with the long tails..in a different fabric. Looks like a sewing project gone terribly wrong. I've been ordering more from Boden and Anthro.

  7. I can't wait for final sale to end. There are a few things in the sale section that I am eyeing, but I'm not going to spend a cent because I don't want to get burned (again).

    1. I have found that J.Crew sales associates are very understanding about crediting returns on final sale items when I can point out something misleading or wrong about the online description (e.g., the measurement given was incorrect for length, inseam, etc.) or when the item as shown on a model does not reflect its real fit (e.g., when I bought an oversize cardigan in my usual size small which looked slightly baggy on the model but which would have fit three of me in reality). Maybe it's just the store near where I live but I have found them to be reasonable about accepting final sale returns in the store.

  8. I find the sweaters with the shirt tails on the bottom to be really fug, too. They just seem all wrong!

    LMAO re: zippers.

Sales associate confirmed to me today too that Jackies will no longer be available in the store. Or Minnies. Alexis, should this be a blog topic?! LOL.

    2. Thanks, silver_lining. I remember us talking about it. I couldn't remember if there was an actual thread. I'm getting old. LOL.

  9. Hi all! This is my first time commenting, so I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed. I went into a mall JCrew last night and browsed. Saw a few things on sale to try on, plus it was add'l 30% off sale items, so why not. As the associate was walking with me to the dressing room, she informed me that any items with a red line on the tag were the lowest possible price they were allowed to sell them at, they would be final sale, and they extra 30% off didn't apply to those items. In the dressing room I noticed that the red line wasn't necessarily on (just) the price tags, if at all...it was on the JCrew tag on the piece of clothing; or in the case of some wedges on the leather Jcrew tag on the inside sole of the shoe.

Has anyone else had this experience? It's possible I'm weirded out/caught off guard for no reason, but it really surprised me. I hadn't noticed the same thing about 2 weeks ago when in a different JCrew store.
