J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Melissa@AllThingsSimplified (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, but not the J.Crew Collection (click here).

The SEPTEMBER catalog (click here to view) is still up. However, the latest OCTOBER catalog is not. As mentioned by several JCAs, J.Crew posted several images of the newest catalog over at Pinterest (click here to view).

I really like the print on the Collection Dutch floral wrap dress (item B2256, $550.00). The image above looks so beautiful. Even though it is a busy print, it screams late Summer, early Fall to me.

When I saw the Downing tote in colorblock stripe (item B3285, $178.00), I thought for a moment that J.Crew was selling a Madewell bag (the Madewell Paintstripe Transport Tote to be exact). Especially since the lower half seam is gone from this version of the Downing Tote. Too bad they didn't borrow the interior zipper pocket concept from the Madewell Tote. Although I love the Downing Tote (and own two of the bags), the detachable wristlet is kind of worthless. Did anyone else take a double take besides me?

The Flannel shirt in buffalo check (item B1089, $89.50) is a classic staple for a reason: it can be worn year after year and still look in-season. The current version is no exception, it looks super soft and ready to be worn!

Don't forget that J.Crew is offering an additional 25% off select full priced items (plus 30% off sale) with code SHOPFORFALL

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. I am very underwhelmed. I like the buffalo check shirt, but that's about it from the whole rollout. I don't dislike the pieces, but I don't want anything. It's meh for me.

  2. I really like the mixed media sweater but am hesitant to pull the trigger as I don't know if it's too "on-trend." I have SUCH a colossal, bursting-at-the-seams wardrobe currently that I am trying to be very thoughtful about each purchase & I don't know about its staying power. I also like the striped silk classic shirt & the dutch floral pants (same print as the dress above). They're a "drapey" fit though so I don't think they'd work on me.

  3. I really like the dress, but it's unfortunate J Crew produced it as a short tunic dress, virtually useless on anyone who isn't petite. Beautiful print, but what could have served as a work, elegant cocktail, wedding guest dress, etc. becomes a mini dress.

The moody floral print does speak Fall to me, though.

It also reminds me of this at Boden which is offered in tall and regular length.

Look at the Boden red/grey print Selena dress.

    1. Yeah, I so agree. Would've been great if the Dutch print came in a large silk scarf!

  5. From yesterday's store visit and this a.m.'s dash through the web site:

I liked the striped silk shirt, realized while on line that I have that lovely gold-y color in horizontal stripe and it's still in perfect condition.

thought about "upgrading" my snake print skirt this morning. For about a second.

loved the pic of the Noir Floral Blouse, will stop in to look at it later today. I've already splurged on the Black Paisley Silk Blouse, so I may have to wait this one out.

I saw a gorgeous pair of painted loafers in the 5th Ave store yesterday, just gorgeous, but sadly none of the staff knew anything about them. Displays were still being moved around.

I also saw that 2-tone hooded zip coat in the store. I'm sorry but it really does look like something fit for a ren faire in a cold climate.

My love for my existing collection of buffalo checks (flannel shirt, heavy flannel shirt, lined single-breasted shirt-jacket) remains constant, but I won't add any more.

I wanted to look at the Canyon Crossbody Bag, but as I said they were still putting stuff out and rearranging, so it wasn't my moment. If there's any kind of pocket or pocket substitute to handle a bus card on the back of the bag, I'll probably buy it.

I realized why I don't care for the random bright orange stripes or blocks that seem to be this year's "accent" or "pop" - they remind me of safety gear. I thought of a very dressy crossing guard in a nice suburb.

It seemed to me that this year's medium/large size felt fedoras are smaller than the M/L hats were in the spring. Unless my head has gotten thicker or fatter, which is a possibility that must be faced.

All in, too many synthetics and too much color-blocking in all its variants.

OnI a positive note, my Kelsey dress is back from surgery - I had the puffy detail removed from the shoulders, extra fullness is now a dart that continues from the shoulder line, and the dress is much more becoming.

And while in the store I took a close look at the Firework Charm necklace. This isn't a New Arrival, but I hadn't had the opportunity to take a close look earlier. I can't wear ambiguous metal things next to my skin (nothing ambiguous at all about that red rash!), but I really loved that necklace, just the right balance of whimsy and crafty, and I'm thinking about how I could wear it. I think it's too dainty to go with a turtleneck.

    2. Pointed loafers or painted loafers? Either way, keep me posted when you find out the style number. I love loafers and oxfords this season :)

    3. pAinted! A bright colorful floral abstract, if that makes any sense. Loooved them! They were on a shelf with a pile of sweaters, on the ground floor of the 5th Avenue store.

  6. The Collection noir floral blouse is really lovely...will be looking forward to hearing reviews on that one. I'm also interested in the Flannel shirt in buffalo check and the Canyon crossbody bag. I really like that the hardware matches the bag, and it seems to be a decent enough size. Hoping for reviews on that one, too. :)

    1. Agreed on the collection noir floral blouse - it's on my wish list. I recently splurged on the collection ochre floral pants - love them! I take a 4 in the Minnies and Campbell capris but a 6 in the Andies and the 6 worked in the collection pants for me. The colors are just amazing. They are included in the current 25% promo.

    2. @wellfedfred ... It seems that the "Firework Charm Necklace" was aptly named , giving you (and who knows how many out there) a real firework effect where it touched... Sorry to hear that!

    3. Sigh...
@Nan, I'll be wearing it over dark silk blouses and will see how that works. For those not so thin-skinned, it's worth trying on.

  7. I didn't see too much I wanted in this roll-out. Maybe the mossy brown toggle coat, but only if the price is right (I already have too many coats). I've started looking at other retailers, especially Boden, but have yet to pull the trigger on anything because I'm not familiar with their sizing.

    1. re Boden sizing: I've found it it runs about a size smaller than J Crew, and is more true to (reality) sizing--not J Crew's vanity sizing. I'm a consistent sz, 2 in J crew, and a consistent sz. 4 in Boden. Plus, Boden provides actual garment measurements for each and every piece, so it's easy to measure and compare items to what you already own (just click on the measurements tab for each item). Overall, it's much easier for me to buy a size confidently at Boden because what you see is what you get. HTH!

      Delete
    2. Thanks for the help! I wear a 00 at J.Crew so I worry that I may be sized out of Boden. I'll have to take a look at the garment measurements. I never noticed that before. What do you think about their shipping/return policies?

      Delete
    3. Boden shipping can be normal or slow, depending on whether your item/s are coming from across the pond. Returns have been a piece of cake for me, though. Items come with a return label ready to go. I haven't bought from them recently, but return shipping was paid for by them when I did. Very easy, never had a problem. The worst I can say is I've been frustrated a time or two when my item took a while to get here.

      Delete
    4. I haven't tried anything from Boden in quite a while, but in the past found that their items were too large for me. Depending on the item, I'm either a 00 or 0 regular or a 2 petite.
With the free returns, though, it may be worth giving them a shot if you see something you like.

      Delete
    5. Thanks, Cate! I'm definitely going to try ordering from Boden soon. Maryeb, it sounds like we're similar sizes, so that's useful to know.

    6. Here are coupon codes for 20% off + free shipping & returns (I found them on Everyday Savvy: HE27112C, HE27049R. I did a mock checkout with the first one and it was accepted.

A good place to check out reviews and get coupon codes is My Superfluities.

Right now there are some really good deals in the clearance section. The 20% off won't work on clearance items though.

    7. lolcatgirl...That is awesome about the 20% off codes. I may have to get to writing my next Weekly Review Roundup asap so I can make sure to include it in there. :)

Thanks for the shoutout, btw. I am so excited to receive my winter items. I should be getting these over the next few days--most are coming from the UK. (Crosses fingers for a fast crossing!)

I have received the Hartland dress (which is nowhere on the site, weirdly) and it is darling! The squirrel print is way cuter in person and doesn't scream super-young. It does run big, but I can't size down, so I will just sew up the bits that are a bit big.

      Delete
    8. Engineer L, you might also want to look at their Johnnie B line (girls). They often have some cute things that would be appropriate for you and you shouldn't be sized out ;)

      Delete
    9. Engineer - I'm 5-2 and generally wear 00P, size 24, or XXS at J.Crew. I take Boden's smallest size. Some things fit (pants, fitted ponte dresses, skirts, especially); other things don't (dresses can be too big and necklines too low, and knitwear can just be too long).

What does fit is spectacular. They are worth trying.

    10. Thanks so much for the suggestions, everyone! They're incredibly useful. As always, I'm overwhelmed by the awesome helpfulness of JCAs. :)

  8. Agreed that the noir floral blouse holds promise. I'd love to see it IRL.

I love many of the coats. I'm drawn to the long denim coat and will try to see it IRL -pretty expensive.

The pants offerings are quite cheap looking - very H&M. Quite unfortunate IMO.

Agreed with Alexis about the Downing tote - more structure please!

  9. I didn't see anything I have to have, but that is not surprising. J.Crew isn't doing it for me anymore and their clothing has become unrecognizable for the most part.

  10. Didn't see much that I want or need in this roll-out, but I'm kind of disappointed in the coat colors. Color is really J.Crew's forté.

  11. It's quite chilly here, so I'm thinking about sweaters. Has anyone seen any of the new sweaters (the Lambswool pointelle, Lambswool Zip, Boiled Wool Zip or Textured Slouchy)? Any sweaters that you liked? Thanks.

  12. Could somebody give me sizing advice on the signiture leggings?
I would like to order them with the free shipping today.
Also has anybody tried The Ropes bracelets? Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think the signature leggings run slightly small, but they've a decent spandex content (8%, maybe?) so they're quite forgiving. I'm usually a 00P in JC bottoms, and the XXS leggings fit me well. Length was good, also -- I'm 5'3" with short-ish legs.

FWIW, I tried Madewell's leggings recently, and thought they ran measurably longer and narrower. Higher spandex content, too (maybe 15%?) so they were a bit shiny.

  13. There are more pieces I liked right off the bat than in recent new arrivals. My picks here (except that waste-of-fabric danke sweatshirt). I added exactly 4 (+1 sale item) to my wishlist.

  14. I love the dutch floral as well but in the skirt. Pretty nice that there are more skirts with a longer length (closer to the knees). I reviewed the houndstooth skirt and its matching jacket. The regent style is very classy and hippy at same time, really like it. There was no tall for me to try the even with regular, the sleeve length is decent (similar to schoolboy length for tall).

    1. I just spent a lot of time with the new Boden catalogue. So much to love! And I feel like the styling appeals to a lot of different sensibilities -- pattern mixers, classic dressers, trendy dressers. Now, if there was only a wish list feature on the website!

  18. I've been a big fan of florals for a long time. That hummingbird floral from a few seasons ago - it still makes my heart flutter.

But J Crew has cured me of that love during the last while. The newly released Dutch floral might be nice, but just think of how refreshing that print would have seemed if J Crew hadn't produced a tsunami of badly executed floral prints (in dreadful hues), especially on pants and dresses, in the last few roll-outs. I now take it for granted that there will be no fewer than six floral cropped pants on offer at any given time (mostly with marked down prices). Don't get me started on the floral shorts in heavy brocade (season after season).

JC has overextended itself with florals, and its too bad.

    1. We must have posted at about the same time. If you Google "1980s florals" and click Images, you will see a striking resemblance to the J. Crew 2014 florals. The third image on my search was of a couch!

  21. For as much as J. Crew is going for modern, most of these florals look like they're straight out of the 1980s. I don't understand them at all as part of this season's style. J. Crew has done some good florals in the past, but I am not feeling any of these.

  22. Stopped by last night and the staff had been working to put new arrivals out that prior morning. Completely underwhelmed as I have been for many roll outs now. Only item that I saw that I did like was the Boiled wool zip sweater (item B2130). My store had it in the white and tan colorway but it was 90 degrees and a thick sweater was not on my radar. Even the SAs seem underwhelmed by this and the past roll outs. I did pick up a catalog and glanced through but unlike prior years it will get thrown out and not saved. EBay is getting my business on older J Crew items.

  23. Hmm...there is nothing wowing me with this roll-out. Le sigh.

The Dutch Floral Sweatshirt is cute..but I know next season or two that will be made into a factory version. I don't like it when J.Crew does that.

I was interested in the Nylon Bomber till I read on the description, 'Oversize fit' Wowza! And it's not offered in Petite? Disappointing. That jacket will look lame on me.

    I like:
-The Collection Midnight Floral Top...what?! No size 0?? What gives? Price is too high, hoping it goes on sale by December. I doubt it.
-Double Cloth Collarless Coat. I wonder what changes were made (aside from the buttons to zipper) from last year's Sabrina, which I really love. I like it in camel.
    -Oversized Stripe Turtleneck

    Meh. That's about it.

  26. Everything was 25% off at the store I visited this afternoon (excluding third-party items). Very small signs on some tables indicating 25% off but no sign at the door or in the windows. It is like the sale is a secret! Needless to say, store was not busy at all. Had to have the floral sweatshirt and like Ina mentioned, it is TTS. I did not gain any length going up one size so I bought my usual size XS. The new Liberty print perfect shirt is gorgeous. No time to try on pants or skirts; maybe next visit.

  30. I pre-ordered the midnight floral top and I am bummed. It is the one piece I liked from the preview from the fall presentation. The fit is off for my busty, hourglass figure, and the fabric is nice, but stiff. I ordered my larger size to play it safe due to fabric content, and the bust and arms just fit-but the body of the garment was really oversized and looked matronly to me. It is probably better for a less curvy gal. The print is nice, but not something I HTH, though I do like the skirt. Nothing else for me this time-just a return when I get into the store on Friday.

    1. Oh no, Julie..
I like that top, but will not pay full price for it. I kind of wanted to order a size 0 just to try at home, but I am wondering why the site doesn't have that size?

Hopefully it won't be as popular, and it'll be marked down by December. I have two outfits I'd like to wear that top with...I hope it works out for me.

  31. I am totally underwhelmed by this rollout. Initially I was considering the Dutch Floral Pencil skirt but it reads as a true fall piece to me (maybe I will feel differently when I see it IRL), so I worry about how often I would actually wear it. It would have to be significantly marked down for me to consider it at this point. I'm in the market for tailored work pieces and JCrew just isn't offering much...imo too much color blocking, too many sweats, zippers and slouchy pieces. Also, I feel like the colors aren't as vibrant this fall...no new color options in the jackie's or the tippi's. I guess I will have to spend my fall budget elsewhere.

As a long time JCrew customer I'm really to the point that I'm hoping for a women's design team change...not that I wish anyone to lose their jobs but I feel like the women's designs have been stale for some time. I know they want to dabble more in trends but why not offer some great basics and then introduce seasonal capsule collections...on trend pieces that can be mixed in with the basics. I feel like that was the original intent of The Collection pieces but now I just equate collection with the same cookie cutter designs...ie: take a basic piece add a "luxe" embellishment of the moment (sequins, crystals, or feathers) and slap on a big price tag and call it collection. (Sigh) JCrew I wish I knew how to quit you.

P.S. Although I'm a little old for the Madewell target market, I've also picked up a few pieces there recently.
