  1. Managed to snap up the heather acorn cashmere turtleneck for a good price at the beginning of the cold weather season -- on sale even though it's backordered? Who knows why, with J.Crew's weird merchandising strategies, but it will shortly be mine!

  2. OT, for has anybody purchased and received the Madewell Archive boots lately? There is a significant decline in quality control, and they appear to no longer be made in Italy. Does anybody know if this is the case? CS was not able to tell me where they are made. The price has not gone down from previous seasons, so it just may be a profit margin increase move, which is now all too common sadly.

    1. Hi Anthro Blogger - I ordered the black Archive boots a few weeks ago and inside the shaft it says "Made in Romania". I found the quality and fit to be decent (ordered the regular, not extended-calf version). I think they're probably as good as you're going to get for the price... if anybody has other recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

    2. I can't comment on the current archive boots, but i do own a pair from a couple years ago. And although they were made in Italy, quality control was a problem then as well. I had to order twice (in the same size)before I found the pair that fit me best. First pair was defective...the shaft was uneven, one longer than the other. The second pair was larger than the first, roomier in the feet, calf, and had a higher shaft. Color was significantly different between the two pairs as well. Luckily, I liked the second pair so I kept it, but not everyone will be so lucky. I stayed with my usual shoe size and it fit tts in my opinion. But then again, they all seem to fit differently, so I think it's best to try on in store or order multiples. Also I should mention that the rubber soles lasted only 2 weeks before having to replace them....granted I did heavy walking in nyc, but still! In my humble opinion, when it comes to the archive boots, the Made in Italy stamp is really irrelevant in terms of quality.

Having said that, however, I will confess my love for them...they are still one of my favorite boots. I have absolutely no regrets for getting them, I get a lot of wear out of them every fall/winter and they are so comfortable with nice thick durable leather. The style is truly timeless.

    3. Mine are the brown ones from a few years ago and I had to re-order them twice before I got a pair that didn't have random dark marks on the leather. I don't expect perfection from leather, but this was enough to bother me. So I agree with jeanbug that quality control on these boots wasn't very good back then either.

  3. I purchased the Archive Boots (not-so-extended calf) last month but haven't worn them yet, and I may return them (haven't decided). The reviews on the Madewell site wax rhapsodic about the quality of the leather, which to my eyes and fingers is good but hardly exceptional. The sizing is odd as well: the site recommends sizing down, but my first try with an 8.5 (my normal size) was too small, so I went for a 9, which is a little loose. And the width of the calf is strange - my other J Crew extended calf boots are almost too wide, but these are pretty tight - no tucked in jeans for me. I rarely have problems with sizing since my feet are quite average and easy-to-please, so all this is unusual for me.

That said, I paid only $112. I wouldn't pay more.

  4. I was already eyeing the graphic plaid blouse and the promo price + 40% off (not to mention no final sale) was too good to pass up. I ordered from a store so they waived the shipping. This is probably the first item in the Fall lineup I am a bit excited about so I hope it is going to work

    1. Forgot to mention that my store didn't have it so I couldn't try it on. Went with my regular size, hope it fits well.

    2. Did you order it in regular 0 or petite 0, Ema?

    3. I ordered my regular 0. I never order petite, in case it doesn't work I will try to exchange it.

  5. I'm contemplating another cashmere piece or two. There are a lot of cashmere items on promo, so with the extra 40% off it makes them a much more decent price.

  8. Lots in store that is not marked down (like online) and didn't have the energy to ask about price match (which I am sure they would do). I did buy the gray suede Georgie's in store (I went up a half size for width -- which is kinda odd because I have an average/narrow foot). They are $120 before 40% off.

  9. I may 'need' a pair of black Pixies. Tried them on yesterday and will have pictures tonight, hopefully.

  10. Has anyone reviewed the boys lightweight puffer #9091? Not a single review on the site. I was going to get my boys some North Face Puffers but these are 40% off right now...tempting but not final sale!

  11. Did anyone else get an email with the subject "You there? Here's $50…" It's $50 off of a purchase of $150. Maybe they've missed me? :)

  12. Snapped up several things I have been stalking but which are out of stock at my local stores - the asymmetrical-zip merino sweater, the merino swing sweater (bought another color in-store, sized down 2 sizes for best fit). And the sleeveless silk blouse in black, to add to the blue, burgundy and heart-dot I already own (addict!) since they go so well under all my cropped sweaters/ tops. have stocked up on lots of sweaters thanks to the sales, but the weather here is still too warm to wear them. And it can stay that way, thanks very much - hoping I don't need a sweater before Xmas here in the Great Lakes (ha)! Received an advertising card in the mail today from JC about their 'new cashmere' - may be they realize how many sweaters I'm buying. Was hoping there'd be a discount code in it, but no such luck.

    1. cagliari67 - I can't decide what size to get in the sleeveless silk blouse, which I reviewed here. I usually wear 6 and that felt big, but I liked the size. I'm wondering if it's *too* big, though and I should go for the 6P or 8P (sz 6 equiv) to bring up the length a little bit. How tall are you, what size did you choose & are you in-between sizes or usually take the same size in everything? TIA

    2. Gigi, I sized down (from my JC sleeveless top size) in the sleeveless silk blouse. I think you should try on the 4. The 6P might work too. But in your review, I think the 6 looks too big. It is a long top, though, and I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it. I'm 5'4" and I still feel like this longer proportioned top trend is not quite right on me.

    3. cate - Thanks for the sizing help. I want it to be longer because I want to wear it over the leather tuxedo pixies. If it looks slightly long, it won't have the same effect. I hope I can try the 4 on soon.

    4. Gigi i agree with Cate. I sized down from the 0 to a 00.

    5. Gigi, I have one in a 6 and all the others in an 8 - I wanted the shirt to be very flowy as I am going to mostly be wearing them untucked under shorter sweaters, and I like the movement the larger size has. The 6 fits perfectly at the chest but does not fall as smoothly over my derriere. I am usually either a 6 or an 8 in JC tops. I'm 5'7" and the larger size falls in a perfect straight line from my shoulders to my thighs, which is what I wanted. I can imagine this blouse in the regular size would be quite tunic-y on anyone below 5'4" or so.

    6. Gigi,

We almost always seem to wear the same size in items and I often rely on your reviews if purchasing an item unseen. I comfortably sized down to a 4 in this blouse. Hope this helps!

    7. @Ina @cagliari67 @Marielarue7 - Thank you for the sizing help, ladies!! I got a chance to try on the 4 and that seems to be a better fit, but it's still loose as I want it to be.

  13. I'm bummed that none of the items I want are on sale yet. It's time for the Andie cords to go on sale or maybe a graduated promo... :)

  14. And of course the two cardigans I ordered yesterday at 30% off were 40% but CS was kind and gave me a price adjustment.
Sadly today I took my new excursion vest out of the closet to wear and it smelled terrible! I remember reading here about this happening to others but I was so disappointed. I had purchased it in August and it sat in the closet until today when it was finally cool enough to wear. They are sending a new one so my fingers are crossed. Wet dog is just no good!

    1. Will you please report on your new excursion vest once you receive it? I hope the new one works for you! I just returned my shiny puffer vest because of the smell; should be getting a replacement in a couple of days.

    2. Yes & you report back too- good luck!

  15. The Canadian dollar has dipped (again) .89 Cents. Until J Crew give us Canucks a fair deal (our prices are inflated) along with the low dollar just makes it too expensive.....

  16. Of course they would do this! I called and was able to get a price adjustment on the order I placed yesterday, though. She was quite confused at the fact that the promo took 40% off the price of the Pixies when it says it should only be 25%... We had a bit of confusion about the price of the cropped sweater since apparently it's more expensive in Canada (where she was!) than here. Haha. But it got sorted and I'm very happy. :)
