J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Just got the Petite Dannie pants in black and I'm a fan. I took advice and sized up one from my Pixie size and I am glad I did, the fit is like the Pixie but not too tight. They reminded me of slim cut twill pants but not with a super stretchy feel. I also liked the back zip and the snap instead of the hook. The waistband came just bellow my belly button so not too high as I had feared. They also washed well with no fading. Very happy with them, will probably buy a pair in another color.

  2. I was curious about the new perfume line and ordered the small size of #57. I know perfume is personal, but I HATED it. It's very strong and masculine. The description mentions whiskey, but that's an understatement. It's overpowering and potent. I dabbed a bit on my wrist and it gave me a headache, then I had to scrub to get it off. I also felt like the scent was "old" and a bit musty. Definitely not for me and I tossed it.

    1. I disliked the RMS beauty products and after my "bad" review....CS emailed me and asked me if I wanted to return the products for refund...which I did....I had opened and tried them...

    2. Greetings Allyson . . . I agree that the #57 is a much stronger and masculine scent. I tried the #31 which more feminine and closer to the scents I've typically worn. Luckily I was able to sniff both while in a store.

  4. Any reviews of the wing tip oxfords in garnet flame? They look lovely and will be a great alternative to boots this winter.

  5. Would love any info on the mohair sweatshirt from anyone who's seen in person. I don't live anywhere near a store. Interested in sizing (usually an XS/0), weight, and softness factor. Thanks in advance!!

  6. Has anyone tried on the new retail cocoon coat? Would love to hear thoughts on fit and style since it seems like they have changed a lot of things for this year's version (material, length, pockets, etc.)

    1. This is the first year I have tried the Cocoon coat, so I don't know how it compares to past versions. I ordered a petite 2, the same size that I wear in the School boy blazer. It has a boxy fit, looks like the product shots on-line. The sleeve length is good, hitting right at the bottom of my wrist. Coat length hits me about mid-thigh, I'm 5'3". The side-slit pockets give the coat a nice, streamlined look. HTH

    2. You might want to check Cate's post/review on the Cocoon coat. She recently bought it, and did some comparisons to the old one...

    3. It seems longer (not a fan), has seamed/faux cuffs (not a fan), slash pockets (like this change but didn't mind the old pockets either). I disliked the fit in my regular size and will try it a size down. The color was pretty and the material seemed fine, but it felt bigger overall than the older versions. I tried the hthr twilight color.

Regarding the length, I got out my old Cocoon coat in the same size and compared them back to back and the new retail one is definitely longer. When I searched the old style number and the new style number, it says they are the same length. Personally, I don't think so.

Overall I don't care for the changes to this coat. The old one was great and they didn't need to mess with a good thing.

    4. Thanks for all the info! I had a feeling based on the online reviews on the j.crew site that people weren't too happy about the changes. I normally wear a 00 or 00p and am worried it will be too long/large. Thanks again!

    5. Now I'm glad I got one last year! I don't understand why J.Crew goes around tweaking classic designs that people already like.

    6. I have last years and I want to try this years because I would like a longer length and I think I would like the newer pocket and sleeve detail. But I have not seen it in store yet !

  7. ok... i know most of you aren't fans of the Emma flats, but can anyone help me with sizing? I'm usually an 8 in most of the shoes i've bought or tried on at Jcrew. The Viv Patent flats are the only exception so far with me needing an 8.5. The Emmas are final sale so i really don't want to get stuck with too big/small shoes if it can be helped.

    1. I think the Emma's are TTS to slightly small. I take 9.5's in the Factory Anya's and Emery's and 9.5 in the retail Everly's and Edie's and took a 9.5 in these. They seem to fit fine, but I've not walked long distances in them. Also, they do seem to run smaller/a little tighter than all of the other shoes I've mentioned. Hope this helps!

      Hope this helps!

    2. I'm actually a much bigger fan of the Emmas (the pointed toe is more flattering for me), and my usual size 9 is the best fit. HTH!

  9. Has anyone tried this year's collection cashmere long-sleeve tees? Some of the reviews on jcrew.com make it sound like the fit and quality of the material has changed, and not for the better.

    1. I ordered two, and found (IMO) that the ran a little smaller and were not as soft as last year's version. I returned them so I can't speak to their durability.

    2. Thanks, LilyBart! And love your screen name -- "House of Mirth" is one of my favorite books ever.

    3. I ordered two as well. They seemed to me the same as last year in terms of softness and sizing. I will say some times it depends on the color you order size and feel are different. For example last year one of the tee was at least 2 inches shorter. If it is not final say I think you should order to try it out. One can always return. I know I am keeping both of mine.

  10. The factory midrise jeans in distressed wash are tts, but stiff IMO.

  11. I think it was Ina Mack who mentioned the Toothpick jeans in Parker wash. I'm debating ordering them. Do they feel as comfortable as the Toothpicks in the Destructed Miller wash? I have worn the Destructed Miller ones non-stop since I got them bc they fit so well and look so great. If they're as comfortable and fit similarly, they're on promo + extra 30 off & not FS so I'm about to push the "purchase" button, lol! Would love to hear from anyone who's tried them. Thanks!!

    1. Yes,they are comfy too!
They fit a tiny bit snugger, but still same comfort level.

    2. Thx! I think I'll try the 29's. That's what I have in the Miller's and I could've sized down, but wanted them super comfy. So, maybe these will fit perfect.

    3. I've also been wearing the Toothpicks in Destructed Miller nonstop! I have never been a fan of the Toothpicks before until these. I think I might try the Parker wash too.

Is J. Crew still running the $20 off full-priced jeans when you donate an old pair? If so, it's totally worth it for those interested in the Destructed Millers.

Then i tried the new dutch floral sweatshirt and it is also TTS. The fit was very similiar to the cropped sweatshirt.
Then i tried the flouncy check skirt(sorry forgot the name), it is also TTS. i wasnt really a fan of it. It was too flouncy for me.

    2. Ina, I am very interested in the dutch floral sweatshirt. Was it super cropped? Fingers crossed it is not. It looks so pretty in the catalog (oops, Style Guide).

  13. What do petite ladies think about the Turner pants? I'm 5'3", about 110. I'm worried they will look silly on! Reviews said they run large - any thoughts?

    1. I am 5 2" and 117 pounds and am usually a 0. I went with my regular petite size(2) and the fit was perfect.

  14. I just got the online exclusive J.Crew Factory tuxedo blouse in the mail today. I'm wearing my usual size XXS in this picture. I recommend sizing down. I've been looking for a tuxedo blouse for months and was really hoping this would be the one. I liked the pleated front and the folded-over button cuffs. The polyester material wasn't too shabby either. Decently thick, not too hot, some stretch, and not staticky. The blouse is also at a good price point. Too bad I'm sized out.

  17. Reviewed the houndstooth skirt and jacket. I LOVE the zippers on the straight skirt, add a good amount of attitude; loving how versatile the houndstooth print is; the regent cut is great and sleeves are long enough for tall girls.

  18. I just received the lovely wool melton duffle coat (item a8904) yesterday in heather thistle. This runs TTS for JC outerwear. I got it in a P4, and the arm length is perfect for 5'2" / 5'3" me. The color is gorgeous, a neutral-ish pink that would match anything and the material feels like a smooth stadium cloth, which seems to me like it will wear very well. Two things I don't love: first, the zippered pockets up top. Who would ever use these? And I am not a fan of zippers as embellishments. But this is not a deal breaker for me. The real problem is the patch pockets. I use my pockets on my coats literally every time I wear my coats because I often go gloveless. I don't know why, but I assumed that this coat would have side pockets as well as the patch pockets, but it doesn't, and personally, I find using patch pockets for keeping my hands warm really awkward and annoying. So, as much as I love this coat, it is going back.

  19. Oh, and I also rec'd a bunch of Hugo Guiness-illustrated Wildlife Trust items and love them all. It's pretty amazing that JC is donating 100% of NET proceeds to the charity.

The girls' sweatshirt (b2536) is my favorite of the bunch. The cut is great, it's so soft and cozy, and the elephant is glittery. IMO, it literally could not be better. The size 16 fits me (5'2.5", size 2 or 4 in women's tops) but I sadly bought this for my daughter, who is only 9 but loves big sweatshirts.

I got the women's sweatshirt (b2167) for myself in S. I usually like my sweatshirts big too, so I normally order a M but reviews said this runs loose and S was the right size for a slouchy look on me. I love it, but I love the girl's version even better -- the neckline on the girl's version is looser and I don't love the lighter color on the women's neckline. Still, a great purchase.

I also ordered the women's tee (b5793) and it is as expected, loose, as it's linen, and I love the space-dye-ish look of the material.

Also ordered the men's sweatshirt (b3704) for me, as I love the traditional sweatshirt with that v at the neckline, but have not rec'd it yet. I'm sure it will be big, but based on the other Wildlife Trust items I've received, I'm sure I will love it.

  21. How is the warmth of the wool melton compared to the Stadium Cloth, which in the past reviewers/blogs have said is the warmest of the JC coats? Though may be too early to know...
