Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the HOLIDAY sale, or to see some new WINTER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I am not sure if this is the right place to write this, but i received the merino boyfriend sweater today and love, love it.
It is soft and fits perfect with skinny jeans.
    Just one thing,size down!!!

    1. Ina! Got it, and I feel the love! Very flattering drape and v-neck, w/just enough coverage for the bum. I bought navy, and although I can wear it now, I'm also really looking forward to pairing it with my white skinnies and crops for spring. I want to see your review before deciding whether or not to try it in an xs. Drape is lovely but wondering if one size down will help or detract from the look. I really like the longer sleeve length, and don't want to lose length there, or from the front of the body. No tight arms! Hooray!
Plan on a cami under the lighter colors.

I also received the scroll print shorts today. They run tts to big. At first I thought they were so, so ugly (golden mustard-blah), but then I tried them on and really liked them. Now I want the Kira Metallic sandals in gold to wear with the shorts. It never ends...

    2. Can anyone compare this sweater to the Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater? I find that one to be a bit too swingy through the body and also a bit short in the front--is the merino version the same way?

On a side note, I ordered a Mens Merino V-Neck Sweater and I LOVE it! It is much more flattering on me than the Cashmere Boyfriend because it's a bit slimmer through the body and longer (I got a Small in the mens sweater and an X-Small in the women's Boyfriend sweater). It was also WAY cheaper than the women's version.

    3. Caitlin, if we are comparing the Classic Merino Long Cardigan (#65370) and the Cashmere Boyfriend cardigan (#49290), I know exactly what you mean. The merino cardigan's shape is much better IMO. It is longer and much more flattering. When I tried on the Collection Cashmere Boyfriend Cardigan, I thought it was too short and a bit Mr. Rogers-y. I still liked it for the warmth and the gorgeous color, but they'd have done better to make the cashmere cardigan the same shape as the merino cardigan. The Perfect Fit Mixed Tape Cardigan (#29176) is very close in shape to the Classic Merino Long Cardigan, if you are ever looking for a warmer weather option, it is very flattering too.

I didn't try the Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater (item 47920) but the Merino Boyfriend Sweater (item 36031) is shorter in the front/longer in the back, and drapey (may be even more fluid than the cashmere because of the merino).

JCrew should not use "boyfriend" to name or describe this sweater, since I don't think it even remotely resembles a man's sweater.
Men's sweaters are the same length all the way around, straight through the waist, with a slightly narrower waistband (whatever the bottom of the sweater is called). The drape and bi-level length of the Merino bf sweater creates a more flattering look, and is a different style altogether, imho. I don't always gravitate to this style of sweater but the merino fabric and overall style of the sweater is really nice!

  2. I was in a store last night and saw a few new markdowns- nothing that significant. However, the sale section certainly looks much larger online, so perhaps there will be more in store markdowns as well...

  3. This is off-topic, but has anyone used the weddings and parties services at the stores that offer them? I have to make an appointment for help picking a bridesmaid dress and am wondering what to expect and what might be available to try on. I'm hoping they have all the color swatches in person to look at?

    1. I went bridesmaid dress shopping at the now closed Atrium location in Chestnut Hill (looks like you're in MA?) and it was a great experience. They had each style of dress all in the same color, plus swatches of the additional colors. The sales girl was very friendly and helpful, although we ended up just picking out and Anthro dress to all wear instead :)

    2. I went in late 2010 to try on bridal gowns. They had to order the two I wanted to try on and then didn't have them in any other sizes and tried to talk me into buying one on the spot and just returning it later if I didn't like it. I walked out. I didn't find it to be a good experience.

      Delete
    3. In San Francisco, IIRC they had each style of bridesmaid dress in one or 2 sizes, with each style in a different color. I tried on almost every dress (with clips), and it only took a half hour. They also have heels and sashes to try on. I got a good idea of the available styles, fabrics and colors, but it wasn't very helpful for sizing.

  4. I stopped in yesterday because the Scroll print dress was up front by the door and I saw it from the mall hallway. I hoped to see the skirt, but they didn't have it. My first impression of the print....bleh. It's alot of yellow and a strange beighed orange color....all I could think to pair it with would be white and navy. I haven't seen the skirt, maybe it will be more inspiring. They had a few resort wear things...coverups, etc. Didn't see anything I wanted to try on.

  6. I decided to give the bow toothpick cords a try since they weren't FS, but I'm just not feelin it, so I'll be returning them to the Fair Oaks store in VA today - I've only been there once and they only had like 2 items for sale in the whole store, so I'm hoping I'll be able to behave myself.

    1. I was thinking of getting these. Are they TTS? Not sure how versatile they are.

      Delete
    2. i have the bow cords in size 26. I love them!!! they are very cool IMO.
in terms of size, i think they run TTS. I have really skinny legs so I was hoping the legs were little bit tighter since it's called the toothpick but I still have room in my legs. It says the fabric has some stretch but I don't feel it at all (there is no stretch to these pants). If you have thicker legs, I would size up but if you have normal legs, I would keep your normal size. For reference I wear 0 in cafe capris and 0 in the pencil skirts. size 2 in dresses and blazers and coats. HTH

      Delete
    3. I wear a 4 in cafe capris and a 6 in chino shorts. I needed a 29 in the bow print cords. The toothpicks in the black and cream geometric print had more stretch and the 28 was the perfect fit. I unfortunately do not have teeny thighs. HTH.

      Delete
    4. ShopLV - I consistently wear 29 in J Crew bottoms and definitely sized to 30 in the bow print toothpicks. They have a shorter rise and not a lot of stretch like the denim. I'm with Erin, who is returning hers. I just didn't feel them 100% and passed even though they're $39.99 in-store.

      Delete
    5. Thanks! I am a 28 in toothpicks but sounds like I should get a 29 too since I am a 4 in cafe capris & don't have slim calves :( Hmm.. I will have to rethink these since I have to oder online and they are more.

  8. Reply won't work for me today ... Straycat, ITA about the Scroll Print. I was excited to see it but the color is difficult to wear so similar to the Porcelain Paisley I already have.

I love JC prints as a rule but these crazy-memorable ones aren't versatile enough for my wardrobe.

  10. Ina, I’d like to second your love of the Merino Boyfriend sweater. I received mine yesterday in grey and love it! I’m wearing it today with skinny jeans. I did not size down from my usual size small, however I expected it to be loose and oversized, but I can see how some might want to size down. I’m already hoping to pick this up in more colors!

  13. Stopped in on Monday at the Michigan Ave. Chicago store to replace a broken hair clip and wound up picking up a striped Painter tee and some tights and socks. Everything was fs, with an extra 30% (except the tights and socks) and I was also able to use my student discount on top of that. I will say that everything is kind of picked over at this point.

  15. Hi all in the US. I've succumbed to the pink shawl collar coat in the online sale. It's not arrived yet but feeling guilty for this purchase after I pledged 2013 would be austere! Does anyone have a reassuring review of this item? .... Hilary, London

    1. Hi Hilary - I succumbed to the same coat... I'm living in China right now. Haven't received it yet but tried scowering the internet/blogs for any review before I bought it... only saw posts from back in Sept of people saying they loved the color but afaird it would look like a bathrobe! I'm hoping for the best. Love the color. Would love a reassuring review before it comes but I'm not holding my breath :) I will write one of my own though when I receive it!

On another note - THANK YOU to all you JCA's - I found this site after moving to China a year ago. I've been in love with Jcrew for a number of years but always had the luxury of just going into the store and working with my VPS... now that I don't have that any more I find your reviews and comments invaluable! I'm still ordering, but since most things are almost double the cost if I ship them to China I have them shipped to my US address and then wait until my husband visits for work to have hm bring stuff back... hate that, but whats a J Crew fan to do!

      Delete
    2. Thanks Ingrid. Fingers crossed for both of us then - it was the colour and material that lured me in. I live in London so looking forward to J Crew store opening this spring. No more rash purchases sight unseen.

    3. Ingrid - coat has arrived. It's a fairly vivid pink. Pinker than I envisaged. The material is also rather different to what I expected for boucle. A little more terry towelling for my taste. I suspect I'll send it back, which is a pain. That said, I think if I saw it on someone I'd admire it. I just don't think I'll get enough wear to justify the cost. I hope this isn't too off putting for you. Keen to hear your thoughts.

    4. Hi Hilary - thanks for posting your review... I'm sad you didn't love it, and you should definitely send it back due to the cost. I haven't received mine yet - it hasn't even shipped... I'll keep you posted! And you're so lucky that you will get a JCrew in the spring!!! Hong Kong will be opening a location sometime in the next year or so.. but I'm in Beijing so that's a little far even for a die hard JCrew fan!!

  16. I got TONS of good stuff at the B&M in Birmingham! I found a pair of cece ballet flats for $50 before the discount... they must have been marked wrong because the same pair is $100 on sale on line! A pair of toothpick jeans, a wool dress, stockings and a headband for $105, since I get a teacher discount. So happy! If you live in the area then the Birmingham store is still full of sale items!

  17. OT, but I am noting that the two new Jules dresses (scroll & botanical) are almost sold out on-line (one size left in each).

One of two things is true: either the Jules dress really does sell well (and those of us who are Jules detractors need to get a grip) or JC is making it appear that the dress is selling well initially (and we'll see a ton go on sale in a couple of months).

    What do you all think?

I'm noting that other short dresses are not selling well, including the otherwise lovely V neck wool dress that has ample stock in all sizes and colors.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was actually thinking something similar after seeing the low stock., I am thinking jcrew has yet to receive their full orders of these dresses (perhaps they've only received a handful of each) or one can be a bigger skeptic and assume JC has hundreds in each size but only makes a handful available online at a time...they only need to sell a few to make a sell-out seem inevitable. This in turn makes skeptics and those on the fence wonder what they might be missing out on, and frantically purchase what they can get early in the AM or through stores. Frenzy ensues. Am I being paranoid?? I just can't believe they've sold *that* many Jules dresses, I don't care what gorgeous pattern might be on them. They are a generally unflattering shape and ridiculously unwearable length. Not to mention the price....

      Delete
    2. I predict full size runs in both will hit final sale in the not too distant future : )

      Delete
    3. I'm guessing they didn't order that many to be made for the first run. Either this, or the manufacturing is a bit behind the rollout. Either way, we will see these dresses in a full size run eventually, I'd bet on it.

    6. I actually ordered the Collection Jules in Botanical print and already returned it. The print is lovely, but too much for me in a shift dress. It was also a little large. I could have taken the smaller of my two dress sizes. It is of course way too short. I had thought of wearing a sweater on top to use the bottom of the dress as a skirt. It is NOT worth the price imo. It has a white, plastic zipper, no pockets, and is lined in poly. The sleeves are not lined. It suffered from static cling. The hem is sewn into the lining. This would make it more difficult to let down the hem.

  23. Visited Madewell first. The sale section is small, but my sole purpose of visiting is because of their sequin pants I am lusting over, and the SF store has my size. Madewell is also doing the extra 30% promo on sale items, and I couldn't resist. With 30%, the student discount and tax, I paid only $77. The pant is perfect because the sequins are small and matte not shiny like the typical larger sequins J.Crew uses.

Then I stopped by J.Crew to see if there were any goodies to buy. The sale section looks the same from when I went on Dec 26. I noticed some items marked down online still shows up as FP at the store. So if you are on the hunt for the boucle zip peplum sweater or the bird tee, the SF store has a lot. There's nothing new from this roll-out that I am obsessing over.

Unless prices weren't marked, I didn't see the bargains everyone was blogging about. I guess I got to the party too late! Gals that are xxs, xs or maybe even xl should definitely make a trip. Lots in those sizes. I tried the new yellow scroll print Jules. Couldn't tell much about it because it was so clingy with static. The 6 seemed a little big and I think the.4 would work I'm not sure about the side seam pockets since they have a tendency to pooch. I need to try on with a can of static spray.

This is comment worthy. I can't believe they are closing down the one and only Retail Las Vegas store left! What does Jcrew have against Las Vegas? We went from 2 retail, 2 outlets and 1 Madewell to....1 outlet store?!

I don't understand how all the other stores in Vegas make it but Jcrew can't?

Well, good bye Jcrew. I am not gambling with Final Sale online purchases and paying twice as much.

The slim trench is blue is very nice. The double cloth is stiffer than the stadium cloth. This coat is nice and tailored.

OT for any other JCA's who, like myself, missed out on the Viv Bow Flats and ended up kicking themselves....I happened to go into the Banana Republic outlet today and they had a style of flats called the Bow Pointed Toe Flat that was VERY comparable to the Viv's. They come in two colors, black and a nude color. The only main difference is that there is a piece of gold hardware in the middle of the bow rather than ribbon. They seem to be very good quality and are quite comfortable. The best part? Since they were clearance and there is an additional sale, I got them for 26.99 each before tax. (I ended up getting both colors). I would definitely check out the outlet if you have one near you and are interested in a bow flat!

  41. Went to my B&M in Atlanta and picked up a purple schoolboy blazer, a striped thermal henley, the circle lace top, the lambswool diamond sweater, and a pair of striped flannel PJ pants for $150 total. They had tons of cashmere, cords, and lilac-colored capris. Everything else was slim-pickings.

  44. OT: I've never had this happen to me before. Want to get your feedback. I am dying to buy the Biella Patent Loafers in size 5H, black or pewter. When I check my shopping cart, the stock on these shoes, in my size, when I select the quantity, only shows 1 left, but its not the case in other sizes.

I am curious to see if JCrew will offer another sale promo starting midnight. I am worried if I don't buy it now, my size 5H will run out.

Has anyone successfully been able to beg customer service to adjust the price on a previous order made hours, day or two to when the promo started?

    TIA!

  45. Those with my JC experience, are you thinking we will get another % off final sale promo online? I am eyeing another coat (bought the slim trench a couple weeks ago) but I can't justify it unless the price is right.

  46. Does anyone know when they start shipping sale items back? Might not be able to get to a store until end of this week and I'd like to check the sale items again but if they are shipping back to warehouse I won't make the trek out to b&m.

    1. cuckoo - This weekend I asked if they are shipping sale out to the warehouse and the SA looked at me blankly. STYLEFIND for 30% off final sale has started online and will continue in-store. My guess is they aren't shipping out in the next couple weeks. Promo ends 1/20.

  47. I received a 20% off code that is good for orders outside of the US only (I'm in Canada). I've used it twice. It is FRIENDGIFT12 and is valid through to February 1, 2013.
