Hi JCS's - I'm sorry if I'm breaking etiquette but I haven't been around this blog long enough to know if once a day has passed if the weekly "Reviews" posting gets looked at and answered after the day it gets posted... so I'm posting this ask here too...
ReplyDeleteHi JCA's: Have any of you ever gone with a Tall size in the cafe capri's in order to make them more wearable? They are so short for winter pants, was wondering if bumping up to a Tall would make them more reasonable for the cold weather. I am 5'6" and have 4 pairs all in Size 2R... but I'm finding I never wear them in the cold of winter... just fall and spring when I will wear flats or heels. Contemplating trying the Navy Tweed in a 2T to see what happens but thought I'd reach out here to see if anyone has an opinion or has tried it as well and liked the results. Thank you!
I actually have a pair of tall capris that I bought at the clearance center. You will definitely get more length (mine look like regular pants when I'm wearing flats), but there is extra room in the hip, thigh and butt area. They aren't as sleek in lines as your regular size might be. I tried to shrink mine in the wash and that helped a bit, but tailoring to take in the sides would make it look better.
DeleteI have not in the cafe capris, but I have in the Minnies. I didn't find any difference in fit up top. They were just a couple inches longer, which was perfect.
DeleteWHile I don't have cafe capris (even the tall is too short) I usually try on the regular sizes on pants in store and then order talls; the talls of any style have never had more room in the legs/butt/waist.
DeleteFactory is just blah. The B&M Factory store was cleaned out and they wouldn't honor the online Factory promo. The online Factory email promos keep rolling in but the site has the same old boring stuff as always, never seems to change.
ReplyDeleteOT--well, kind of OT. I saw this sweater over at net-a-porter, and LOL at the 80s vibe. I totally had this sweater when I was nine. Of course it wasn't cashmere, but it looked just like this one. I wasn't preppy at nine, I was definitely trying to emulate Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, so this fit right in with my leg warmers and big bows in my hair. (And fingerless gloves.)
ReplyDeleteI sort of love the sweater, but it probably is because I am looking at it sentimentally. I think if you are true hard-core preppy loving J. Crew fanatic, this sweater may just put you over the edge.
You have been warned. :)

Ughhh that sweater is SO 80s. Why, J.crew? WHY!? I definitely wore a sweater just like that when I was in preschool, with little toddler stonewashed jeans of course. But it was probably acrylic!
DeleteOy, I had that sweater in fifth grade with a matching knit skirt. It hurts!
DeleteWell it finally happened to me... EPIC wrong order. I was eagerly awaiting my stovepipe pants, and when I opened the box... FIVE raspberry taffeta crewcuts dresses! I assume they are for a wedding. I called CS who told me to send it back with the return label, but I said no way. I will not be party to screwing up someone's wedding plans! So I asked her to look up the items to see if they were still available for Amy in Massachusetts. Of course, 2 of the three styles were out of stock. So I said to the very nice CSR, I will be sending these dresses not to you, but to Amy in MA. She put me on hold for a while and then said, "Yes that's fine. Call us and let us know how much to credit you. " So, Amy in MA, when you receive my stovepipe trousers, fear not! Your flower girl dresses are on their way!
ReplyDeletekiwigem: That is so incredibly nice of you!!!! I hope Amy knows that you were looking out for her. Especially since some of the dresses were sold out. You saved her wedding! :)
Deletekiwigem: This has got to be one for the record books! How tragic this could have been for Amy, if it had not been for your thoughtfulness. I agree with Alexis...you saved her wedding! :)
DeleteAw, thanks, you both are sweet. Truth be told though, I think Alexis deserves some golf claps, too. Were it not for this website I wouldn't know how notoriously wonky JC's inventory is. I don't know if the pre-JCA me would have thought to have the CSR check stock. I may very well have sent the box back to J Crew assuming they already had replacements in the mail for the bride-to-be. The digital age certainly has its advantages. :-)
Deletekiwigem: I agree! Alexis always deserves many thanks for creating and maintaining the JCA blog...she's the best! I think we are all very grateful for the information that is shared here, as well as the community that has been created because of it. I know for sure that I am! :)
DeleteI don't know if this is old news, but Tory Burch has done the same scroll print in the past
ReplyDeleteSo, over a month ago, I purchased the Perfect Shirt in Ivory Tartan. I wore it once and washed it once. When it came out of the wash, one of the buttons had literally disintegrated. No extra buttons came with the shirt, so I contacted JC customer service. They responded by telling me that they were going to "look for" an extra button. I was furious and said this should be a no-brainer. Someone wrote me back and told me that there should be an extra button sewn into the interior front placket. My husband, who was home, looked and found it, took it to the tailor to have it sewn on and I had it back that night. This was early December or so. Tonight, I got an e-mail from "Amber" in Accessories who told me that she regretted to inform me that they are "unable to locate" an extra button for the shirt and that they are "sorry for any disappointment this may cause." I mean, are just kidding?? Tear one off of a shirt you have there and send it out. But the truly hilarious part of this whole thing is that she clearly had no communication with the person who had written me back last month. Are they this disorganized? Apparently so. If we had not gotten the extra button, I would have returned the shirt as damaged. Crappy quality and now, crappy customer service, too! Happy 2013 from JC!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry this happened to you. No way should a $150 lose a button. I returned both the Liberty shirts I bought. The cotton felt so cheap. I compared it to one I had from a long time ago. So soft and well made. I really don't have a clue why people like the fabric of these shirts and the inside sewing by each arm pit is very poor and crooked in both of the shirts I had.
ReplyDeleteHad a very unsuccessful FS attempt this morning. Was so excited to try Pamela Love for J Crew jeans, sold out as I was getting ready to order, along with the buffalo check shirt and sandwashed silk tee in champagne. All in a matter of minutes as I was checking out :( hate when that happens!
ReplyDeleteI am really tired of receiving items that have obviously been returned and are missing the extra thread and/or buttons!!! I received a cashmere sweater (collection, nonetheless!) with no extra thread. Today I received my pop back houndstooth blazer with NO extra buttons! Do people order, take the extras and return? Does no one at j.crew check these things? Missing thread I can deal with, but matching buttons are a pain to find and they usually don't match perfectly. And with j.crew's lack of quality lately I have no hope that these buttons will stay attached. I am sure if I called I would be in the same boat as The American Observer posted above.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of getting returned items. This tops the charts.
DeleteSince I live 2 hours from the nearest J.Crew store I am forced to order online or through the catalog. Right before Christmas I ordered two pairs of the Sperry for J.Crew Short Shearwater Boots in two different sizes hoping one would fit my wife for Christmas. (Keep in mind I ordered two different sizes). When I received them, BOTH pair had something that looked like cow manure on the soles and even a bit on the shearling! SO DISGUSTING!
Since the shoes were completely sold out in the sizes I wanted, I was forced with either sacrificing the perfect gift or cleaning the boots. Fortunately they came clean, one pair fit and my wife found it hilarious.
Really J.Crew? In your drive to make a quick buck you will ship someone soiled, returned shoes? You have definitely lost your respectability with me.
That's disgusting. I am also quite appalled by the person who returned soiled boots.
DeleteDid it also smell like cow manure...? (Just curious.)
Unfortunately yes. Fortunately my wife and I live on a beef farm so it wasn't completely unfamiliar, but very disgusting.
DeleteAbsolutely disgusting. Why are they selling dirty, worn clothing? I would have called CS and have them find me a clean, new pair. That is just beyond ridiculous.
DeleteI had my own dose of 'ewww' late last year. I ordered a cashmere short sleeve tee in November on the cheap and received a years old version with severe piling and a slight unidentifiable odor. I returned it promptly to the store. The SAs at my store were disgusted and shocked. I was disgusted but not entirely surprised. Sad. Wait until the warehouse receives the sale merchandise from the B&Ms. Then it'll get really bad.
Great thing about my store is they don't care if the item is Final Sale if it obviously damaged/worn.
That is sooooo gross!!! Do they just get returns and not even look at them?! I thought my cat/human hair covered schoolboy blazer from a few months ago was bad, but cow manure and smelly sweaters take the cake. J.crew needs to step up their game, big time. Maybe they should have a "take a gamble" section. Will your item be new and unworn or will you get a secret surprise!! Kleenex, cat hair, cow manure!!
