J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  5. has anyone tried on the rebeca raney x madewell cashmere sweater - the one with the llama? I'm just curious. Yes, of course I am. TIA!

    1. WHAT? LLAMA? I'll have to check it out. I am addicted to llamas...they are too cute. Thanks for bringing this up...I'll let you know. BTW, Anthro Llama socks are great and the Madewell Llama necklace in gold is great too :). I know, bordering on fetish.

  6. I got the Cambridge turtleneck $39 + discount and love it! I wear 0 in most JC tops but got a small. I could definitely size down to an xs, but love the looser fit for casual wear; it hits mid-to-low hip on me (I'm 5'4"). Looks so cute with skinny jeans. Plus, I've had Cambridge sweaters before and machine wash gentle and air dry them. Over time, the knit will tighten up slightly and I wanted the forgiveness of a bigger size. I've worn twice already and no pilling issues!
Also wanted to chime in with love for the merino knit turtleneck and cardigan! These are long-wearing staples for me.

  7. Insane love for the cashmere purl-stitch snood and the cashmere glittens! Will post pics hopefully later this morning. They are thick and super soft, not one little itch thus far.

    1. I have seen the gloves but never the snood (on-line) I assume this is where you got it (not the BM ) If so do you mind telling us how much the snood was ? was it also 40% off ? thanks

  8. I got the new tippi with the Peter Pan collar. I like the color - light peach with navy but the collar is kind of high and tight around the neck with just a little collar. It looks kind of silly on me, I think.
Some items from my spring preview preorder have already shipped - the new Liberty shirts (Lodden paisley and Tresco floral) and the cafe capris in gilded brocade!

    1. Debby do you have an item number for the Lodden paisley, I would like to look at it. Thanks, Sara

    2. The number for the Lodden Paisley is 40050 and the Tresco floral is 39988. They arrived today - the Lodden paisley is very pretty pale colors but also goes with the neon azalea sweaters to bring out the pink. The Tresco floral is bright and bold. They're very different from each other but really pretty.
The gilded brocade cafe capris 48762 are going back. They are shiny gold - much shiner than I expected!!

  9. I tried on the new tunic type dress that is the same material as the Maritime dresses and comes in a pretty royal blue and ivory color. It is really cute, but SHORT. Too short. Shorter than the Maritimes. It looks adorable as a tunic w/jeans or leggings, but as a stand-alone dress, forget it. At least for a woman in her 40's w/kids. If you're younger and have great legs, you could rock it alone w/flip flops or whatever. I would say it runs TTS, unlike the Maritime which I think ran a little bigger. Since I'm really needing spring and summer items, it's a pass for me. Too bad, b/c I think it's really flattering.

    1. I bought this prior to my vacation to P.R. with the sole intention of using it as a beach cover up and walking around the resort in flip flops. Loved it for that purpose, but would never ever just wear it out as a dress. Def too short for that.

      Delete
    2. I'm pretty sure this is meant to be a swimsuit cover-up! I agree it is really cute!

      Delete
    3. Interesting about it being a cover-up. It's great for that. Although in the dead of summer, you'd be broiling wearing that to the pool. The ladies at my b&m were trying to convince me I could go out in public on a regular day wearing it w/flip flops. Uh, no.

      Delete
    4. I'm 5'2" and I could tell that's a tunic, on me as well. Funny because my SA was telling me it's a dress. That's not anything I want to wear as a dress.

    5. Last year it was advertised as a cover-up, it was online only and in the cover-up section. This year they are trying to push it as a dress but it is exactly the same with the difference that now is in stores too.

  10. This is not so much a style question but a care one - I noticed that my twill Minnies are "dry clean only," has anyone had success with washing them? Also since they stretch out a bit during the day, what about a little time in the dryer? TIA

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Luxette, I machine wash and dry my minnies with the rest of my clothes; they come out fine. They need the drier to shrink back into shape!

      Delete
    2. I also wash and hang to dry my minnies. I don't put them in the dryer, but they seem to go back to the original shape/size after washing.

      Delete
    3. I turn mine inside out and wash on delicate. They could probably stand the regular wash, though. I don't put mine in the dryer — I lay it flat to dry.

I think if you wanted to stick them in the dryer, you could dry them until they're 75% dry, then lay flat afterward, if you're worried about them shrinking too much.

I like when my Minnies stretch out...I sized down, and they are a quite tight when I first put them on, haha.

      Delete
    4. I also wash and dry my minnies with the rest of my laundry with no problems.

      Delete
    5. Excellent! I thought this would be the case but it's so wonderful to have confirmation from everyone. I'll probably do 75% dry the first time and go from there. I took my regular size but probably could have sized down so I think some time in the dryer will be fine. Love this blog!!

    6. I JUST brought my navy pair to the dry cleaner! GRR! Well, that will be the last time.

      thanks for the great tips!

    7. i don't have the minnies, but i use DRYEL to clean my "dry clean only" stuff... works really well. once in a while i'll bring my coats to the dry cleaner for a real good cleaning, but for everyday stuff that doesn't really get dirty, DRYEL is awesome.

      Delete
    8. I know a lot of people swear by Dryel, but IME it's nothing more than a glorified dryer sheet. It may cover odors, but it doesn't clean.

      Delete
    9. I use dryel for all my sweaters and wool pants that don't have any heavy stains. I love it for that. Anything with heavy staining needs to go to the dry cleaner. Also results on silk fabrics somewhat mixed. But it saves me TONS of money on dry cleaning and tons of time on handwashing. Who has time to slave over the sink handwashing all their sweaters?

      Delete
    10. Luxette, I have washed them inside out on the wool cycle but they did shrink a tiny bit.

      Delete
    11. Thank you for asking this! I absolutely love the Minnies and was wondering the same thing. Love this blog and community - so helpful!

  12. Ignore the title of the blog post if you all don't care for Boden, but I did a very small and quick review of the Purl stitch snood in heather grey on Sunday for any of you interested. Like M said in her review, it is very long and large, much bigger than I expected it to be. But I love it and am so pleased I got it with the extra 30% off!

  13. This is not exactly a review, but Factory stores are getting new merchandise. Saw a navy sweater with a red lobster, the Paintbox jackie-style cardigan and a matching scarf (scarf colors are washed out), the chambray dot button down (sizing is S/M/L/XL so I'm not sure if that makes it a boy shirt or a perfect shirt, but I think it's perfect shirt), a tee with a large pink sequinned heart on the front, shorts, flip-flops, a jackie-style cardigan with the heart-throb print on it and a heart-throb print scarf (this is paler colors), what looked like school-boy blazers, I saw a very fun pink colored one.

    1. Sounds like the Factory is getting a lot of cute merchandise. I'll have to take a trip to the outlet mall soon. Received a Factory order yesterday and there was a coupon card for 20 percent off plus another card "for a friend". Yeah, I'll be using both myself!

  14. Just got the Felix boots in the mail yesterday. I've had the hardest time find a good, basic black riding boot without a bunch of bells and whistles. These definitely fit the bill! They were $160 after promo and I know I'll wear them for years and years.

    1. Emily, you are so lucky and thanks for the review. I have been stalking them for weeks and hoping they pop back in my size. I have lots of J Crew boots that I have had for years and they keep going. Enjoy!!

  15. In case the Collection Cashmere Colorblock Stripe Sweater pops back up, does anyone have a review of this? I saw it on one blog (can't remember which one) that the sweater is boxy, but I am wondering if it is so boxy I could size down from my usual XS to XXS? And if so, would the arms be tight? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

    1. It was reviewed by a bigger closet. I bought both colors in a S but could have probably used a XS. I find I am right on the size down edge in cashmere sweaters since they seem to run larger. For reference I am always a S in wool tippis, a 4 in Blythe blouse and a XS in linen sweaters. I never tried on the XS since my store doesn't carry cashmere but a bigger closet said it was a little shorter in length. I thought a S would allow for a little shrinkage if I hand washed. I did not find the arms tight at all compared to a tippi. Love both colors and they are a great deal HTH.

    2. Thank you! I hope it comes back in-stock--I dragged my heels on it and then when only XXS was left I was worried it would be too small.

  16. I tried the Madewell boyjean in cannonball wash. I have posted a photo if anyone is interested. Being a boyjean I expected slouchy but these were really slouchy. For reference I measured the waist on size 27 lying flat at 16.5 inches. I had high hopes for them but they will be returned and my quest for the perfect weekend pant will continue.

  17. Has anyone tried on the collection graphic tweed cafe capri in pink. I can't seem to find any record of a post on this and might bite if they seem worth the fs risk.

  19. I just got the pleated sweater skirt in the mail today. I have a thicker waist compared to my hips and it was not flattering. I'm taking it back to the store tomorrow. Too bad, at $55 I was hoping I got a fabulous deal. I got the sterling skirt in heather carbon in the same package and I like it. The #2 pencils are still my favorite, but this one is still cute and I'll wear it. (I'd trade it for a #2 if I could though...)

  20. Review of the cafe capris in tiny dots in this post.

  21. Looks like Factory online will have a version of the Terrazzo Tweed jacket, minus the chain and maybe a few other details. I returned the retail one I bought because the chain didn't feel like "me", so I'm very interested in the Factory version. I can't tell if the fabric is as nice as the retail version.

  22. Received the wool cafe pants and I sized up from the wool cafe capris based on the reviews and I am so glad I did. I am a 0P in the wool cafe capri and sized up to the 2P in the pants.
On the other hand, the xs cashmere tippi fits looser than the wool tippi. Did anyone have the same experience?

    1. yes, i wear xs in wool tippis and xs in cashmere was much looser compare to the wool version. I got xxs in the cashmere for the tighter fit.

  24. I picked up the Aggie boots in suede Nut color in store for $74.99 after 50% off discount. They fit true to size IMO, and I really love this color, very versatile. If anyone can snatch them up I highly recommend!

  25. Has anyone tried on the Factory Merino Long Cardigan? The description says it hits at the hip, as compared to the Classic (non-Factory) Merino Long Cardigan, which says it hits below the hip. How do they compare in size/fit?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The factory merino long cardigan fits like the Eden cardigan from last year. It is just a bit shorter than the retail long merino cardigan. The merino fabric feels the same as retail, IMO. I bought it in three colors to replace some other old, ratty cardigans and I am very pleased with them.

  26. Received my box from Monday's order today. A few of my loves.

The refined crystal-bow buckle belt is so much prettier in person. The pave crystals are nicely done, and yes, very refined looking.

The refined silk-cashmere wrap in fresh turquoise is a beautiful spring shade of teal. lol. The neon azalea is not as eye-searingly bright as it is on the Luxe silk crepe blouse. IMO it looks more Azalea than Neon azalea.

The cabochon and crystal bracelet is huuuge. The cabochons stand at least half an inch tall. Wow. It barely stays on my tiny wrists but I'm keeping it. Quite the statement piece.

The Perfect shirt in chambray polka dot is perfectly fitted, perfectly cut and was perfectly priced to boot. I was eying the circle dot version but think that I'll pass unless it goes on super sale. I already have 2 chambray shirts and my closet is coming apart at the seams.

The Diagonal long-sleeve sailor top was a surprise love for me. It was a ride-along but I will definitely keep it. It feels like a very sophisticated, grown-up sailor stripe top. Very French It-girl. Very Jackie O.

I ordered two messed-up mismatched photo/description items. In both instances, I received the item pictured not the item described. The item that I received also does not match the item description on the receipt but matches the item number. Go figure. HTH someone.

  27. Those of you who bought the cocoon coat, did you size down. I'm an xxs and usually a 00 but take a 0 in coats this year, but I read this coat runs big. And has anybody seen a 00 in the coral, gray or black in your travels. TIA!

    2. I bought a 2 but returned it for a 0. If they did not have a 0, I would have probably kept the 2 since I really like the coat. I am 5'3" so the big difference for me was that the sleeves were shorter and fit me better.
