J.Crew's Liberty Perfect Shirt in Glenjade {doppelganger spotted}

"Thanks!" to Sara & Fabulous Florida Mommy, who let us know about the following sighting: that the print on Old Navy's Lightweight Patterned Lawn Shirt in "White/Blue Floral" (385980; $24.94) looks strikingly similar to J.Crew's Liberty Perfect Shirt in Glenjade (item 25252; $150.00, now $115.00).

 *J.Crew

*Old Navy

When you put the images of the shirts side-by-side, the patterns look almost the same. (There is a slight variation when it comes to the flower's silhouette.) From the images, it is hard to tell which shirt comes from which store.

I have no doubt that the quality of the shirts are hugely different. (J.Crew's Perfect Shirts are tailored and extremely well-made.) Yet, the Old Navy version looks like a great, and much less expensive, alternative!

What are your thoughts on the pattern of the Old Navy versus J.Crew button-down? Do you own either version?

  4. I was at Old Navy this weekend and spotted the Margaret Annie pattern doppelganger. I only noticed how similar the patterns were because I had received mine in the mail a few days before. They also have blouses that look a lot like the Blythe polka dot in gray and one that reminded me of the Polly popover in engineer stripe!

  7. Sale section updated, too! I managed to snag a few popbacks (including the leopard necklace and perfect shirt in chambray polka dot) that, of course, didn't show up during GET40. Sigh...

  8. I really want to try the ON versions, especially since they come in tall, but I just have a bad feeling that after one wash they would be in bad shape. Has anyone actually tried them? Speaking of old navy, this photo popped up on my facebook news feed and I couldn't get over how J.Crew/Madewellish it looked!

  9. Thanks for the 'shout out', Alexis! :) Along with the look-a-like for the Liberty perfect shirt in floral, I also shared look-a-likes for the Perfect shirt in Medallion paisley/Queen Annie, Collection silk popover in photo floral, and Simone peacoat/Snow-leopard Harlow blouse, among others in this post last week.

  10. I bought four of the Old Navy knockoff ones, on Fabulous Florida Mommy's recommendation. The ones I ordered online are sitting at home all packaged up, but I tried them on in store. Observations:

    1. They run big. I'm 37-29-39 and fit into a small comfortably. If you're tiny, I'm not sure you'll be able to get these small enough to fit you.

    2. They are cut for pear shapes. This was a bonus for me, but I think they might be voluminous around the hem for a lot of people.

    3. All seams on the inside are serged to finish them, but the seams appeared reasonable sturdy.

    4. The fabric was fine. The J Crew versions seem a little softer, but the Old Navy ones were pretty nice and lightweight.

I wouldn't put them in the dryer, but I suspect they will last a few years.

I like the shirts and will keep at least some of what I ordered, but I'm at a loss as to how to style them. Help?

  11. I bought the Old Navy shirts. Washed one yesterday and it looks fine still. The JCrew ones are so overpriced and the quality of the Liberty fabric is just not what it used to be nor is the inside finishing of the JCrew ones. I looked at my older ones and wow, the difference is astonishing. Go ahead and pay $150 for the Liberty name. I will be happy with my 4 older JCrew ones. (I returned the ones from 2012 fall) and the Old Navy ones make me very happy for the price and so far the wear:)

  12. Great post. thanks for noticing these shirts JCAs. I like the Liberty prints but could never justify the price. Looks like I may be heading to ON soon to check these knockoffs out. If anyone has fitting room snaps please share!

  13. Based on FFM's post, I purchased one of the ON shirts - in Multi Ditsy and one of their chambray shirts. The order has shipped but still awaiting arrival. I also opted for ON emails and got 20% off the order. I will post a review under Weekly Share - Other JCrew Like Retailers once I get them. What I did like is that they offer these shirts in Petite and Tall. Thanks for the reviews Orginal Genny and ChocolateandWoolens. I agree I have purchased some of the J Crew Liberty shirts but only on steep discounts.

  14. I'm wearing the ON chambray dot shirt today after stalking and missing the JC chambray dot shirt in the sale section for weeks :)

It does run large - I wear an 8 in JC boy shirts and the small ON shirt fits me perfectly. I have it styled under a light grey Everlane cashmere crewneck with just the cuffs and collar peeking out and I think it works great - and for only$20!

I do think I'll air dry it but the materials and seams seem soft and sturdy.

    1. We sound like the same size--what size are you wearing in the Everlane sweater? I've been considering getting one.

    2. A medium. I love it so much. Great quality, perfect for layering. I could probably wear a small with just a thin tank underneath.

  15. So based on the above reviews (THANKS) and that ON is offering 15% off today with code wednesday. I reordered my shirts in XS Petite.

  16. These look like amazing copies, but I am always unhappy with anything I get from Old Navy. I am not sure why, exactly. I think it might be their fabrics, they don't feel good on.

  17. Nordstrom kids clothes is offering a toddler skirt in the liberty tresco floral print so u can match ur little ones. They are also using another liberty print for a toddler dress and diaper panty (Margaret Annie?). The prints caught my eye as they were laid out on the table as I passed the kids dept.

  18. Just stopped by old navy and tried on the shirts. I find the ON shirts to be too thin for my liking and the fit was little off for me. XS is the correct size but the the chest area felt tight and size SMALL was really big. The prints are nice though.

  19. I also stopped into Old Navy today to try on the "fiberty" (faux liberty) shirts. I am normally a 0 or 2 in j.crew boy and perfect shirts and I ended up getting the extra small. It is a bit big, especially around the hips, but I think a trip through the dryer will help. I agree with what Cate said above, I always end up unhappy with old navy items, so we will see. The shirts were $15 in store. I got the sea-blue floral and multi ditsy. I tried a small and it was huge! And as is typical of old navy, there were discrepancies in the sizing, one extra small is slightly smaller and one size small was probably more like a medium. I really want the white/blue floral (glenjade lookalike) but it was not available at my store. If ON runs a % off online again, and the shirts I got today wash well, I might get it.

  20. Just received my ON shirts, multi ditsy and chambray. LOVE them, I got the S petite and they fit like a dream, perfect length in body and sleeves. I am a 6 petite in J Crew shirts when available or a 4 or 6. For $17.94 with discount I think the material is pretty good, no not J Crew maybe but worth the price. I tried on most of the J Crew Chambray styles and nothing worked for me. I am going to order some more since ON is running a 20% off discount with code GAMEDAY online today. HTH
