"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Not technically a vent, I suppose...but some of those poses in the Dear Denim slideshow - more like Dear God, what is going on? I can't decide whether to be saddened that J.Crew is so far from the fresh, healthy looks they used to peddle, or thankful that they are providing me with laughs!

I mean, in one of those shots, the model is leaning over looking dazed while hiking up what appear to be boxers under her baggy-crotched jeans (in silver heels, natch). It's like she's saying, "C'mon, man, I'm tryna get dressed here! Give a girl a sec, yo!" Hahaha.

  2. The new arrivals are online. I can't wait to read the JCA comments.

  3. I think I can safely nominate the questionable item of the new arrivals with THIS.

    1. Tiffany Rose - Oh yeah, those are off-the-deep-end-never-coming-back crazy. I second that nomination as the worst of the bunch.

    2. Those and the green floral collection pants are like "J.Crew Meets Cast of Godspell." Turn back, oh man.

    3. I don't think those colorblocked capris would be half so bad if they were like 3" Chino shorts or something. But as capris, yeah, they're pretty fugly.

    4. 70's rock n roll is on trend for spring. Gah! These remind me of David Cassidy in the Partridge family. Love me some David, hate those pants.

    5. You all know that I love my fancy pants but these are too much for even me! I sure some blogger will rock them and style them so fab that we will all be clamoring for them. I can totally see these featured on Atlantic-Pacific.

  4. It's already on promo in the sale section. I thought my computer screen had a glitch. Jeez those are ugly.

  5. i agree! 2013 spring collection is, by most part, hideous. There's nothing new or exciting. Same old sweaters in different shades, shirts in different print, and some crazy wacked out prints and colors that a normal everyday person could not wear. what were they thinking?

  6. Those are one pair of ugly pants (colorblock capris)--

  7. I really wish J.Crew would offer different options for those of us who cannot/do not wear café capris and pencil skirts. Also, how about a different dress option for the prints other than the Jules silhouette?

    1. PLEASE. My hips can't take pencil skirts. A-lines, please. A LINES. Heck, even straight skirts work. And I need a dress that cinches at the waist. The Jules dress would make me look dumpy.

    2. I second that!!! I cannot wear capris, they just look like pants, I can't chase a toddler wearing a pencil skirt and the Jules looks downright hideous on me. Please j.crew you can keep all the old, but how about some new silhouettes?

  8. Can someone explain to me why JCrew sticks cheap white buttons on all Blyth blouses? Black one is a happy exception. I would purchase more of Blyth but white buttons just kill the deal. Club Monaco and Madewell sell silk blouses in the same price range and they match buttons to the shirt color. Will take my money there--

    1. I changed the buttons on my only Blythe blouse to cute pearl-like ones. I love the fact that the luxsilk crepe blouse has fabric covered buttons but simple pearl-like ones like those I picked up at a craft store on the cheap is not too much to ask for, is it?

  9. Ok, second vent-- JCrew, please lower the waist line on your dresses! I can't purchase any because the waist is practically under my bubs. I am 5.8 with normal torso length OR offer dresses in tall sizes.

    1. I second the request for tall dresses! (Didn't they have some, once upon a time?) As I am six feet tall, the Jules is pretty much a T-shirt on me.

    2. I third that! Yes, they used to do tall dresses more across the board; I think they stopped after 2006. They still do one or two suiting dresses in tall - but before, it was multiple special occasion and other dresses that you could count on coming in tall sizes. Those were the days!

    3. I fourth that, especially the part about where they place their waists. On jackets, coats, and trenches, the waist looks like an empire waist on me. I'm 5'8" and irritated that nothing hits my actual waist.

      Delete
    4. Fifth-ed. I'm also 5'8" and tired of all the high waistlines.

      Delete
    5. Same here, and I am only 5'6".

  10. Since I can't reply to any of the posts above:
    - Those pants are AWFUL. What the heck?!
    - I agree about the white buttons on the Blythe's. I have taken the two that I own to the tailor, and had the buttons changed out to a color matching the blouse. The white buttons make an otherwise nice blouse, look cheap.

  11. I'll make my first vent post: the matchstick jeans in "pitch black" wash faded immediately upon their first wash. Is it ridiculous to expect them to be somewhat colorfast? They were lighter coming out of the wash than other black pants in the same batch that had been through dozens of washes. Has anybody ever been refunded over such a problem?

  12. Reply not working for me-- About the tall dresses- There is one in the new release (special occasions) that is below the knee but, I bet you the waist line will be to high anyway, so they have to adjust the patterns/proportions, not just the length alone.

  13. D*ska - it does look like the colorblock capri is already in the sale section but I think it's a case of the wrong picture used there ... lol.

    1. I think that you are right tiffany but it won't be long before they are actually in the final sale section. Who in their right mind will wear this? Who thought that these were a good idea?

  14. Please j.crew do something to fix your colors so that they appear more true online!! I ordered the bright dahlia belt thinking it would be a bright pink with maybe some purple undertones. Ummmm, no!! It is almost neon orange! I thought I was sent the wrong belt! And, of course, now it is no longer on promo and sold out in my size. It is so hard to judge what color anything really is anymore.

  15. Okay, I am never buying tippis again, or any other J Crew sweater for that matter. I gently washed two of them and now they have this odd puckering at the bottom and cuffs. I used my pill comb on another and it went through the yarn! I was not attacking it with a fork or undue pressure.

My Brooks Brother sweaters that are 10+ years old are going strong and looking lovely. The colors are not quite as compelling but I don't care.

Very tempted to send the sweaters back to the company, but I don't think they would care.

    1. If you e-mail them, I bet they will give you a refund. I had pants split when I wore them and I was given a full refund.

  16. Just a quick question for you all,

I placed an order on Jan. 26. Received the "shipped" email on Jan. 28. But when I checked the tracking number, UPS says only the label has been created, item has not arrived at their facility. It has been 3 days!

    Anybody experiencing this?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Its because they ship the items in trucks to UPS distribution centers before the tracking numbers update. In my example, the tracking number only updates when it is about one state away. By the time the number works, the item is almost to me.

  17. J Crew cancelled my order for a neon azalea Tippi back in December (after I'd been waiting almost two months). Funny how the neon azalea Tippi is now available at FULL PRICE on the website. Very poor customer service and just wrong!

    1. If you still want it I would call jcrew and explain that they had cancelled the sweater on you (give them the original order number) and you still want it but want them to honor the price you originally "purchased" it for. I have had luck in the past with them honoring it.

    2. Thanks for the suggestion -- I will call and see if they'll honor the price.

  19. I agree J Crew has hit an all time low for me I have 0 desire to even make the long trek out to a store this spring I doubt I will be buying a single item from them online

  20. I recently ordered tweed-front tee from jcrew online store. I got the paypal confirmation email that the funds were processed but never got any e-mail from jcrew. so i decided to wait for a day and after still not receiving any info I contacted them. They said that they could not find any order with my name/e-mail address. Now I'm confused as to what to do since the payment went through my bank already (its posted under temporary transaction) but jcrew do not have any orders from me. The person who I contacted to was not helpful at all. He kept on asking me if I misspelled anything or if the payment went through, which I replied yes numerous times :'(

    1. Jess it sounds like you need to file a dispute thru Paypal. See this page. Good luck & I hope it's resolved quickly.

  21. @gigiofca I don't know why I can't reply to your comment.. Thanks for the advise, I'll probably do that. I e-mailed paypal JCrew (again) so if i don't hear anything from them I will file a dispute. I really wanted that cloth too, ooh well :(
